Reintroduction to Spherus Magna Scientific Journal

Entry 1

I am Jafu, formerly an onu-matoran resident of the Matoran Universe. Following our evacuation onto Bara Magna, several other archivists and I deemed it prudent to begin collecting information on this world and the species which inhabit it to help us transition to our new home. Several Glatorian have offered to aid us and act as guides. I will be working with a green armored one who they call Vastus. He will escort me through the jungle to catalogue rahi. I will be keeping this journal to record my journey.

Entry 2

I have been abundantly productive so far. Over 42 new species have been recorded, mostly insects and flying rahi as of yet. Vastus is a natural; he is able to snare rahi with ease and can spot all kinds of camouflaged creatures. I believe this could be attributed to his experience in combat. I have learned much about this world’s history from him, although I know very little of his personal history. He has mentioned a cave deep in the jungle that is home to many rahi. We will travel there soon.

Entry 3

On the way to the cave, Vastus and I recorded 37 new rahi. This is not the barren wasteland I have been expecting. Every tree and bush is filled with life. Vastus doesn’t even know all of the Rahi, and he’s lived here for hundreds of thousands of years! Clearly we have much to learn still. At the cave, we found the most extraordinary rahi I have ever seen; it was roughly the size of a matoran, with short stubby legs and four muscular arms. Its head resembled a great kanohi mahiki, and it had three wickedly sharp horns protruding from its forehead. The most amazing feature however, was its skin: it was constantly changing color and texture. One moment it would be green and slimy-looking, the next it would be bright blue and covered in scales. Vastus said that they had no name for this creature, so I will call it a mahikahi, after the mask of illusion and the shape of its head-I wonder if there is any correlation? We will explore the cave later.

Entry 4

Disaster occurred in the cave, I am now stuck in a deep cavern. I am fine, and will continue my journal until help arrives. Before Vastus and I were able to investigate the cave, an agori messenger came to bring Vastus back to New Atero. I told him that I would remain at the cave, studying the rahi, until he returned. He agreed, and sped off towards the settlement. I spent several hours exploring the cave, for it was a fantastic feeling to be underground again, deep in the cave I found several insectoid rahi that resemble miniature nui-ramas. I will ask Vastus about them when I get out of here. After several hours, I found myself at the far wall of the cave, when I turned to head back, the ground beneath me cracked and I fell into a large hole. I landed on the floor of an enormous cavern, which is made of some kind of glowing rock. There appears to be a tunnel on one wall, I will see where it leads.

Entry 5

I followed the tunnel, and it led to a nearly identical cavern. Tired from my exploration and fall, I sat on a bluish-gray rock to rest. Nearly as soon as I sat down, the rock began to vibrate! I backed away and observed as the rock unfolded into a small rahi! It looked kind of like a matoran, but it had long, pointed feet and massive, scoop-like paws. The head was odd too, it was very angular, and there didn’t appear to be any kind of mouth. One of its eyes was bright blue, and the other was blue-green. It stood there, staring at me, and then walked off into another tunnel. I am going to follow it now.

Entry 6

I followed the creature for a long while. It occasionally looked back over its shoulder at me, but did not otherwise seem to acknowledge my presence. Finally, we reached an even larger cavern than the one I landed in, and the creature stopped. It stood for a moment, and then let out a shrill sort of scream. In response, all of the rocks in the cave began vibrating, and all shifted into more of the rahi. They must have been hiding from something; maybe they heard the sound of my fall, for I know many subterranean rahi have enhanced hearing. They began coming towards me, and soon the one I had followed and I were surrounded by them. A large, gold and blue one stepped out, and came towards us. I then experienced an odd episode: I could feel the creatures mind extending out towards mine, and I felt it think to me: who are you?I mentally replied with the story of how I came to be there, and the creature withdrew his mind. She (for I strongly believe that it was female) turned to the surrounding crowd and let out several screeches and clicks, apparently communicating with them. They all turned and left, so I assume they do not see me as a threat.

Entry 7

The underground creatures have been very interesting to observe. Their large, shovel-like hands are in fact digging tools; they use them to scoop away the cave walls. They are quite efficient, and have made at least three new caverns since my arrival.I estimate that I have been here for two days, but it is hard to tell without detectable night and day. The creatures never seem to sleep, but I have seen them curl up in rock form to both rest and hide. Every time there is a noise or vibration, they just fold themselves up and lay in rock form for several minutes. Perhaps there is some fierce predator of these rahi which I have yet to see.

Entry 8

I have been following the creature that I initially stumbled upon, and she (or at least I think it's a she) has grown accustomed to my presence. However, I haven't been in contact with the telepathic one since my arrival. In addition to that, none of the other ones can communicate with me, so I must learn through observation.

Entry 9

Earlier, the creatures were having trouble carrying a rather large rock; so I helped them lift it. Underneath was a small glowing snake, which terrified the creatures. Upon seeing it, they ran away screaming in their screechy language. I didnt see what was so frightening about the snake at first, but then it began to grow and change until, standing before me, was an exact replica of myself. The next thing I remember was a blinding flash, and seeing the snake-me flee with a look of terror on it's face. I then blacked out, and woke up back in the main cavern. I will try to find out what happened.
