New LEGO Lord of the Rings Game Confirmed

Recommended Posts

It has been speculated for some time, but only now has it been confirmed that a LEGO Lord of the Rings video game is being developed by Traveler's Tales and its parent company Warner Bros. Confirmation comes in the form of promos found in early-releases of the LotR LEGO sets, even though Warner has not made any official announcement. With the success of previous titles such as LEGO Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Harry Potter, LEGO LotR will certainly be an exciting addition to the LEGO video game franchise!

Lol, I read the first article on Lego Lord of the Rings sets as suggesting a video game was in production only to realize the wording didn't suggest what I thought it did. Apparently I was right. :PI do hope Lego Lord of the Rings will provide as enjoyable an experience as games such as Lego Star Wars III provided.

Yay! Hopefully they will do something different than the standard Lego star wars thing, though if they did, I hope there is a mode for big battles like in Lego star wars 3. I can just see a pelanor fields level like that. I'm excited now

This doesn't surprise me at all. Hopefully these games will be as good as the previous Lego games. :)Also, I wonder if these games will have voice acting, like in the new Batman Lego game coming out.

My biggest problem will be deciding whether to play it on the PC or the Xbox. :PEither way, this should be a good 'un.

PC, but I'm biased. This looks awesome. I hope they change it up a bit, though. Recently the Lego games have been getting formulaic. It would be nice if they would break the mold for a change.-don't touch my pocket protector

I can already see the huge battlefields full of Uruk-Hai. Anyway, I´ll most likely not buy this game like all other LEGO videogames before. It sounds like it´s going to be some fun, though!-Gata signoff.jpg

YES! I was hoping for this since Lego Lord of the Rings was announced. I can easily think of some possibilities: the return of the massive battle system of Lego Star Wars 3, orc access points, and Ring invisibility like that in Harry Potter.

Read my comedy, about the Hero Factory villains watching a television channel produced by our Spherus Magnan friends!

Another well-done story turned into a world of bricks and stripped of virtually all dialogue. I mean, can the achievements even still be halfway original by this point when the basic mechanics are essentially the same across every title? I suppose it doesn't matter though. Chances are, this one will sell about as well as all the rest.-Ced

The way you say it, it's as if stripping it of dialogue is a bad thing. Personally, I think removing the dialogue adds to the games rather than taking away from them, because they replace the most critical points of dialogue with purely visual (and sometimes very humorous) communication. An example is the "Luke, I Am Your Father" cutscene from LEGO Star Wars II.Some of the trailers for LEGO Batman 2 make it sound like it will have spoken dialogue, and I'm not entirely thrilled. True, there have been great and humorous LEGO games with spoken dialogue (the original LEGO Island comes to mind), but I've always liked media that casts minifigures as nonverbal. As for the play mechanics being the same across all titles, the play mechanics have actually changed from game to game. LEGO Star Wars II, for instance, made it so that not only characters with the force could build. LEGO Indiana Jones allowed you to switch between different tools and weapons. LEGO Batman introduced suits you could switch out that enabled different powers. Even if the changes are slight, the same could be said of a lot of video game series. The Halo games change in some ways from installment to installment, but the typical play experience is never radically altered.

Somehow I thought this was obvious from the moment we knew there was going to be an LotR line of sets. Of course they'd take every opportunity to make some extra dosh. I'm not overly excited myself, I haven't played a Lego game since the very first LEGO Star Wars and Bionicle: Heroes. But I know they certainly look fun and I've always wanted the Harry Potter games. I've a friend who's more excited for the LotR games than I am, but that's mainly because he's a LotR fan and not a single bit of a LEGO fan.

I wrote stories once. They were okay.
