CloudFlare causing trouble

Taka Nuvia

Recommended Posts

Okay, so recently whenever I tried to access BZPower I got a "DNS Error" message from CloudFlare. And as my sis and I tested out today we also get that message whenever one of us is logged in.In other words: if she's logged in, I can't access BZPower and vice versa.Has ayone got an idea how to resolve this? Because it's more than just annoying the way it is right now. =/

Oh wait. NOW I understand why I get that message all the time! It's when my brother and I try to access BZPower at the same time! :D Now it makes sense. Thanks for figuring it out! :)I agree it's annoying. I think the only way to fix this is to uninstall CloudFare or possibly change some CloudFare settings, although Black Six would have to do that.EDIT: Hm, not sure if that's the issue, as I got it again although my brother wasn't logged in (or maybe he simply closed the tab when I checked :P). Anyway, I had to cancel my Internet connection and connect again in order to fix it. This is very annoying.EDIT: I just had to cancel and connect again even though I'm absolutely sure my brother didn't log in to BZPower now. :annoyed:-Gata signoff.png

It probably has to do with the website logging the same IP address for 2 people at the same time. I don't know, though. I do java, not internetz.
Apparently so, but it never used to be a problem in the past. (Apart from creating a new account, but those problems could be solved)Edit: I thought I might also add that those problems only came up after the recent forum upgrade, which was a few days ago (I think) Edited by Taka Nuvia

Link(looks like it works only on one computer at the time, as I'm currently forced to write this from my sister's computer because I keep on getting the error message on mine... despite having cleared cache and cookies. =/)
I can confirm this, it's pretty much the same for me.-Gata signoff.png Edited by Gatanui

The problem with that theory is that whenever the site goes down for a little bit, and comes back up, it still takes a while for it to notice it for me... Started to notice it a couple weeks back or so; I could probably give a more accurate count in a little while. As for the picture, it actually didn't say that for me; it looked like it theoretically should... It just never ended properly. That looks as if something on the site is wrong, unless the CloudFlare stuff just got updated or something.../EDIT: Though... Thinking back, it typically popped up when I switched from my laptop to my computer, though sometimes when I was just on my computer. Likely just unrelated downtimes, though. =P Edited by Pit: Arrow of Light

This is becoing a pain. Right now I can´t visit the front page and before I know it I may not be able to visit the forums either. :/-Gata signoff.png

Wait, front page? The site front page, or forum front page? That's odd, if it's the former, since I was able to view the site front page; but, although I couldn't post, I could still view a google-like archive of the site. That got boring fast, however, since it wasn't up to date.It definitely sounds like everyone's having different problems, but the main problems are from people who use multiple computers a lot.../EDIT: Wait; one question... Are you both using default browser/computer settings, or customized stuff?

The site front page. A few days ago I got a cached version of it but now all I get is the DNS Resolution Error page. The front site seems to work now, though, at least temporarily.-Gata signoff.png Edited by Gatanui

I'm using pretty much default settings. :notsure:
Same here. Especially since the computer I'm using right now is brand new, so I barely had the chance to change any settings except for display settings.-Gata signoff.png Edited by Gatanui

Well... That one's odd... That sounds almost as if there's a problem somewhere with the DNS... Though, why would it only disallow some people? =/

Alright, just wanted to rule add-ons or the like out. =) Are you both using the latest version of Firefox?

Yes, I'm using Firefox 13.0.1. I'm using AdBlock, too.You know, since only Taka and I seem to get these DNS errors, maybe it's some sort of regional issue? Like, maybe it doesn't work for us since she lives in Austria and I live in Germany. I don't know if that makes sense, though. :shrugs:-Gata signoff.png

Taka: Hmm; well, I'm running ABP and NoScript on the latest Firefox, so that's likely not it. Though, I only recall seeing CloudFlare appear on the new computer, which is fully up to date, so I don't know if that's involved or not...Gata: Hmm; the same browsers; but that shouldn't cause these problems...I've considered that too. It might run off the same regional DNS or so; but that doesn't really make sense, no; since there should be reports from other users from the same region...

I don't think there are many members from our region. Still, Berlin and Austria aren't even that close to each other. I doubt we would use the same DNS server.Just got it again, had to fix it by disconnecting and connecting to the Internet again. Front page still doesn't work, though.-Gata signoff.png Edited by Gatanui

Yeah; it's an odd idea, but right now, it's the only currently idea that really makes sense.Hmm, I see...Since you both have Firefox, could you go to the forum index, and open the view source of the page?(They hid it in recent versions, but it's under Developer Tools, view source. Or Ctrl+U for the keyboard shortcut.)

Knew I forgot something... >>'Line 5; Look for something like...

try{if (!window.CloudFlare) { var CloudFlare=[{verbose:0,p:0,byc:0,owlid:"cf",mirage:{responsive:0,lazy:0},oracle:0,paths:

I noticed that part in the view source for me, and it said something like

{cloudflare:"/cdn-cgi/nexp/

or something. I'm mostly just curious about the first part of that; if it says something different for you guys, about the cgi thing. Probably not related, but it might tell us if it's regional...

Hmm. Looks the same to me. Really need to figure out what 'cdn' means in the future; I always think it means Canadian. >>'I don't think you should leave all that up, though, some looks oddly like it's for one person. Dunno what it all means, but that specific part was all I really wanted to check. Looks like my idea of how to identify that was busted. =/ Since I don't see anything in that that would be region-orientated. Which means we're back at the DNS theory...

The way I see it, we'll have to contact CloudFare as I couldn't find anything about this after searching, at least at first glance. Any chance CloudFare could be disabled until this is resolved, though?-Gata signoff.png

If this is a regional error then I might have experienced the same problem while in Canada when I could only access a cached version of the forums. This happened about 6 days ago.
I got that, too, and I'm pretty sure this is an entirely different issue. There aren't even any cached versions that appear for me, contrary to then.-Gata signoff.png

I had that error a few days ago. I use Google Chrome with too many extensions to count. I live in the US. Refreshing obsessively, waiting an hour or 2, then refreshing obsessively again did the trick, if I remember correctly.

Curious about what it does or whether it's there? What it does is it checks to make sure there's no error, then checks to see if the CloudFlare variable is false. It then does incomprehensible things. I have no idea what the next part is, other than that the var CloudFlare is an array...

Curious about if the 'cdn-cgi' thing was there for all; but B6 explained what that was all about.Speaking of which, thanks for explaining that, Black Six; I've been wondering what that meant for a little while. Goes to show, even the person around computers every day can learn new things every day. =)

Yes, on July 6th BZPower had an outage, but that was a server issue, not CloudFlare.I'm looking into this guys and appreciate your patience and understanding.Got some information from CloudFlare. We need some more help from you guys:
Thanks for that screenshot. It indicates a potential problem in our Frankfurt datacenter, although looking into the logs I don't see any errors for your domain that stand out. Please have another affected user provide us a screenshot of the error page or a traceroute to your domain so we can see if this problem is limited to Frankfurt.
Thanks everyone!

You actually don't need to ask for them from your users. I discovered a node in our Frankfurt datacenter that failed to receive the zone file for your domain. We will need to fail the datacenter out and reboot that machine to get things back online. I suggest pausing CloudFlare for now so that users in Frankfurt don't experience errors. I apologize for the inconvenience. We should have the node repaired within 24 hours.
Problem solved.Thread closed.
