Lines In The Sand

Kororua stared. The tribe elders were about to make the great decision. The sand tribe of Glatorian, known as the Vorox were the highest civilization on the world of Spherus Magna. Hidden in the blowing sands of the desert, the Vorox Glatorian, with their shorter Agori companions, had created a great society. Although nomads, the sand tribe was the epitome of a perfect society. They needed no laws, for they would not be broken. They lived a peaceful, nomadic life in the wastelands. Before now, the sand tribe had never known hate, war, or violence. But that had all changed, causing this meeting of the Great Council.Kozurua, the head elder, spoke.“As you all surely know, a strange silver fluid has appeared on our world. Its properties are quite unique. You see, whenever anything contacts it, the coin toss of destiny begins. This fluid may transform an object or being into something stronger, better... Or it may be destroyed.”“The Element Lords are fighting,” a Council member named Katorua replied. “Our planet risks a great war.”Kororua could not let this stand.“No! Kaerua would never do such a thing!” he yelled.“But Kaerua is an Element Lord now,” Kozurua replied. “Now he has a great responsibility, and I fear the greed of Ice may doom us all.”“The tribes are warring,” said Katorua. “And we may be caught in it, whether we want it or not.”“So, it has come to this,” replied Kozurua. “The planet... is in danger of shattering. If we are to save ourselves, we must send our children south to the jungle, in order to build a new isolated civilization free of the turmoil of the outside world. Meanwhile, the rest of us will deal with things here.”Everybody gasped. That proved to be a bad idea when one of the younger Vorox inhaled an insect.“But Kozurua,” argued Katorua, “How will we survive? Surely the impeding shattering will doom us all! We will have no land, no resources!”“There are ancient ways,” Kozurua reminded. “We have not always known where the oases are, or had the relationships to buy food from trade caravans, and so on. If you can shoot a Thornax, you can hunt. If you can swing a sword, that is enough. When the Shattering comes, the survivors can start anew, just as our children will.”Kororua sat in silence as the council adjourned for the day. He wondered just what difficult roads lay ahead.Yes. The little beings on the surface desire my power, the ancient entity thought. Very well. That little being, of the Fire Tribe, the one called Madis, he shall taste my power. And he shall regret it for the rest of his drastically shortened life...The council had made its decision. The Vorox were transporting their children to the jungle, to build a new life. Kororua was taking his young son, barely five years old, to the final domain of the Vorox. But all of a sudden, the ground opened up. Cracks began to spread. A great chasm separated Kororua and his son. The young boy cried out for his father, who could do nothing. All Kororua knew was that his son was the future, and he would be the past. As cracks spread beneath his feet, Kororua knew what had to be. As Kororua toppled into the chasm, he voiced a final wish.Go, son. Build a new life for the Vorox. Make us what we once were. The Vorox will rise again, once this is all over. We’re starting over now, go do us proud. You have a long, hard, wonderful road ahead of you. Fulfill your destiny...Kabrua.

Interesting take on the Vorox civilization prior to their decline. I also like the origin of Kabrua, and the whole past/future comparison. The "ancient entity" line (whom I presume to be Anona?) seems a little out of place and not at all connected to what's happening in the story, however.

I shall be saying this with a sigh

somewhere ages and ages hence:

two roads diverged in a wood, and I

I took the one less traveled by

and that has made all the difference.

No, the ancient entity is the Energized Protodermis Entity. Does that seem a little more connected?

Yup...oh, now it's clearer. Re-reading sure is helpful (especially when it's not right after math homework). ^_^
