Combining Notifications

Posted by Meiko on Nov 28 2012 - 11:53 AM

This is probably a difficult-to-do addition, but it would be helpful if in notifications, since if notifies me of posts in topics I follow, if it said something like "Aanchir, Bambi, and 3 others replied to Legends of Chima Discussion" instead of 5 separate notifications. I know this technique is used on a popular social network that I'm sure most everybody is familiar with, so it's not impossible. I just assume it is difficult with the IP.Board software.

If it's possible, it would be great though!

Well the problem with that, compared to the technique you quote, is that can be updated in real time, which means each post gives a new notification, because that's what it has to do to work correctly. For that, it'd probably have to be staggered out, like a set of notifications every day or something. =/

Would it be cool? Maybe. Would certainly save space. But, then how does it group? Based off new notifications since you last 'read' the notifications?

It could update live, without needing refreshing. With some handy-dandy Javascript, it could easily update the notification panel.

There is a "daily/weekly digest" feature in the notifications settings that should do that. I tried it, but it doesn't work.
