Paragraph indentation not allowed

Posted by Kakaru on Nov 15 2012 - 07:37 PM

When posting a story with paragraph indentation, BZPower automatically sets it back to the edge of the page, forcing authors to hit enter twice to separate paragraphs and dialogue instead.

Using eight spaces (or so) to simulate indentation doesn't work either, though the spaces are still there when one goes back to edit the post.

I do this:
[color="white"]--------[/color]

It's a bit tedious to put it in front of every paragraph, but the effect is nice.

Haha, that's pretty much what I do.
Anyway, yeah, consecutive spaces and/or indents should be permitted. I have attempted to make ASCII drawings of LEGO pieces and stuff to help people understand various piece connections in MoCs or other creations, and then it all just gets... smooshed.

I use:

[indent]This text is indented.[/indent]

This text is indented.

Fishers, that indents -everything-. So if you have a paragraph, the paragraph isn't indented at the beginning. The whole paragraph is shifted over.

The issue, here, is that using the "indent" feature doesn't really indent -- at least now how people want it to. Instead of indenting the beginning of a paragraph, like a novel/essay would for every paragraph, it would indent the whole paragraph. Example:

When posting a story with paragraph indentation, BZPower automatically sets it back to the edge of the page, forcing authors to hit enter twice to separate paragraphs and dialogue instead.

When what you want is:

----------When posting a story with paragraph indentation, BZPower automatically sets it back to the edge of the page, forcing authors to hit enter twice to separate paragraphs and dialogue instead

See what we're talking about?

Yeah, I get it now. What I do is I put the first line in [indent=1] tags, like this...

[indent=1]This text is indented. This text is indented. This This text is not indented and so your paragraph will not be indented anymore...

[indent]This text is indented. This text is indented.[/indent]This text is not indented and so your paragraph will not be indented anymore...

What I'm saying is that's a BBCode problem, then.
[indent] [/indent]
used to work, but no longer does. :( (It used to eat me alive on the old forums!)

Right, and see, it puts that third sentence on a whole new line, then. I don't remember it ever working for me on the old forums -- I think this has kinda been a consistent issue for as long as I can remember (everyone using the "aliceblue" font in order to create indents). But still, it's not a major issue, just an inconvenience.

Yeah, at least now we have a white background....

Yeah, I've tried indenting and using consecutive spaces. Neither works, so an actual, recognized indent would help.

I've created a new BBCode tag. It basically adds five spaces wherever you put the tag. Now I need to write enough so that this line wraps around and you can see how it works. Hopefully by the end of this sill sentence it will be enough. Let's add a little more, just in case.
