bohrokmaster
I have a question about the island of Mata Nui. When the Mata Nui Robot crash landed on Aqua Magna, the story says he accidently triggers his camoulflage system by using leaked and energised protodermis. Did the leaked silver liquid flourised onto his face and became an Island?
xccj
(Somebody else will probably answer this in more detail, but here's my attempt.)So, apparently, Mata Nui liked to hang out on other planets and disguise himself. As such, his camouflage system is designed to make his face appear to be a rocky island, so inhabitants of the world he's checking up on won't recognize it as a giant robot. But clearly the island of Mata Nui wasn't like that at all, since it had all sorts of plants on it. So this was explained through a protodermis leak, which caused rapid plant growth, so the island quickly grew a luscious jungle within a matter of hours or something, instead of it taking years to grow.So the camouflage system was responsible for the excess rock that made it look like an island, and the energized protodermis was responsible for all the plant life. (The animals apparently all migrated out from Metru Nui, as did the Matoran / Toa Metru.) The process is also partially explained on BS01. Hope this helped clarify things. Instead of having a big robot face popping out, an island would be created to disguise him from the planet inhabitants.Essentially, the way this system worked is that tubes of energized protodermis would have a controlled release when Mata Nui willed it, causing an island to grow on Mata Nui's face. This island would be rocky and barren, but since Mata Nui might stay on a planet for centuries, or millennia, the island would naturally grow a decent deal of plant life growth over its large surface, similar to how an abandoned parking lot would have lots of weeds growing in it. When Mata Nui needed to leave the planet, the Bohrok would destroy the overgrowth rather quickly, returning it to a barren, rocky island (ie. how the island looked 'in the before time', as the Bahrag put it). Aside from a few surface items (Kini-Nui and the beach telescope, for instance), the entire island would then be destroyed upon Mata Nui's departure from the planet. This cycle of island creation and destruction was repeated countless times over 100,000 years, working pretty much exactly as planned each time. However, around year 100,000, the virus that put Mata Nui to sleep caused him to crash land into Aqua Magna - this massive impact caused a malfunction in the camouflage system. Instead of leaking small amounts of energized protodermis as it was designed to, the pipes had some sort of burst or major leak, causing massive amounts of energized protodermis to rush to the face of the Mata Nui robot. Instead of creating a barren, rocky island, it caused the island to almost immediately develop into six elementally-themed areas - vastly more than any other growth that had occurred. This explains why the Bohrok had such a hard time returning the island to its original state. So to sum it up - the camouflage system, consisting of pipes of energized protodermis designed to leak to the surface and create a barren island, worked fine for 100,000 years, but malfunctioned after Mata Nui went comatose and crashed into a planet. The pipes leaked or burst, causing immediate overgrowth and resulting in what we knew as the island of Mata Nui. -TN05 Edited September 28, 2012 by Toa Nidhiki05
