IC: Saosin (Sinful Saloon, Kansas)"Well, look at it this way: the boss can sense Omega Radiation, right? I figure he probably already has sensed what powers we have and deduced who we are; the fact that he hasn't vaporized us with a finger snap yet means something. The Coalition sent you after Hexas, right? They probably want her out of the picture just as much as we do, for whatever reason. He's not gonna vaporize you - he'll probably welcome the chance to watch you fight off the Coalition members while we take out Romulus. As for the rest of the Coalition...well, you're the only one they really have a problem with. The way I see it, the only way to make this work is to use you as bait."-Teezy

IC: Ember sighed, walking over to the sink and leaning on the counter, staring into the mirror. He listened to Tillian speak and thought over their few options. After a moment, he sighed and nodded. "Okay... I'll do it... But you guys can't leave me behind. I'm not staying here with them. Deal?"

"Quis custodiet ipsos custodies? Your grace."

"I know that one. 'Who watches the Watchmen?' Me, Mr. Pessimal."

"Ah, but who watches you, your grace?"

"I do that too. All the time."

IC: Negafire glanced down at Tillian's hand, then shrugged it off his shoulder. "You're gonna want to not be touching me for this." He took a deep breath, bracing himself for what was to come. A blue burst of flame enveloped him and quickly died away, leaving him in his blue supersuit again. He snapped his fingers and ignited his hair, the blue fire dancing on his head. "Alright... Let's do this." He unlocked the door and strode out into the bar, his shoulders back and his head held high. In a place where everyone tried to lay low, someone who looked confident would stand out like a sore thumb. He considered how to best start a distraction, and decided to start small. He headed for Gap, smiling as he got close. "Well well, look who we have here!" He exclaimed, extending his hand. "Well, what brings you here, Gap?" He made sure to speak slightly louder than necessary, hoping to bait someone else into approaching and starting a scene.

"Quis custodiet ipsos custodies? Your grace."

NPC: Ultionis nodded absently at Paige (wasn't that an actual name?) in response to her awkward greeting, but inwardly she held his focus only for a moment. About long enough to think Great. Definitely a rookie. Still, he decided not to share his opinion just yet. First get a read on the rest, maybe wait to see if anyone surprises him, then give X-Calibur a tactical assessment. (H-D)

IC(NPC) - X-Calibur @ League HQ"Paige, Neil, are those your aliases?" Enquired X-Calibur. There were plenty of League members who didn't go by an alias, and were happy to be referred to by their first name - Kengen and Lucille were two examples off the top of his head - but it wasn't a practise X-Calibur wholly agreed with. Apart from many first names being common and easy to get mixed up, he wasn't sure that people always thought through their decision not to keep their identity a secret. He was giving Paige and Neil the chance to correct this now. Of course, if they didn't want an alias then he wasn't going to argue the point. IC - Gap @ The Sinful SaloonGap had just gotten to her feet when Negafire approached - she felt the heat of his flames a few seconds before he spoke, and spun around to face him, half-expecting another attack. "Well well, look who we have here! Well, what brings you here, Gap?"She was a little confused as to why Negafire was greeting her so warmly. They'd only worked together the once. Perhaps, like Metallurge, he was just being a suckup. She took the proffered hand tentatively."Hello, Negafire," said Gap. "I'm actually about to embark on an escort mission." With Cobrahood gone, she figured that someone ought to take his place and it might as well be her. "Have you been busy?"IC - Gadgeteer @ The Sinful SaloonNow that they had a moment in private Gadgeteer began checking over his armour. Everything seeming to be running smoothly, that is, as smoothly as this low-tech battle suit could manage. For a moment he switched to thermal imaging vision and surveyed the place - he didn't want to be caught unaware by any invisible villains or the like, but thankfully there didn't seem to be any."I am ready," he said at a low volume. "Let us confront Romulus..."

"Subconscious manipulation. See the alcoholic bum sleeping off a hangover on the bench over there?"He closed his eyes and his brow furrowed in thought for a second, and after a second, it became clear why: the bum quickly jerked his head up, wide awake, and began to run around in a circle, wide-eyed, and making police siren noises."I just made him think he's a cop car," Christian said quietly, as the bum dropped to his knees in confusion. IC: Ember smiled at Gap and shook her hand warmly. He really did like her, mainly because unlike most Coalition members, who treated him like something they found on the botton of their combat boots, Gap actually treated him like a person. And it didn't hurt that she was pretty cute, too. Too bad that after this was over, he'd never see her again."Eh, not very. Got put on guard duty, got pulled off an hour later. I'm not cut out to be a guard, I guess. Mr. Mystery sent me undercover, posing as Plasmafire in order to help obtain some files, but then the Hexas thing came up. Because of my cover story, I had to abandon the mission under the cover of 'providing support'. I've been laying low ever since. Funny thing, stepping into a heroes shoes. It's surprisingly easy, and not as bad as you might think." He said this last part rather loudly, hoping to attract some attention for saying heroes aren't so bad.

IC(NPC) - X-Calibur @ League HQX-Calibur nodded as he listened to the three explain their abilities. "That's alright, I prefer to use aliases during hero work anyway. They're more unique; less chance of getting anyone mixed up with someone else." He looked around the hangar; as always, there were heroes coming and going, but no-one else seemed to be approaching their group. "Well, we've assembled quite a sizeable party here. Let's get on-board and I'll set the jet to autopilot. I'll go over our mission objective and plan of approach once we're inside, so that we're all on the same page." With that, he slid open one of the League Jet's side doors and climbed in.IC - Gap @ The Sinful Saloon"That's funny, flame-face. In her hands she held two cocktails."I said I didn't want a drink," said Gap insistently."Good thing, too, 'cause these are both mine," said the villainness with a grin. She drained one. Gap folded her arms, and was about to demand information from Metallurge about potential missions when another voice cut in."Going soft? That's the problem with these new recruits; no backbone."The voice (a somewhat nasally one) belonged to Invis-O, a tall man in a grey-and-silver supersuit. He was your run-of-the-mill hypocrite: happy to dish out insults and orders when, in reality, he was one of the worst cowards to have been allowed membership into the Coalition. On this particular occasion he'd just endured being picked on by several other drunken villains, and, having heard Negafire's utterance, couldn't resist the chance to feel better about himself. He continued:"I bet you've just come back from your first dangerous mission. First taste of risk and you're already thinking about switching sides. Pathetic..."

NPC: Ultionis followed X-Calibur up the rank almost immediately. Finally they could get back to the mission. The first lady had been missing for over twenty-four hours and he had no plans of sitting on his a- armored rear end any longer. The sooner he could retrieve her the better off they'd all be. IC (Dr. Creation, En route to New York)Dr. Creation was willing to concede one thing, for all of its faults; the modern world did indeed have some very efficient methods of transportation. If the Union had had access to the semi-truck then they could have ended the war very quickly indeed. It had taken him some time to learn to drive this mechanical marvel and it had taken him even more time to hack into the government databases, print himself off a license, fabricate a social security number and add himself to the registry. His four robots were resting safely in the trailer and though he was currently stuck in a rather annoying traffic jam upon a highway, his estimations were quite optimistic about his arrival time in New York. Of course if this delay lasted much longer he would have to revise his conclusions. But as it stood he could stand a few hours of waiting. It wasn’t like the world would end if he didn’t get to New York city at the exact time had planned. After all, his targets would be there for several days at least.

IC: Ember smiled coldly and crossed his arms. The little group was starting to draw attention from around the room... Perfect. "Well, you got part of it right. I /did/ kidnap Danielle Thomas this morning, got shot up a bit. Cosmaraul pumped my brain full of terror after that. But I never said anything about switching sides. IC: Skyra - Entering League Jet -"Fanatic, everyone and the peanut gallery is here! I call shotgun..." Skyra said cheekily as he entered the jet. When he got inside he did in fact take shotgun. [iC - Mystic] Mystic fell into step next to X-Calibur as she entered the League jet."In the interest of seeing that this mission goes smoothly, I feel I should warn you of a few things," she said, her tone just slightly above a whisper. "You'll be seeing things the way I do, and you might find it... difficult to adjust to. I don't mean to imply a lack of confidence in your abilities; it's just simply that your brain is wired towards seeing with only one set of eyes; focusing on just one thing at a time. It's not like watching video feeds on two different monitors; everything they see, you'll see at the same time, and you'll see it all at once. I will do my best to make the process easier for you, but you will still likely find it to be very disorienting."[For Science!]

IC(NPC) - X-Calibur @ League HQ"Alright. Thanks for the warning," replied X-Calibur in a low voice. "If it is too much for me to adjust to, I suppose you could resort to streaming just one of their minds." He clambered into the pilot's seat, and began manipulating the controls. There was a muted whine as the League Jet's doors closed and it took off, rocketing out across the New York skyline and fading into invisibility. After a minute or so X-Calibur entered the coordinates of their destination and flicked the autopilot on. He swivelled around in his chair to face the others."Okay, everybody," he announced, "let's all get up to speed. By following a chain of clues that began with the kidnap of Danielle Thomas yesterday, myself and a few other heroes have come upon the existence of a secret... something that belongs to the Coalition of Corruption. All we know for sure is that a fortnight ago they arranged for numerous materials to be sent to a specific location within a forest in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The materials are too vague for us to guess at what they could be building with them - the two possibilities are a superweapon or a base. If it's a superweapon, then it's safe to assume that it hasn't been completed or we'd probably know about it by know."Since the Coalition has exercised secrecy in having the materials sent to this location it's pretty clear that they don't want anybody to know about it. So the defenses they have in place - and I'm sure they'll have defenses - will be discreet. A number of the surrounding forests are government-owned and regularly patrolled by rangers, so these defenses would have to be designed to turn away accidental intruders without causing them any harm. This works in our favour, since we can make an approach without expecting huge resistance. Once we get to whatever it is they're building, though... I'd say just be prepared for anything. If it's a superweapon they'll most likely do everything they can to escape with it; if it's a base they'll do whatever they can to defend it."I just want to say at this point that I can see several young faces amongst you. Since you've been accepted into the League I don't doubt your abilities, and I don't want to patronize you, but it's possible that some of you may never have gone up against the Coalition before. These guys aren't like any other villains you know. Of course, like the League, the competence of a Coalition member varies from villain to villain, but there are some that... well, if I or another member of the group recognises a particularly dangerous one and warns you to stay away, maybe even run away, then do it. Don't be afraid of looking like a coward. There's a difference between being a hero and being suicidal."Now, my plan for our approach is this. Once we get close to our destination, Ultionis and Mr. No-One," he pointed at the two, so the newcomers could know who they were, "will leave the jet and stealthily approach the target location from two different angles. Mystic," he pointed again, "will use her psychic powers to stream everything they see and hear into my head. That way we can spot any traps. Magneta, you use your magnetic abilities to sense the shape of whatever it is the Coalition's building. Nil, you use your powers to try and detect any computer signals in the area and translate them for us, if you think they sound relevant. The minute that Ultionis or Mr. No-One encounters trouble, the rest of us will head down - it'll probably mean that our cover's blown. From that point on I can't really plan anything yet as the possibilities as to what we'll find are too extensive. We must try to work as a team though. There's a strong mix of powers in this group and if we support each other we'll be even stronger. If you have a power that can be used to protect others from attacks, be mindful of the less defensive members of the group. Epsilon, your shape-changing ability might be handy for confusing any Coalition members we run into. The rest of you, if Epsilon is nowhere to be seen, try not to attack any Coalition members that aren't attacking you. Mystic, coordinate the group as best as you can. Nil, my helmet," he tapped it, "contains an HUD and wireless communicator, so if you need to contact me discreetly you can make use of that." X-Calibur paused, head bowed thoughtfully for a moment, then looked up."That's all I can think of. Any questions?"IC - Gadgeteer @ The Sinful SaloonWalking with the others, Gadgeteer maintained the same confident swagger as before. The more intimidating they looked, the less likely it was Romulus would want to start something. The only thing that concerned him was Romulus' background. Viktor had experience with Eastern-European mercenaries, and they could handle a lot of intimidation.IC - Gap @ The Sinful SaloonGap hesitated. She agreed with Negafire in principle, but didn't want to take sides in what was clearly an escalating argument. Luckily Invis-O spoke before she could have answered anyway."Like a man?" He snorted. "Like a chump, you mean. You're honestly trying to pass off getting shot as a sign of competence? I assassinated the President of Slovenia-""Ex-president," Metallurge corrected."- whatever, he had dozens of bodyguards-""-when he was President-""- the point is, you know how I came out of that mission? Same as I went in, minus one bullet. Actually, I can see why you were thinking of becoming a hero. They've no skill or subtlely at all, they just go around punching things. I suppose that's the sort of lifestyle your simple mind could handle..."

IC: The twin buzzsaws collided in midair narrowly above Fellwyd's head, just as planned. Rather than explode, or suddenly veer downwards they instead just seemed to fade away to nothingness after hitting each other, making it unclear if that was what normally happened or Mastermind himself just didn't want them around anymore."Not much sport in fighting someone who won't fight back.." he spat, striding fowards to the so-called Sarah's prone form and prodding her in the side with his foot. She didn't seem to be getting up, possibly out of the fight for good... most likely totally unconcious. Still, a good prodding was always a good way to test how she was faring. Forming a jagged energy blade on his arm, a psychic wristblade of Silver's sort-of-well-known shape, Mastermind hovered it over the aquakinetic's downed form. Maybe she wouldn't wake up anytime soon, but at least the threat should goad the ugly one into actually attacking. Just throwing things at him didn't sharpen his skills, and it was becoming a bit of a bore...

NPC: Ultionis nodded approvingly as the plan was explained - not that anyone could really tell it from a simple 'I hear you' nod, mask and all. Everything seemed to be in order: simple recon on his end, backup ready in case of trouble, and the others seemed to be figuring out how to work together. He did have concerns about Mr. No-One - not that he wasn't both highly skilled in his field and a proven combatant, but the CIA didn't usually deal in forest environments where camoflage and a constant eye on the ground would be necessary to even have a chance of getting by unnoticed. He'd just have to bring it up once they got closer, though.(H-D)

IC: "'Like a chump?' Were I shot my a member of the Secret Service from fifty feet away, I might agree with you. However, I was shot at by a sniper, trained to take down superhuman targets, armed with fire extinguishing rounds. The fact that I came out of there with only one bullet in my shoulder speaks in my favor, I believe. My quick thinking and reflexes saved me, not ''going around punching things'. I never said I wanted to be a hero, I'm a Coalition member for a reason. So I'd apreciate it if you stopped insinuating otherwise. If you came over here looking for a fight, you came to the right place. But you run from fights anyway, so I guess I don't have to worry about cleaning your blood off my suit." IC(Fellwyd): The alien quickly got to his feet, assessing the situation at a distance. On the surface, it appeared that Mastermind was going in for the kill, but, realistically, with Sluice unconscious, he could deal with her at his leisure - and it would be foolish to devote his full attention to the unconscious combatant while the other one was still up and quite capable of fighting. Fellwyd doubted that Mastermind had established himself as the champion by making that kind of mistake.Moving slowly, the alien circled his enemy, edging slightly closer as he did so. He couldn't do anything big while Mastermind was waiting for him to make a move - that would just result in him sharing the fate of every fighter who'd ever found themselves facing Mastermind under similar circumstances. Waiting would have to do, and so the alien circled, watching for his enemy to make a move, even as his enemy did the exact same thing. With the alien's rather cautious approach to hand-to-hand combat, it seemed unlikely that the spectators would be getting what they had paid to see.IC(Mr. No-One): The spy shifted uncomfortably in his seat as the briefing got to the point of what he needed to do. When the time for questions came, he cleared his throat before speaking up."One small concern I have is camouflage. I understand that the League's access to the proper sort of equipment is a little limited, but with even the sort of basic stuff that's sold to sportsmen - not the orange jacket, of course, but the useful stuff - it would probably take me a bit longer to run into trouble, which means I'll be able to gather more intelligence. He paused for a moment, thinking."Of course, if you don't have anything, I could probably just cover myself in mud and leaves. Given that we're on a bit of a tight schedule, that's not, of course, a preferred option, but it's better than nothing."

"...And you have no problem with doing that?" asked Taylor, leaning away from Christian, "What are you going to do? Is he going to be doing that for the rest of his life?"

Dieter Geist, Grau/Arriving at Sinful SaloonIC:

Grau gazed across the Kansan plains. A whole bunch of boringness, spotted by towns and a few mountains, even cities. He had visited Sinful Saloon once or twice, and it wasn't perfectly suited for him. Oh, occasionally he liked a drunken rage and a bar fight. Not usually, though. Usually he preferred quieter, evil boding. Maybe torturing someone - like that one time he was placed in Bastille for a month or so after he murdered the entire population of a street. That was fun.

Chuckling, he began to lower his altitude. There was the Saloon, landing pad and all. In a few minutes, he had landed perfectly and dragged his two prisoners of of the tiltrotor. Then, easily carrying one over each shoulder, he strolled into the building, looking for the ones he was supposed to meet.
