RPG: Young Justice - Aftermath

Welcome to Young Justice: Aftermath. This roleplay is set in the Earth-16 universe featured in the DC TV series Young Justice. The year is 2026.It has been ten years since the Reach were forced off this planet by its heroes, and five since the Light has resurfaced. They are more dangerous than they have ever been, with a Parademon army. After the Reach had been defeated, Lex Luthor started selling a variant Reach soft drink that was designed to make the inhabitants of Earth docile. This drink, unlike the original, made metagenes activate more frequently and even gave people without them metagenes. It didn't take long for the Justice League to find out about it, and he was quickly stopped, but the damage was done. LexCorp, being as large as it is, was hardly shaken by the incident and the case against Lex himself has been tied up in the courts for years.Five years, ago the Warworld arrived in the solar system carrying two original members of the Light; Savage and Klarion. With them was a new member; Darkseid. The Brain, Lex Luthor, Ra's al Ghul and Queen Bee were brought to the Warworld, and the reformed Light plotted. Not long after that, Sportsmaster realized that the best way to train new villains was to start young, and have the trainees be willing. It had worked, to an extent, with his daughters, after all. He started the Unjust League to do this. This organization trained young villains, and quickly became a large criminal group. But, during this time, the Team and the League also grew in number, making all three organizations quite large.Next, Cadmus was bought by the government as a defense against metahumans. All genomorphs were disposed off, and the organization is neither hostile nor friendly to the Light, Unjust League, the Team or the Justice League.

Factions

The Justice League: The most famous heroes there are. This organization is one of the largest there is, and is based in their satellite, the Watchtower. It is led by Black Canary, and most of the original Team is a member. The minimum is age is 18.The Team: The young counterpart to the Justice League, the Team's age lets them pass unnoticed by many and act as a stealth team. They are covert ops, and not many people know about them. They operate out of the Watchtower in conjunction with the League. They are watched over by Aqualad and Nightwing, two founding members. The three most prominent heroes are the Tornado Twins, children of the Flash, and Tabby Cat, child of Chesire and Red Arrow, all three of whom are ten.The Unjust League: In some ways, both a counterpart to the League and the Team. They are both young, and famous. They were founded and are trained by Sportsmaster. They have several bases scattered across the planet, but their main base is in the remains of Mount Justice. The Light: A large organization of evil villains, who only allow season operatives into their ranks. The actual members of the Light are the members of the leading council; Vandal Savage, Ra's al Ghul, Lex Luthor, Queen Bee, Darksied, The Brain, and Klarion. Everyone else is merely a pawn. The 'lead pawn' is Deathstroke. Gordon G. Godfrey is the voice of persuasion for the Light, and is secretly a New God.Cadmus: Soon after the Reach was defeated, the US government, following suit from all others, bought up several genetic research firms, including Cadmus, and bundled them together as Cadmus. This was as protection against any sort of metahuman uprising. Gone are the genomorphs of old, and here to stay are clones and specially adapted weapons to each hero and villain. They are neutral in this war. For player-made factions, see post #2.

Important Locations

Earth: The biggest hot spot for activity of metahuman nature, Earth is an incredibly fragmented planet on the political spectrum. All five of the major factions in the metahuman war are primarily based here. There is a network of zeta-beam (teleportation) blocking technology orbiting over earth, preventing teleportation to and from Earth. The Watchtower is under this network, allowing the Justice League and the Team to travel to set locations placed in strategic locations on Earth. The International Space Station orbits higher than the network, and there is a Zeta Tube there that leads to the Olympus Mons colony on Mars.-The Watchtower: This is not exactly a location on Earth but rather a satellite orbiting the planet. It looks like a large tower atop a meteor and is the base of operations for both the Justice League and the Team, both of whom operate in conjunction.-The Cadmus Facility: The base of the Cadmus Military Corporation, this facility is located underground in Washington DC and is the US government's response to the growing metahuman situation. They employ their own metahumans, and are finding ways to defeat every public villain and hero.-Unjust Cave: This is a base for The Unjust League, located right underneath where Mount Justice could have been found before it was destroyed by the Light, in Happy Harbor, Rhode Island. Sportsmaster uses it as a base for his team because of his sense of humor and the fact that no one would look there.-Atlantis: This is an underwater kingdom populated by humans adapted to breathing and living underwater. The country is ruled by their king, known on the surface as Aquaman. Atlantis joined the UN approximately five years ago.-The UN Headquarters: This is where the General Assembly of the UN is located, and is used by the Team and the League to contact the governments of the world. Currently, the relations between the League and the UN are going well. It can be found in Manhattan, New York.-STAR Labs: STAR Labs is a private organization devoted to advanced technology and superpowers. They, unlike Cadmus, are trusted by the League. STAR Labs is the go to place if someone on the team doesn't recognize a piece of technology. They have many locations across the US.Mars: This is world is a peaceful one, seeing as how it only has two governments: The Co-Nation Colony and the Martian Government. The Martian government is a monarchy, with the Red Martians on top, Green in the middle and White on the bottom. Martians have a wide variety of powers at their disposal, but Martian Manhunter and Miss Martian are the most skilled and powerful.-Olympus Mons: This is the Co-Nation Colony founded by the UN and is both the only human colony on Mars and the only colony on the surface. A large dome covers the entire dormant volcano, and inside are buildings. The Justice League and Team have bases here.-N'Herzz G'Alm: The capital city of the Martians, this city is underground. The Red Martian Royal Family G'Alm have their palace here. The city is has three main layers: The high class Red Martians on the bottom, as that is closest to the core and warmest, the middle class Green Martian section in the middle and the White Martian slums on top. The entrance to the city is near Olympus Mons. The Unjust League has a base in the White Martian sector.Warworld: A giant artificial world that is more of a huge planet-city. The entire inside of the planet is just mechanics and city spots, and the outside is covered in rockets and weaponry systems. This is the base of the Light and sits between Saturn and Uranus.

How to Join

Simply fill out the form below, post it in the discussion topic and wait for a staffer to approve it.There is a four character maximum, with the qualification that no more than two characters may be a member of each faction (per player, naturally). Choose how to spend your characters wisely. Characters may be retired to make way for new ones, but you will need to wait a week between retirement and new character submission.Note that while you can directly join the Justice League or the Light, they have more rigorous screening than the other factions so its very unlikely you'll be able to sneak a double agent in there. PM a staffer if you want to try, but you'll probably be shot down unless you have a really good story to tell.Species not from Earth are allowed, provided they have been introduced in some form of DC media prior, as are the more unusual native species like Atlanteans, Amazons and homo magi. Feel free to get creative with the profiles. This is a superhero RPG, after all.Alias: (your superhero/supervillain name. Will not apply to all characters, naturally)Name: (the actual name of your character)Age: (derp)Faction: (the Team, the Justice League, the Unjust League, the Light, Cadmus, or freelance)Alignment: (choose from the nine classic D&D alignments [Lawful Good, True Neutral, Chaotic Evil etc.]. Optional.)Equipment/Abilities: (here describe metahuman abilities, batarangs, mech suits, magic styles etc.)Weaknesses: (must have at least one weakness. If your powers are very strong, more weaknesses must be outlined)Appearance: (derp 2.0)Origin: (tell us how your character came to be the man, woman or it that he/she/it is today)

Rules

1. This may be a game about metahumans, but no metagaming. That is, don't let your characters have impossible revelations just because you as a player know something about the plot or other characters.2. No bunnying (controlling other people's characters without permission).3. No autohitting.4. No deus ex machina.5. Direct OOC posts to the discussion topic.6. Please be courteous, and don't refuse to lose out of pride.7. All BZP rules apply, naturally.8. Do remember to give an indication of time and place at the start of each IC post. For example,

IC: Unjust Cave, Night Sportsmaster sighed. "Pathetic. We'll have to do that whole training run again."

Or something. This will keep things in order (try to be mindful of other people's timestamps).9. Players are encouraged to alter the plot and introduce new concepts and twists, but anything terribly earth-shattering should be run by Canis Lupus first.10. Don't let the multitude of rules overburden you.Good players will be rewarded, but disobey rules and your characters may be brutally maimed/murdered and/or you, the player, will be cast out of the RP. For justice!StaffBundalings - HostCanis Lupus - Story Master Edited by Bundalings

Plot Summary:

Nothing has happened yet. Get out there and do something!

Missions:

-Raid Cadmus: Sportsmaster has ordered his agents to steal a valuable experimental nanobiotech device from Cadmus. What do these nanobots do? They give their host reprogrammable superpowers, allowing anyone to become a superhero with whatever power they want, and change those powers at a whim. As a reward for working well on this mission, well performing agents on both the Unjust League and the Team will become field leaders.

-The Matrix of the Spectrum: Centuries ago, the Guardians of the Galaxy created the 'Matrix of the Spectrum'. This device could charge up any item with a power of the Emotional Spectrum, allowing someone has that item to use that power. The Guardians realized this artifact was incredibly powerful, and broke it into eight pieces, sending it to a distant solar system. This was the Sol System. The pieces of the Matrix are scattered across the planets of the Sol System, with one piece per planet. None of the pieces have been found, and all five major organizations in the metahuman war want the Matrix.

-Sound Vacuum: An evil scientist not working with the Light or the Unjust League named Dr. Thirty-One has set off several devices that absorb all sound in an area around Beijing, removing all sound from the city. His motives are currently unknown, but it is known that complete silence can make a person go insane. The Justice League has been sent to handle this problem.

Player Made Factions:

If you can get two other people to join your faction, it will be allowed. If you can't, it will not be allowed.

The Committee

“Bigger than one world, bigger than one man.”

A secretive council hiding behind the façade of the corporation Pangaea Industries the Committee is dedicated the cause of humanity. They will use any resources available to advance the place of humanity in the galaxy, be those resources based in magic, technology or genetics. They are a well-funded and well-equipped group, partly due to the profits brought in by their front organizations and partly because of the immense wealth of the organizations founders. The Committee has two main objectives, the destruction of those they think of as humanities enemies (this covers most, if not all, alien races) and acquiring the resources needed to accomplish said destruction. Earth is beset on all sides by dangerous species. The Reach are only one of many, the enemies of humanity are legion. With the fate of humanity on the line, The Committee has come to one conclusion: if humanity is to survive, it must conquer. The Committee is based out of a large cluster of skyscrapers in Los Angles, though they have other small bases scattered throughout the system. The Committee is headed by Basilisk.

IC: Seth tried again. An orange glow fizzled into existence around the broken picture frame, but it still wouldn't fix. There was another piece lost, but he'd hoped he didn't need it.And if he took much more time he'd miss the Cadmus mission.Being in space still bugged him.OOC: Timeshifter open for interact in the Watchtower.

IC: Something small but fast hissed through the void of space like a meteor. Orbital sensory satellites around Earth would have noticed it as it hit the atmosphere and turned into a screaming flare of glowing plasma. The corona of fire faded away as the outer spheres were passed and soon even the lasting glow faded. Well, mostly faded. There was still a strange red aura around the thing, but this did not seem to be fire but something...other.

Its arcing descent took it to a small farmstead in Kansas, where it crashed into a barn, The result was a very thoroughly demolished barn, three dead cows, and some baffled chickens. But that last one may not have been entirely the crash's fault...In the remains of the barn lay the cause of the destruction; a small elfin figure in red and black, the glow around her flickering and fading as she no longer needed to be shielded. The fall had left her stunned for now, but that was a state that couldn't last long.

IC: Metal feet clanged on metal flooring behind Seth as Mister Thirteen stomped.

"Uh, hey, its...Clockstopper? Sorry, I'm sort of new here. Not quite got everyone's codenames down..."

GM IC: Sportsmaster [unjust Cave]

The seventy year old villain, who, mind you, was still in the prime of his life, looked at the holoscreens. Similar to the ones that had been implemented by the Team in their stay at the former mountain, these were displaying images of a swarm of nanobots.

One of the villain's students came up to him and said, "What are these?" After pausing for a quick second, the student hastily added on, "Sir." Sportsmaster replied, "Oh, merely a small nanotech device that can give people superpowers. Any superpower they want, that is."

The young villain stared at Sportsmaster in shock and said, "And who makes these? STAR?"

"No, Cadmus. You will steal them."

"Don't you think that is a little dangerous?"

"Of course it is. That's why I'm rewarding my top performing agents with field leadership."

"Really?"

"Yes. Take this father box, and go gather agents of the Unjust League. Get me these nanobots."

GM IC: Green Lantern(s) [Watchtower]

The two Green Lanterns looked at each other. One of them, Hal Jordan had retired and no longer wore his power ring. He wasn't even a member of the Green Lantern Corps anymore. The other of them, John Stewart, was still active.

They had been called to talk about the Matrix of the Spectrum to a select counsel of Leaguers. The council consisted of Superman, Captain Atom, Black Canary, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Nightwing, Miss Martian, Martian Manhunter and the current leader of the Team, Superboy. The original League and Team, or all that were still active.

Aquaman was the first to speak. He was not King Orin, but Kaldur'Ahm, the king's protege. "Tell us about the Matrix. We know next to nothing about it." He was answered by Hal Jordan.

"It was created by the Guardians to create emergency Lanterns. The effects are permanent, but the Matrix charges up an item with the power of the emotional spectrum. Any emotion."

Then, it was John Stewart's turn to speak, "They eventually destroyed it, and sent the eight pieces to the Sol System- before there was any sentient life. They didn't realize that it would cause complications. One piece per planet."

The elder of the Martians responded, "I believe the Martians found something that fits the description of a piece. However, it has been lost."

Finally, the leader of the League spoke, "We can't let this artifact fall into the hands of Cadmus, the Light or the Unjust League. We have to find all eight parts."

IC (Azrad, Los Angles)

The meeting room was empty, but Abd Al-Azrad knew it would not be that way for long. The place was well-lit, with with large glass windows on one side offering a stunning view of the city at night. In the distance, lights glimmered, cars moved along roadways, the occasional plane flew over the city. Other, sometimes taller, buildings, loomed in the distance, like citadels crafted from bright jewels. Beyond all of this however, was the night sky. Though light pollution dimmed it, stars were still visable in the sky. These stars filled the Sage with dread. The thought of a thousand thousand alien species, each horrible in their own unique way, looking down upon on the Earth from those menacing pale lights in the sky raised hairs on the back of his neck. Even when he had wondered the deserts as a poet, he had still looked to the sky with fear. Now it appeared, once again, that a small part of the terror in the stars had made it's way to the Sol System his.....sources.....had indicated that much.

The eight pieces of the Matrix had been scattered throughout the system. A great boon, if the Committee could find it first. Or at the very least, secure parts of it. If,however, others found it first then he feared it would be the start of the end-times. The fragile flame that was humanity could not long endure if the wrong hands clasped their claws around the Matrix. Insofar as the Sage was concerned, any hands but Commitee's were the wrong hands.

So here he sat, in an empty meeting room, at the head of a long black table, surrounded by equally black leather chairs. Waiting for his comrades in arms to arrive.

IC: Magnon [Los Angeles]

The Cro-Magnon stepped inside the elevator and pressed the button to take him to the top of the building. The box started to go upwards, and he started to smile at technology at work here. Everyone took it for granted, but the figure in the elevator was a caveman.

He had lived for thousands upon thousands of years without any sort of technology. Even a phone amazed him. Skyscrapers, cars, the Internet, and many inventions that everyone paid no attention to. It was an affect of being so old.

He got out of the elevator and he nodded to his comrade, Abd Al-Azrad. He went over to the head of the table, and took a seat near it.

IC (Abd Al-Azrad)

Azrad nodded, chasing away his worries with centuries of experience and the knowledge that, at the very least, he wasn't being eaten by unseen demons. Again. "Hello my friend." Azrad leaned forwards and clasped his hands together. "I trust your business ventures are going well?"

IC: Magnon [Los Angeles]

"Most excellent. I design several of the products myself- after all, I am 50,000 years old. I have spent several thousand years studying. Now, I presume we will be talking about the Matrix, yes?"

"Now, there is something about this that I must consult you about. Not very long ago, an object entered the atmosphere. One of my satellites took a pictue of it as it came into the atmosphere."

At that point, Magnon leaned forward and tapped a touch screen on the table. A holographic image of a large ball of red fire appeared. Magnon pressed buttons until it was clear what the shape was.

It was humanoid, and wearing what appeared to be a Green Lantern uniform, but in red. On one finger, there was a glowing red light. The Cro-Magnon said, "Make what you will of it. We think it is a member of a corps that works along side the Green Lanterns."

IC: Red Prince [Watchtower]

A tall figure with extremely long limbs and a squat face appeared out of the wall next to Wildfire. The Red Martian changed his form into something a bit more familiar to the hero, a human from England.

'Ricardo! Why don't you visit us anymore? We're right down the hall! Think you're too good for us because your in the League, don't you?'

J'Azzon had reached out with his mind to talk to Ricardo. The 'we' refered to the team.

IC / Heliogram (Phillip Grant) / Somewhere in KansasPhil was on the run again. He had run from the Unjust League innumerable times. It was an organization full of cruel and spiteful beings, and Phil was sick of them, Sportsmaster most of all. Just watch, he said to himself, wind whipping around him as he sped down the highway on a red motorcycle, they'll fall apart without my holograms. My holograms and my good humor. He'd never gotten so far before. Usually he'd hardly left the state before getting called back for some exercise or other. And that was saying something. Rhode Island was tiny. But here he was, twelve hours out and no one to get in his way.*ding ding*He ignored the sound of the alert from his communicator.*ding ding*He sighed explosively and pulled over. No one to get in my way... provided I'm not anthropomorphizing my conscience. Yes... they'd fall apart without me. He read the message. Something about a heist. So not just a training exercise? That's something at least. If he were to be honest with himself, he'd know he was just acting out, hoping to be noticed. Some kids sneak out of their rooms at night and lie to their parents about it, but when you're a supervillain in training, your sneaking out tends to be a little grander. All things considered, however, stealing a motorcycle and driving across eight states lands more in the misdemeanor category, somewhat outside of "supervillainy" on the venn diagram of crime. This lack of desire to truly be free of the Unjust League - the only family he had - can easily explain why upon reading the messages he immediately turned around and started driving back. That's when he noticed a red flare descending from the sky. It hit the ground not more than half a mile away, and he could clearly see it level a barn not far off the road. Average eyes probably couldn't have seen it, but his eyes were enhanced by his metagene to the point where he thought he might have seen a human shape in the red glare. Kansas sure seems to attract extraterrestrials...He gunned the motorcycle and arrived at the ruined barn shortly. The dust from the impact was still settling, and in the midst of the debris (that included the corpses of some unfortunate farm animals) he saw a figure. "A Lantern! No way..." he whispered, and crept closer...

IC: Alesiu snapped her eyes open. The planet was...unfamiliar to her. Its sky was too blue to be any of the Graxoms. The ring whispered in her mind about possibilities, but none of them matched all the parameters. The planet was as much unknown to it as it was to her. But there was someone close by. Someone made of meat. They could probably be...persuaded to reveal information. If they survived being asked the question.

"Blood for ink on history's page," she mumbled quietly, gingerly standing up in the middle of her crater. "Red light shining in centre stage." Her words got louder and her forcefield shimmered into life again. "No walls shall hold me, no bars shall cage, beware my power..." She raised a hand, and vivid scarlet light spat from her ring, taking shape in the air into a formidable looking battle axe. "Red Lantern's Rage!" The axe descended fast, swooping in for a slicing cut at Heliogram's legs. She was aiming to cripple, not kill. For now at least

OOC: Yes, yes, I know the actual Red lantern corps oath is different, but how is she supposed to know that? :P

"We will have to deal with that....and quickly. Perhaps it is time to test out our latest product line?" Azard smiled, just for a moment. "I believe we could have helicopters at the scene within in a reasonable timeframe. Hm. Then again, it may be dangerous to deploy when we have so little information on our foe."

IC / Heliogram / Somewhere in Kansas

Heliogram let out a yelp of surprise before leaping backward awkwardly, stumbling to the ground but at least avoiding the axe. "Right, Red Lantern, Rage," he shouted before becoming completely invisible.

Then three of him appeared where one was before. "Calm down, lady. I'm sure you're just addled by the crash. No one could try to hurt someone as handsome as me, right? Or as handsome as one would assume that I am..." he trailed off, referring to the fact that he appeared to be made entirely of featureless shadow.

IC / Jordan Alatya / Cadmus, Washington DC

Jordan wiped the perspiration from her brow as she walked back to her lab. Waller was a formidable woman. Jordan always got the sweats when it came time to check in, especially when she had so little to report.

Her project, the PAWH, had been on the precipice of completion for weeks. She had run what felt like thousands of simulations, but they'd all come up with nothing. The forces she was experimenting with were so alien, the computers couldn't predict what would happen if she were to activate the warp harness with someone inside.

Waller was understanding of her hesitancy to activate the armor when all she had was theories on what exactly it would do, but Jordan couldn't help herself from trying to prove herself to her boss.

IC / Lady White / Los Angeles

Lady White materialized in the room with Magnon and Azrad. "Send me to investigate, I will crush the extraterrestrial invader." The air of haughtiness was unmistakable. Lady White's confidence was not entirely unearned; in her time she had done much, seen much, learned much, destroyed much, and even become the deity of several cults.

'Oh, hey Eriara'E! How you doing? Its nice to see some other non-humans in the Watchtower.' As the prince of Mars said this, he shape shifted back into his normal, Martian form. IC:"Two aliens and a walking cliche?"

A voice commented from behind Eria, amusement evident in the tone. The comment was immediately followed by a half-yawn, as the League's laziest member rounded the corner. "Sounds like the start to a bad joke."

"You guys work at this way, way too hard. I mean, do you lot ever do anything but practice? Practice hand to hand, practice powers, practice team tactics. Y'all need to relax a bit." Samuel arched his back, stretching most of his body at the same time. After a moment, he slipped his hands into his pockets, and regarded all three.

"Learn the power of a good nap."
