Six Kingdoms: Escapement - Gameplay

Unreliable Narrator

IC: Okuo - Ga-Metru

Okuo stroked his chin, silent for a good moment before he finally spoke up. "You know, that's actually not such a bad idea. But what about your mask? Someone might recognise you. Do you want me to get a new one for you?"

IC: Arkius - Po-Metru

"Alright, Stannis and... you?" Arkius pointed to Tallea. "Talia, was it? What do your senses or vision detect? I can feel an inverted pyramid resting upon fine grain sand down there."

IC: Oreius | Temple Assault

There—he spotted a Toa of Gravity at the edge of the battle. Jephro was focused on a massive being who seemed to be dealing with multiple opponents with ease. Oreius gripped his remaining sword as he watched the titan withstand damage that would incapacitate or kill any normal person. If he distracted Jephro, this colossus would wipe the ground with his allies. He needed to help them take it out.

The fire had abated a little: the League soldiers didn't want to shoot their champion. Oreius took advantage of this lull to duck out from the rubble and approach the battle proper. As he did, he activated his mask.

His Kanohi was always on at a low level, constantly feeding him information about his environment and the beings around him. It was his sacred duty to carry this mask: a lesser man might abuse its power for his own gain, or eventually be worn down by the incessant tide of mental noise. But the Toa of Fire served Mata Nui alone, and so he stood firm amidst the torrent of knowledge. Like a rock, he withstood the current and let it pass around him; he was in the river, but not of it.

As he walked forward, he filtered out the information he didn't need, focusing the brunt of his mask's power on the titanic being of unknown species. The mask would cause certain points to catch his eye, as though they were reflecting a light. Oreius noted a few weak points in the being's armour—places where a sharp knife could slip in with minimal effort. But even those weaknesses seemed muted, like his Kanohi was pointing them out halfheartedly. Like they would allow only false pain and temporary injury.

Oreius frowned, and continued to focus. His mask glowed as it probed his chosen opponent, searching for its true weakness.

IC: Nale Vella - Po-Metru

Deciding to follow the newcomers to the site, leaving Stannis and co. to discuss their own findings, Nale activated her Kakama and zipped over to the Taku, skidding to a stop (and kicking up a load of sand) just ahead of the transport and Vashni's hoverbike. She wiped her brow to be dramatic.

Tallea - Metru-Nui - Po-Metru

IC: "This whole thing is a pyramid without a tip. From what I can see...there's an entryway into the pyramid where that tip should be with a passageway leading to something that I can't see. Which is somewhat worrying. Likely going to be something nasty at the center of this place." She glanced over at Stannis. "Feel like digging?"

"I serve the weak. I serve the helpless. I am their sword and their shield. If you want to strike at them, you must go through me, and I am not so easily moved."

IC Kanohi - Po-Metru

As the Taku took off Kanohi had been hanging to it’s underside, mending the hull. As the airship took off he lurched from underneath it, but his grappling gun held. He clung to the Taku’s underside, not able to do much easy but hold on tight. There were no towers here to try to grapple to, just barren stone. He couldn’t get off if he wanted to, just hold on and hope the wind wasn’t too violent.

IC: Thom - Silver Sea Island (Facing Death)

The Skakdi was almost in shock, staring at the hole that was quickly healing in Kal's head, so Kal's grab made is mark, clutching him by the throat.

IC: Kovac Krossfari - Ga-Metru (Duel)

The Vo-Toa craned his neck, briefly watching the Matoran flee.

"No. Just me." He corrected, as the Shadow swung his sword in a calculated arc, aiming for the assassin's head.

IC: Leonn - Po-Metru (In Pursuit)

The spy grunted, turning on the throttle as the transport gave chase to the airship.

IC: Kal - Temple Assault

Before anything or anyone had a chance to intervene, Kal grasped Thom by the throat... or rather, by the thing around his throat. In one swift motion, Kal grabbed the collar, and with all of his might, ripped it apart and away from Thom. Kal had encountered these collars before. They were used to coerce prisoners into fighting for a cause they didn't believe in, monitoring their heartbeat to ensure they couldn't just be removed. But they didn't count on Kal's speed and strength. Before the collar could even detect the lack of heartbeat, the collar was already split in twain and thrust away from Thom. Not even a second later the two halves of the collar were flying in two separate directions, away from Thom and Kal. A resounding explosion burnt and battered Kal's back, but his giant body shielded Thom from harm.

"Now begone, craven. And when you're ready, find me on Zakaz." With that, Kal turned around and took out his sword again, grimacing and grunting as his gravity increased once again, his eyes spotting two toa charging directly at him. A flex of his bicep spurted out sickly blood and a couple of the thorns the plantlife toa had shot at him. In particular, Kal's eye was on the toa of plasma.

IC: Ardoku - Temple Assault

Ardoku paused for a moment as a resounding explosion went off in front of him, before the smoke cleared to reveal the skakdi unharmed, and the towering being turning to face him and his fellow toa. Ardoku grimaced, and resumed his charge, taking out his dagger. With a focused twitch of his eyes, Ardoku suddenly vanished into thin air...

Only for Kal to disappear at that same moment. As the two of them seemed to swap places, Ardoku gasped in shock and confusion, turning around to see Kal standing next to the other toa. It was in the moment following that in which he could feel his sword arm fall off, a clean cut through the bicep having completely severed the limb from his body, with a complete through cut a third into his chest. Ardoku spit up blood and collapsed to his knees, clutching the bleeding stub and his chest wound. He could feel his lung collapsing.

Meanwhile, Kal was now standing before Tekmo, a familiar scene playing out as he swung his sword down at the battered toa, smoke trailing off the titan's scorched back.

As Oreius followed the action, he could now see the Titan's front side, and there on his chest he could see a glowing mark. A singular true weakness. The titan's heart. Strange that he could not see it from the back...

OOC: @Harvali Kanohi should be able to enter the bridge by climbing to the hatch on the top

IC: Knichou, Po-Metru Great Disk Anomaly Site, Bridge of the Taku

Not being able to see much more than a large flat stone area down below, Knichou instead turned to his instruments to monitor teh ship's status. The Taku had a basic radar package for aiding in navigation, which was displayed on a panel to the side. It was especially useful for flying in dark conditions like today, and so Knichou was paying a bit more attention than usual so he didn't bump into any nearby statues.

On the panel was a rough topographical map of the area built out of miniature pillars like in the coliseum. Some pillars would light up to indicate anything unusual, like the many raised statues nearby. He saw a large blip of the vahki transport the other disk hunters had taken move up to the anomaly site, and fainter blips on pillars of those walking over. On the far edge of the map, suddenly there was suddenly a new object detected, about the size of the disk hunters' transport and moving quickly towards them.

With one hand, Knichou began to slowly rotate the airship around to face the direction of the newcomers so he could get a look out the bridge windows. With his other hand, Knichou flicked the radio to broadcast to Nale's frequency and grabbed the transmitter.

"Watch out, we've got a land vehicle approaching from the South, though it's too far away to see clearly right now, Over."

IC: Vyarik - Po-Metru

As the transport drew closer, Vyarik stood up and moved to the railing, trying to get a closer look at the scene they were approaching. Though it was difficult to discern amidst the darkness and dust, it certainly looked like their's wasn't the only transport inbound towards the airship's location.

"Let's not charge in guns blazing, at least until we know who else is out here," he suggested to his companions, "Remember, today we're lawful enforcers operating on the behalf of the Turaga. It's public knowledge, and we can turn that to our advantage."

IC: Skyra - Temple Assault -

What the actual ####!? Nothing was making sense anymore, first the sky went crazy, the flipping dead were rising up, and now this guy...was he even alive? Or was he some kind of unkillable monster that could shrug off fatal injuries like he had merely stubbed his toe?

"W-What the heck is this guy? Is he u-undead or something?" Skyra wasn't behaving like her usual self, she normally showed no fear, no hesitation, and she always had a quip or two ready to go. But instead of her usual, carefree self was someone who looked like she was on the verge of losing her nerve completely.

She didn't like the idea of the walking corpses, the dead should stay dead! She finally took aim at Kal and fired three blasts from her Midak Skyblaster, the orbs of light flying quickly at his chest.

IC: Rose - Temple Assault (Kal of Duty)

"Doesn't. Matter. Everything dies eventually--some things just need a little extra killing."

An equally unsettled Rose fired off a couple fireballs at the green entity, Kal's ability to survive seemingly fatal attacks reminding her of the zombies she'd encountered on the beach earlier.

@Snelly

IC: Idlyx Haeve - Ga-Metru (Vs. Kovac)

The Hunter lamented the fact his target had escaped, wondering if Okuo had been the reason the contract had been left unfinished last time. Pity...

A loud CLANG reverberated through the alleyway as Kovac's sword met Idlyx's bladed gauntlet, and electricity began coursing through his opponents weapon, bound to give the Toa a nasty jolt.

"Shocking, isn't it?"

The non-existent audience would've groaned.

@Dane

IC: Nale Vella - Po-Metru

The Fa-Toa audibly groaned into the radio, then turned to everyone present. "Knichou says we've got company. Stannis, you don't think it's that Hunter from before, do you? Maybe it's just some carvers passing through."

IC: Thom - Silver Sea Island (A Way Out?)

It had all happened so fast.

Thom was staring in the face of death, and yet death hadn't claimed him. In fact, death had set him free. Death had told him to fly, like an injured Kahu whose wings had been bandaged.

For once, the cowardly Skakdi wasn't sure what he should do. Whilst he had made allies on the battlefield, he was aware that, when the time came, he would likely be thrown away. A tamed criminal is no use when the war is over, after all. But running felt...wrong, somehow.

"Ah...ah mean...."

And then, as the coward watched his opponent charge off, dismembering one of his allies, his mind drifted to Nale. To his encounter that had put him in this position. To a purpose he needed to serve.

Things clicked together in his head.

And then, with a cheeky, grin accompanied salute to Rose (and another to Pardehi), the Skakdi began to run.

IC: Taja | Somewhere Above Onu-Metru

She burst from the side of the chute in a shower of silver droplets. The Kanoka glowed in her hands; for all it was concerned, the chute was one giant disk launcher. And it had just been launched.

The disk shot through the air, its Matoran rider hanging on, white-knuckled, for dear life. The wind whistled past her ears, but Taja didn't hear it. Her silencers were fully engaged, sealing her ears off from the sounds of the world. All she could hear was the thu-thump of her heartbeat as she half-fell, half-soared through the cold air, aiming for another chute that lay below and before her.

A lone Rorzakh watched her from a chute's scaffolding, then lazily turned and began to climb down. Chute surfing was technically illegal, but chasing down Matoran who indulged was more trouble that it was worth. Chute surfers were tolerated as long as they didn't interfere with the transportation of goods or other citizens. And if a surfer miscalculated and made a mess on the pavement? Well, that was one less surfer to worry about. A self-solving problem. Had the Rorzakh possessed a sense of humour, it might have chuckled. Instead, it merely whirred, discharged a puff of vapour, and continued its patrol.

She was rapidly approaching the next chute. The De-Matoran steered with her body, adjusting the disk's flight as well as she could. Her gentle glide quickly turned into a steep dive; she needed to maintain the speed and angle necessary to break through the chute's magnetic outer wall; too slow or too shallow, and she would just bounce off. The wind was icy as it passed through the vents in her mask, but she wasn't cold: adrenaline flowed hot through her veins.

Three.

Two.

One—

She hit the surface of the chute and broke through, quickly twisting to the right so as to catch the flow and not lose any speed. She tightened her grip on her disk as it accelerated, pulling her past canvas-wrapped blocks of supplies, shiny transportation pods, and the occasional startled Matoran. She weaved through these obstacles with the ease of long hours of practice, then moved close to the wall and looked out, the translucent barrier turning the outside world a dim green. Her sharp eyes scanned the city below.

ThereThe canal.

She exited the chute the same way she had the first: by throwing her body weight behind the disk and forcing it through the side of the chute. The air was warmer here, on the border of Onu-Metru and Ga-Metru, which was a welcome change. It would also be a more comfortable environment for her if she messed up this next transfer.

Pulling her knees up to her chest as she descended, Taja prepared to move from prone to a standing position. The protodermis canal gleamed beneath her, flowing silver in the strange light. Moving from chute to canal was the opposite of moving from chute to chute: she would have to hit the water at an extremely shallow angle, allowing her to skim along the surface. A steep angle would send her plunging into the water, or simply splatter her along its surface.

But until she made contact, she had to maintain her steep descend in order to conserve her speed. So she dove like a hawk, her experienced eyes measuring the rapidly shrinking distance and converting it to seconds in her head. Less than ten seconds. Less than five. The water rose up to meet her, wide and metallic and welcoming—

She pulled up with all her strength, fighting to adjust the disk's flight path. It grudgingly obeyed, and for a moment Taja was flying right above the water, watching her reflection pass by scarce inches from her nose. Then she pulled her legs up to stand on the disk, and bent her knees as it made contact with the water. Like a skipping rock, the disk skimmed across the water, maintaining its speed and allowing its rider to direct its course. She bent her knees with each skip, absorbing the impact, then leaned left to curve around a flatboat carrying a huge stone carving.

The water splashed beneath her, sending up a gentle spray with each impact. Looking up, Taja saw that the canal branched ahead. She leaned to the left again, directing her flight path down the branch that led, if she remembered right, toward the Great Temple.

Far above her, the stars twinkled in their new shapes, distant and cold.

IC: Amatarkonen - Barraki Fortress @Unreliable Narrator

"Yes, my lord! I shall leave at once." He stood up from his seat and turned towards the exit. He hated to humiliate himself like that, but it was necessary to maintain his position. Besides, he would now finally be free from the confines of this dingy fortress. He had been confident the Barraki army, under his command, could take Metru Nui unassisted. He did not know what Takadox's surprise was, but he was sure that it would all but ensure his victory. Once the city had fallen, the next step would be to consolidate his rule. If he played his cards right, he would have control over one of the most populous and strategically significant cities in the Universe. That thought pleased him to no end.

OOC: Amatartkonen is preparing to leave for Metru Nui.What must he do now?

IC: Pardehi - Temple Assault

Pardehi collapsed from exhaustion, his breathing ragged. He had used his chargers twice in a row today, and it had taken more out of him than he had realized. Worse, he did not seem to have impacted this strange titan at all. He pulled him self to his feet, breathing heavily. Black spots clouded his vision, and beads of sweat accumulated under his mask. He forced himself to remain conscious and upright. If anyone were injured, it would be his responsibility to treat them.

IC: Vhisola | Ga-Metru

"That's not a bad idea," Vhisola replied to Okuo's suggestion. "What do you think is the most cheeky, mahiki or huna?"

She laughed for the first time he'd met her, and she shook her head at her own joke. "Sorry, whatever you can find would be great. I'll go ahead to the temple and see what I can do about becoming one of the faithful. Be safe, okay?"

Vhisola strode off toward the Great Temple, Okuo watching her grow smaller under the glowing lightstone lanterns swaying from their poles on the bridge.

OOC: @Biological Chronicler, all Amartakonen has to do is wait until the crew of The Ripple arrive.

IC: Kovac Krossfari - Ga-Metru (Clash)

There was something of a smirk on the hero's face as the two weapons clashed. Electricity flowed into Kovac Krossfari's arm, but to him it was like the blood coursing through his veins. It melded with his own energy, unable to harm him.

The piercing white in his eyes widened as he growled, drawing back his blade and swinging yet again at the combatant's shoulder.

He would break him.

IC: Idlyx Haeve - Ga-Metru

This surprised the Hunter, who then moved to avoid Kovac's next move--his massive frame, however, made this difficult and the blade struck Idlyx's left shoulder. Although there was no cry of pain from the Kekamaire as a chunk of his armor came off, just a look of anguish and, perhaps, annoyance. It seemed getting hurt was something the Hunter was used to.

"Interesting...so your element must protect you from attacks such as that. Good!"

Idlyx then thrust forward with his right gauntlet out and swung at Kovac's stomach, intent on slashing the Vo-Toa open.

"Just means I can focus more on tearing you apart."

IC: Okuo - Ga-Metru

"You as well." He said in return, and as she made her way to the temple, Okuo sighed, hoping she'd be safe for this short moment he left her be. Returning to his state of air-like visibility, Okuo strode off into Ga-Metru, searching for the nearest Kanohi shop, which as luck would have it, he'd seen close to the Kanoka shop from earlier. Slipping in like a silent gust of wind, Okuo looked for a mask that wouldn't be noticed missing, grabbing one of the plethora of Hau in stock. What an oddly popular mask. This one was a light azure, a far cry from the dark blue Komau she normally wore. Hiding the Hau within his invisible form, Okuo then slunk out of the shop once more, with no one the wiser.

Quickly, Okuo made his way back to the temple, his eyes searching for Vhisola along the way. He hoped dearly that the fates hadn't decided to once more stack the cards against him. So far he'd just barely managed to keep Vhisola alive through grit and determination. He did not look forward to a time when even that wasn't enough.

IC: Kal - Temple Assault

With Kal's blade just barely missing Tekmo, the titan grunted as a ball of light hit him square in the chest, just barely deflecting the two subsequent projectiles with his sword before cleaving the fireballs apart with a mighty gust of wind from the sheer force of his sword being swung at them, the fiery tongues licking at his already singed form rather than impacting him and burning him further. His wounds were already quite severe, but he'd had worse. The only thing different now was his pain sense dialled up, but even then he'd suffered a far worse pain. His focus now shifted from Tekmo to the responsible for the ranged projectiles, his sword raised and his red glowing gaze falling upon them like headlights. Then, in an instant, Kal leapt forward, closing the distance in what seemed like no time at all and lashed at Skyra with his whip to restrain her, his sword following close behind in a vicious attack aimed for Rose.

IC: Ardoku - Temple Assault

Ardoku could feel the blood streaming out of his open arm wound like a faucet, and his chest wound really wasn't any better in that regard. His right lung had collapsed by now, and he could feel blood starting to collect in his other lung. Desperately, the toa tried and failed to sheathe his sword as a pained whimper of agony escaped his lips. After several meagre attempts, the sword finally slid into its sheath, and Ardoku was left to cradle his dismembered arm with his other arm. He was bleeding. His vision was starting to fog over. Weak, Ardoku fell over to his side, ash from the ground whirling up and and thinly covering his prone form. Ardoku coughed, first from the ash getting in his airway but then weakly from the blood filling his lung. There was blood everywhere now. He could feel his grasp slipping away.

The toa growled in agony from between grit teeth as he forced himself to roll over, his lopped off arm still cradled between his body and his elbow. He knew he had little time left. He had to get away. Grabbing for his dagger, Ardoku focused, one last time. He had to get away. Get out of the battle. Get to get help. He had to get away.

Ardoku's form at first trembled, then shifted, and finally, it was gone, a small trail of ashen smoke where he laid before. Meanwhile, back behind allied lines, Ardoku sat against a tree, his eyes looking around desperately for a medic. Once more his vision darkened, this time faster. He'd exerted himself in getting out, and now he could feel his consciousness slipping away like a shrivelled leaf upon a river. With a weak voice, he tried to call out. "H-help... help me... please..."

IC: Arkius - Po-Metru

The earthen toa looked up at the Odd Company, his inquisitive grimace hiding the worry deeply seated in his gut. "Any of you know someone headed out this way?"

IC: Skorm (Silver Sea, the Ripple)

Whatever had just happened, Skorm was exhausted. He couldn't tell if it was the five-minute shadow glide catching up to him, or the rest of the day piling up, but he was feeling more tired than when he had started. Hauling himself to his feet, he stumbled back into the ship, and collapsed into one of the seats and secured himself. By the time he was fully secured, the toa of twilight was already asleep.

The times, they are a-changing...

IC: Leonn - Po-Metru ("Arriving")

The ship loomed over the transport as Leonn slowed the vehicle down. They were here, essentially, though Leonn was beginning to wish he wasn't.

"Well, I don't know what your plan is Vyarik, but it is presumably very good to have brought us this far." The spy said, prepared to leave the two Hunters behind if things got particularly gruesome.

IC: Kovac Krossfari - Ga-Metru (Slice And Dice)

The lack of pain from the vigilant's blow surprised the Vo-Toa, and as he tried to sidestep the punch, he was a tad too slow.

The gauntlet struck true, stabbing into his armour but not worryingly deep. The Shadow had the reflexes to jolt back as he punched, minimizing the penetration of the blade.

A bit of blood seeped out from the wound, but Kovac Krossfari similarily held fast.

"You've already missed your mark, parasite. Give yourself up to me!" The vigilante yelled, before slamming his hand down onto Idlyx's outstretched joint.

IC: Skyra - Temple Assault -

Skyra leaped back as Kal swung his whip at her, narrowing avoiding the attack, if it wasn't for the fact that she wore a Calix, Skyra wasn't sure she'd been able to avoid it. Even as she bound backwards she fired a few more orbs of light with her weapon at him. She wasn't sure how effective her weapon was, but the fact that he was retaliating made her think it was doing something.

"C-Come on then! I'm not scared of you!"

IC Stannis | Po

Tallea glanced over at Stannis. "Feel like digging?"

Stannis shook his head in response. He was in his haven Metru, but despite being surrounded by aspects of stone he had no control over the sands, and digging was a domain much better suited for his friend Arkius, who's abilities were ideal compared to his own. He had, briefly, considered merely lifting the odd structure from the ground, a feat he could easily have accomplished with a mental little effort, but by his elemental scan of the inverted pyramid and the others' examinations it would be a bad idea, and so he discarded the plan without mentioning it. The ciphered message would speak truth, it seemed—digging and brute force would be required, but only take them so far towards their ultimate goal.

And what of these newcomers, he wondered? Almost all were refugees he had helped at some point before, some were people he'd saved and others even past allies, but times change people. He knew these matoran were good, but what of their intentions? He would have to do a scan of them sometime later, he resolved, to better ascertain what their individual goals and ambitions were. A faithful man, Stannis was well-deserved of his "prophet" moniker, being a nearly saintly figure among the pious followers of the Great Spirit, and he feared the Virtues not being adhered to. These matoran, he understood, shared a set of commonalities, but they also came from radically different paths, and those paths surely gave each one very unique ambitions. Should any one of them choose that their possible apotheosis to toa-hood was more important than any other's, that would surely ruffle feathers and drive even the most passionate supporters of Unity apart. And in the face of possible annihilation at the hands of the Barraki, the Virtues needed to be adhered to, or else all was lost.

His focus, however, was turned a different direction when he could hear the telltale rattle of another vahki transport.

On 2/27/2020 at 11:17 PM, Tarn said:

The Fa-Toa audibly groaned into the radio, then turned to everyone present. "Knichou says we've got company. Stannis, you don't think it's that Hunter from before, do you? Maybe it's just some carvers passing through."

The old toa looked out across the dimly illuminated and nightmarish landscape and knotted his brows with concern, seemingly feeling the transport more than truly seeing. "It shouldn't be the Hunter... but I sense this one means us harm," Stannis said back. His voice did not betray his frustration, but it was there. Ironically, for a famed warrior who's legend was as much about his far-flung travels as his martial exploits, Stannis did not enjoy fighting—yet he was destined to find it everywhere he walked, it seemed. Mata Nui worked in mysterious ways, truly.

Grasping his spear more tightly, Stannis turned his focus singularly on the oncoming vehicle. "Nale, stay with the Taku. If needs be, use your gun from there and use height and range to your advantage. Arkius, do what you will, but see how you can hasten the digging efforts first. We will see if I need help soon enough, but if the matoran fail it will be because we did not do enough to help them.

Then, in a tone as chilling as the twilight atmosphere: "As for me, if this is truly the Dark Hunter he will soon learn what folly it is to challenge a Po-Toa in fields of stone.

IC: Vyarik - Po-Metru

"Looks like he's waiting for us. That makes this easier." Vyarik moved to stand at the front of the transport as it drew to a halt before the group.

Vyarik's body buzzed with a kind of eager, anticipatory glee he hadn't felt in a very long time. For so much of his service with the Dark Hunters, his tasks had - by necessity - involved subterfuge and assassination. He had excelled at that work, but is was a far cry from his old life, in the arenas of Stelt. There, he had not only been fighting for his life, but entertaining others at the same time, turning slaughter into a spectacle.

Now, for the first time in decades, he had the chance to put on a real show again.

"Toa Stannis!" He bellowed, raising his voice to be heard by all those present. "By order of Turaga Dume, you are hereby placed under arrest for conspiracy against Metru Nui, assisting a wanted felon, destruction of public property, and the termination of numerous Vahki law enforcement officers. Your companions are also wanted on similar charges."

IC: Nale Vella - Po-Metru

Nale nodded to Stannis. "Hopefully I won't have to fire a shot."

Before the Hunters arrived she headed to the Taku and radioed Knichou to move the airship in closer for her own convenience, before climbing back aboard with some help from her element. Meanwhile, the Matoran tilted the airship upwards slightly to give her better cover. Taking position in the cargo bay, rifle drawn, she crouched down and watched for what would happen next.

IC: Vashni - Po-Metru -

Oh great... Vashni visibly sighed as she scrutinized the Dark Hunter who was attempting to arrest Stannis in the name of Turaga Dume and Metru Nui. Which sounded completely absurd no matter how you looked at it. Vashni attempted to get a quick feel for Vyarik's mind, and without actually reading his thoughts she got a very strong sense of pride, arrogance, and just a general aura of malcontent. So all in all your average Dark Hunter from the feel of things.

"Just who exactly are you putting on a show for? Cause no one's buying it!" Vashni shouted across the sands to the Dark Hunter. .:Seriously who is this guy?:. Vashni mentally asked to all allies and party members, while she was at it she used her powers to allow everyone to communicate with each other through the mental plane, it was only a minor strain on her to maintain it and she could basically do it without thinking. .:I will let us all communicate like this to make things easier:.

For now Vashni would use her powers in a supportive role and stay close to the Matoran, above all she would keep them safe, that was her duty as a Toa after all.

IC: Rose - Temple Assault

Meanwhile, Rose moved to avoid Kal's attack towards her, his blade narrowly missing anything important but managing to snag part of her mechsuit, and tumbled into the charred foliage. She grunted as she got up, quickly surveying the damage: a good chunk of her suit, from her right shoulder to part of her upper arm, had been shaved off. Any closer and she would've been down a limb.

Her fireballs had done little, and Rose began to question whether winning against this entity was even possible. She didn't even know where he'd come from--if he was some kind of secret weapon the League had been holding onto until this moment, he was doing a ##### fine job at it, taking up the attention of most of the Metru Nui fighters.

She remembered something, then: a brief moment ago, the Skakdi prisoner she'd been fighting alongside (The ##### coward, she thought) had...saluted her? Unable to react at the time since she was under a bit of pressure, the Ta-Toa wondered what that was all about. She spit in Thom's direction, although by now he was already gone, before adjusting something on her flamethrower and letting out a full-force stream of fire on Kal. It would, hopefully at least, overwhelm him and give an opening for someone else to attack and maybe, just maybe, successfully harm the entity.

IC: Idlyx Haeve - Ga-Metru (I'm thinking...Dorsia)

The Kekamaire winced as Kovac's hand struck his arm, but immediately retaliated while still at close range by bringing around his left gauntlet and thrusting it towards Kovac's head to skewer the Vo-Toa. The fight had taken up far more of Idlyx's time than he expected, and he was fully intent on ending it quick to track down the Ga-Matoran again.

He wondered where he should make his next dinner reservation.

IC: Jutori - Po-Metru

The Ba-Matoran looked around in confusion, before backing away from the group slightly. Fighting Dark Hunters was far from what he'd signed up for.

IC: Tekmo (Silver Sea, Temple Assault)

Tekmo rushed over to Ardoku and - oh dear, that was quite a lot of blood. "Stay with me now," he said as he tried to carry his comrade to the friendly side of the battlefield. "HELLO?! MEDIC? ANYONE!?"

IC: Waveahk (Po-Metru, Sculpture Fields, Vahki Transport)

Well, of course they weren't 'buying it'. That would require basic cognitive functions. Blind loyalty to anyone, or anything was hardly an effective survival strategy.

Waveahk glanced at Leonn and gave him an 'I told you so' look.

With is intense focus, Jephro noticed how Kal firercly defended his chest. He must have a week spot there, Jephro thought, I should let them know, but if I yell he'll know... Tallea - Metru-Nui - Po-Metru

IC: Stannis had an arrest warrant out on him?

She hadn't been following the news feeds too closely since their hunt had started. Sure there had been the ride over here but she'd been engrossed in her studies of the disk. She brought up a popular news sight with a mental command, surely if a Toa of Stannis' stature had a warrant out on him it would be all over th-

Apparently the world has decided become Karzhanni all at once. Wait, did that Ce-Toa say she was connecting everyone's minds?

Tallea didn't know how much of her inner monologue had passed over the link, but the interruption served to refocus her on the situation at hand. Specifically focusing her thoughts on the bond she sent out.

Non-combatants converge on the block. I'll cover them.

IC Stannis | Po

In the twilight setting that felt eerily like the atmosphere was missing, Stannis the Wanderer stood on the edges of the light from his tiny sun's glow. His grey cloak was dull and dark in the murky illumination, and his tall frame drew a long shadow across the Po-Metru desert, still as the stone itself. From Vyarik's standpoint, the noble toa looked like a pillar in greyscale, dull and  featureless against the horizon save for his twin silver eyes that drank in everything before them, ghostly and all-knowing. If the crepuscular cold somehow didn't chill the Hunters, Stannis did.

"Toa Stannis!" Vyarik bellowed, raising his voice to be heard by all those present. "By order of Turaga Dume, you are hereby placed under arrest for conspiracy against Metru Nui, assisting a wanted felon, destruction of public property, and the termination of numerous Vahki law enforcement officers. Your companions are also wanted on similar charges."

"Are you threatening me at last, Dark Hunter?" Stannis said.

IC: Vyarik - Po-Metru

3 hours ago, Snelly said:

IC: Vashni - Po-Metru -

"Just who exactly are you putting on a show for? Cause no one's buying it!"

"Have you not seen Turaga Dume's announcements these past days? We Dark Hunters are allies of Metru Nui, contracted to help Turaga Dume protect this city from threats his Vahki are unable to contain... such as these rogue Toa." He looked more closely at the Toa who had spoken, recognising the gold highlights that indicated the blue-armoured being may be a Ce-elemental.

"I won't pretend we're doing this for noble or altruistic reasons, but an entire universe under League control isn't exactly beneficial for our business. If you can see into my mind, Toa, then you will see I speak true."

Were Vashni to attempt to see into Vyarik's mind in that moment, she would find its forefront filled with memories of Vyarik's pursuit of Stannis and Knichou - of streets strewn with obliterated Vahki, of an airship platform laid to waste, of the Dark Hunter 'Victim' being ground into paste by the very airship now hovering overhead.

It would undoubtedly be clear he was holding something back, something shrouded in a deep-seated disdain for self-proclaimed heroes who only cared about Matoran, and did nothing to stop the injustices suffered by the other innumerable species of the world... but that hatred was dampened by his duty and determination to complete the task he had come so close to accomplishing already.

"Are you threatening me at last, Dark Hunter?" Stannis said.

"No, Toa, I'm being forthright, and doing my job. Which is more than can be said for you," he folded his arms, making no effort to reach for his weapons or make any other act of imminent hostility.

"Do these other beings even know of your true intentions? Have you told them why you're on the run from the Vahki, why you've wrought so much destruction and chaos to aid the man who robbed Nuparu mere moments after his murder?"

IC Stannis | Po

Stannis's responded quickly and decisively, not even bothering with a wit or sass. "You speak of my blind faith to ideals, Hunter, but do you not see your own ignorant belief that Turaga Dume will honor your 'loyalty'? If you believe you are somehow any better because your leader and the turaga shook pinkies in a corner and pledged not to cut each other's backs in public, you are blind, and in no position to lecture on what is unlawful.

"Admit it, Hunter. You chase me, pursue me, dog at my coattails because you are desperate for a single iota of relevance in this grim world. And you hate me because I do not care about your plight, because your quest is vainglorious and senseless. Walk away, Hunter, and do better. I have never had quarrel with you, but if you choose to fight I will deny you even a single kill in Metru Nui."

IC: Arkius - Po-Metru

Arkius frowned, grit his teeth, and growled internally upon seeing Vyarik pop his head up once again. This guy just wouldn't give up, would he? This wasn't going to end until he or Stannis were out of the picture. Arkius knew which of these prospects he preferred, but for now, he decided to play it cool, and try playing things the Dark Hunter's way. One thing the guy said was right, he still wasn't quite sure why Stannis had gotten on the Vahki's bad side, but after all this time, he felt he could rely on his knowledge of the toa's character to dissuade any suspicions of his intent. If Toa Stannis was in trouble with the Vahki, there had to be a good reason, and no doubt laying those reasons out would rob the Dark Hunter of any more fuel for his attempts at breaking their Unity.

"Hold on, Stannis. As much as I hate to say it, the Dark Hunter makes one good point. Perhaps we should lay all the cards on the table. Clear this matter up. I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for all of this trouble we've found ourselves in the middle of. And while the Vahki are meant to protect the city and its inhabitants, they can at times be overzealous, so drawing their ire isn't immediate evidence of ill conduct." Arkius walked up next to Stannis and stood there with his arms crossed and resting on his axe with the other end of its handle resting on the ground. His eyes looked at Vyarik with a mixture of disdain and unease, before he moved them to rest squarely on Stannis, an inquisitive yet trusting look to his features.

IC: Nale Vella and Jutori - Po-Metru

Nale sat in the cargo bay with her rifle by her side, but made no move to aim it at any of the Hunters. She knew if Vyarik spotted her, especially with a weapon trained on any of them, he'd use it against Stannis and company. So instead, she just listened and continued to wait for things to go sideways, and rolled her eyes at the "rogue Toa" comment. The size-changer was back to raving against them.

.:Seriously who is this guy?:.

She made an "eep!" noise and jumped at hearing a voice in her head, but settled when she remembered Vashni was a Toa of Psionics.

A pain in the rear, Nale replied.

Jutori, meanwhile, wasn't sure how he felt about the whole speak-in-eachother's-minds thing. He'd have to be selective with his thoughts now. Considering his lack of any tools or weapons, he surmised this counted him as a "non-combatant" and followed Atamai's command. If things got bloody...he wanted to be a Toa, but he certainly wasn't one. Before now the closest he'd gotten to combat was hiding from a shape-shifting monster in the Archives. He hunkered down and said a small prayer.

IC: Oreius | Temple Assault

The titanic being's strength and size belied the grace of his movements. Were he not an enemy, Oreius might have been impressed by the way Kal moved. Each strike was calculated and confident; each step was bold and sure. He fought as though he had nothing to lose; he fought like nothing his opponents could do would hurt him.

And that seemed true. Until now.

His focus was rewarded: Oreius's mask highlighted at last the weakness he sought. A plate of chest armour seemed to catch the light of the sun that was no longer there, flashing in his vision like a signal from the great Spirit himself. Intuitively, the Toa of Fire understood that this winged soldier could not be killed unless struck at this point, through the heart. A blow from the back or the side would do nothing—they could crop off his limbs and wings one by one, and the being would still live.

The mask further highlighted the way that Kal fought: Oreius noticed that, as he danced through blows that seemed to slide off his skin like water, the titan always moved to instinctively protect this one weak spot. He made no attempt to dodge bullets or fire or ice unless those attacks were launched at his chest: this weakness undermined even his confidence.

The Toa of Fire smiled grimly. He raised his remaining sword and allowed a current of blue flame to lick along the blade. "Strike at his chest," he shouted to his allies. "He won't die until we pierce his heart."

IC: Knichou, Po-Metru, Bridge of the Taku

Knichou was surprised at the mind-linking, and quite honestly the thought of someone who could read his thoughts was worrying. As long as I don't think about I-know-what, this should be fine, this is fine. Although... a psionics Toa will come in handy for the memory crystal... I (We?) will have to discuss this later.

At Nale's request, Knichou had tilted the Taku upwards roughly 30 degrees. Nale had a clean shot at the dark hunters from the gaping rectangular maw of the cargo bay at the bottom of the ship, and this tilt allowed her to lay prone on the floor and rest her rifle on the edge of the cargo bay opening, using the hull as cover for the majority of her body. Knichou was going to use the pocket radio to communicate with her, but the psionic chatting methods, while unusual, were much more efficient.

Not just any pain in the rear, this guy's been following us ever since Nuparu's murder - he even boarded the Taku and was a stowaway, Knichou added to the mental conversation. Nale, let me know if you need any more maneuvers, it's hard for me to see or hear what's going on down there. That was true - the downside of being titled upwards was that Knichou, being on the bridge, couldn't directly see what was going on below. He could only roughly make out the beings below from the docking camera pointing directly below the ship's anchor housing.

Locking the airship into position, Knichou took a moment to double check that his lightstone rifle was fully charged and loaded. Knichou also took the precaution of locking down all doors and hatches connected to the bridge. This dark hunter was pulling quite the stunt, and Knichou didn't like how confident and bold this move was - something had to be wrong and Knichou wasn't sure what card was up this dark hunter's sleeve.

IC: Kal - Temple Assault

Affixed to the ground by his feet, Kal swiftly moved his blade to block the light projectiles from Skyra, a slight twirl to his blade as he did so before he turned it into a full on spin, spinning his blade fluently and swiftly to grab and disperse the intense gout of fire which Rose blasted his way. The blade began glowing red hot, and as Rose's fire ceased, Kal's gaze remained not on her or Skyra, but rather moved about the battlefield, scanning for- There. A toa of gravity. With another exertion of his power, Kal appeared closer to him, ready to fling forth his whip at the toa before he heard called out over the battlefield.

1 hour ago, Eyru said:

"Strike at his chest, he won't die until we pierce his heart!"

Kal's gaze immediately fixated on the toa of fire, the three circular eyes narrowing their glow into blinding headlight beams on the toa and his mask. "LONG HAS THAT MASK DRAWN MY IRE. YOU WILL REGRET WEARING IT TODAY, TOA." He exclaimed, his deep rumbling voice booming across the battlefield without exertion. Then, without a second's hesitation, Kal cut through the base of a large tree with his red hot sword, grabbed the whole enormous thing and flung it at incredible speed toward Oreius, this action immediately followed by his whip being lashed directly at Jephro to wrap him up tight.

IC: Oreius | Temple Assault

Oreius was getting tired of using this technique—he'd already accumulated a decent set of bruises today—but why fix what wasn't broken? Throwing out his hand, the Toa of Fire emitted a pulse of flames and heat from his palm, blasting himself to the side. Learning from his earlier uses, he jumped to the left as he did so, allowing the pulse to carry him through the air instead of blasting him off his feet. When he touched earth again, he turned his momentum into a roll, then sprang up lightly to his feet.

The tree sailed harmlessly through the air where he had stood before crashing to the ground behind him in a shower of broken twigs and leaves.

Kal was lashing his whip at Jephro. Calling upon his powers again, Oreius hurled a spear of fire at his opponent's torso, hoping to catch him off guard and give the Toa of Gravity time to make his escape.
