Hapori Tohu
The popular Pick-A-Brick section of LEGO Shop at Home has been updated with a number of new elements, including some from Hero Factory sets. The update has also removed Hero Factory parts not appearing in the current set lineup. Presumably these changes will soon be reflected in the parts available for Recon Team custom builds, so fans interested in old-style heads should order now; otherwise, browse the online Pick-A-Brick wall. Aanchir
Too bad they're removing the old parts. I'm sure there's still a market for them.Something that has to be kept in mind is that Pick-A-Brick orders are hand-packed, just like Design byME and Hero Recon Team orders were. This is a complex process (that's part of the reason why Design byME did not prove economical in the long run), and the more parts are on the palette, the more complex (and thus, costly) it is. Only so many new parts can be added without older parts being taken away.Additionally, it's probably costly to keep certain older parts in production when they're no longer appearing in sets. Sumiki
Still, it's basically LEGO saying "hey, we're never going to make these parts again." They don't seem to exhibit any intention of re-utilizing the molds in the future, and they could. Heck, it's not like the system's incompatible. The G-Man
And Bionicle got like 5 parts before in this. Shameful, Lego. Aanchir
This is great this means more replacement parts YAY!!!!!!Well, replacement parts for broken, lost, missing, or defective parts aren't really affected by this-- for those, you can still use the LEGO replacement parts service whether or not the items are available for individual sale on Pick-A-Brick. If a part was defective or missing from the original package, or if it broke during building, they might even replace it free-of-charge, although they may also request that you send them any broken parts so they can examine them and find out why they broke. But if, for instance, you wanted to give back armor to some of the Hero Factory sets this year that lack it, that's something that Pick-A-Brick could be useful for. I certainly plan on possibly placing some orders for modifications I have planned for some of this year's sets. Makuta_of_Oz
I remember Lego once said they were considering adding Bionicle elements to Pick-a-Brick. It was actually mentioned in an e-mail conversation I had with LEGO a couple of years ago (the second reply mentions it).A heads-up: that link goes to the archive, and the logging out issue has not been resolved at time of writing. I'm at $21 and I did not get all her parts in my bag yet...Yeah, buying a full set in Pick-A-Brick parts isn't usually practical. Even if you're buying the same parts, there's a difference in cost between mass-producing a set on a semi-automated assembly line and packing the parts to that set by hand on an individual, on-demand basis. And that's reflected by a steep difference in price (although not as much as was the case with Design byME, which added 25% to the cost of each individual part plus a ten-dollar flat rate for each complete order). You'd probably get Breez cheaper just by ordering her from a seller overseas.I believe Hero Recon Team can be more economical than Pick-A-Brick, depending on what parts you get, but of course that's partly because the parts you order follow a more consistent pattern, and so packing is probably far simpler. And even Hero Recon Team charges you the price of a medium-price-range set (i.e. a 2011 villain set) for a model just slightly larger than the biggest 2011 Hero sets (35 pieces versus 31).
