Official BBC Contest #63: You're Fired!

Recommended Posts

Official BBC Contest #63: You're Fired! The theme for this year's Brickfair is fire. You know, that little thing that enabled something called civilization. No big deal. It's a good theme. Very... Bionicle-y.Eleven years and you can still hear the AFOLs cringe.I'm standing by that one, though. Fire was only, what, a key player for years and years? We got swords made out of fire, or at least plastic representations of such. Villages built into volcanoes. Powerful flaming warriors. Fire was big. Yeah, that sounds like a good theme to me.This time around, you're going to build a fire-related MOC that wouldn't be terribly out of place in the Bionicle universe. Please, no canonical characters: let's not have a Tahus' Club thing going. And then, once you've built and entered your MOC, send it to Brickfair! We'll have a diorama of fire MOCs there and it's gonna be sweet. Finalists will be required to send their MOCs, but all eligible entrants are welcome to participate as well. And why might you do this? Besides the standard ovation and fame forever, MOCs sent in to Brickfair will come back with shiny prototypes. Furthermore, for the winner of this contest, we have a matching set of all six Rahkshi (one of them even has a flame-looking staff) graciously donated by Kevin Hinkle.Burn stuff!!!**please do not burn stuff------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Entries begin being accepted as soon as this topic is posted, and will stop being accepted on Sunday, June 17th at 11:59 P.M. EST. We will accept unlimited entries for this contest, so there's no need to rush your entry. To enter, simply post a link to your .jpg or .gif entry picture in this topic. Your entry post in this thread should appear as follows:Entry Name:Entry Pic URL:Topic URL (if applicable):------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A running tally of entrants will be updated daily IN A SEPARATE PINNED TOPIC, which will be posted shortly after the first entries are received.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Voting Process:Preliminary Voting begins June 19th and ends June 22nd at 11:59 P.M. EST.Final Voting begins August 4th and ends August 5th at 11:59 P.M. EST.The contest winner and final voting results will be posted in a separate thread on August 6th------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rules:1) Your entry may not have been published prior to the start of this contest. You may make your own topic before posting in the official entry thread, but you must create a post in the entry topic before it is closed in order to be officially entered. If, after posting your entry anywhere on BZP but before officially entering it (including the blogs), you modify it and then enter it, you will be disqualified. You may only start one topic for your entry. Please post only one main pic in this entry thread and a link to the rest of the pics in the gallery on your image host (most likely Brickshelf, Photobucket, or Flickr). You can do pictures as normal in your own separate thread. If you need help posting pictures, please see this topic.2) Don't PM the contest host unless you have to. Ask questions in this topic and the host or an assistant will answer it.3) Painted parts are NOT ALLOWED. No non-LEGO parts. All other LEGO parts are fair game; however, for the most part, they should be Bionicle pieces and Technic pieces. Let's say, at least 75% of the MOC Bionicle/Technic parts. Pictures in which the appearance of the MOC has been edited in Photoshop or other editing software are also prohibited. If either method is used, the MOC will be disqualified. The background may be edited, as long as it does not alter the appearance of the MOC.4) Only one entry per member. You cannot switch or modify models mid contest. Once you have entered, you may not "un-enter" your models and enter new or modified ones in their stead. You may opt to bow out of the contest for whatever reason but you cannot reenter under such a situation. If you get disqualified for any reason, you will not be allowed to reenter with another MOC in that contest.5) Any flaming will result in disqualification from the contest. Competition is good if you keep it clean. Everyone play fair, NO WHINING, no insults. I reserve the right to DQ any entry at any time for any reason.6) Absolutely, positively NO CHEATING! Anyone found to be cheating or even suspected of cheating will face immediate disqualification from this contest and will be banned from participating in future contests. They will likely also be banned from the site. Mods know this information, so you're not fooling anyone but yourself by thinking you can get away with it. We run a check on people with multiple accounts too, which is an offense that results in banning from BZP entirely, aside from the contest... DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.7) No "this is unfair" posting. Some people have more parts, money, time, fish, gigs left on your hard drive, etc than others. That's life; we each have to do our best with what we have. Any excessive complaining may, at the judgment of the contest runner, disqualify you!8) Discussion is encouraged. Feel free to ask questions about models you see or about the contest in general. This is for us, the BBC builders; let's have some fun with it.9) The contest is open to all BZP members, and voting is open to all BZP members to participate in even if they did not enter an MOC. "Advertising" your MOC is fine by making a signature or avatar reminding people to vote for you, but mass-PMing is frowned upon and will just get you disqualified. Advertising your MOC in someone else's thread is also a major no-no. Spamming may result in proto loss or even post-count reductions, so don't do it.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Prizes:The winner will receive a set of six Rahkshi graciously donated by Kevin Hinkle and TLG. MOCs sent into Brickfair will receive prototype pieces.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Contest Hosts:Tufi PiyufiDeeVeeContest Assistants:McSmeagWell, what are you waiting for? Get building already!
Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes!

Does lava count as fire (at least in name only)?EDIT: Also, could one of the staff members give information on sending things in for Brickfair? It'd be a little difficult for people to mail their stuff in if they don't know how. :P

So it has to be something that could be in the Bionicle universe? Ah, man I wanted to build something from a game which goes perfectly with the theme fire but would incredible out of place in the Bionicle universe :P

I had a signature once

it's gone now

Oh, I am so very, very definitely entering this. But one question. Does bringing the MOC to Brickfair yourself count as sending it in? Because I'll be attending, and mailing in a MOC ahead of time seems unnecessary.

I am sorry but this should have been pronounced before cascade so those who sent it to cascade would have had any chance to reach the final :(

We thought about that, and we knew some people who sent stuff in already might be upset, and that's understandable. But it became a matter of that yes, I volunteered to take stuff with me to Brickfair if it was sent in for Cascade, and 16 packages later I don't know if I could have afforded to take any more. It was kind of a money issue for me. That and the Brickfair theme is fire, the Brickfair display will have the fire diorama, and setting it up at Cascade first would have defeated the purpose.

If you're going to be there yes, you can just bring it. It just has to be at Brickfair.

Lava totally counts. There should be more details soon. We'll let you know then.

Firey and Bionicley. Those are the two major criteria.

Tufi, just noticed something, you messed up the dates. The finals dates I believe should be July 4th and 5th not August, right?~Gravity

No, the finals are taking place in August because voting, as usual, will take place both on BZP and at Brickfair.

Hmm... Just this morning I noticed the HF flame looked like feathers... And now I see this. Definitely entering! Also, what are the rules on digital MOCs this time? There needs to be a standardized BBCC rule regarding that.

This is certainly a pretty hot theme. I'll be looking forward to seeing the firey passion of builders put to the test. And of course it'll be an anxious wait to answer the burning question of who the ultimate winner will be.:3Really do think this is an interesting theme, though, and am looking forward to what comes of it. It'll be one awesome display.~|ET|~

Does this mean no Toa at all, or just no canonical Toa? Like if I was going to make my own Toa instead of Tahu, would it be allowed?

So, although canonical characters are banned, are we allowed to make MOCs that are still of certain species/groups that exist in the storyline (for example, Toa, Skakdi, Xian, etc.)?~B~

I am joining Ballom's question. Are we allowed to build, say, a random Toa of Fire as long as it is not Tahu? This sounds like an awesome contest. The topic title instantaneously gripped my attention. I have a couple of ideas already, now let's see if one of then is executable and whether I can finish my entry in time.-Gata signoff.jpg Edited by Gatanui

I'll join that question as well, I've already made up the basic thing. It looks like Iron Man wearing Tahu Mistika's mask. I was planning it probably to be a Toa, but it's a pretty bulked up one, so it doesn't have to be if it's not allowed for the contest. You'll take entries from outside the US for Brickfair right? No digital MOCs, especially since you can't send those in.

are toa, matoran, and turaga count?

Yes, they are eligible.

Does the fire have to be red/orange?

Yeah. Bionicle doesn't really get very daring with depictions of fire.

If you make the finals and you don't send in your entry, you will be disqualified.Addresses will be released once they've been settled.
