Hapori Tohu
Earlier this month Tru Kids Brands, the company that ended up owning the rights to the Toys "R" Us brand after the chain filed for bankruptcy and closed its locations in the US last year, has announced in a press release that it will be opening two TRU stores in time for the holiday season. The new Toys "R" Us stores will be located in The Galleria in Houston, Texas and in the Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus, New Jersey and will be run by b8ta, a company offering a Retail as a Service platform. The stores won't have the variety of old, and won't actually be selling toys - they will be essentially renting space to toy companies who will control the experiences for their brands and be selling directly to consumers. The goal is to open more stores in 2020, assuming these first two do well. It will be interesting to see Toys "R" Us coming back in a new way, hopefully one better designed to succeed in the current consumer environment.
