The first option is that this rash of thefts are going after specific items that, linked together, can be used to build another item, and that is what the scientist guy wants. So, obviously, rather than just accepting the thefts, the Turaga would want to be looking at specific points regarding how they are linked.
I'm assuming the Department of Security would already have reviewed the crimes and reported to the Turaga their findings.
The second option is that the thief isn't using the Vahi, because why on earth would he be going after petty theft when he has all of time and space at his disposal?
If the thieves weren't using the Vahi, how then could they escape every crime scene undetected?
Going along with the second option, you could also assume he's using someone else as a diversion from his true plan.
That's possible.

Just because someone has a clean background does not mean he has zero chance of committing a crime in the future.

Psych eval? Then again, anyone working with the Vahi would have to be pretty crazy in the first place.
Considering even "normal" people can become tempted once power is near to their control, I don't think a psychological evaluation would have caught any abnormalities in his brain.

I'm assuming the Department of Security would already have reviewed the crimes and reported to the Turaga their findings.

Then they should be able to answer the question I asked.

If the thieves weren't using the Vahi, how then could they escape every crime scene undetected?

Another Olmak. Consider - we've already accepted there is an Olmak present, despite the fact that both of the ones in canon have been destroyed. Why not assume there is a fourth? Or a fifth? More? Spherus Magna is a big place, and hasn't been fully explored if I read the opening post correctly. There could be any number of strange events occurring.

Or perhaps they're using a Mask of Intangibility, and then floating in and out like a ghost. That is hardly a stretch of the imagination.

Considering even "normal" people can become tempted once power is near to their control, I don't think a psychological evaluation would have caught any abnormalities in his brain.

Perhaps, perhaps not. When the ability to use telepathy and say, "Hey, he plans on stealing the Vahi today!" is present in the equation, it makes that a bit harder. Sure, we can just say the entire team was given mental shielding so nobody would find out about what was happening... but then, nobody had any idea what was happening, so there would be no reason to take a couple years time to train the group for mental protection if nobody knew there was something to protect inside them.

Unless, of course, the Turaga are incredibly genre savvy and it turns out that the plot is going to run off of heavy levels of deus ex machina, and they specifically had that done just in case the RPG was set about three months before present time and a player Ce-Toa happened to grab one of the scientists and extract information from their brain in order to advance the plot.

For now, I'm going to assume that statement is untrue, and the Deus Ex Machina amount isn't overloading the system.

Aha, gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. So we're thinking the same thing but at different detail levels.

I can roll with that :P

Lev?There are multiple flaws with those thoughts. Do you run an extensive background check and pych eval on a group of scientists? No? Then why would they have done it with these guys? Second, when the Vahi is stolen and criminals vanish in such a close amount of time, I'd think there was a correlation too.But at the end of the day, the plot is what it is, and asking questions about time before the RPG that have no actual consequence is just pointless.

An announcement: Please welcome Krayzikk to our list of staff! No, it's not because of his post above mine -- I gave him the chance to join Loophole's staff a while ago -- but because we needed help to run the plot that I'm currently trying to kickstart. Edited by Legolover-361

Yes, we're going to need all the help we can get with this plot. And that includes regular players.

Oooo I just can't wait. :3

Me either!

*grabs plothole cannon*

*sickening sound of whining, like something large charging up*

I perfected this little sucker while working in the Bzprpg; will work a number on a plot if used correctly. It has two settings: Buckshot for when you need swiss-cheese style holes, for those times when a lot of little things need to go wrong, or Megatron when you just need a hole the size of truck to roll on through.

:lookaround:

I kid, I kid.

BTW, Krayzikk: congratulations. Well done. Look forward to seeing you more in action. I also look forward to see how this plot is actually going down. There are so many possibilities at this point, not including messing with the space-time continuum with the Vahi.

Should be exciting!

I was expecting Krayzikk to get put on staff since the very beginning, so this does not surprise me.

@ Krayzikk -

Do I run a test... uh... why wouldn't I? They're working with the most dangerous item on the entire planet, and if they make one mistake with the mask, they could potentially cause apocalyptic levels of disaster. The government doesn't just grab some guy off the street when they work on nuclear weapons, and the Vahi is far more dangerous than one of those.

So, Vahi stolen, criminals vanish, same period of time. You should always be ready to assume a correlation, but you shouldn't jump to the conclusion that two things happening at the same time means there's a link. If your government ran with those kinds of immediate assumption, I would hate to know their foreign policy.

As I said - whatever moves the plot forward moves the plot forward, and most of these gripes are minor ones. But I'm not the type of person to just take things at face value.

The only thing I want to know is a logical reason to take out the Kanohi Olmak and put a team of scientists on trying to figure out what it does when there are lots of other options and avenues that can be pursued. The Turaga Nuva keep going, "What other choice do we have?", but they don't seem to be putting any thought into looking for them. Or how their chosen avenue is going to help them.

Best thing to do would be install cameras everywhere in the city and monitor everything to pick up even the slightest change. But if that happened I'd have to rally the NPCs together and rebel against the overtly oppressive government, and after the little incident called 'Makuta taking over the universe' some three hundred years back, I'm pretty sure most people would be on my side.

@ Gravity -

I never said they stole an Olmak, I said that it was a possible way the thief is getting in and out (though the Mask of Intangibility, as I said, is a far more likely scenario). The fact is, in a world where you assume that a thief is using a legendary mask with ultimate power over time, you might as well look at all possibilities. Canonically, there were two Olmaks, and they're both gone. There's a third one here, so why would it be hard to believe there is a fourth?

Also, to answer your question - because the Olmak is much safer, and it's pretty easy to figure out what it does. One is a legendary artifact, the other is a normal albeit powerful Great mask.

Lev, here's the things with RPG plots. Sometimes you have to take things at face value for a while. Just because something happens in the backstory, or it didn't happen on screen, doesn't mean it didn't happen. On a more cheerful note, thanks guys.

Willing suspension of disbelief is something I'm able to exercise simply for the fact that a Bionicle RPG wouldn't be enjoyable without it, but it'd be easier for me if I believed the reactions of the characters.

It's the same reason I had 90% of the 'romances' I've seen on this forum, because they're not very believable with poorly done character development. I think too many people watch the movie Titanic.

Certainly.

Not a lot has happened as of yet, but the plot is beginning to kick into gear. A vehicular chase near the start of the game prompted a law enforcement investigation. Time travel troubles have begun, and one specific mechanic has gained access to the schematics for a working time machine. The Turaga are contemplating using the Olmak. Most of the stuff relevant to the plot stuff should be occurring on the last page, and the one before it.Hope that helps.

Thanks, I will start working on my profiles and will read the last two pages. Just out of curiosity, how many characters can you have? Most of my RPG experience comes from the LEGO RPG subforum, (It has three RPGs, one of which is mine, and they all could use more players) where you can only have one main character.

I used to have a banner here.

But that RPG is dead.

Six, I want to say. Or five. Same thing. Always leave a little space open at first, though. You never know when a new character idea will strike...

Welcome!

Yes, Levacius is correct, you are allowed a maximum of six characters, with up to four NPC characters that tag along.

Name: Toruk

Gender: Male

Species: Vo-Skakdi

Kanohi: Powerless Kadin

He was put into stasis and only got freed when the Mata Nui robot was destroyed. He called himself the experiment number he was: 1134. He used his natural Energy Hound abilities to become a detective.

Name: Trunai

Species: Matoran of the Green

Kanohi: Noble Miru

Occupation: Casino Employee

Personality: Scared, nice, somewhat kind

History: Trunai has lived in Ga-Koro Nui for as long as he can remember. He works in one of the most successful casinos and runs a card game. He is fairly successful, and is very worried about these ‘Suspect less crimes’.

All fine, except for Toruk. Skakdi can't wear masks.

Can wear masks; lack the mental discipline to use the powers. ;)

So, open question - is the plot just going to suddenly show up out of nowhere, or do we need to do something? We didn't get very many plot hooks at the beginning, so I've just been kind of waiting for the Vahi guy to appear or something, but I'll go out and do a bunch of chaotic/crazy stuff to flush it out if I have to.

does anybody know what time it is in Ga-Koro-Nui? when i say that, I mean is noon, dusk, etc.

War...war never changes.

We crawl, on our knees for you,
under, a sky no longer blue,
we sweat, all day long for you.

But we sow, seeds to see us though,
cause sometimes dreams just don't come true,
we wait, to reap what we are due.

Whatever you want it to be. There's no set time for this RPG at the moment, some people may be describing scenes a few hours before or after what the post above them was describing.

Just as long as people aren't days apart, it's generally okay for you to set the time of your posts.

I would like to make clear something some of you may not have realized since my latest post:You are now allowed to create profiles for thief characters and / or kidnapping victims. I'm normally pretty good with the technical descriptions, (I have to be. I watch Stargate) but Friar Tucks explanation of time travel just sent my head spinning.

Oh. Good. That's why I left a character slot open.

That and in case I needed to make a demon or something later because I got ticked off. Wait, scratch that... I don't need a demon. Just an Agori with a piece of C4 and the only thing stopping me from world domination is some Deus Ex Machina nonsense.

Hmm... with perpetual closed, I really want to use Albenidal, but that backstory wouldn't fit in this RPG. Thematically incorrect too. Hmm, who to add... oh, how about a new character?

Eh, I'll think of something later.

Been waiting a while for BZP Blade to reply as Kranos, and its sort of holding up the merry band of Skralls. Can we say he got beat and move on?
Yeah; I'm sorry, been trying to think of a good way to reply with exactly that. There's no way to avoid the attack, so go ahead and end him. =PBut yeah, apologies for that, I guess I just didn't manage my time properly again. =/

Still working on my new character. I'm gonna try something different.

A Toa of Ice.

Never done that before.

And I'm not being sarcastic, I literally can't ever remember doing that. It's a record.
