Six Kingdoms: Rebirth - Gameplay

Unreliable Narrator

IC: Nale Vella - "Po-Koro"

"It's a sore spot, I'd really prefer not to," Nale replied. Thom's attempt at dueling her, their reconciliation, and his death all happened within the span of minutes. The Fa-Toa avoided thinking about it, just like how she avoided thinking of the other ugly things that happened in Metru Nui.

"He tried to uh, help with the wound, I guess. But he was no doctor. That's all I can really say."

Keitara's dreams- ???

IC:

"Hello? Hello? Can you hear me?"
The Av-matoran groaned and opened her eyes. She couldn't recall where she was, but it seemed far too bright to be within the Core. She checked her back to feel if her flight pack had been damaged, but.... there was nothing there. Her body felt as though she were made of mist. Whispy and insubstantial, as if she might blow away at the slightest breeze...
Mist...
She looked down. Her body almost seemed to be made of the stuff, cloudy and indistinct. Like plant sap dripped into water.
She then looked up at the figure who had addressed her. They were likewise indistinct, but a good bit taller than she was. Still, they offered her a hand and she felt as though she could trust them.
As the figure helped her up, she addressed them. "Hello, I'm... I'm..." A look of mild panic flitted across the matoran's face. "I can't remember my name!"
"Don't worry," the figure replied calmly, gently resting a steadying yet slightly insubstantial hand on her shoulder. "Neither can I. So at least we're in the situation together."

Whatever mountain you are climbing, you can do this.

IC Collector - Metru-Koro

Wait a minute,” muttered Collector, and then they turned back to Atamai with a lurch, “If you were there when the Great Disks were turned in, and you saw them become one disk, did you see what happened to the machine? The one Turaga Dume had commissioned, that could empower anyone with the power of a Disk? The one to make an army of Matoran as strong as a Toa. What happened to the machine?” Their lips quivered like a Ta-Matoran in the icy wastelands of Ko-Metru.

OOC: @~Xemnas~ @Tarn @Snelly @Onaku Feel free to correct Collector on what Dume’s plan actually was, their knowledge is out of date. Also it’s worth noting Collector had mentioned he was a friend of Kanohi earlier, who Vashni might remember given that vision he shared with her.

IC: Irna | Outside Sans' Hut

"Keitara!"

Irna crouched next to the fallen woman, pressing her ear to her chest hard enough to still feel a heart beat underneath her armour -- the armour that had changed from black to white, grey to gold. But there wasn't time to think about that, not now, not while she was still unconscious.

Careful to moderate her force, Irna raised a hand up and--

WHACK!

--slapped Keitara across the face.

"Wake up," she said. "Wake up."

Keitara's mind-???

IC:

The matoran suddenly realized they were standing at the bank of a great canal. Silvery-blue liquid flowed serenely past, carrying the occasional small boat made of reed or scraps.
"Where are we?" she asked. The figure, still indistinct, was staring out at the structures to their left. Massive arthropods with carapaces of glass and wire, their enormous legs sinking deep below the surface of a vast blue sea. The sun... no, she realized with dawning shock, suns plural, were setting. The lights within the massive beetles burned creamy gold.
The matoran squeaked and clung to the larger figure's leg. "S-s-sorry," she stammered "I'm not very fond of the dark."
A hand rested gently on her head. "That's perfectly all right." Their voice was calm, soothing. "This is Ga-Metru, the great district of waves and knowledge. We are safe here. Though I do not recognize those matoran there."
The matoran looked over and her heart skipped a beat. "I know them! They're my friends! There's Dara and Nati, Tanma and Gavala, Neru, Takua..." Her voice trailed off. "But... that can't be right. Nati and Neru are dead, and Takua... he's been missing for years."
She looked up at the figure "Is this a dream? Are we dreaming? If we're both dreaming, how are we dreaming the same dream? What if one of us is dreaming the other. Gods and Great Beings, what if when we wake up-"
"Little one! Little one, be calm." The voice was soothing. "There is no need for panic."
The matoran sniffled. "Well, that's me. Always the coward. I couldn't bear to leave the lightvine back home when the cave-glow dimmed. Well, except that one time Balta didn't come back. I searched and searched. His leg was always a bit iffy, and sometimes he'd fall and damage his pack, I thought he might be..." Her voice trailed off.
"Well, that sounds plenty brave to me, little one. I think you are merely measuring yourself too harshly. Given time, I'd wager you could become quite the hero. Brave as any toa or avuurahk."
The matoran nestled against the figure's side, yawning. "I... feel sleepy. Does that mean I'm waking up? I don't want to wake up if that means you might disappear!"
The figure knelt down next to the matoran. "I'll tell you what. Why don't we both wake up at the same time? Then wherever we're going, we'll go together."
The matoran gulped nervously, then nodded. The two figures closed their eyes...

Keitara opened her eyes, groaning. She felt as though her back had been broken, then hastily reassembled by somebody who was not only using the wrong instruction book but also showed complete and total ignorance about the workings of the spine. She could move her hands and, albeit slightly, her neck. Anything else sent thunderbolts of pain shooting down her back.

She looked up into a long, worried face that she recognized as...

"Irna?" Suddenly the full context of her situation snapped back into focus. A slight flush crept to her cheeks as she realized the scene she had created.

She looked back up at the woman who had woken her up. "Thanks, Irna. I'm... I'm sorry to make such a scene." She chuckled embarassedly as she painfully made her way to her feet.

It was then that she noticed her hand. Or, more specifically, its color. "Oh...."

IC: Yaushe - Northern Desert

Yaushe had noted with annoyance that Mahryo had left her out of his list of companions when asking about the newcomer's approach, and as such didn't reply to Triki. After a minute, however, she did give him the decency of taking her hand brake off so he could roll her onto the ramp.

IC: Tekmo and Waveahk (Metru-Koro, Outside Sans's Hut)

"Are you alright, ma'am?" Tekmo asked Keitara. "I apologize if anything we did upset you."

"No, that's it, I'm done." Waveahk walked back inside the Turaga's hut to speak to Sans again.

Tekmo didn't take this well. "Wait! The line! YOU SAID THERE WAS A-oh, forget it."

Stepping inside, Waveahk began to describe the outside situation to his, er, 'employer'. "So, outside there's a drunkard, a woman who changes colour and just regained consciousness, your friend Stannis is questioning your plan for idiotic reasons, and there's two obviously willing and able to help Toa with a bag full of dead slugs, which are of course, relevant to our mission, and would like to speak with you as soon as possible. And also a Zyglak. Which do you think should speak to you first?"

"Uh, yeah. The head that apparently had Metru Nui in it. In all the confusion I managed to slip under their noses... a lot of my friends are still back there." Navu's expression and tone suddenly switches from somber to hopeful. "Is anyone making any plans to help them? You're a Toa, right? You know about that sort of thing?"

IC: Reliable Narrator, the view through Mazor's Scope
Looking through his scope at the early evening sky Mazor could see the multiple colors painted across the air and clouds: peach, streaking lines of burnt orange, light goldenrod, honeysuckle pink, and the softest kisses of periwinkle and lilac. The sun moved to the Western horizon slowly but surely. When Mazor returned to the surface of Metru-Nui a week ago he saw the red ring on the horizon no longer seared across the sky. It gratefully remained as nothing more than a recent memory in this strange new world.
His view trained on the dark purple and smoke colored clouds resting high in the sky. He could catch the same glint of sunlight from between them. As he saw every time he looked to the sky following this trail of rain and youth. The water fell from behind the clouds, but they were not rain clouds. He moved the scope's view a little higher. He knew a strange sphere hung in the sky just beyond the clouds. Sometimes he caught a glimpse or two, but never a full view. This evening proved lucky for Mazor.
The sunlight shone through the large glass sphere, glinting and making its own rainbows. Bigger than any airship, half of it looked shattered, destroyed by some unknown impact or explosion. From the shattered hole in the glass sphere poured the waterfall that became the youthful rain. He saw small peaks of green dangling over the sides of the floating sphere, but nothing discrete enough to accurately determine. His scope did not have enough magnitude to see so far in great detail. It looked impossibly high in the sky, so high he wondered if an airship could withstand the elevation.

IC: Rose - Metru-Koro (Love Shack)

IC: Datrox Karvan - Navu's Hut

"I..."

I paused. My time during the war had been spent avoiding my past, and roaming around Metru Nui like a vigilante to supposedly protect those that needed protecting. Yet here this woman was, a former slave, and I had done nothing to help many others like her.

Perhaps Tanaya and Eroni had been freeing people from the League's clutches before they were cut down, while I was--what was I doing? Hiding?

"I don't know, at the moment. It's been a very confusing time since the crash, but I would not discount that there is someone looking. Someone who cares, just like me."

Vent explained, before looking to their new friend. "Oh, this is Providence. He's a Gas-Man. From the Kumu thingies."

IC, Atamai: Metru-Koro

"Well, the machine could have given Matoran Kanoka powers, but that's not what Dume wanted to do. He wanted to fuse the six Great Disks into a Disk of Time, give Time powers to a Toa, and send them back to the past to kill the Barraki before they decided to go on their crusade. Another issue that we had to deal with after Dume died was that Toa Tuyet showed up and told us that we're actually all living in a time paradox and that she needed the time powers to go back and fix everything. At the time I was... teleporting around, saving some Matoran, but when I got back to where the machine was, Tuyet was gone, the Disk of Time had turned to slag, and the apocalypse continued. Tuyet must have failed. I'm not sure what happened to the machine. It was probably destroyed. I hope it was destroyed."

IC Collector - Metru-Koro

I … see,” Collector did not see, “So, Dume wished to erase all of history? And the Great Disks we’re merged, but are now destroyed. And Toa Tuyet said our reality was a time … paradox. That is … a lot to take In. You said the machine was gone, but the molten slag of the disks remained? Did the machine physically vanish, or was it merely demolished when you saw it.

They weren’t sure how much they believed these Toa, their suspension of disbelief had its limits, and time travel was close to breaking it. Kanohi was too naive to lie, he truly believed the machine existed, but if he only had secondhand knowledge it existed…

Then the machine might never have existed, and others had lied to Kanohi.

It’s possible the machine did exist, and if it could be recovered, Collector needed to know. But if it was broken, then it would need capable engineers who knew the technology to repair it, they would need resources even Metru-Koro lacked to make the repairs with, They would need a way to get past the Barraki, and they would finally need a strong enough disk of freezing, in a world where no more disks could be made.

The machine was … a goal. But not a reachable one. In the meantime, they should focus on these quests. And that was another issue.

I have thought of a potential issue. You said you found two disks, correct? Were they on the districts on the west coast of Metru-Nui? As the late Mata-Nui’s head has … pulverized the west coast of Zakaz, going to spots corresponding to some of the Great disks may prove … difficult.

IC [Nektann - Fort Nektann]:

Nektann made a sound that was halfway between chuckle and growl and could go either way. Boogeyman…

“Ain’t nothing lasts that long. I don’t deal like that. And I got plenty of what you got on offer. Ya gonna have to bring somethin’ new, boogeyman.”

The massive Skakdi rolled his shoulders, the sound of the grinding cartilage was like millstones at work.

IC [Takadox - The Wasteland]

“How much further, Skerek?”

The once smooth voice of the hypnotic warlord was raspy as he asked the question. He was tired, dehydrated, had a growing headache - oh and his entire life had literally come crashing down!

“Another day’s march, Turkeyduck, sir…” came the strongly accented reply from the Skakdi walking slightly ahead and off to his side.

The Barraki groaned, rubbing the bridge of his nose. He would have preferred someone else’s company right now, but that was over now too, broken off like the great spirit’s neck - right after he’d flushed his career down the drain so the two of them could make their piña colada escape.

Takadox. For the whatever-reth time, it's: Ta-ka-dox.”

He had befriended the local the day before, after their paths had crossed in a dried out ravine. They’d tried to confront him, but after asking them to kindly disarm themselves, the Skakdi was more than happy to share where they’d come from. Apparently, they were working for someone they just kept calling ‘the Boss’ who was ‘big an’ mean’. Such a wealth of information to go on. The caliber of volunteers on this dump of an island left the warlord wanting. Maybe this ‘Boss’ felt the same way, considering he’d sent Skerek out alone - possibly to get rid of them - to scout the crash site of Mata Nui’s head. But he never got that far, running into Takadox instead. With introductions over, Skerek had helpfully offered to take the Barraki to his home, some sort of fort out somewhere in the wild. The Barraki wasn’t looking forward to dealing with more people like this...but it was a start, somewhere he could make himself comfortable, take over and establish himself.

If this headache doesn’t kill me first.

IC:

Keitara looked in surprise to the other toa. "You're a light elemental as well? That's a releif. I was worried about how I might be received seeing as we always seem to be hunted by some shadowy organization or other. What aspect are you pretending to be? Kra-toa? Onu-toa?" She squinted closer at Skorm. "Oooh! A Toa of Twilight! A being who has mastery over both light and shadow! That's so amazing, I've always admired toa with bi-elemental mastery. Can I have your autograph?"

Her smile, coated with a fine sheen of silvery perspiration, looked more ghoulish than enthusiastic. It was clear that the stubborn Av-toa was determined to minimize the severity of her condition to the very end.

If things kept up, it very well might be for her. She looked like death on two very shaky legs.

IC: Ulkarr and Klawne (Po-Koro)

Ulkarr wondered if the one who spoke to him planned on returning sometime this century. Though he possessed infinite patience, his trust in the words of others, especially the words of lesser life-forms, was significantly smaller.

He heard such a life-form coming up behind him. Sparing a glance behind him, he saw that it was a small, weak vessel, who wouldn't be a problem.

"Excuse me," it said. "I, uh... take it you're the guard?"

"No."

"...Waiting for someone, are we?"

"Correct."

"...You won't mind if I go past you inside, then?"

"Not at all."

"Oh, thank you." As Klawne shambled past the not-guard, she wondered what kind of entity he was. A Toa? He had the build for it, most certainly. But that wasn't any Kanohi she recognized. Did these new Matoran-Toa-Turaga have different masks?

Well. She'd have to see for herself, wouldn't she?

IC: NU-8020S (Northern Desert, Vahki Transport)

Once the three fleshling volunteers and their primitive vehicle were aboard, NU-8020S wirelessly transmitted the command to the two Vahki controlling the vehicle to raise the boarding ramp, and continue their calculated patrol route until further notice. Hopefully, said notice would come in a matter of seconds.

As the Transport's motorized legs raised the main body in height and began ambulating the vehicle forward, the Squad Mother turned to address the one who had been referred to as 'Mahryo', who was obviously the organic squad's leader. "Are there any populated sectors in the vicinity you know of that would harbor a criminal of this magnitude?"

IC: Reliable Narrator | Temple to the East by South East of Metru Koro

To Sidra’s west she saw the massive skull of Mata Nui crashed from the heavens, and around it the glittering lake of toxic silver. To the East beyond the temple rose the still slowly erupting volcano. To the Northwest were cold and inhospitable mountain ranges with snow capped peaks, most were much smaller now after the impact.

The temple Sidra stood on the threshold of was made of orange siltstone and rose two stories high. The clay tile roof of the second story caved in centuries ago, and was now filled with ferns, air-dispersed weeds, and clinging vines which trailed their snaking green leaves down the sides and around the columns of the exterior. The temple had a hexagonal floor plan, but the Southern facing walls had decayed and fallen apart. Stones once used as columns dotted the small slope down back down toward the far swatch of toxic green marsh and forest in the distance.

Inside the temple the floor was cool and made of blackened lava rock with large pores in its surface. Weeds clung to small cracks in the floor, and fluttered in a soft Western breeze. Resting in the center of the room rose a domed structure half Sidra’s height, but at least her height in diameter. She recognized it immediately as one of the suvas used by toa that dotted the islands of her old world. The edges closest to the floor were covered in a thickly painted but well worn depiction of kanohi, rahi, and stars.

The small lizard who playfully approached her nektann drone had vanished, no doubt into some small hidey-hole in the ruined siltstone pillars holding up the decaying roof. She noticed there were twelve larger pillars located equidistantly around the perimeter of the temple, although the Southern ones were little more than wrecked stumps. Her shadow followed the direction of early twilight, stretching out behind her to the East and into the scrub brush and rocky hillside beyond.

IC: Sidra - Earth Temple

Skakdi had no need of Suvas, which confirmed what the Turaga had said about this land having once been home to Toa. The imagery of Kanohi and Rahi was familiar as well, evocative of masks and creatures she had seen in her travels. If the Great Spirit had been nothing more than a massive machine, carrying civilisation within it, then perhaps this planet was where the inhabitants had originally come from, or where another machine had crashed some time in the past?

And perhaps, somewhere on this island, was a clue to how they could all get back to where they belonged.

She approached the Suva, inspecting it for damage or some means of accessing it as she slowly circled around it. Toa in her world used their Suvas as storage for Kanohi, so perhaps there were still some masks of value in here, or something else that could be of use.

IC: Nale Vella - "Po-Koro"

Nale winced.

"Yeah, yep...just a little."

IC: Jutori - Metru-Koro

"Kilo!"

Jutori suddenly perked up at the sight of the Kralhi. They had a regular reunion going on here! Every member of the original Archives group was present--some a little different physically, like the now-Toa Jutori and Atamai, but still the same people. It was like taking part in the disk hunt all over again, except this time they weren't in Metru Nui, Turaga Dume and God were dead, and they were in Zakaz. Exactly like the disk hunt.

My eyes cast down to the floor for a moment. We'd felt safer here in the camps, away from the remains of the League and whatever may lie in the Zakazian wilderness, but the truth was we were still as susceptible to threats as always. If those remnants were to come here...

"I cannot say, nor would I like to entertain the thought at the moment. Just know you are in safe hands here, and if it were to happen...I would defend this village with my life."

IC: Mahryo - Northern Deserts

"Not at all, I'm afraid!" Mahryo rubbed the back of his head, feeling rather sheepish. "We've all forgotten everything, you see. All of our memories gone! Clearly the work of another dastardly villain - perhaps even this 'Takadox' fellow!"

Skyra put a hand on Keitara's shoulder. "Don't worry, once you've eaten a cheeseburger you'll feel a lot better! And hopefully less pale."

"Kilo, it's good to see you again." Vashni greeted the Kralhi. It was almost a miracle that they were all back together again like this. "How's island life been treating you?"
