Archives Topics and Logging in Produce IPS Driver Error

Posted by fishers64 on Feb 23 2013 - 06:42 PM

IPS Driver Error

There appears to be an error with the database.
You can try to refresh the page by clicking here.

This error occurs whenever I try to access topics in the archive boards or log in to the archive boards. I suspect that both topic and user data for said area is missing.

I'm no staff member, but I don't think petitioning the admins is going to work. Right now I think their priorities are attracting new members to the site and upgrading the features they see rather than trying to appease all of us old nerds.

Which sucks. But I'm afraid we are just going to have to be patient. If the staff gets the idea that those who want the archives back are ungrateful and petty. This trivializes our issue even more. I think a kind, thoughtful PM to Black Six would definately go further than organizing a petition. A petition just makes the staff look bad, and they are going to hate us even more for that. That doesn't inspire positive action.

Now don't read me wrong. Having the archives back is the number one issue I want fixed. But taking the wrong approach is only going to make things worse.

A petition just makes the staff look bad, and they are going to hate us even more for that.

Even more? What?

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to seem ungrateful or petty. I appreciate what the admins do, probably more than a lot of people, as BZP has been the extent of my social life for the past eight years. You could say I'm indebted to them, and I realize that they have their own lives and they're running a site from scratch when I can't even manage a Wiki. I truly appreciate everything they do, and the last thing I want to do is start a riot. I'm just grasping at straws, and I admit that sounded like a better idea when I suggested it. I think I see why that's not a good idea now, and I apologize to them and anyone else offended by the idea.

But I still think that no communication and no visible change for two months is unacceptable, no matter the severity of the issue. Can't we get progress reports? An assurance that this is actually going to get taken care of any time soon? As I said, I realize that the staff are quite busy, but from this end what is being done is all up to imagination, and mine has been a bit strained as of late.

I think most of the staff including me are no wiser about this topic than you are, sorry.

You can expect to see more information about this later in the week.

We are nagging them about a problem that needs to be fixed, so that hardly inspires positive feelings. :P  But yeah, that was a misspeak - I was trying to convey that getting the staff mad at us wasn't going to fix it.

Here is the official update on the archives. They will be taken offline in around two months.
