Emoticons in older blog entries broken again...
In all blog entries posted before the Downtime (prior to October 2011), the emoticons do not work. Case in point:
(I just randomly stole an old blog entry that I knew had emotes in it. )
Anyway, I am confused as to why they are broken, and wonder if that can be fixed. The copied entries from the old board refer to .gif files, which is what the emoticons from the old board are. However, the emoticons in the archive work, which means that the files still exist. Is there a reasonable way to make that accessible to the blog entries so the emotes will display?
I also note, if it helps, that the emotes for the new board are a different file type. They are PNGs.
Can it be fixed?
This one's shorter.
It seems to be the same problem from last time - missing old emoticon GIFs. If it can't be fixed, I understand, but it is mildly annoying.
It does look like enabling FURL's caused this. The stored BBCode has a relative path to the BBCode image and is attempting to load the BBCode relative to the Blog FURL and not the board root.
That particular blog entry is from 2006, which means it was most likely created using IP.Board 1.x, 2.0.x, or 2.1.x.
When upgrading, there were rebuild routines that needed to be run to update the links to these emoticons. It looks like one of those rebuilds may have been missed.
At this stage, I'm afraid there aren't any rebuild tools that can repair that and not cause further damage to your content. A custom script would have to be fashioned to repair those links within the content or each entry edited individually and updated as they are found.
Creating such a script is not something our support contract with Invision covers and not something we're equipped to create ourselves. So this doesn't look like something that is going to get fixed.
