This is an old idea I had that ran for about a year until the Forums crashed. I took some time off to put a little more thought into it, and now I think it’s time to give it another shot!

Game Over. Come back to the Games & Trivia Forum on June 22nd for the reboot, Technic Warzone!

Master Post

Feedback? Suggestions? Post them here, please!

Tips from the players!

Basics: In this game you will choose from a list of Bionicle, Slizer, RoboRider, and Hero Factory characters and sponsor your character of choice in a fighting league. You’ll pay for their training, buy equipment for them, arrange matches with other fighters for them, and enter them into tournaments to win the real prizes. To start you will be given 50,000 Widgets for training and equipment. If you want, you can make a logo to be displayed in the main post next to your fighter.

At any time you can drop your fighter to sponsor another, and you can also arrange trades with other players. If a simple trade of fighters is not enough, you can add in equipment or pay for a certain number of training sessions—cash can only be used if the player specifically asks for it. (This is frowned upon—you will generally be suspended from certain activities for a period of time, be it training for a month or matches for a week.) You can negotiate over PM and then post in the topic once everything’s been decided upon, and I’ll edit the first post with the necessary adjustments. If you want to trade with a player who has been offline for an extended period of time, I will arrange a suitable deal and inform both players. If, when the offline player returns, they do not approve, then the deal with be reversed immediately (unless the fighter is currently in a match/tournament, in which case it will have to wait until they are done). Fighters will keep the benefits of any training you paid for and, generally, all equipment purchased for them, but if you want to negotiate to take some of the equipment with you, contact me.

Players can sponsor two fighters, and will receive an extra 30,000 W to prepare their second fighter. Items can be shared among fighters, although if you have both of your fighters in a 2v2 this will not be the case. Also, each sponsor may also enter one fighter into tournaments. A week before each tournament I will post a reminder: contact me via PM to tell me which fighter you want to enter into the tournament. If I do not receive a PM from you, neither fighter will be entered into the tournament.

Players can now sponsor up to three fighters. If, when taking on a third fighter, you have at least one fighter at Class D or above (see below), you will not receive any Widgets. All other players will receive an additional 10,000 W.

Matches: The primary method of gameplay is arranging matches with other players—just PM another member to ask for a fight, negotiate how many Widgets each fighter will pay to promote the match, and then post here to let me know.

When your fighter starts a match, both you and the opponent’s sponsor will post a paragraph explaining how the fighter will act in this match and why you think your fighter should win. I will review these paragraphs and post when I decide the results of the match. In a normal match, the winner will receive a sum of money.

For fairness, it is recommended that you use spoiler tags for your strategy and do not look at your opponent’s strategy. Spoiler tag help.

You can also arrange 2-on-2 matches. (Credit to Dual Matrix) I highly recommend you co-ordinate your strategy with your partner, and then you can either post your part of the strategy seperately or have one player post the complete strategy. Since these matches take longer to analyze, there will likely be a significant delay between when the strategies are posted and when the winners are announced.

Tournaments: Registration will open one week before the tournament begins; players must post or PM me stating they want to enter their fighter. If a player is sponsoring two fighters, they must state which fighter they want to enter. When the match-ups are announced, players will have 24 hours to post a strategy for their fight before the round ends.

If there is an uneven number of sponsored fighters, the fighter who ends up without an opponent will automatically advance. If a sponsor does not post their strategy before the round ends, they automatically lose.

When you enter, you must post a profile for your character: you may freely arrange their stats in any way you wish, but they may not exceed a total of 48 stat points. You must also provide a list of no more than five of the Items you own, and during the tournament you may only use the items on that list.

When a fighter loses in a tournament, they will gain Widgets based on how many rounds they participated in (the lower their Class, the more Widgets). The winner of each Class Bracket will be able to hire four level 1 trainers (or one level 5 trainer) for free and purchase one free item. The profile for the winner will also be updated, with “Tournament n Champion” listed next to their name. If a fighter wins two tournaments in a row they will have to sit out the next tournament.

Items that cannot be purchased for free by a Champion: Rahkshi Staffs of Gravity, Electricity, Sonics, Plasma, Plant Life, Magnetism, Mind Reading, or Silence; Spear of Fusion; Zamor Sphere

Mentor Program: Having a little bad luck? Would you like to get some advice from the Coliseum’s top-ranked players? (Credit to Canis, Vox, Keizah, and Dual)

You can PM one of the Mentors listed below and ask them to take part in a Training Match with you. Mentors will need to contribute a small amount of Widgets, but the apprentice will not need to contribute anything—just post a strategy for the fight, and the Mentor will review your strategy and provide you with some suggestions on how to proceed. Training Match strategies do not need to be put in spoiler tags. Limited use items can be used without subtracting from their use count.

KEEP IN MIND: MENTORS ARE NOT INFALLIBLE. While they will provide useful tips, you do not have to rigidly follow their prescription. There is no one formula to ascending the ranks in the Coliseum.

Current Mentors: Canis Lupus, Keizah the Kaleidoscope, Vox the Shadow of Reality, Dual Matrix, Zakaro, Pulsate, Phoenixian Wraith

Emergency Fund: This is where all the money from those Training Matches go. (Credit to Dual, Canis, Keizah, and Vox)

When a Training Match takes place, the Widgets contributed by the Mentor will be plugged into the same formula for determining the prize money of a normal fight. Rather than being awarded to the Mentor, however, this money is added to the Coliseum’s Emergency Fund.

Current Emergency Fund: 41,000 W

If you have less than 1,000 W, you can apply to receive 1,000 W from the Emergency Fund. In order to approve the application, you will post a strategy against a “training dummy,” Pahrak Va #0579 (see below). These strategies do not need to be put in spoiler tags. I will then evaluate your strategy and determine if your application will be approved or not. Mentors may also comment on your strategy and offer advice. Limited use items can be used without subtracting from their use count. You may choose an arena if you wish.

Pahrak Va #0579 can shoot non-Elemental energy bolts and will not use items except for his basic Stone Hammer weapon. His stats will be exactly identical to the stats of your fighter, so you must rely on strategy rather than stat advantage.

Arenas: Credit to Ninja. When contacting another player to arrange a match, you can also decide what arena you want your characters to fight in. Feel free to suggest arenas either through post or PM.

Non-Specific Arenas:

-Coliseum Arena: The default arena, automatically used if no arena is specified. A simple, wide-open space with solid floors and walls. Always used in tournaments unless otherwise noted.

-BZPower Forums: You’ll start on the Index, but by no means does the fight have to stay there! Using the available warps you can jump to any Forum and hide in a crowd of members, opening topics to spill their contents in an avalanche of spam that may disrupt your opponent. If you clutter the Forums with too much spam or badly hurt too many members, Hapori Tohu will blast you with laser vision, so be wary!

-Seismic Showdown: A circular pit webbed with faults and tectonic masses that shift constantly, providing earthquakes of varying scales, geysers and magma explosions that sometimes occur on the borders. Ash and dust lightly rain down on the battlefield, but can collect into clouds and storms, sometimes blinding the duelists. When eruptions occur, flaming embers spew from the underworld, becoming hazardous to the surrounding area. There are small ponds and lakes that plume with steam from the heat, both from the pounding sun and the lava beneath. (Credit to Bulik)

Slizer Arenas:

-Storm Sector: A sector of the Slizer planet blanketed by a constant thunderstorm.

-Glacial Sector: A sector of the Slizer planet covered in snow and ice.

-Slizer Dome: Home of the Judge/Jet Slizer, at the north pole of the Slizer planet. Battles take place atop a tall building that you definitely don’t want to fall off of. Several computer terminals line the arena, and if you can find a working one you can program the tower’s defenses to treat the opponent as hostile…until the terminal runs out of power, of course.(Credit to Ninja)

RoboRiders Arenas:

-City-Realm: A RoboRider realm filled with dilapidated skyscrapers, abandoned highways, and swinging wrecking balls.

-Rock-Realm: A RoboRider realm made up of uneven terrain and plenty of rock formations to climb and hide behind.

-Swamp-Realm: Home of the Swamp RoboRider, in this cramped forest there are many vines hanging around and murky waters. There are also tales of a creature lurking in the mud, but those are just rumors…right? [spoiler alert: they're not] (Credit to Ninja)

-Core Matrix: The heart of the RoboRider world, a large, brightly-lit space with featureless floors and walls. Beware: traces of The Virus remain in the form of three-clawed tendrils that will sprout and attack you!

-Ice Realm: Similar to the Glacial sector, the Ice Realm is covered with ice and snow. Frequent blizzards batter the realm making visibility hard to see. (Credit to Snake)

Bionicle Arenas:

-Naho Bay: A body of water on Mata-Nui. If fighters fall off the lily pads, they will plunge into the water where Tarakavas and Takea sharks wait.

-Stalactite Village: The top of a stalactite planted in the ground of Karda Nui. You can hop to another nearby stalactite, but don’t fall—it’s a long way down.

-Charred Forest: A dark arena filled with dead trees. Not all of the Matoran traps have been disabled, and though they may not be able to hold you for long, they can cost you a crucial second. (Credit to Flaredrick)

-Atero Arena: Similar to the Coliseum Arena, but covered in sand and many pieces of jagged metal- old armor. You can use the metal to fight, potentially. (Credit to Ninja)

-Mangai Volcano: A platform of molten rock is suspended inside the volcano, which will erupt periodically. When it does, we recommend hiding in the tunnels within the walls of the volcano until the platform recreates itself. (Credit to Worldsoul)

-Mangaia: Makuta Teridax’s most well-known lair, a place of perpetual darkness. Manas can be heard scuttling around in the shadows, and the only light comes from the pools of Energized Protodermis in the center. If you fall in, you’ll slowly be burned alive, so I wouldn’t recommend trying to transform. You can hide behind some pillars, but if the foe destroys them they may unleash a Rahkshi.

-Mahri Nui: The match starts out in an air bubble in the sea below Voya Nui, but too much fighting will cause the bubble to pop, letting in the Pit Mutagen to turn you into water-breathers (but that’s the only effect). Being underwater weakens all attacks based off the Mind Stat, even if they wouldn't be weakened in real life. Fighters can swim, jump, and make use of the fact that they are underwater, raising their agility. (Credit to Canis)

-Iron Canyon: A canyon on Bara Magna with sheer rock walls. Rock falls can be triggered, a Skopio sleeps beneath the sand, and we have reports of Bone Hunters roaming in every now and again. (Credit to Vox)

-The Zone of Darkness: A pocket-dimension completely devoid of light, lacking all features besides a flat stone floor and occasional patches of Visorak webbing. Fighters must tread carefully and rely on their senses. The Kahgarak come and go, and they may be attracted to the sounds of a fight. Combatants are free to use their powers to produce light, but be careful not to draw the attention of the Zivon. (Credit to Keizah)

Hero Factory Arenas:

-Tanker Station 22: A Hero Factory fuel station in poor repair. Jets of flame and steam may erupt without warning, and shooting the fuel pods lying around will have explosive results.

-Quatros: A lush jungle planet populated by a variety of dangerous creatures.

-The Valiant: This Hero Factory ship has been infected by the brains! Due to it being in space, gravity is lower and it is cold, but watch out for the tubes- if you break them, you've unleashed a Brain and the fight gets a bit more complex for both sides! (Credit to Ninja)

-Training Sphere: This round battle ground is a giant sphere, able to resemble other arenas that you can use to your benifit. That is, if you find the controls first. Each fighter may change the arena the Sphere resembles once. Be wary of the HeroBall when a match begins, the arena splits in half and you've got to keep it in the air. Whichever side it hits the ground on is in for a nasty surprise, the likes of which depends upon the arena the Sphere is copying. (Credit to Zakaro)

-Hero Factory Villain Containment: This large, open area may not seem much at first, but that's only if you don't take into account the many cells lining the walls stacked on top of each other. Fighters will have to be careful to not damage the place too much, or villains will be roaming the arena as well, the amount depending on how much damage has been done to the cells in general. In addition, in the centre of the northern wall is Von Nebula's black hole staff. Be careful, fighting around it too much might unleash all of the villains, creating instant chaos for all fighters in the arena! An unfortunate fighter that gets too close during this might even get sucked into a black hole temporarily, where gravity is much lower than normal.

-Tansari VI: A power plant filled with electric generators. Fog obscures the arena, and lightning will strike randomly. (Credit to Flaredrick)

-Antropolis City: Each fighter will begin in a Battle Machine (you may pick any of the canon machines from the winter wave (summer wave will be allowed at a later date)). While inside the Battle Machine, a fighter cannot use any of his/her own abilities and must rely on those of the mech. Battle Machines can be broken or the fighter may eject. After a short period of time, several kaiju will erupt from the ground to attack the fighters, making things more complicated.

Fighter Specific Rules: Some fighters or groups of fighters have rules specifically made for them.

Element-Users: Nova Blasts are forbidden

Light-Users: Light can be used to increase your fighter's speed, but not all the way up to light speed. Your fighter may only blind the opponent once per battle. Your fighter may only use one solid light hologram per battle.

Gravity-Users: No attack can be instant-win (such as erasing gravity and flinging target into space, or increasing gravity so much that they are crushed to death). Each attack can only be used for a few seconds at a time, and the fighter must leave time between each gravity attack (the longer you manipulate gravity, the longer you have to wait before you can manipulate it again).

Psionics-Users: Only basic illusions can be used, and you may only use one per battle. You can confuse the opponent once per battle and are forbidden from using mind control. Telepathy can be used to sense a hidden opponent’s location but will leave you vulnerable, and masking your presence will only have limited success. Telekinesis may only be used for simple attacks like throwing the target or other objects, and may not disarm the opponent unless you throw another object and knock their weapon from their hands. You may only hold the opponent in a telekinetic grip for a few seconds.

Magnetism-Users: No attacks can be instant-win (such as willing an opponent’s armor to crush them to death). Each attack can only last for a few seconds (you cannot hold an opponent in place indefinitely), and you must leave time between each magnetism attack (the longer you use magnetism, the longer you have to wait before you can use it again). Magnetism can be used to achieve flight, but this method of flight is very difficult to control.

Iron-Users: No attacks can be instant-win (such as willing an opponent’s armor to crush them to death). Each attack targeting the opponent or their items/armor can only last for a few seconds (you cannot hold an opponent in place indefinitely), and you must leave time between each non-projectile Iron attack (the longer you use Iron manipulation, the longer you have to wait before you can use it again). You may not destroy any of the opponent’s items or pull their items out of their hands. You may create armor, walls, weapons, etc out of Iron, but you will be more vulnerable while creating them, they cannot be made of Protosteel, and they will only be temporary.

Trainers: You can hire a trainer to raise one of your fighter’s stat values. Some trainers raise stats by more points, but they in turn cost more money.

Strength Trainer: raise a fighter’s strength +1 (3,000 W), +3 (8,000 W), or +5 (13,000 W)

Agility Trainer: raise a fighter’s agility +1 (3,000 W), +3 (8,000 W), or +5 (13,000 W)

Toughness Trainer: raise a fighter’s toughness +1 (3,000 W), +3 (8,000 W), or +5 (13,000 W)

Mind Trainer: raise a fighter’s mind +1 (3,000 W), +3 (8,000 W), or +5 (13,000 W)

Strength affects the power of a fighter’s physical attacks, agility represents a fighter’s speed and maneuverability, toughness affects a fighter’s endurance and resistance to damage, and mind affects the strength of a fighter’s special powers.

Upgrades: Some fighters can be upgraded, affecting their stats, powers, and what items they can use.

MoC Mocha: a Pahrak Family signature blend, infused with diluted mutagens that will allow your fighter to slightly alter their form (accompanying waiver must be signed before you will be served); 15,000 W

Legacy Gateway: Sends a Glatorian through time to train under Champions and become a Master Glatorian, adds 1 stat point to all stats, once per tournament can receive one bonus stat point with the purchase of a stat trainer (the sponsor must state when they wish for this to take effect), allows the Glatorian to take a Thornax Launcher into battle without it counting against the item limit; for Glatorian; 30,000 W

Antidermis Infusion: Imbues a fighter with the essence of a Makuta, adds 1 stat point to all stats, once per tournament can receive a bonus stat point with the purchase of a stat trainer (the sponsor must state when they wish for this to take effect), allows the fighter to use the power of a Rahkshi Staff they own in battle without using up an item slot (the Staff itself will not be included) (you must pay 3,000 W to make a Rahkshi Staff compatible with this ability); for Skakdi and Barraki; 30,000 W.

Hordika Venom: Due to the mutative, animalistic qualities of this Venom, fighters are now easier to train in Strength, Toughness, and Agility. Mind, however, becomes much harder and thus costs more. (-1000W for +1, -2000W for +3, -3000W for +5 in Strength, Agility, and Toughness. +1000W for +1, +2000W for +3, +3000W for +5 in Mind. Fighters can gain small, animalistic abilities when effected.) 30,000 W (Credit to Zakaro)

Keetongu’s Cure: ends the effects of Hordika Venom; 20,000 W

Shadow Leech: Full Drain-change a fighter's Element to Shadow, 10,000 W; Partial Drain-gain Shadow powers in addition to current Element, both Elements will be reduced in power, you may not use Elemental Rahkshi Staffs while this upgrade is in effect, 30,000 W

Klakk's Scream: undoes a Shadow Leech; 5,000 W

(More on Weapon Reforge: Most characters have clear Elemental affinities, but for those that don't the sponsor will be allowed to choose the Element (though nothing like Time or Life). The sponsor may also choose the form and name of the Reforged Weapon.)

Equipment: Items you buy for your fighters to use in combat.

Fighters may only take 2 pieces of equipment into battle with them (in addition to their basic/Reforged weapon). Slizers can take a Disk plus 2 other items, and RoboRiders can take a Wheel Talisman plus two other items.

Also, you may return items you are no longer using to receive half of the price you paid for them. When returning a Kanohi to purchase the same Kanohi Nuva, you will receive a discount and only need to pay 2,000 W. Used Disks and Wheel Talisman may not be returned.

One question: does the Nuva variant of a Kanohi have any special properties that separates it from the normal (Mata) version, or is it just there to set you back a couple of Widgets since Toa Nuva can't use Mata-Kanohis anymore?

Kanohi Nuva don't have any special powers, no--it's more of a drawback to try to balance out the Toa Nuva.

Welcome to the Coliseum! You have 50,000 Widgets to prepare Onua for battle.

Another question: what sort of "Toa-level elemental powers" does a Reforge give you, and can you choose the element your weapon is reforged in? Oh, and if a reforge would also effect his energy-beams-from-hands-attack, then I'd like to sponsor Jet, the Judge Slizer. If not, well..... then I'll have to think about it some more.

Zeene: A Reforge allows a fighter to create, control, and absorb an Element, along with any innate abilities that may come with an element such as resistance to heat, enhanced strength, etc. Most characters have fairly straight-forward Elemental affiliation, but with some Reforge-eligible characters (including Jet), I'm open to a bit of negotiation. Air is the Element I have in mind, but if you think another Element would fit him better, please say so. He would likely retain his ability to shoot energy beams, though if you wish they could be lost in the Reforge process.

Hmm, would the element of Lightning seem fair to you? It's not as common as the usual six elements, yet it is canon.

(For reference: some powers the element of Lightning gives you: Creating, controlling and absorbing electricity, as well as the ability to electrically charge an object, shock/paralyze a foe and create a defensive shield of electricity.)

Also, does a Slizer already include a 20-use Disk, or does that have to be purchased separately?

Oh, and I assume power of the energy beams from his hands are considered a Special Attack and thus determined by his 'Mind' skill, right?

You know what, I'M JOINING.

I would like to Sponsor Millenium, and buy these items.

Power Fuel: temporarily raises agility in battle; for Slizers; 5,000 W

Disk: a throwing weapon with 20 uses; for Slizers; 8,000 W

Weapon Reforgery: Use energy from the Kanohi Ignika to recreate your weapon and grant you Toa-level Elemental Powers; for Slizers, RoboRiders, and Hero Factory characters; 5,000 W

This adds up to 18,000 W, which leaves me with 32000 W. Do I get to choose my Elemental power from the reforge?

I used to have a banner here.

But that RPG is dead.

What now?

Zeene: Lightning is perfectly fine, yes. Disks need to be purchased seperately, and yes, the damage caused by energy beams in influenced by the Mind stat.

Canis: Welcome to the Coliseum! The items have been added to Millennia's inventory, and yes, since Millennia's Elemental affinity is unclear you may decide what Element it will be. Also, you may choose the shape and name of the Reforged Weapon if you wish.

Zakaro: Welcome to the Coliseum! The Titan Gauntlets have been added to Breez's inventory, and her boomerangs have been Reforged into Zephyrangs, granting her Toa-level power over Air! (You may change the name/shape of the Reforged weapon if you wish.)

Okay, then I'd like to get myself a Disk-pack, and reforge to lightning along the way, while boosting his electric-handbeam powers instead of his disks. (Do, of course, include the other (innate) abilities, though)

Total: 13,000 Widgets

Remaining: 37,000 Widgets

Hmm, and how much stat-boost does one of those temporary-boost items give you?

Zeene: The Disk has been added to Jet's inventory, and Jet now has Toa-level power over Lightning!

As for the stat-boosting items, since they're temporary there isn't an exact figure attached to the boost they provide.

Zeene: I should mention that being without Widgets could make it more difficult to arrange a fight. Your opponent's sponsor could provide all the money used to promote the match, but you probably have better chances if you have some Widgets to contribute. Do you still want to purchase the trainer?

Okay, then I would like a battle-axe and control over Light. (If not allowed, then Plasma) I would also like to do these trainings:

Agility +5

Strength +3

This adds up to 21,000 W, leaving me with 11,000 W remaining.

Hmmm, I was planning on preparing for the first tournament, but I guess you're right. Nevermind, then.
