Just this morning, I've counted 8 new "members" on BZP that have posted nothing but spam topics everywhere.

Recall back in the day when we had a rule about how many posts you had to have before you no longer needed to wait for authorization or something like that?

I propose we institute something like "Can't make new topic until you've reached 10 posts" or something like that. That way, spammers will hit a roadblock in doing what I've been seeing for the past three hours.

It doesn't look like spam as much as they look...not English. I think referring them to the language use guidelines might help.

Of more importance is that we used to have a restriction that forced the first 10 posts by a new member to be approved by the staff, which was opposed so much that the staff removed it.

This is definitely an issue, and we've opened a ticket with Invision to figure out why the forum software's build in bot detector didn't catch this.

As far as the New Member program goes, we don't have any plans of bringing it back, since once our activity died down, it was more effort than it was worth, since relatively few new accounts were malicious in any way.
