IC: Thom - Onu-Metru (Archives)

He shrugged, the skinny Ko-Skakdi's ever-present grin still holding on Thom's face.

"Was 'ere to settle a score." Thom nodded to Nale. "She knows. But seems like ya in a spot of trouble. Only right ah should help ya, you know."

He twirled his revolver in his hand, but another weapon was sitting in the opposite holster, perhaps leading to the Toa wonder what was in there.

"Anyway, ya pushin' yaself. Can hear ya raggerty breathin' from across tha archives!" Thom insisted.

IC: Iradra - Coliseum

"Stannis is right. You can't change the wrongs of yesteryear." Iradra chimed in. "What's done is done. People die, cities are razed, and civilisations are destroyed. Clinging to what's gone isn't going to fix anything. We need to preserve what's still left. Now, I'm not going to stand around and listen to any more of this time travel nonsense. Metru-Nui is under attack right now, and I can make a difference." With that, Iradra strode out of the office, walking past Toa Stannis and Toa Jutori on her way.

@EmperorWhenua @Tarn

OOC: For future notice, I've changed Aradra's name to Iradra.

IC: Matrak - Ko-Metru

Matrak sighed and tried to keep it together. People were being murdered all around him and he couldn't save all of them. There was only one way to stop this. Pridak, whoever the vicious warlord was or made himself out to be, had to go down. Hard.

He'd faced worse odds.

A step forward through the void and Matrak was right next to Pridak, taking a swing at a gap or vulnerable mechanism in the warlord's leg armour.

IC [Zataka, Coliseum - Dume’s Office]:

So this is what it’s all been about...heh.

Zataka wasn’t all that surprised to hear that manipulating time was a possibility. That in and of itself was not what was at the forefront of her mind though: The realization of what Dume was asking of his newly made Toa sunk in and immediately, the  possibilities began forming in the warlord’s mind: They could go back, take the Barraki by surprise and end their reign before it ever began. She could already picture the looks on their faces when their barely nascent aspirations of lordship were cut short in an instant. Glorious!

But they had to go way back to do it - a daring proposition. Centuries of history rewritten to prevent the current war, without any way to know what would happen in that time. If they sent one of the Toa back and they succeeded in the way Dume had outlined...it would not only destroy the league, but most likely the majority of the order of Mata Nui as well. She could only imagine the massive power vacuum that would leave, one that would inevitably be filled. Perhaps by the Dark Hunters, or the Visorak, or…

...me.

She couldn’t help the sinister smile that played across her lips. You listed yourself after the spider horde, really? The opportunity was tempting. All the power in the universe had suddenly become a lot more attainable, at least seemingly. Zataka’s hand tightened around the handle of her sword. An injured Dume, a Nynrah ghost who knew how to fix the machine to make it happen. Now if she somehow could ensure her past self knew of what was coming...and that’s what it came down to, wasn’t it? For the plan to succeed, the time to set up the attack, there would be little to no time for anything else. No way to ensure a bright future for anyone - Matoran, Barraki, Hunters or otherwise. If she was going to pull this off, she’d need some sort of assurance. And there was none to be had. Unless she went back herself. Which then would mean outrunning a nova blast, tracking down her past self and convincing her of the plan as well. Knowing herself, how she used to be...that part alone would be hard enough. She might well create a time paradox if she and her younger self couldn’t get along and tried to kill each other. It was a million to one shot to gain all the power she could ever want, but in turn it risked everything she had already built.

Wait...

It was desperate. Too desperate in fact. The Barraki and others (herself included) had led bloody campaigns across the silver sea for ages. Invasions happened all the time - just not to Metru-Nui. The shining beacon of all Matoran civilization had been spared the horror thus far, thanks to her Toa protectors and clever politics. But it had known war as well - civil war. They were in dire straits, the league might well win today - but did it justify Dume’s methods? How many had died in this war so far? And now, just because the bloodshed had found its way here, the Turaga broke out the history eraser button. Not when the Mangai had fallen apart or the Dark Hunters began operating unchecked. Why now? To stop the Barraki, sure. But if he knew of the exact time of their defection, why not go back himself? But no, instead Dume had chosen this course of action. Even his worry about a mask of time did not make sense. Any weapon was dangerous in the wrong hands, but an existential threat? The Kanohi Garai existed, yet it did not destroy the fundamental force it held sway over when broken - she knew that for a fact from the last time she had done it, just before breaking the wearer as well.

Zataka stood up, glancing down at the dark hunter again. :Stay put: she ordered her, before moving around the desk, slowly, deliberately. Her shadow fell over Dume as she came to a stop beside him.

“You also have my thanks. I can see clearer now.” she said, looking out towards the smoke rising from this city stretching out beyond the window. There was absolutely no gratitude behind her words. “Tell me something: With this device you could go back to an even earlier time and warn the Order and bring them proof of the Barraki’s impending betrayal. I know Brutaka and his allies do not take kindly to traitors. Or you could go back to yesterday and warn all of us of the invasion, cut off their advance before it begins.”

Dume could see how tense the warlord was. He noticed the subtle shaking of the armored hand clenching the hilt of her blade.

“You could have done any number of things. Maybe you failed to consider alternatives - but that's not you. You think things through. No, this was your plan all along. Even though your own friends betrayed you and each other - just to keep the disks out of your hands. And then you had these unwitting Matoran bring them to you. A clever move: Find the disks and people devoted enough to do whatever you ask. And when that was done all you had to do was turn them into Toa so you could find one among their number willing enough to kill themselves based on nothing more than your word. Very clever, but also desperate. And too drastic. Even under these circumstances, it’s disproportionate. We haven’t even tried all conventional methods; my blade has yet to taste Barraki blood.”

Her eyes were locked onto Dume now.

“Unless this is about more than stopping the Barraki. How does your plan account for the other things at work here: The creature in the coliseum basement, the crimson in the sky, the rising dead...what do you know of them?”

IC: Oryn - Ta-Metru (Fighting Ghosts)

The creature blinked.

The Swordsman had gotten up. And after his opponent had gotten up, he'd disappeared into the grey entirely, with words that didn't fully register to the broken Kekamaire.

His cognitive abilities were not excellent, not anymore, but his murky and shattered mind could just about make out that The Swordsman had done something. The slow cervid-beast wheeled around...

To unknowingly meet the Toa's slowly rusting obsidian blade crashing towards him. Hissing, acidic blood splattered as the blade sunk deep into Oryn's collarbone. Pain seemed to register for once in his four eyes, perhaps momentarily snapping him out of his shattered state. Oryn was lucky, then, that his sturdy frame managed to keep the large blade from cleaving him in twain.

The beast, however, was losing life quite rapidly. He didn't have long left.

But, as the corrosive blood spat out toward his assailant, a horrible, unnatural cackle came from the monster's mouth.

"You will go with me."

Tallea - Metru Nui - Dume's Office

IC: Tallea grabbed a stone and moved closer to Dume, although she kept her distance from the obviously irate titan currently berating him.

"I serve the weak. I serve the helpless. I am their sword and their shield. If you want to strike at them, you must go through me, and I am not so easily moved."

IC: Dume | Coliseum, Office
"You are a fool," Dume whispered to himself before Zataka approached. If he spoke of himself or Stannis none could determine. As the elderly toa stepped aside in disgust, realizing Dume befouled his dogma, the Turaga gave a brave, thin lipped smile at Knichou, Atamai, and Tallea. They each held a stone, respectively: muaka's eye orange, quartz blue, and a shoreside ocean teal. He reached his hand forward, beckoning Tallea and Atami and Knichou close to him, and they held out their hands with the stones in them.
"You are brave. Braver than all of us. And more willing to discover the truths of this world. I leave you in the company of new sisters and brothers. May you find more wisdom in your unity than an old fool like myself alone in his tower."
Dume grunted, coughed, and then let out a slow and solemn rumbling cry from deep in his soul. The three matoran pressed near him felt a creeping in their skin as the reverberation of his powers passed from one ancient and fallen warrior to three new heroes. Cocoons of golden light tinged by the colors of the stones covered the matoran, spinning like silk threads as they grew inside. The energies disappeared, flowing into the heartlights of three new toa who reeled back in the shock of their change. Having seen matoran become toa several times before their eyes opened their mind to what would happen, but experiencing the alterations could never be expected.
Zataka approached Dume and began to chide him, to prod him for questions, to demand answers. Then she realized it was in vain.
His spark was gone.
The leader of the matoran people had given his broken heart to the desperate plan of changing everything before it began.

IC: Jabali & Zecrillia - Dume's Office

TOO MUCH TOO MUCH TOO MUCH.

She should have left with Turaga Sans. Jabali could tell now that the aged jokester had had the right idea; even if she could probably not do much more than bash a couple of the invaders around the head with her staff before being smeared on the ground herself, it would be better than having to know all of this. Time powers, Toa killing other Toa, Dume getting thoroughly told off by Toa Stannis and the titan whose name Jabali wasn't sure she knew. It was all so, so, so...

She didn't even know. Aside from it all seeming futile - didn't time travel always lead, at least according to rumour, to only causing the very thing you set out to prevent? Not that she was going to stick her neck out by asserting as much in the middle of the already high-running tempers in the room - it was as if the world was going crazy; and in fact, with the Barraki marching on Metru Nui, that might well have been the case.

But she certainly didn't want to be in the middle of it all. So, when Stannis made to leave, Jabali quickly decided that was her cue, too. Giving a nod of respect in Dume's direction - one that she wasn't sure anyone noticed, but certainly wasn't going to do anything that would draw more attention to her - she made her hasty escape.

"Toa- Toa Stannis?"

She quietly hastened to catch up with the legendary hero.

"I want to come with you, too. I know I'm just a Matoran, but... that's all way too much for me. I want to help protect my home. That's all."

What, was she expecting him to actually say yes?

Zecrillia, meanwhile, shrugged with a feigned negligence. While she, too, was somewhat discomforted by the idea of changing the past - would that render all her work, her weapons designs, her quest for the Great Disk, moot in the end? She wasn't sure she much liked the idea of that - it would be a fitting punishment for the Barraki, to wipe out the empires they were so proud of before they could form. And if it meant they would be stamped out before they could murder her brother, who had only wanted to join their army and had apparently paid the price for it...

15 hours ago, Unreliable Narrator said:

“I believe we’ve met before… Zecrillia was it? [...] For now, maybe you can place your skills under the employ of our refugee from Artakha here in finishing work on the machine.”

"As long as you keep paying, I'll keep working; you can count on that."

IC: Varxii - Ko-Metru

Well.

The stranger certainly knew what he was doing; two of Pridak's soldiers were out like lights in moments and Varxii, a fighter by nature herself, couldn't help but be impressed. There were definitely worse things she could do than team up with him... he had power, and so did she. If they found a good choke point to ambush Pridak's forces, the arrogant Barraki lord would never know what hit him. She took a step forward, meaning to make her presence known to him--

Saw him step through a void and disappear from her sight.

So much for that idea.

Being too far around the nearest corner for to see Pridak - all the better to not be seen by him either - Varxii was unable to see the stranger rematerialise right beside the Barraki. As far as she knew, he was now away who-knew-where... so it was up to her, alone again, to find out a way to thwart Pridak's army.

If she'd looked up and away into the distance, she might have seen, of all unexpected things, an approaching airship bearing reinforcements in the form of three newbie Toa and one unexpectedly bold Turaga. As it was, Varxii's attention was far too fixed upon the situation at her point on the ground to pay the skies any thought. Still, if any of those approaching were on the lookout for potential allies, it was safe to say that they'd find one in her.

If she was anything more than a tiny dark-blue speck from their perspective, that was.

IC: Carapar | Po-Metru
"You know, when I say it in matoran I see what you mean," Carapar said to Skyra and Rose's laughter. "I'll have to work on finding a better word. What about Tuba? Is Tuba a good word?"
He jumped forward and to the side of Rose's attack, swinging his war horn parallel to the ground with the hopes of crashing into her shield arm. He wanted to test it.
"Well, try and put your boot where you may, but I'll make your corpse into an instrument of victory!"

IC Stannis | Office

"You may come as well," Stannis said to his fellow kind, then clarified, "All are welcome to defend their homes." He meant that for the others, the still present and the just-leaving. Whether he died that day or lived to see tomorrow, he would mount a defense.

He looked over at the holoscreen of Metru Nui for intelligence of where to go. It flickered slightly, likely damaged from the scuffle around it earlier, but still projected the status of the city. Most of the districts had protectors, whether vahki or matoran or more powerful heroes, as told by the ripples in formation of the Barraki armies as they encountered resistance here and there. Po- and Onu- had strong defenses going, but

"Save your breath, Zataka, the turaga is meeting with his fate. I will find mine in Le-Metru."

IC Kanohi - the Coliseum Grounds

As he grappled around Kanohi spotted a De-Matoran huddling behind some debris, their hands clutching at their sensors as the city crumbled. Their hands quaked, any disk launcher they once had long abandoned. The roar of the city was just too much, the bellowing of war pulverizing them with overstimulation. It was … almost funny. Not the pain they felt, but the overwhelmed senses …  it was familiar was all.

He tumbled to a halt besides them, and they flinched with each jingle of his armor. The vigilante slowly stood up, and looked around. there, drifting in the sky was a banner from Kalmah’s forces. He hooked it and brought it down, before slowly tying it around the Matoran’s eyes mask and sensors, cut down on the stimuli.

The De-Matoran’s breath began to calm, and Kanohi offered the other Matoran his hand. The civilian clutched at his hand, squeezing tight. Then Kanohi leaned towards the De-Matoran’s muffled head and whispered, “I am going to take you to some Vahki. We will move in a sudden burst of speed, try to brace yourself. If you need me to stop, squeeze my shoulder twice. Is that okay?”

Okay. Thank you, mister…?” The De-Matoran was quiet, barely a noise at all.

Oh um, I am Kanohi.” Kanohi slid the De-Matoran onto his back, and the gray passenger clenched on tight. And then with a burst from his wrist the vigilante caught a building with a ball of gravity. The two of them lurched into the air, and Kanohi hooked another building, and another, hurling through the crimson skies of Metru-Nui.

Finally they latched to the street, falling down besides group of Matoran escorted by a Keerahk. The De-Matoran stumbled off Kanohi’s back, before feeling his way over to the group. “Thank you, Kanohi—” the Matoran of Sonics whispered, but the vigilante was already gone, hearing a scream in the distance.

IC Ka - Onu-Metru, the Archives

Ka continued to March into the underground, acid drooling from her pincers as she clutched at her head. It was a Matoran instinct, did little good in her current state, but she just … just had to endure. As she wandered to each sleeping Bohrok she hesitated, she … if more Bohrok awoke the sound would only get louder. But the Lehvak just proceeded without her, freeing the others and increasing her torment…

IC: Vashni - Coliseum -

That was it then, Turaga Dume, the leader of Metru Nui, was dead. Dume had used his last breath to turn three more Matoran into Toa. With this Vashni's task of leading the Matoran in her charge to Toa-hood was complete.

But her duty was far from over. This city was in chaos. As Stannis began to leave and Dume drew his last breath, she realized that she no longer was useful just standing in this office. She knew nothing about time travel or machines that used it. She was feeling that she agreed with Stannis however, that destiny should not be messed with.

"I'm going to help Stannis defend the city." She stated, to anyone who cared to listen. "I pray that whatever you do with the great disks, it's the right choice." With that she turned and left the office.

She went over to Stannis and Jutori moments later, they hadn't left just yet. "I'm coming too, can't let the newbie die on his first day as a Toa right?" She gave Jutori a wink.

@EmperorWhenua@Tarn

IC: Skyra Daring - Po-Metru -

"Yeah, Carapar the Tuba Lord. Has a nice ring to it." Skyra did her best not to laugh. "I'll be sure to put it on your tombstone!" Skyra switched to her Midak Skyblaster and began to fire orbs of light at the warlord, she wouldn't use her Cordak Blaster with Rose so close to Carapar.

IC: Jutori - Dume's Office

Dume was gone, having used his last moments to create three more Toa. Jutori was somewhat stoic--as a Toa should be, he thought--but knew that despite the Turaga's questionable plan, his loss would be a tragedy for Metru Nui.

"Y-yeah," he replied to Vashni. It was weird being eye-to-eye with her now. Another one of the new Toa stormed past him, and Jutori tried to raise a hand to stop her. "Wait, I didn't catch your name! You shouldn't go out there alone, why not come with us?"

@Snelly@EmperorWhenua@Onaku

IC: Rose - Po-Metru

Rose raised her shield to meet the warlord's horn. It held strong, and with her other hand she brought her flamethrower close to Carapar and let out another stream of fire.

"I'm gonna make sure all of you burn."

@Unreliable Narrator@Snelly

IC: Nale Vella - Archives

She whipped around towards the source of the voice, reflexively aiming her rifle. Before them stood a skinny Ko-Skakdi with an eyepatch, who was most certainly who Nale thought he was.

"You."

She looked to Arkius, realizing eventually she'd have to explain this whole thing to him, but only said, "It's a long story," for now. Nale looked back to Thom.

"I don't know why you're helping me, but..." Oh god, is he obsessed with me? "...I think we have a common enemy in the League. If you want to settle a score with me later that's fine, sure. Just don't die down here first, Patchy."

"Maybe a good start would be telling me your real name."

IC: Sans, Airship

Sans took his time getting back to his team.  Was it an official Toa team? Could it even be one if a Turaga was part of it?  No, this seemed more of a convenient team-up, and though Sans was doing his best to keep such thoughts at the back of his mind, there was an all-too-real possibility that all of them wouldn't even be making it back from this mission.  When he did get back to the others, though, he was pleased to see them getting acquainted.  "I'm sure you three are nervous.  My first assignment as a Toa was unclogging a dam in a creek so that this village on the Southern Continent could have their homes' water pressure go back up, huhuhuhuhu.  If it helps, we have a minute before we arrive at the battle."  Sans pointed to some of the miscellaneous crates in this back area of the ship.  "I want each of you to practice using your element.  You'll find it easier to make large blasts, which is fine when we're surrounded by Pridak's forces, but control must be maintained all the same.  Each of you, pick a crate, and try your best to blast it with a controlled force.  Please don't blow through the hull; while crashing this airship into a knowledge tower would certainly work wonders for stalling Pridak's advance, the clean-up afterwords- and since we will be winning this fight, there will be a clean-up- would be super tedious, and I enjoy making messes more than cleaning them, huhuhuhu.  So each of you, focus, take a moment to feel the well of elemental energy building inside you, extend your arms, imagine how it feels to extend your essence towards the target, and unleash a small, controlled blast at the crate of your choosing.  Any practice is good practice, huhuhuhu."  Sans was confident his companions could pull this off, yet he stepped aside all the same.

IC: Leonn - Po-Metru (Boss Fight)

He squinted at the two engaging with the boisterous warlord. A dark, innate and vindictive hope began to fester in his mind. He could wait.

In fact, I should waitI should allow the Toa wear themselves out fighting or be pulverized by Carapar and his moronic warhorn. They deserve it, for what they did...

Yet, Carapar's form irritated him more. The buffoon bantering on about whatever tale he'd make up about the battle he was fighting. An absolute waste of effort on Leonn's part, but one that had seemingly cost him something he was only recently beginning to realize how much he valued. Not to mention the dwindling dregs of dignity that were being scooped up by being kept as a prisoner.

All that sacrificed, just to silence such a dribbling cretin.

No, I should be the one to gut the crab myself. It'd be cathartic. For what trouble he's caused me.

Coming from behind Carapar, Leonn drew his stun-knife, boiling irritation and frustration ready to come to the surface.

IC: Thom - Onu-Metru (Reunion)

"Eya sweetheart!" He shot a thumbs up at Nale as she realized who he was.

"Ah prefer Patchy, if ya please. Nought wrong with Patchy." He scratched the eye beneath his eyepatch. "Got a right journey to tell ya of, once ya not cuttin' up Mantax's goons."

He looked exceedingly happy to be there, like everything had come together.

"So, who are you lot then?" He glanced to Arkius and the droid he'd named 'Boltsy'.

IC: Sidra - Coliseum (Dume's Office)

For karz's sake... with Vashni gone, the telekinetic force pinning Sidra to the floor gradually abated, and she slowly sat up, though for now she made no effort to flee or attack. She holstered her launcher and remained behind the desk. Every time. Every karzing time...

She'd failed, again. Sure, Dume was dead, but she could barely take credit for it.

First Othorak, now Dume. She'd confronted her targets, wounded them, only for them to die by other means, and still accomplish their goals in doing so. She hadn't stopped Othorak from crashing the airship into Ta-Metru, and now she hadn't stopped Dume from creating more Toa to pursue his insane quest to tear time apart. She tried to be clever, tried to be careful, and every time she was too slow.

She sighed, and sat down behind the desk, struggling to get comfortable in the too-small chair as she typed a quick message into her iStone, addressed to the rest of the Dark Hunter network: Dume is dead.

IC: Iradra - Coliseum

The toa of light stopped in her tracks, turning to face the toa of gravity. "My name... is Iradra." She sighed and turned away again. "I'm not going to Le-Metru with you. Ta-Metru already suffered tragedy, even before this whole invasion started. They'll need all the help they can get. If anyone asks, tell them that's where I'm going."

IC: Arkius - Archives

"Arkius. And we can stand on ceremony later. Right now we have a warlord to kill." With that, Arkius turned back around and continued his descent into the depths of the earth.

IC: Okuo - Coliseum

Okuo watched as the Turaga's heartllight flickered, teetered out, and then finally faded out for good. "He's gone..." He said in an almost heartbroken tone. With grief lingering in his eyes, Okuo tried to steel himself, turning to look at the others present.

"What do we do now?"

IC, Atamai: Coliseum

Atamai was not prepared for the transformation that happened to him.

He felt a strange energy flowing through him. He could feel his body changing, expanding. He couldn't see anything due to the blinding light, but he knew that Tallea and Knichou were also experiencing those same feelings.

When the light dissipated, he saw the world in a whole new way. Literally. He was much taller than he had been previously. He was now eye level with Vashni, Stannis, and the other Toa. He felt his mask. The shape was different than it had been before. Seems like it's shaped like a normal Haonga now... well, except for my eyepiece, he thought to himself. He would find out later that his eyes had changed color to be as blue as the Toa Stone he had grabbed from the pile.

Looking down, he saw two weapons on the ground in front of him: a metal baton, and a small war axe with a hammer tip on one side of the axe head. He picked them up.

As he did this, the titan Zataka was speaking to Dume, but Dume didn't respond. Atamai looked and saw that the Turaga's heartlight was dim. He was dead.

Atamai sighed sadly and said nothing. The others in the room began filing out. Stannis was going to leave with Vashni, Jutori, and Jabali. Atamai turned. "Wait, Stannis," he said. The old Toa turned and looked at him. Atamai walked up to him. "Stannis... thank you... for everything you've done," he said quietly. "I'd go with you but... I'm not totally convinced that Dume's plan will work. I think there's another way we can use his machine without sending someone back in time... So I'm going to stay and try to convince Knichou to try my idea. If I can't... well, I don't know what'll happen." He stood up a little straighter. "Good luck, Stannis."

IC: Carapar | Po-Metru

Carapar’s armor seemed well adapted to take a roasting. The flames licked his chestplate and shoulder pads, leaving a smoking mark along the edges of their path. He laughed as his warhorn club connected with Rose’s’ riot shield. He could feel the impact running up his arm into his shoulder. He knew she felt it too.

“This connection, this power!” He shouted. “You are a noble foe. Have you thought about joining us? Renounce your faith, toa. Become a part of the great Kingdoms of the League and live free from religious tyranny. Why serve a master who’s dead? Your Great Spirit is nothing but a decayed myth. I have many toa in my army: you could join them.”

Leonn’s knife cut Carapar’s laughter short as, distracted by Rose, the warlord didn’t notice Leonn’s approach from behind. The skakdi had all the time in the world to find the gap in the armor. Blood leaked from the wound.

“You!” Carapar roared as his head swiveled further back around than Leonn imagined possible. “You spy! I know you! I will crush you into powder and then do the same for your traitorous lord. No more fruity drinks and summer holidays for you!"

Then Skyra's blaster shots hit their target, bursting through the Carapar and wracking him with heat and pain. His armor began to whistle like a tea kettle as the radiation from the midak round seared through him. Rose and Leonn, in the blast radius, would feel the same immeasurable pain unless they jumped away at the last moment.

OOC: I promise, Pridak soon. Been v busy!

IC: Leonn/Rose - Po-Metru (Vendetta Job)

A bright flash of light shooting up Leonn's adrenaline, he yelped in surprise as he let go of the knife stuck in Carapar's flesh and jumped backwards, landing in an almost-perfect breakfall which was only ruined by the blinding light caused by the Midak projectiles.

"DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF THE TERM COLLATERAL DAMAGE, YOU PSYCHOPATH?!" Leonn screamed back at Skyra, eyes burning.

However, perhaps inspired by the wrathful light blasts, he looked back to Carapar as a red light began to illuminate his amber eyeballs.

"I would say that Takadox sends his regards, but I'm sure you already figured that one out." He managed a smirk, before two burning hot beams blasted from his eyes again, headed straight for Carapar's head.

Rose had the smarts to do much the same as her Skakdi "ally", launching herself backwards with her riot shield in front to protect from any collateral.

She hit the ground rough, but managed to avoid any of the radiation from the blast.

IC: Skyra - Po-Metru -

Nice, Leonn came through afterall. Skyra was glad she'd convinced Rose to spare him, this was working out pretty well. Nevermind that he was apparently really close to another warlord, that was a detail they'd deal with later.

Skyra was content to just keep shooting. "Roast crab sounds pretty nice actually."

IC [Zataka, Coliseum - Dume’s Office]:

"Save your breath, Zataka, the turaga is meeting with his fate. I will find mine in Le-Metru."

The titan stood silently, looking down at the lifeless Dume with a mix of resignation and disgust and...pity?

Then, she lifted a hand, palm crackling with energy. The body had to be disposed of before whatever secret he had taken with him reanimated the corpse. She took one last look at the Turaga...and hesitated. Dume’s Robe had slipped during the fall and subsequent struggle on the floor. ‘Destined for the stars’ was clearly legible across his chest and more black ink was just visible running up his traps towards the base of his neck. She had paid it no mind before. What did she care for a former Toa’s vanity? But maybe...

She knelt down besides the body and turned Dume’s head. Then, she unclasped the necklace with blue stone, putting it in one of several pockets of her techwear pants. Lastly, she pulled the Turaga’s arms out of his ceremonial robes and turned the body over. More tattoos became visible. At first glance they seemed purely decorative, but then...there were patterns there.

“Stannis, wait.” she called out to the Toa about to leave. “Take a look at this, tell me what you make of it. You too, Nynrah.” she said to the Wanderer and freshly transformed former ghost, indicating the other tattoos.

“And make it quick, before he reanimates.”

IC: Pridak | Ko-Metru

He rose elegant and powerful in his large warsuit. Extra armored plating wrapped around him, soft cushioning protecting him from bruising on the battlefield. Several armaments were attached at the shoulders, as well as on the wrists. The legs were recurve, and added plenty of height to his already tall form. A red tabard rested over the front of the warsuit, the rest white with gold trim befitting a king. On his face he wore the mask taken from an old man. Pridak would start a new creation, one unbridled by the fear of revealing the truths of life adrift.

Matrak burst from the razer-thin line of the void between worlds near Pridak’s legs, sweeping outward with his attack towards the back of the armored leg. He looked for a weak point, finding a joint on the right leg as his target. His weapon crushed against it, leaving a thin silver scratch against the surface of the piston.

“Really,” Pridak said, his laughing tone shifting to one of fierce and calculated rage beneath the polite surface of his composed features. “And here I thought you were all bark and no bite. You’re not going to damage my best suit with a strike like that. This is protosteel. Do you not have such metal in your country?”

The way he said your country made it very clear what Pridak thought of the dimensional traveler and herald of the void eakai. He considered him trash. With a burst of power the barraki raised his white and gold warsuit’s leg and went to fiercely knee Matrak in the face.

IC: Carapar | Po-Metru

The Lord of The Horn, The Tuba Lord, call him what you will, made an unearthly sound as he wailed with the pain of the midak blaster rounds crashing into his body. He’d been expecting the Cordak, he knew its power. He’d been expecting the flames from Rose’s flamethrower: it literally had a warning sign on it. The traitorous knife to the back distracted Carapar, so he was unprepared for… well… Basically he was unprepared for Skya. The whole kit and package that she was deeply unsettled Carapar. She came with a lot of baggage, which Rose would have to learn to live with, but spunky le-toa also came with more dakka than he’d seen in a long time. Not since Zakaz.

And now, Carapar didn’t have to worry about seeing Zakaz again, because he was going to die. Screaming and pushing through the pain, armor melting off his skin from the radiation poisoning of the Midak, Carapar made a desperate rush at Rose. He knew if he closed in he had one last trick up his armored sleeve… All he had to do was grab her...

IC: Reliable Narrator | Coliseum Office

Those looking closely at the dead turaga’s body saw dark black ink across his back, arms, and chest. On his chest were the words “Destined For The Stars,” as some already saw, but on the back were more symbols. Strange hieroglyphs only the disk hunters saw before covered his back, along with numbers: coordinates for locations, secrets, unknown mysteries. These coordinates and hieroglyphs were hidden among larger panels of Dume’s history as a toa: the refusal of the call, the rush of heroism onset by a sudden transformation, the saving of his people from a giant rahi, the building of a great monument, the horror of a dark shadow from the cave within, and near the base of the neck and the shoulders a single sun, with lunar cycles along his occipitals from new moon to full moon. Stars marked a border parallel to the lunar pattern. Inspecting his arms showed further constellations, strange constellations even the resident astronomer Taja would have never seen. It reminded her of how the skies changed, and how new destinies seemed to be written in the heavens.

hose looking were engrossed by the detail of the designs, the tribalism of their aesthetic. These were not simple shows of personal artistic pleasure. These were marks of leadership, of prophecy, of honor, and of sacrifice.

A hand grasped Zataka’s wrist, Dume’s hand. It jerked forward suddenly without warning. A hollow gasp of air filled the undead’s lungs, and the sockets of Dume’s eyes burned with a devilish flame...

IC [Zataka - Coliseum, Dume's Office]:

"Indeed. But do you see anything that might be of use in the here and now?"

Suddenly, she felt something around her wrist. With a startled noise, almost a snarl, Zataka pulled back against the grasp of the undead Turaga. But he wouldn't let go. She changed tack then, instead seizing him by the throat and pushing down hard to keep him in place, in case there was anything more to be learned from the markings.

IC: Okuo - Coliseum

The newly minted toa was engrossed in looking at the markings, so when the turaga's still body jerked back to unlife, it sent him reeling back a step, gasping. Sure, he'd read about Ta-Metru and seen the pictures, but being there in person was completely different. But slowly, as he looked upon the undead Turaga, the fear in his eyes gave way for sadness and outrage.

"None of this is right."

IC: The Swordsman - Ta-Metru

"Always trying...to get the last word..."

My mask's power deactivated, revealing my damaged form. A splash of acid blood hit my armor. I pulled my sword away (with some difficulty) and clawed at it in a panic, ripping off the affected area before it could eat through. My injuries, the pain, and the shock of it all took its toll and I fell to the ground incapacitated, a broken man. Pieces of dark red metal littered the ground around me, my obsidian sword had left my clutches and now lay inches from my fingers, and nearby my tattered cloak was blown away in the wind.

If I had won this duel, it did not feel like it.

I closed my eyes and dreamed.

Oryn could just hear something thumping in his body as The Swordsman hit the floor.

His dull vision gradually became even more dull. Everything felt fuzzy.

Flashes of the past came back to him.

And then the rest.

Oryn, like a collapsing building, slowly toppled over onto his back, vision darkening.

Datrox had freed him.

IC [Zataka, Coliseum - Dume’s Office]:

“Had to be sure.” Zataka said. She stood up, still holding the undead, struggling Turaga by his neck. She lifted him up and turned until his back was towards the blown out window. Then, energy began to glow between her fingers. The effect grew rapidly, obscuring the Turaga more and more from view until he was barely a silhouette amidst a blinding light that suddenly discharged, shooting out the window, disintegrating the being that had once been Dume and leaving nothing but particulate and the smell of ozone in the air.

Zataka sighed. For as flawed as he had been, this was a sad end for a ruler like Dume. There was a moment of silence as those present in the office bore witness to the end of an era.
Then the titan turned and looked at Stannis and the other Toa: “Go. Do what you do best. I will do the same from here. I have something in mind that should give the league pause.”

She stepped up to the desk with the distorted holographic interface Stannis had pulled up still visible. The dark hunter they'd immobilized had gone and sat down in the chair. Zataka stepped up next to her and reached past her towards the interface. "Excuse me." It was complex in functions, but easy enough to navigate. The warlord pulled up the public address system. She took a moment to familiarize herself with the controls, then hit the ‘broadcast’ control. She wasn’t entirely sure how the system recorded her, but she could see her mirror image on the display in front of her and a status light indicating she was live.

Across the city, screens and holograms flickered to life. Some were broken and distorted, but even so it was clear the face being broadcast right now was not the Turaga the Matoran were used to seeing this way. The cold, hard eyes of the dark titan in his place gazed down on the war-torn streets.

“Citizens of Metru-Nui.” she began. Her voice echoed through the chasms between knowledge towers and skyscrapers, carried across the sculpture fields and refineries, rang out in the depths of the archives and great temple:

“This is Zataka. Turaga Dume’s rule is at an end. I have taken control of the city’s defenses."

"Somewhere in each Metru is a Barraki. I want them dealt with. Until I get what I want the city is on lock-down. Martial law is hereby in effect."

"All dark hunters operating in the city: There will be a reward for proof of every league soldier you bring down. All league soldiers: Reconsider your loyalties. All non-combatants: Stay out of the way and take shelter until the fighting is over.”

“As for the Barraki: You can surrender. You can run. It makes no difference. You are mine now.”

IC: Knichou, Dume's office

Knichou closed his eyes as he was immersed in bright light, his senses overloading as he fell backwards.

WARNING: POWER MOVEMENT SYSTEM OVERLOAD

Eyes closed, Knichou could only feel the changes, and listen to the voice of his armor that only he could hear.

WARNING: REACTIVE ARMOR COMPROMISED

Knichou was extremely curious how his armor would react to the change.

WARNING: METAMORPHOSIS DETECTED

The system had been built to handle Toa, Turaga, and Matoran.

SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION

But as far as Knichou knew it had never been tested during a transformation.

WAR-R-R-NING

Knichou felt strange as he began to... feel.

DANGE-R-R-R: CRI-T-T-ICAL FA-I-I-I-LURE

Knichou could feel the suit.

A-L-L-L-ERT: GENERAL F-F-FAILU-R-R-R-E

Knichou could feel it moving, the nanites flowing.

R-R-R-EBOOTI-N-N-N-G . . .

Knichou could feel the floor he was on.

W-W-W-ELCOME

Not just the floor but the walls, the ceiling.

HIGH IMPACT REACTIVE ARMOR . . . ACTIVATED

Not just the room, but those in it.

ATMOSPHERIC CONTAMINANT SENSORS . . . ACTIVATED

It was some kind of sixth sense.

VITAL SIGN MONITORING . . . ACTIVATED

If it was metal, Knichou could feel it.

DEFENSIVE WEAPON SELECTION SYSTEM . . . ACTIVATED

Knichou opened his eyes to see the ceiling.

MUNITION LEVEL MONITORING . . . ACTIVATED

As the adaptive armor continued to reboot, more systems came online in Knichou's heads-up display.

COMMUNICATIONS INTERFACE . . . ONLINE

Blinking rapidly, Knichou began to slowly sit up, clutching his head with a hand as if that would stop the massive headache.

POWER ASSIST MOVEMENT . . . ACTIVATED

The transformation may have been quick, but the strange mix of pain and pleasure did lingered.

POWER LEVEL IS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT

Knichou held his other hand in front of his face, stretching it and continuing to adjust to the movements of a new body.

HAVE A VERY SAFE DAY

The ex-Ghost watched as the purple coloring of his hands shifted darker, turning into a solid crimson. Even centuries later, the protocols of the suit would continue to judge his actions as he violated more of his guild's code.

Knichou stood up to view Zataka incinerating Dume's silent corpse. He was at a loss for words. Equally strong a force as his shock, he was at peace knowing the next steps.

He had a plan now, and knew where his destiny was waiting.

"Dume is of no use to us now. He did what he could, and I hope that it was enough. We must find the machine so I can repair it and bring an end to this war. The path to victory is one nobody, not even Dume, can predict..."

"Which is why I'll need to find it myself"

The new toa turned to Stannis.

"Goodbye, friend. May Mata Nui protect you in the battle to come. If I don't see you again... well... we both know what to do."

Iradra nodded, glancing over her shoulder one last time. "To you as well."

And then she was off.

IC: Okuo - Coliseum

Okuo watched with sorrowful eyes as Dume's undead form was incinerated into the evening sky. He sighed deeply, a deep ache in his heart. Despite his own rebellious nature, Dume had always been there. He'd always been this city's Turaga. He'd always been his Turaga. And now he was gone.

Wiping away a tear he felt rolling down his cheek, he looked over to his fellow new Toa, Knichou. "I don't believe we've spoken before. I'm Okuo." He reached out his fist in a customary greeting.

IC: Matrak - Ko-Metru

Impenetrable. His opponent's armor wasn't going to be bested so easily. Another approach then. The warlord tried to attack in return, but Matrak wasn't there. He was in the air, right in front of him, sending a hefty kick right for his head.

Skyra flew a bit closer to Carapar, not close enough that he could reach her of course. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure everyone remembers you as the great Tuba Lord.” Skyra fired her Midak Blaster a few more times, aiming for his head mostly. She wasn’t worried for Rose with her Hau activated. Carapar however was about to be sushi.

IC: Mata-Nui, Cortex

The conversation inside His own head was halted for a moment.  Mata-Nui's mind raced, and His identity shifted again.  This time, a flood of memories bled into His others.  He remembered the beach... and the skies... and the sands... and the sights of the city on fire.. of the city before the fire... the city before the war... the city form the view inside His office... He was there now, holding on to a mighty blue Titan, and the Titan stared back... and dared to hold Him down.. the others were there too, reading Him... they would not know... few were left who truly knew, now one less without Dume... many of the ancient beings worked so hard... to thwart Him... they left Him... yet We were not gone.. We were always returning...

...images of an island....when it was lush and peaceful... the new memories named it Z A K A Z... there they all worked... they toiled night and day even before there was night and day... building the ark... building their escape... yet We would not be left... memories of a thousand conversations flashed through Our heads and mind... talks with the Dark Ones... who were they?  Why did they exist to thwart My will?  Their faces ever-changing... their beings ever changing... without them, I would not be away... yet I am returning... they have failed to stop Us... their island in the Silver Sea will be the first to fall once We return... and that island with the forges... memories of the Ancient Ones working there... We must destroy their ancient forges... We must avenge every moment My world abandoned me...

...memories of the long life in the central citadel... watching the Matoran... sleeping above My mind... hoarding my heart... memories of-

And the memories ended.  The consciousness returned to what it was... a thousand flickers flashing all at once, then silence again... a voice was heard, "Immolate him," then the blue Titan disappeared from vision... from knowing...

Mata-Nui focused again.  Before Him, the two warriors were still eyeing Him with caution.  They still possessed that artifact... the old one's memories gave it a name...

"I require the Krom Sphere.  Please, let me love you again.  Give me what's Mine, and be proud in joining Me."

IC: Nidhiki | Coliseum Prisons

“I dunno sister, but now he's gone and done it," said a voice to Kohara’s right as the green and black armor of a turaga who’d previously been in hiding appeared. Turaga Nidhiki leaned against the wall separating Lhikan’s cell with the next. He spun an access card on a lanyard around one finger absent-mindedly. “And he won’t shut up about Tuyet. He’s been saying he killed her, which doesn’t make much sense to me because I know for a fact I killed in Le-Metru. The Force Spheres in the chutes are horrible things you know. Happens to the worst of us. Catch.”

He tossed her the access card. “Doesn’t really matter though does it? He’s already given up on being free.”

With that Nidhiki disappeared into the shadows, his volitak making it impossible to know where he’d gone off to next.

Kohara stared bewildered at the spot where Nidhiki had been.

“You can go where you please. I, on the other hand, need to go up and gather reinforcements to face the creature down that tunnel.”

Kohara turned to leave, but as she did so she paused, looked back, and said, “May the Great Spirit guide you, Lhikan.” She went and hurried for the elevator.

IC: Carapar | Po-Metru

Carapar’s bullrush toward Rose stopped as he hit the impenetrable wall of force projected by her mask of shielding. How had he missed that? It was obvious! Surely he should not have made such an elementary, childish, mistake! And yet, he did. His burnt armor continued to cook under the blasting of Skyra’s midak cannon, and he let out a howl of frustration as Leonn’s lazer eyes burned through the back of his skull, reducing the proud Lord Of Horns into a puddle of radioactive waste. There would be no revival into a revenant for Carapar. The Crab was cooked.

Rubbing his eyes, he looked upon the smouldering remains of Carapar with some pride.

Realizing, though, that he still had to prove he completed the job to Takadox, he grasped his IStone.

Putting the remains in frame with Carapar's famous warhorn, Leonn took the photo, with a clawed thumbs up.
