I didn't find it TOO horrible. I do think Metallica should've saved a lot of the instrumental parts for their own music (Mistress Dread sounds like early Metallica), but I stick by with what I said before. It's interesting to hear Reed's vocals on this type of music.

"Be quiet! Do you wanna wake the whole planet?!"
"...I do."

It's not failing when someone actually takes it seriously. But I wasn't trolling this time. I mean, that is like, one of our only private memes.I was trying to remind everyone of how great it was. And here you are, breaking my heart.

you know it's not a meme if you're the only one trying to spread it. you can't force a meme, that's not how it works.

Gotta say that I really enjoyed the Black Album, Load, Reload and Death Magnetic, tho.

I don't like them because there to commercial and stray away from the sound that made the first 3 albums awesome.
Commercialism =/= Quality. Also, I love it when bands experiment with their sound. Keeps them from becoming stale and boring, IMHO.

i'm all for bands experimenting. just as long as it still sounds good. death magnetic failed there for me.

How?

it felt like they were trying to bring back their "classic" sound, which would be good except it lacked that spark that the old albums had. it felt like imitation metallica as opposed to the actual thing.

that really wasn't the main problem to me, but that was an issue. alsoooooo anyone here love After the Burial as much as i do? In Dreams is so great, and they were fantastic when i saw them on the all-stars tour. shame i missed them when they came through here with veil of maya and within the ruins, two other bands i love a whole lot

I wasn't the only one who ever did this, trust me. It's an inside joke. Why are you so hostile towards me?

It did lack that spark, and I feel that Metallica hasn't, and definitely had not let go of commericalism when they made DM. Just look at how much attention they tried to get off the album. And not to mention, many of the songs used formula of 80s Metallica songs.

Understandable, personally I would throw Rage Against The Machine in the Rap Rock genre. I mean which song did you listen to, cause I tried to classify "I Shot Lucifer" as rap rock myself, but honestly it sounds too metal to me. Anyways my knowledge of Metal only really scratches the surface, I originally I hated it, thought it was the worst genre, but after a couple listens the genre grew on me thanks to my best friend. Apparently Soil is like five different types of metal and I've listened to only one nonpoint song, which apparently qualifies as alternative metal. Any good bands beside the obvious choices?

i'll give you some suggestions, just give me a list of your favorite metal bands

Gonna listen to Lulu tomorrow. Gonna be the worst thing of all time.

it's not as bad as everyone is saying it is. it is certainly not good, but the reaction everyone is having is a ridiculous. if you enjoy lou reed's stuff you'll have a higher chance of enjoying it than if you don't, considering this is basically a lou reed album with james hetfield occasionally screaming about being a piece of furniture Edited by Idunnolol

XD I watched Dream Theater's Live at Budokan DVD the other day. I have to say, it's probably the best concert video I've ever seen. Incredible musicianship and songs. John Petrucci is a freaking god on the guitar. Edited by ~Takava Nirhii~

I'm getting a mixed bag of negative reactions to Lulu. Could anyone tell me their thoughts that aren't "oh gosh it's so terrible don't ever listen to it"? And this is to a person who enjoys Classic Metallica quite a bit and has barely heard of Lou Reed. :P

it's basically a giant glob of spoken word sections placed over mediocre riffs that repeat endlessly. it's also way too long at 87 minutes also despite it not being very good you should absolutely listen to it if not to just witness the trainwreck

Ah, okay.So the format of The View is the same for all of the album. I might try listening to it sometime.

I'm excited for new Cynic. From what I've heard, it sounds pretty good. Also, I'm kinda excited for the new Megadeth. If it sounds like Sudden Death all the way through, meh.

I'm listening through Th1rt3en right now, and it's pretty sweet. The only bad bit I've discovered so far is "Fast Lane", which is basically a rehash of "502" and "1,320" with waaaay cheesier lyrics. "We The People" was great, probably my favourite, and the remake of "New World Order" is pretty cool. Sudden Death was changed a bit, so it's slightly better, but luckily the album is not all like that. The only one that is comparable (but better) is "Never Dead" which was already released.

Once again I'll have to disagree with you. Call me a Megadeth fanboy, but I love the majority of Dave's lyrics. Everyone makes bad songs sometimes, or bits that don't quite fit, but he's got lots of originality and only recently I feel he's been writing some weaker songs. I still enjoy them though. And after 14 albums the guy's gotta' be running a bit dry, so I can't blame him.
