Makuta Gets Punched In The Face

I would like to share my latest creation, which depicts an epic clash of light and shadow (one that leaves Teridax with a bruised chin!). I recently made this moc and I am quite proud of it. C&C welcome! Also, I apologize in advance for my lack of photography skills.

UPDATE: After taking into consideration feedback I have recieved and also rewatching MoL, I have made a few modifications to my original designs, as well as uploaded images of Takutanuva and alternate forms of Takanuva. If this topic gets plenty of views and comments, I might just put together a Shadow Takanuva at some point.Light punch to the face!:http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/lupa/LightvsShadow/2012-11-24_17.24.15.jpgAngle 2:http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/lupa/LightvsShadow/2012-11-24_17.29.50.jpgAngle 3:http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/lupa/LightvsShadow/2012-11-24_17.33.37.jpgAngle 4:http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/lupa/LightvsShadow/2012-11-24_17.35.24.jpgTakanuva, Toa of Light:http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/lupa/LightvsShadow/2012-11-25_14.06.57.jpgAction Pose:http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/lupa/LightvsShadow/2012-11-24_17.57.11.jpg

I've seen a lot of MOCs with Takanuva and Makuta battling, but this seems pretty original. I like the revamp you gave both characters; they retain their original form while gaining the intricacies of newer parts.Makuta seems very evil, solid, and bulky. I'd rethink that Knight's Kingdom armor on the chest, though, as it throws off what's otherwise a decent color layering. Gunmetal-on-red and black-on-red go well together, but the color of the KK armor throws the whole shebang for a loop. Also, the wings look a little peaked, especially around the joints, but that's minor. (Personally, I find him more imposing when he's wingless, and that also matches his canon form during MoL.)Takanuva could stand to have a few more improvements. Using black as a secondary color for the lower legs would be okay if it's used as the secondary color elsewhere as well. Your use of dark gray is aesthetically pleasing, but it would be more consistent if it was all one color or another.I'm not a big fan of Takanuva's arms, mainly because they're pre-bent. From my experience, using pre-bent joints in larger MOCs only makes the MOC good from about two angles, max. If you re-do the arms, you might want to clean up the torso as well. I can't see how it's constructed - and it doesn't look bad, per se - but it seems kind of awkward. If you had any more pictures that show how it's constructed, I might be able to provide some more precise tips for its improvement.Overall, though, excellent job!

I'm quite enjoying this redesign of Makuta! My favorite bits are the backward knees, I always figured they'd be perfect for the character. His scythe is really impressive too, I'd tried to make one for my Teridax but was never able to make one that looked convincing. The way you've matched it up with his armor colour scheme really helps. But if I could suggest a few things, I'd agree with Sumiki about the Knight's Kingdom armour piece on the chest. It really breaks the scheme up, and draws attention away from the detail you've worked into the build. And just another little touch-up might be on the gray pieces on his wings: I'd think about maybe using more black to match the amounts of that colour used on the legs. Maybe a few spots of black on the torso would help balance that out too.But again, these are just a few little thoughts. The model is already very impressive as is!

I have always wanted to do a Takanuva revamp, but haven't really had the time and parts. You pulled it off real well! Makuta is fantastic as well, but the color of the Knight's Kingdom armor is clashy. It would look good in dark silver/gunmetal if you are okay with painting parts. The use of the part is great though. Nice job on the whole thing!

Actually, that part came in a dark metallic color anyway, painting wouldn't be necessary. :lol:Anyway, Teridax looks excellent (save for the clashing chestplate) and Takanuva is alright as well, but I'm not a fan of the unbending arms like Sumiki said.

Thanks for the comments! I understand and agree about the KK armor piece. I love how it looks on him but I wish I had one of those pieces in gunmetal. I am not a big fan of the unbending arms myself but I wanted to keep some of the look and pieces of the original sets. The Takanuva revamp actually started out as a revamp of the 2010 Takanuva which used those pieces as both his arms and legs and it reminded me of the original arms and legs of Takanuva. I like the design of the pieces but I wish they could bend. I also liked that they gave him accurate limb proportions in my revamp. I am especially proud of Makuta's leg design. I had a sort of epiphany while I was lying in bed and the next morning I decided to try it out. I wanted incorporate them into a full moc. They had a certain demon look that I thought would be fitting for the Master of Shadows. I also wish that I had his wings in a black and red as well. I was also experimenting with incorporating HF pieces with Bionicle parts.

Very good! This is what I call a good mixture of BIONICLE and HF parts. At first I didn't understand how did you build the punch, but then I got it: it's one of the best parts, really simple yet effective. The color scheme... well, it's the standard for Teridax and Takanuva, but, since those are my favorite colors, I like this a lot!

The Kolhii staves are a cool addition, nice work with them. Teridax's feet are fantastic as well. Even if, as I said, the color scheme is generally good, it doesn't however always fit very well, but I see someone else has noted this, so I won't complain, I suppose you already know what to do.

An overall awesome MOC, with minor flaws. Two of the best revamps I've ever seen!
