Here it is.  Torhu's only running Bionicle Fic.  Here's the backstory to newbie's who may nut know who the "Dark Toa of the Apocolypse" are.

The Dark Toa were originally dreamed up in early July/August of 2001.  These are evil Toa based soley on the Four Horsemon of lore.

War, Famine, Pestilence, Death...

This takes place after Makuta, but before much was known about the story.  So don't mind some the minor discrepancies (especially the lack of Bohrok.)

The Story Begins Below....after you've read what I have so far...feel free to discuss it at the review thread.

Also...to see the characters that inspired the story...go here!

Chapter 1:
---------------
Kopaka dug his sword deep into the ice. Slowly, he hefted himself over the ledge and onto the summit.
"Finally." he groaned, returning his sword to its holder. "I love this mountain, but its so frelling high."
He turned to see his climbing buddy, Pohatu, huffing up behind him. Even with the Kakama, he couldn't get up the hill as fast as the Toa of Ice.
"You never mentioned THIS hill." Pohatu moaned.
Kopaka shook his head and helped Pohatu over the last edge. The Toa of Stone collapsed, gasping for air. Kopaka laughed.
"You can be preatty pathetic sometimes. I don't know how we were able to beat Makuta with you in the current shape you're in."
"Hey! You know as much as I do that this mask speeds me up, but that's mostly horizontal! This is all vertical!"
The Toa of Ice ignored the last remark and turned to journey across the summit.
It had been a long time since the defeat of Makuta at the hands of the Toa Kaita, and the battle had drained all of the Toa severly. Kopaka had taken it upon himself to ready himself for whatever challenge may come. Pohatu had.... merely come along for the ride.
"Hey, Kopaka! Try to catch me!"
Kopaka turned to see Pohatu's Kakama light up. Soon Pohatu had sped past. Kopaka shifted his mask to his own Kakama.
"You forget, Pohatu! That is one of the one's I found!"
Kopaka charged off and launched himself after his "friend." All this time using the Akaku had made him forget how fun pure speed was. Suddenly he stopped. Pohatu was a few yards ahead. Frozen in place. He was looking at something. Kopaka switched to his trusted mask and looked deeply into the snow. Past white, past the ground. Pohatu did see something. Under the snow....

Chapter 2:
---------------
"Pohatu! We should probably be moving along now!"
Kopaka didn't know what it was coming, but whatever it was, he didn't feel up to a fight at the time. Pohatu turned and began to run the other way, but stopped dead again.
    "What it is?"
Pohatu wasn't looking at Kopaka, rather past him. The sun was coming down into Kopaka's face, leaving no shadows to tell what it was. Kopaka readied to draw his sword, spun, and faced his opponent...

    Or rather... opponents.

Kopaka now faced three enourmous beasts. Not Muaka, not Kane-Ra, not anything he had seen before. They were four legged, red, and head large black eyes. No pupils, just black orbs sitting in two deep eye sockets. The body was about the size of Kopaka, and the head was about the length of Kopaka's sword. The menacing part though was the tail. It came to a long bladed tip.  Kopaka drew his sword. Would they attack?
"Friend or foe?" Kopaka looked into the creatures eyes. They were unblinking.
    "Friend... or foe?"
Slowly, the lead creature's lips began to move.
    "Feed. We must feed."
The lead creature roared. For the size of the head, it's mouth was almost thrice as big. Huge fangs shimmered in the light of the sun.
    "Pohatu... RUN!!"
Kopaka turned away from the beasts to see Pohatu. He was also facing down three of the monsters.
"Okay..." he thought to himself. He raised his sword and pulled back his shield. "We fight."

Chapter 3:
---------------
The lead beast (the one that had faced Kopaka) lunged for the ice Toa. Kopaka dove for cover as its massive jaws clamped into the snow. It was up quickly, and the other two began to circle Kopaka.
Pohatu sped forward into the his group of three. The lead opened his mouth wide, ready to catch Pohatu.
    "I think not!"
Pohatu quickly switched to Miru and lifted off the ground. He quickly flipped to his Pakari and slammed as hard as he could onto its upper jaw. There was a snap as he plowed through to the ground. The beast yelped in pain, and quickly summoned the other two. They attack together.
"This is going to be tough." Pohatu thought to himself.
Still wearing the Pakari, he wound up and kicked the second beast in the head. It recoiled a bit, but didn't seem phased. Pohatu paused when he heard Kopaka scream in pain.

"Frell! I wish I had a Hau right now!"
One of the beasts had managed to sneak around back and snap at Kopaka's leg. He still had a hold of it too.
    "Let me go you monster!"
Switching to Pakari, he swung his sword hard and managed to get half way through its neck. It roared and dropped the Toa. Kopaka now moved with a limp, but the strength of the Pakari helped him to ignore the pain of the bite.
"You think you have me, eh. Apparently you guys have never heard of Makuta. I took him out too!"

Pohatu, now wearing his Hau, the last mask he had to choose from, charged once again. The monsters tried to hit him, but without sneak attack, nothing could harm Pohatu.
"You like this don't you guys? C'mon, try again!"
The head monster lowered his head and rammed Pohatu head on. He resisted the impact and switched to Pakari to hold it off. Sensing the change, the two other beasts rushed him from the sides. Using everything the Pakari had to offer, he swung the beast he was holding. It resisted for a moment, but soon it had given way to Pohatu's increased stregth. The monster was now in the air.
    "Pohatu, with the wind-up!"
Pohatu pulled back his leg and collected everything into his one limb.
    "He shoots!"
The leg connected with the bottom jaw of the beast. There was a snap, and the beast hit the ground. It was dead, its neck broken.
    "Who wants some now?"
There was only one of the beasts in front of him. Pohatu switched to the Hau as he felt the jaws of the second clench into his back.

Chapter 4:
---------------
Pohatu couldn't ignore the pain. The Hau couldn't prevent the attack. He switched back to Pakari. The strength from the mask kept him from passing out. Weakly he cried out to Kopaka.

    "Help me!"
Kopaka saw it happen. Pohatu had been completely overtaken by the enemy.
"How could he be so stupid! He knew they were quick! Oh well. Guess it's up to me... again."
Kopaka slashed at the lead, finishing him off. Quickly, he switched to the Kakama. He braced himself as the pain from his wounds returned.
    "I'm coming, Pohatu!"
He rushed forward at the two beasts. At least he had gotten rid of one during all this.
"Take this you pile of junk!"
He switched to Pakari and sliced at the beast holding his friend. Direct hit. The beast's jaws fell open. It hit the ground dead. Pohtau fell as well. He had on the Pakari, trying to ignore the pain of his massive wound.
"I... can't fight... it's too great, even for the Pakari."
"Stay here. I've got these four."
The beasts had managed to line themselves up. They were forming a fighting style. These guys were well trained.
Kopaka, still wearing the Pakari, readied to fight.
    "Okay, who's first."
The monster on the far right stepped forward. It barked at the others and stepped forward.
"Guess you're the leader now, eh?"
    "Feed! We must feed!"
It's mouth open as it charged at Kopaka.
    "Watch this!"
Kopaka swung his sword at the snow. As it cut through the ice, a tremendous wall of powder exploded out and around the monster. It tried to fight back, but was unable to move against the massive wall of ice. It roared as it was buried up to its neck. Kopaka stepped up to the beast.
    "Say goodnight."
With one quick motion, he drove his sword into the monster's forehead.
"Okay. You guys going to run away yet?"
    "FEED!!"
This time they all attacked at once. Kopaka tried to fend them off, but his damaged leg was begining to overtake him. He felt himself collapse as his leg gaveway. He looked up toward the sky, and saw only the three beasts looking down on him. One of them opened its mouth wide.
   "I really wish I had a Hau."
   Everything went black.

Chapter 5:
---------------
Kopaka awoke from darkness in a dark cavern. In the distance he could see Pohatu, unmasked and lying on the ground. The Kakama was next to him, cracked down the middle. Kopaka saw his Akaku beside his sword arm. He reached out to grab it, but a sharp pain shot through.
"Pohatu? Can you hear me! Are you okay?"
Pohatu failed to respond. From this distance, Kopaka couldn't see if the Toa of Stone was even still alive. Again he tried to get up, but something was holding him down. He turned to see only one large beast, with its tail blade driven deep into Kopaka's shoulder.
"Think you've got me beat, eh?"
The beast twisted the blade. Kopaka screamed in pain. His yells were met with a sinister laughter.
"Is this the mighty Kopaka? For some reason I expected so much more."
From deep within the shadows, a centaur appeared. It looked like a Toa to Kopaka, but had no plesantness about him. The body was brown, and one the face was a horrid Red Kakama. At least it may have been a Kakama. It looked as if bone was poking out from underneath the skin of the mask. The worst part of the centaur was its weapon. A gigantic battle axe ending in a double blade, red as blood.
"It's a pity really. That you're friend had to come along. We weren't expecting him. Not part of the equation. Oh well. I'm sure we will find another use for him."
The centaur approached Kopaka, kicking Pohatu out of his way. Slowly he began to stroke the monster holding Kopaka.
"Mangai. Beautiful creatures, aren't they, Kopaka? Unbelievable strength. And all they care about is their hunger. Makes them easy to control. Feed them, and they fight for you. That's why they are perfect for my needs."
    "Who are you?"
The centaur bowed, placing the axe on his back.
"I am Hiakai, Bringer of Famine."
    "You work alone?"
"Of course not. These Mangai are merely slaves, my real associates are here somewhere. Uruta? Pakanga?"
Two more centaurs stepped out. The first was a pale sickening green. He had a decent sized claw on his right hand, and on the left he held a small hooked scythe. His mask was so mutilated that Kopaka had no idea what it could have been before. The second was hunchbacked, red in color, and carried a long flaming spear. His mask appeared to be some variation of the one Nokama wore.
"Hello, Kopaka. We've been expecting you."
The hunchback spoke with a booming voice.
"I am Pakanga, Bringer of War."
The green one spoke in a voice that almost seemed to cackle.
"I am Uruta, Bringer of Pestilence. Welcome to our 'home.'"
Hiakai snapped his fingers and the Mangai pulled its blade out of Kopaka. The Toa of Ice groaned as he tried to move his arm. No good. Pakanga walked over to Pohatu and rammed his spear into the his side. With ease, he lifted the Toa off the ground.
"So what's the plan for this one? Uruta, you want him?"
"No. The Master will probably want to see this one."
Uruta and Hiakai walked over to Kopaka and picked him up off the ground.
"Let me go! What do you freaks want anyway?"
"More than you could ever imagine, Kopaka. So much more."

Chapter 6:
---------------
Kopaka couldn't struggle as Uruta and Hiakai carried him deeper into the cavern. Ahead of him, Pakanga carried Pohatu over his shoulder. The centaur's spear was buried deep into the Toa's side. The cavern opened into a large lair. Four pillars sat around a platform. On the platform was a shorter pillar, with a mask mounted on the side facing the group. Kopaka recognized it as a white Kanohi Hau. Only it looked so much like a skull.
    "What is that?"
Uruta and Hiakai threw Kopaka to the ground. Pakanga carried Pohatu to the mask and set him down.
"PAKANGA, WHY DO YOU APPROACH ME?"
"Sire, I have an offering for you. The one they call Pohatu, the Toa of Stone."
The eyes of the mask lit up and lowered to look at Pohatu.
"Ah, yes. He will be perfect."
Kopaka began to fear for his ally.
"What do you need him for? ANSWER ME!"
The mask's eyes rolled up to gaze Kopaka in the eyes.
"I am very tired after resting for so long. Occasionally I need to feed in order to return to my proper self. It has been so long that I need so much food. But this creature should do rather nicely."
The eyes of the Hau erupted in light, which surrounded Pohatu's body. It lifted the Toa's body up off the ground and brought it face to face with the mask. Pohatu groaned as he was uprighted. His eyes blinked open.
   "Ah. Hello, Pohatu."
The mouth portion of the Hau began to stretch and open wide. As it did, light began to leave Pohatu and flow into the mask. Pohatu screamed in pain as the life was literally sucked out of him. Pohatu tried to lift his hands to strike at the mask, but suddenly they fell to his side, limp. The light went out, and Pohatu's lifeless body fell to the ground.
   "POHATU!!"
Kopaka felt adrenaline flow throughout his body. He shot up to his feet and tried to rush at the mask. He was stopped by a swing of Hiakai's axe. He fell to the ground, unable to move his legs. Uruta kicked Kopaka in his side rolling the toa onto his back.
"Tragic, isn't it? I bet you think you're next, don't you?"
"You might as well! There's no honor in a death without fighting."
"Oh, Kopaka. We have much bigger plans for you. You get to live for now."
Pakanga threw him his mask, and Pohatu's.
"Take yours, and take Pohatu's. He was an example of our might. Farewell, Kopaka. Prey we do not cross paths again. Uruta?"
Uruta nodded, and raised the bottom end of his scythe. With one swing, he knocked Kopaka cold.

Kopaka awoke back on the summit of the mountain. He didn't feel much pain.
"Was it just a dream. Did those beasts just knock me out? Did I survive?"
Kopaka rolled over to his side to find Pohatu. Instead of finding the Toa next to him, all Kopaka saw was the cracked Kakama. It had not been a dream at all. It had all been very real...

Chapter 7:
---------------
Ko-Koro, late night... Nuju and Onewa sat waiting for Kopaka and Pohatu to return. Earlier in the day Onewa had sensed that something was wrong with Pohatu. Nuju felt the same for Kopaka. It had now been over 24 hours since they left for Mt. Ihu. Onewa couldn't sense Pohatu anywhere, and Nuju was getting a faint signal from Kopaka.
"I fear for them, Onewa. I truly do. Even during the fight with Makuta they had been strong, but now Kopaka's energy feels so low. Almost near death."
"I also worry, Nuju. I have never lost track of Pohatu before. I wish I could get to the top of the mountain to look for them."
Suddenly, young Matoro rushed into Nuju's hut.
"I am sorry to disturb you, oh Lord. But I have word from the guards that Kopaka approaches."
    "Pohatu?"
"I'm sorry, Onewa, he is alone. He looks severly wounded."
"Dispatch medics. I shall join them. We must no what happened!"

Kopaka dragged his body across the snow using his sword. When Hiakai had struck him, he lost the use of his legs. They now hung off his body uslessly. Kopaka looked out to see Nuju and Onewa rushing along with a large number of Tohunga medics.
"Great. How do I explain this to them."
Kopaka looked down at the cracked Kakama. It stared back, a horrid memory of what had occured in that dark cavern. Pohatu's screams still echoed through his thoughts.
    "Kopaka! Are you alright!"
Nuju ran up to the Toa's side.
"Don't move. You look horrible. What happened?"
    "Attacked. Pohatu... they... he's gone."
The pain finally got to Kopaka. He passed out.

Warmth entered his body. It had been cold even for Kopaka. The flames made him sluggish, but he didn't care. He wouldn't need to move for a long time. Next to him, Onewa and Nuju were discussing. Between them was the Kakama. Onewa was visibly shaken, and Kopaka couldn't blame him. Everybody liked Pohatu, and even though he would never admit it, Kopaka did to.
"What do we do now? With Pohatu gone, our powers have diminished."
"I will contact the other Toa. We must conference about what to do. This was never forseen. It was always believed that the Toa could not be defeated by mere mortals."
"Onewa... These guys were more than we were. I don't know what drove them, but these are more than Makuta, beyond Rahi!"
    "How did they do it?"
"There were three centaurs and one Skull Hau. The Hau sucked the life out him. It was... I couldn't help him!"
"Skull Hau? Did you say a Skull Hau?"
    "Yes. What does it...."
Kopaka was cut off by a creature standing in the door of the hut. It was a Turaga. Green in color with a dark green Kaukau type mask. He carried a staff in his right hand. Mounted on it was an infected mask.
    "What are you?"
    "Much rather... who!"
The Turaga marched over to Kopaka. Both Onewa and Nuju moved to intercept him, but he pushed them away with a energy field from his mask. Onewa and Nuju called for guards, but nobody appeared.
"The guards can't help you. I have... dealt with them."
He began to wave his staff over Kopaka. The eyes of the Infected Hau began to glow brighter and brighter.
    "Ahh! What is this magic?"
Kopaka began to clutch his chest. Suddenly he burst from the bed and fell quickly to the ground. On his stomach now. He began to struggle to his feet. The Turaga only began to laugh manically.
"Uruta's plan will now be fulfilled. He planted the seeds for this infection. Now it is my time to bring it forth! This is only the beginning. Goodbye, Kopaka. Farewell, Ko-Koro!"
A blast of energy erupted from the staff and wrapped around Kopaka. The Toa of Ice fell still. Nuju and Onewa stood frozen in terror as Kopaka's chest began to buldge and slowly break open. It was then that the creatures were revealed. Kopaka's back burst open as hundreds of small insects began to fly from inside of him. Onewa and Nuju tried to battle them off, but they were growing, being fed from the fear the Turaga felt.
"It is so tragic that you had to die so soon, Turaga. But it is all part of the Master's grand plan. I bid you adeiu."
The Turaga bowed, and left the hut. Onewa managed to get to the door, but looked out to see the insects swarming the entire village. Tohunga ran about, screaming as the creatures massed over them.
"Go forth Rapoi!" The Turaga cried to them. "Fulfil your master's destiny! Spread the way of Pestilence. I am Peke, your monarch! Uruta's wishes are mine to fulfil!"
Onewa felt himself become weaker as the insects continued to ravage him. The last thing he saw was the twisted smile of Peke. Towering over him.

Chapter 8:
---------------
Onua could already sense something was wrong as he approached Ko-Koro. Normally he could feel the movements of the people above, but as he moved through the tunnels today, he couldn't sense anybody.
"I hope Gali and Lewa got my message."
Onua had sent for the two Toa after he began to feel huge movements coming from Ko-Koro. His claws still hurt from the feeling the tunnels gave him that moment. He had been digging siwftly, but he couldn't use the Kakama until he had a good tunnel to Ko-Koro. Then suddenly from behind him he felt footsteps. He turned to see Gali, wearing her Kakama.
    "Did I frighten you?"
Onua shook his head and continued to dig. Gali stepped up behind him and began to chop at the ground swiftly with her hooks.
"Why did you contact me? Is something wrong?"
"In Ko-Koro, yes. I am not feeling any movement from above."
"It's late. Maybe everybody is sleeping."
"No, Gali. Even then I can sense the creatures that live there. There is NOTHING. Stop here."
Onua montioned for Gali to back away. He switched to his Akaku and looked through to the surface. There was nobody above him. Quickly he clawed at the ground and lifted himself out of the tunnel. He reached down and helped Gali out.
"I could have done it myself you know."
Onua shook his head and turned in the direction of Ko-Koro. In the distance a shape was forming. It quickly took form, and Onua could make out Lewa rushing at them with his Kakama at full power.
"Stop there! Don't come any closer!"

Lewa waved his hand and Gali and Onua moved toward the village. Lewa had warned them about what they were going to see, but it wasn't enough. Lewa had moved the group a safe distance from the village, while still allowing them to view the carnage. The huts were destroyed, bodies lay scattered everywhere, ravaged beyon recognition.
    "What did this?"
Lewa shook his head, as if he didn't want to remember.
"I had flown straight here after I got your message. When I arrived, I saw a swarm of insects. It was horrible. They had Tohunga in their claws. They carried them off, still screaming and struggling to escape. I couldn't let you get any closer until I was sure they were gone."
"Where is Nuju? Did they get him too?"
"I don't know. I was afraid to enter the village. There was just too many of them."
Onua felt bad for Lewa. He was the youngest Toa, and sometimes his age got the better of him. But Onua understood. Some of the creatures they had fought were trully frightening. Gali grabbed his shoulder and pointed toward a leveled hut.
"I swear something just moved over there."
Onua switched to his Akaku and looked deep into the hut. Sure enough, there was a Tohunga cowered benethe something. Nuju was there to. Nuju didn't appear to be moving.
"I see it too. So, do we check it out?"
"I say we wait. Tahu should be here soon. I don't want to be down a Toa if those guys appear."
Onua looked again at the Tohunga. The poor villager looked trully terrified. He was noble though. He had with him a small weapon which he appeared to be protecting Nuju with. Onua turned to the others.
"We can't leave them there. I say we go."

Chapter 9:
---------------
Onua very slowly ventured into the ravaged Ko-Koro. It was horrible. Parts of Tohunga, discs, and parts of huts lay scattered everywhere.
    "What could have caused this?"
Gali and Lewa were both watching out for attack. Onua continued forward with his Akaku activated. The Tohunga was still moving around, and Nuju appeared to be somewhat okay.
"They're under here. Lewa, Gali, keep an eye out."
Onua switched back to his trusted Pakari. With a minor effort, he hefted the hut and flipped it over. The small Tohunga cowered for a moment, until he realized who it was.
"Onua? Gali, Lewa... you made it."
    "What do you mean?"
"I thought maybe they got to you to."
Onua noticed the corpse of a large insect. The Tohunga had been using it to hide.
"Is this what attacked the village."
"Not just this one. Hundreds of them. They all came from Nuju's hut. You should have seen it. There were so many... so small."
"Nevermind that for now. Are you the only survivor?"
"I think so. Nuju's here, but he has been babbling about something. I can't understand it."
Onua placed a hand on Nuju. With his sensitive claws, he could feel Nuju's heart struggling to keep up. Nuju looked up into Onua's eyes. He began to mumble again.
    "Skull Hau... Rapoi... Pohatu... Kopaka..."
    "Where's Kopaka, and Pohatu?"
Nuju didn't respond. The Tohunga pointed his weapon towards the center of the village.
"Pohatu had been climbing with Kopaka. But Kopaka returned alone. I didn't hear about what happened, all I know is that Onewa and Kopaka's bodies are in there."
Gali ran over to the wreckage of the hut nearby. The Tohunga yelled after her.
"WAIT! Don't look in there. It isn't..."
Gali screamed. Lewa ran to her. She averted her eyes, but Lewa hunched over and lifted Kopaka off the ground, Gali took Onewa. Together they carried the two bodies to Onua. Nuju saw this and began to mumble again.
"Unclean! Take the masks! Bodies unclean!!"
His last words. Nuju died there in the hut. Tears swelled in the Tohunga's eyes. The same for the Toa. It was hard. They had lost four allies today. Four friends. Onua removed the masks from the three bodies and picked up the Tohunga in his empty arm.
"Let's get out of here. There's nothing more we can do."
As they prepared to leave, a loud buzzing swelled up from the peak of the mountain. Onua, Gali, and Lewa looked up to see a swarm of bugs exactly like the one that the Tohunga had hid by. The Tohunga cowered in Onua's arms.
"They're coming back. Coming back to finish the job."

Chapter 10:
-----------------
Onua looked at the hundreds of insects swarming throughout the sky. Claws dug at the air, mandibles gnashed angrily. They wanted the group in the ruined village. Onua, Lewa, and Gali all knew that they were in trouble.
"What do we do now, Onua?"
"If they were Nui-Rama, I'd say we fight. But these guys are new."
Lewa looked at the corpse on the ground.
"They don't have any masks on. Did you knock it off?"
The Tohunga shook his head.
"No! This guy just got caught in the wave and hit the ground. I was able to finish him off."
"Okay. No infected mask, hundreds of them... we get out of here."
Gali and Lewa activated their Kakamas. Onua triggered his Miru. He didn't have a Kakama. With the Tohunga in his one arm, and the masks of the fallen commerades in his other, the group rocketed away. Onua could hear the swarm behind him.
"Rapoi..." The Tohunga was looking over Onua's shoulder. "They're getting closer. Onua, they're catching up!"
Onua glanced behind him to see the Rapoi gaining ground. They had to get to the tunnels. As they grew closer, Onua could see a figure... a Turaga, standing at the entry way.
    "Is that Whenua?"
    "No... it isn't."
They stopped. In front of them stood Peke. The Turaga of Pestilence had an evil smile on his face.
    "Hello, Toa."
    The Tohunga cowered again.
"That's Peke! He's the one that brought out the Rapoi!"
    Peke powered his head.
"Nobody is getting into these tunnels. Not by my watch. Rapoi! GET THEM!!"
Onua dropped the Tohunga and tucked the masks away for safe keeping. The three Toa lined up, their backs to each other. The Tohunga were circled off, and they were ready for attacks on any sides. The Rapoi hit swiftly. Onua felt their claws dig into his arm, it hurt, but only slightly. He activated his Pakari and took a swing at one of the bugs. His claws cut through its leg. The Rapoi cried out as it crashed, taking a small flock of bugs down with him. Lewa rushed forward and sliced them apart with his axe.
    "Got a few."
Lewa felt a rush of air and Gali's hook whizzed by his face. Another group of Rapoi hit the ground.
    "Thanks, Gali."
"No problem. I'll put it on your tab."
Onua continued to claw at the Rapoi. Sure he had a Hau but the combo of his claws and the strength of the Pakari, he didn't feel the need. Suddenly more buzzing could be heard. Louder this time. The three looked up from fighting to see another swarm.
"There's going to be too many! What now?"
"Keep holding them off! We have to get to the tunnel!"
Peke was still standing at the entrance of the tunnel. No Rapoi seemed to care that it was there. If they got to it, Onu-Koro would be in trouble.
"I have to protect my home! Keep it up!"
The second swarm hit. Onua struggled to pull the Rapoi out away from his body. Their claws dug into him, their teeth cut him deep.
"Onu-Koro! I will not let you get it!"
As Onua continued to battle the Rapoi, he could feel them getting tougher. There were just too many. The swarm had got the advantage of surprise. They weren't ready. It was a good thing Tahu was...
    "YAH!!!"
Onua felt a blast of fire brush his face as Tahu's flame sword cut through the Rapoi.
"No! Where did you come from?"
"Surprise attack! Bet you never saw it coming!"
Tahu rushed at the swarms around Gali and Lewa and cut them free. It wasn't enough though. Another swarm had hit, and the first two were still around in part. They were still significatly outnumbered.
"Okay, guys! We're out of here!"
Tahu and Gali rushed for the tunnel. Peke tried to build her shield to hold them back, but the combined force of the two was enough to cast her aside. Lewa and Onua made the next move, but a large swarm of Rapoi hit. Lewa and Onua swung frantically at Rapoi, but they were out numbered. Onua switched to his Hau. He missed his stregnth, but the added shielding would be helpful.
    "Lewa! Get out of here!"
    "And leave you? No way!"
"Trust me! It's the only way!"
Onua pried the Rapoi off Lewa and began to push them back with the Pakari.
"I'll be okay! Don't worry about me! You get the Masks and that Tohunga to safety! They're the only things that matter now!"
Lewa turned his head away and charged for the tunnel. Peke got in his way.
"You're not leaving your friend, are you?"
    "Can it!"
Lewa swung his axe at the Turaga. With the help of the Kakama, he easily out ran the shield and cut through the Turaga's wand. Peke cried out as he was thrown out of the way. Lewa turned as he entered the tunnels. He looked back at Onua, holding off the Rapoi. They didn't appear to be giving in.
    "I'LL BE FINE LEWA! GO!!"
With the masks and Tohunga in hand, he dove into the tunnels. As he made his way, he ensured that they wouldn't be able to follow. Swinging his axe wildly to collapse the tunnels.
    "Onua... I'm sorry..."

Chapter 11:
-----------------
Whenua was shocked by the news Lewa brought about Onua.  Tahu was far beyond shocked.
"You left him! How could you.."
Tahu's temper was beginning to get the best of him.
"Tahu! I didn't want.... he told me to go! I'm sorry."
"We are down three Toa, and we don't even now what we are fighting with!"
Gali was in the corner of Whenua's hut. She was talking calmly with the Tohunga about the attack. There had to be something that he knew that could help. Tahu continued to yell at Lewa until Gali approached,
"STOP IT! Tahu! I know that none of us wanted to lose Kopaka, Pohatu, or Onua, but it happened. We have to accept loss and figure out what got us. This Tohunga and Nuju both had said the same thing. Rapoi, Skull Hau, Peke. Those three words mean anything, Whenua?"
     Whenua shook his head.
"Anything I know I learned from Vakama. He keeps some info in his secret writings. Maybe you can get him to open up to you."
Tahu cracked his knuckles, and chuckled slightly.
"That shouldn't be a problem with me."
Gali and Lewa looked at each other, then Tahu.
     "So we go to Ta-Koro?"
"Yeah. Whenua, are you going to be okay if we leave you here?"
"I'll be fine. As long as Lewa closed off the tunnels, there is no way they can find Onu-Koro."
Tahu nodded. As the Toa began to leave. The small Tohunga from Ko-Koro followed.
"I want to come too. After all, you did say that I know what happened there."
Tahu crouched over and looked the Tohunga in the eyes.
    "What is your name?"
    "Mahi."
"Listen, Mahi. This is extremely dangerous. Do you want to get involved."
    "I'm not afraid."
    Tahu shook his head.
"You've got spirit, kid. Fine. Come along, don't get in my way."
Tahu turned and left in the direction of Ta-Koro. The other Toa and Mahi followed closely behind.

Whenua sat in front of the Pakari statue in his hut. For so long he had believed that Onua was mighty, and that the Toa were immortal. But the deaths of three Toa had proved him wrong.
"What are we dealing with here? What has arisen that can do so much."
Whenua was about to enter meditation when a loud cheer from the town sqaure erupted. Whenua charged out of his hut and stopped dead in his tracks. Coming into town was Onua.
    "Onua!"
Whenua rushed the Toa and hugged his leg. Onua looked down and smiled.
"Whenua. I told those guys I would be fine. But there is something we need to talk about."
Whenua was confused, but lead Onua to his hut anyway. When they entered, they were faced by a small Turaga. He wore a Red Lewa-type mask, and carried a large hook in his hand.
    "Who are you?"
"Don't worry, Whenua. I am friends with Onua. Isn't that right?"
"Oh yeah. Me and this guy go way back. He got me out of quite a jam in Ko-Koro today."
    The Turaga bowed politely.
"My name is Tikanga. Whenua, there is much that needs to be discussed."

Chapter 12:
----------------
Onua and Whenua sat down as the Tikanga began to pace around the room.
    "What do you want, Tikanga?"
    Tikanga looked straight at Whenua.
"I feel that there is a problem. A danger that may threaten your little village."
"How can I trust you? I've never met you before."
Onua laughed and patted Whenua on the back. This new attitude of Onua's worried the Turaga. Onua had always been so quite.
"Whenua, you can trust Tikanga. He's good people. Look at him..."
Onua spun Whenua around to look Tikanga in the eyes. The Turaga's mysterious mask began to glow, sending light into Whenua's eyes.
"We have a severe problem, Whenua. Would you like my help?"
Whenua couldn't tell what was happening to him, but he was beginning to like Tikanga.
"Tikanga... I trust you. Tell me what the problem is."
Tikanga smiled and took a seat in Whenua's throne. For some reason, Whenua didn't care.
"Le-Koro. It appears that Le-Koro is quite interested in aquiring new lands."
    "How?"
"Well... Lewa and Matau have been eyeing your protodermis supplies. They have spoke many times of acquiring it."
The news didn't surprise Whenua. Le-Korans had always been after this.... What was he thinking? He never had felt this way... but Tikanga was right. The Le-Korans had to be stopped.
"Onua. Lewa left you there to be killed because without you, Onu-Koro would fall to the armies of Le-Koro."
    "Can you help us?"
"Of course I can. I have been developing troops for quite some time. Whenua, who do you trust most out of you village?"
"Why, Onepu and his Crab Riders. They have always been ready to defend the village."
"Call them in. I might be able to make them quite useful."
Onua stepped out of the hut, leaving Whenua alone with Tikanga. Although this was the first time they had ever spoken, Whenua felt that the new Turaga was his closest ally. Onepu entered the hut with his crew. Onua was behind them. Tikanga stepped over and spoke with them, his mask glowing the whole time.
"They have agreed to help, Whenua. I am going to take them back to my specialized training facility. Is that all right?"
Something in Whenua's head said no, but every look into Tikanga's mask convinced him everything would be okay.
"Go ahead. Onepu, train hard. When the time comes, we will need you at your best."
Tikanga lead the small group of Tohunga out of the hut and towards the exit of Onu-Koro. As he left the underground village, a smile crossed his crooked face.
"This is going to be most entertaining."

Chapter 13:
----------------
Tahu, Gali, and Lewa walked nervously into Vakama's hut. The Turaga was pacing nervously across the floor. His Kanohi Huna was gone.
    "Vakama... where's your mask?"
Gali's questions were answered when Tahu shifted over to the Huna and handed it to Vakama. His Hau reappeared in its place.
"Thank you, Vakama. It allowed me to enter the fray."
Vakama placed the Huna on his face.
"I am glad you appreciated it. What happened?"
    Lewa shook his head.
"We lost Onua. Kopaka and Pohatu were already gone."
    Vakama looked puzzled.
"Onua is not dead. I have been sensing his presence for much time."
    "He's not dead? Then..."
"He is with his people. He is alright. Now, what of Kopaka and Pohatu?"
Tahu pushed to the front. Lewa didn't care, Onua was fine. His friend had not died because of him.
"Pohatu and Kopaka were killed by some new foe. I don't know much. Their Turaga were lost too. Before he died, Nuju told us about a Skull Hau."
    "Skull Hau!"
Vakama ran deep into his hut. When he returned he was carrying a small book. He opened it and began to read.
"Yes of course... Skull Hau. The prophecies..."
"What about prophecies? This has been foreseen?"
"Yes, Tahu. There is something beyond Makuta. Much worse. I thought it was only legend, but this is real."
Lewa wasn't paying attention. Something felt weird about his home in Le-Koro. He was sensing something from Matau. Just then, Kongu burst through the hut door.
"Lewa. Lord Matau sent me to speak with you. You are needed in Le-Koro."
    "What is wrong?"
"I don't know, Matau wishes to see you though."
Lewa nodded. He turned to Vakama and the others.
"I'm sorry, but my Turaga calls. I must answer him."
Lewa exited the hut. He switched to his Kakama, grabbed Kongu, and charged toward his home.
    "I hope everything is okay."
"Don't worry, Gali. I sense no wrong in the area."
Tahu was growing impatient. There had been too many distractions. Mahi was also sitting with him, wanting to know more. Vakama cleared his throat and continued to read.
"There is something written about four figures who will come after Makuta. They will be lead by he who wears the Skull Hau. The rest of the text is worn away. There is only this."
He turned the book to show Gali and Tahu. On it was three Centaurs, and what looked like four Turaga. There was a large Hau shaped mask above them.
"There is only one other thing I can see. There are parts of the initial prophecies missing. There is a lost village. Pa-Tahi. Find it and you will find your answers."
Tahu looked confused. Gali nodded silently. Mahi just went blank.
"That's all I can say. I can't find anymore in the books. I'm sorry."
Tahu and Gali left the hut. Mahi close behind.
"You guys wait... I want to help! C'mon! I'm very advanced as far as technology is concerned. I've built all kinds of things."
Tahu shook his head, and looked to Gali. She was nodding.
    "We might as well."
Tahu handed him the pack containing the masks of their fallen allies.
"Fine. But you carry the load! Let's go find Pa-Tahi!"

Chapter 14:
-----------------
Lewa entered Le-Koro with a slight nervousness. The village was eerily silent. Normally the citizens were up late partying to the music of the bands. Even the Kahu birds were nowhere to be seen.
"This way, Lewa. Matau is in his hut."
Lewa entered. There was Matau, sitting in his thrown. Next to him was a small Turaga wearing what looked like a red Miru. Lewa scratched his head.
"Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tikanga. My master has sent me to aide you in a most interesting developement."
Lewa sat. Something in this Turaga's eyes seemed to comfort him... even though he knew something wasn't right about his presence.
"Lewa. Tikanga here has been warning us of movements in Onu-Koro. They are planning on attack us."
    "Why?"
Tikanga answered, his eyes glowing brightly.
"Onua and Whenua have been eyeing your little piece of property for quite some time. You see, they are tired of mining for protodermis. Instead they would rather take Le-Koro, and have a vantage point from which they could attack the other villages. You see, they are preparing an invasion of Mata-Nui. They want the land above ground as well as below."
Lewa shook his head. He was right! Lewa had never trusted Onua. Every time that either of the Onu-Korans had visited, they seemed to interested in searching every part of the town. And from up here, the Kahu birds could easily attack any village.
"Matau, we must not allow the Onu-Korans to take our land!"
"You are correct Lewa, but we are not preparred for war."
Tikanga laughed. Slowly he waved his cane, it lit up, and in walked a large group of troops. They were black in color, and wore various purple masks. They looked almost like Onu-Korans... but no. Looking at Tikanga, Lewa knew that they were here to help. The soldiers were massive, and only a few actually entered the hut. The rest remained outside, flexing their brawn to any Tohunga that may come to close.
"I like those soldiers, Tikanga. Are you sure they can help?"
"Oh, of course. They are great fighters. My second in command here single-handedly took out a herd of Muaka."
"Amazing! Tikanga, we would be honored to accept your aide in the upcoming battle."
Matau extended his hand to Tikanga, who shook it excitedly.
"You won't be disappointed, Matau. I promise."
He snapped his fingers, and the massive soldiers, along with their general, exited Matau's hut.

Once he was sure he was out of sight, Tikanga shook his head. It had been far too easy to persuade the Le-Korans.
"Whenua and Onua had seemed more resistant then these two. Oh well. I guess the young truly are naive. This is going to be most excellent indeed. Soon, my master's plan will be complete. And the second phase of the invasion will be fulfilled!"
He waved his hand and the soldiers began to follow him into the tunnels that led to Ko-Koro.
"Come. War is at hand... and there is much to do before then!"

Chapter 15:
-----------------
"You did say he could come."
"But I said 'If he could keep up.' We could have made great time if we hadn't brought him along."
"Don't worry Tahu. He knows what he is getting into. But please. He's right. We have been going non-stop for so long. Can't we pause and have some kind of break?"
Tahu looked into Gali's eyes. She had always been the voice of reason. The only one that could cool his burning temper. He led the party over to a small oasis. He had seen it before. It was were he had found his Kaukau. This would be a great spot to stop and rest their feet. Mahi, feeling hot and stressed, instantly took comfort in the cool waters. Tahu, who unlike the others loved the heat, decided he would sunbathe while the rest regained their strength.
"Kopaka... how did you ever put up with Mahi. I guess you were more compassionate than you let on."
They had been searching for Pa-Tahi. Vakama's charts and legends all pointed to the centermost region of the Po-Wahi landscape. The terrain was harsh, and sandstorms blew constantly. Not a single Mata-Nuian had ever traveled across it, and lived. According to the legends Vakama had spoke of, Pa-Tahi had been an ancient city that was ravaged when Makuta arrived on Mata-Nui. It was believed the Pa-Tahi (and Makuta's arrival for that matter) had been around since before any other village. What was there, nobody knew.
"I hope you are right, old man."
Tahu looked up into the sky. It was odd. For some reason, small clouds were forming in the skies above.
"Gali. Might want to find shelter. There seems to be some peculiar weather blowing in."
Tahu looked closer into the storm... and saw the massive array of claws, mandibles, and stingers. It was something far worse than a storm...

..it was a swarm of angry Rapoi.

Chapter 16:
-----------------
Tahu looked about him. Gali and Mahi had both seen it as well. Mahi was running for cover, but Gali had her Pakari. Tahu agreed. He would need massive amounts of strength to hold of these monsters.
    "Ready, Gali? Let's go!"
Tahu charged into the head of the swarm, swinging his sword before it could even heat up. The Rapoi fell all around him. To his left he could hear Gali's hooks, swinging almost as fast as lightning. Something didn't seem right about the swarm though.
"Tahu! They're trying to get by us!"
Tahu looked to see the insects flocking to the area in which Mahi had ducked under. The Tohunga was desperately trying to shoot them down with his disk.
    "Get them off of me!!"
Another Rapoi swooped down, this time grabbing ahold of the pack of masks.
"Of course!" Tahu exclaimed. "Gali! We must protect the masks! That's what they want!"
Tahu made a dive for the lead Rapoi, but it had already gotten to high.
    "No!"
Before he could even think of swapping masks, Tahu saw a disc whiz across the air and knock the pack back to the groud. He turned to see Mahi, twirling a second Tohunga Disc on his right hand.
"And I did it with my bad hand!"
The pack hit hard, sending the masks sprawling across the sands. The two Toa and the lone Tohunga made a dive for them, trying to prevent the swarm from overtaking their bounty. Mahi got there first. Quickly he began to stuff them in. But the pack had been damaged, and all but one could fit.
    "Oh great. Tahu! Take it!"
Before Mahi could hand the Matatu to the Toa, a lone Rapoi swooped in. Mahi pulled his hand back, but the claw raked across it hard.
    "AHH!"
Mahi's hand opened, the mask tumbled to the ground. A second Rapoi hit Mahi from behind, tipping him over. Tahu was being restrained by a large number of Rapoi, and Gali too could not get to the fallen Tohunga.
"It can't end like this. I can't let it."
Mahi struggled to reach for the mask. It was so close. The lead Rapoi landed, and turned his eyes to the Tohunga. What looked to be a smirk spread across its face. Slowly, it paced toward the Matatu.
"I won't let you get it!"
With his last ounce of strength, Mahi pushed himself forward, his face fell, and landed directly into the mask. There was a brief moment in which time seemed to stop. But in that moment, Tahu could swear he was seeing light from the mask flow into Mahi's body...

Chapter 17:
-----------------
Tahu stared in awe at Mahi.  The sheer power he felt coming from the mask was unbelievable.  The Rapoi seemed to pause in the air around the cocoon of energy.
    "Mahi!"
Gali ran to the Tohunga.  But she couldn't get to the small Mata-Nuian.  The energy was creating a strong wind that blew everything away.  Tahu gabbed Gali as the Toa was almost flung away.
"Hang on!  I don't know what's going to happen, but I ain't losing you!"
The Rapoi were struggling against the current.  A few lost their grip and were launched over the horizon.  The wind settled down, leaving the group in a clear field.  The Rapoi were all circled around.  Just waiting for an opportunity to strike.  Tahu could see a body laying in the sand.  It appeared to be moving.
"Mahi?  Are you alright?  What happened?"
Before anyone could say another word, the Rapoi swarmed again.  Tahu and Gali split up and began to swing away with every ounce of strength.
"Gali, get to Mahi!  We need to get him and those masks out of here now!"
Gali took a swing at the Rapoi in her way.
    "C'mon!  You want some?"
She switched to her Kakama and began to blast away at them.  Her lightning fast reflexes imporved upon by the Mask of Speed.  She heard a rumbling behind her, and turned in time to see a larger insect claw her from behind.
    "Ahhh!  Tahu!"
The giant insect swung it's claws again.  It appeared to be a much larger Rapoi... with double the claw and half the manners.
    "Can't hold it off!  Tahu!"
Tahu tried to get to Gali, but the addition of this new insect only seemed to increase the morality of the Rapoi.  He could see the claws attacking Gali, but there was nothing he could do.  His bio-fluids began to boil as he saw the poor Toa being hacked at by the massive bug.
    "Gali!"
Before he could act, a blast of energy ripped into the insect, sending it flying into a rock wall.  It shook itself off and roared.
    "WHO DARE ATTACK ME?"
From across the battlefield, all eyes turned to the Turaga shaped figure standing where Mahi once rested.
    "I do." It yelled nobely.
The Turaga raised his weapon.  It appeared to be a drill with a large laser site on it.  The Turaga was short, but he looked tough.  On his back was a strange v-shaped object.
    "Mahi, is that you?"
    The Turaga shook his head.
"I am Mahi no longer.  I am Mihini, Turaga of Pa-Tahi!"

Chapter 18:
-----------------
The oversized Rapoi glared across the field at Mihini.
"Who do you think you are anyway? I am Rapoi! I am Pesitilence!"
Mihini drew his weapon and aimed at the Rapoi. It was then that Tahu noticed the mask. It was new. Not the original Matatu. Instead of the pointy mask, the new one was rounded. The left eye hole allowed Mihini to see out, but the right eye was covered with what appeared to be a red light.
"What do you want, Peke? Huh! What's your plan?"
Tahu and Gali switched their gazes to the massive Rapoi. How could that be Peke? Peke was a Turaga... right?
    "Mihini, what can we do?"
"Take care of the Rapoi... Peke is mine!"
Tahu tried to stop Mihini... but the little Turaga was of like lightning. Energy blasted from his backpack, sending him into the air.
"You and me, Peke! We've got a score to settle!"
Peke charged after the flying Turaga. A swing of the claws almost made their mark, but Mihini fired off his pack and avoided the blow.
"You're slow Peke...what's the matter! Rusty after all these years?"
Tahu turned his attention away from the battle to finish off the remaining Rapoi, but without orders, they were a swarm without a way. The Rapoi had began to buzz around the battle, waiting for Peke to give them some sort of command. But the leader was too occupied with his battle to care.
"Hey. Gali, let's go get that guy!"
    "I'm with you, Tahu!"
Both Toa switched over to their Miru. In unison they took to the air after the giant insect.
"Three on one! No problem. I've fought many people at a time before."
The combined force of the Toa and Turaga raged at Peke... he was quick though, blocking many shots with his claws.
"I told you! The numbers are no matter to me!"
Mihini dodged quickly and came at Peke from behind. Peke turned to block the shot.
"You can't trick me, Mihini! I know every move in your book!"
"I bet you don't! Tahu, Gali! Now!"
Peke looked to find the Toa, but they had disappeared from view. Suddenly, both appeared from the sides. Tahu swung his sword, and Gali lashed at Peke with her hooks. The combined effort cut into Peke's wings.
    "Ahh! No!"
Peke spun wildly, and managed to stop for a moment, and ended up facing Mihini.
    "Hello Peke."
The Turaga aimed his weapon at Peke's face. With a mighty effort he blasted his weapon directly at Peke's eyes. The shot hit, and Peke was dropped to the ground. Tahu and Gali watched as it's form shifted, revealing the Peke they remembered. Laying at arm's length was his mask, Mihini's shot had knocked it off.
"Peke! You have been defeated. Return to your master and tell him what has happened here!"
Peke laughed, and reached for his mask. He wasn't quick enough. He was about to grab it when Tahu's sword flashed in front of him, cutting it in two. He looked up to see Tahu, with his Pakari, glaring down on him.
"I should kill you right here. You know that. You're lucky that I'm not like Kopaka was. If Mihini wants you alive, then you'll survive. But rest assured the next time we meet, you will not be able to retreat."
Peke pulled himself up. The Rapoi swarmed around him, picked him up, and carried off toward Mount Ihu. Mihini landed near Tahu and Gali. He fired his weapon at the mask pieces, they were incinerated instantly.
"His powers are gone. He's as usless to them as he was to us."
Tahu looked at Mihini. This guy had some explaining to do.
"Okay, Mihini. Talk. How do you know this guy?"
Mihini beckoned Gali over. He motioned for them to sit.
"I'll will tell you everything. There is more to this than what you know."

Chapter 19:
-----------------
Mihini stood in front of the Toa... pacing slowly back and forth.
"Tahu.  What do you know of Te Mutunga?"
"The end?  Well... the end comes for us all when we die... but..."
"No.  There is much more to it.  Te Mutunga is the one prophecy that has yet to come to pass.  All Turaga know of its existence, but all deny that it is true."
Both Toa tensed up.  What was this that the Turaga feared so deeply.
"Te Mutunga is not just any end... it is The Apocolypse.  The ultimate end for Mata-Nui."
Gali looked about until finally she pulled out a small slip of paper.  She offered it to Mihini.
"Vakama gave us this item.  What do you know of it?"
Mihini took the page in his hand.  He eyed it over slowly.  Something seemed to bother him.
"Yes.  This is them.  The Bringers of Te Mutunga."
Mihini turned the page so that the Toa could see.
"On the far left... the largest figure, that is Pakanga: The Rider of War.  The two Toa next to him are Uruta and Hiakai: Riders of Pestilence and Famine respectively.  Each of them has a Turaga.  This Turaga will be the one that will prepare Mata-Nui for their arrival.  Tikanga, Peke, and Tupuhi.  Peke is the Turaga of Uruta.  Tikanga and Tupuhi have not been detected yet."
"But who are the other two?  The Skull Hau and the figure below it, who are they?"
"The Skull Hau, nobody knows.  He is their leader, but his powers are unknown even to us.  But the Turaga...Kehua, he is the one you should fear the most.  For it is he who will bring his master back."
Tahu and Gali rose to their feet, Mihini turned and began to head toward a large sand drift.
"It is here.  That is why the Rapoi came.  We were too close to let them have it.  Come quickly!"
Mihini looked about, and quickly led the group to the face of the dune.  Tahu looked at is closely.  It was odd...
"It's not changing!  The wind is blowing, but not a single grain moves!"
"We had to protect it... for thousands of years this has laid dormant.  But now it is time to reveal it to you."
Mihini waved his staff in front of the face.  It slowly slid away to reveal a small hole.  Mihini stuck the weapon end of his staff into the hole and turned it.
"I am glad that the energy of my mask was able to lead you here.  Now I will show you."
As Mihini removed the key from the slot, the wall began to pull apart.  When it had finished, Mihini motioned for the Toa to follow.
"Come, there is much to tell and little time to do so."
Tahu and Gali cautiously follwed Mihini into the darkness.  Suddenly, the doors slid shut behind them, trapping the three in darkness.

Chapter 20:
-----------------
Tahu's sword emitted a small light as the three wondered down the spiral stairs.
"Mihini, where are you taking us?"
"Just keep going.  It isn't much further."
The three hit solid ground, the light from Tahu's blade was drowned out by a mysterious light coming from a tunnel ahead.
"Vakama sent us to find Pa-Tahi.  Here it is."
Walking toward the light revealed a large cavern.  Inside it rested the ruins of a city.  It looked like something massive had torn into it.  Nothing was standing save a Suva in the village square.
"What happened here?  This has to be bigger than Onu-Koro even.  What could destroy something this big?"
"Not what.  Who.  This was the first Tohungan settlement on Mata-Nui.  Many variety of beings lived here.  We were protected by two beings.  Khutalk and Rangi.  Khutalk ruled the animals, and represented nature.  Rangi was the guardian of the skies.  Together they watched over Pa-Tahi.  Until the Riders came."
    "The Dark Toa?"
"Yes.  They came at us without warning, raining death and destruction upon us.  Khutalk and Rangi fought nobely, but they paid the ultimate price.  They succeeded in sealing away the evil, but at the cost of their own lives.  Their last remaining energy was depleted in the fight, and the denizens of Pa-Tahi buried their bodies."
Mihini led the group to the Suva.  With a wave of his weapon the Suva opened.  The three stepped on, and were lowered into a second chamber.  On the back wall rested a small mount.  It was shaped much like the cylinder the Toa had arrived in.
"Is that where they are buried?"
"Only Rangi.  Khultak's people...the centaur's...buried him in a smaller shrine away from Pa-Tahi and unknown to anybody but themselves.  After Pa-Tahi was ravaged, the villagers split.  We didn't communicate."
Mihini approached the tomb slowly, bowing his head the entire way.
"Oh great Rangi.  I mean no disrespect being here.  We are in dire need.  The evil you had vowed to destroy has returned."
The Turaga turned and grabbed the satchel of masks from Tahu.  He dug through it and came up with the Akaku.  Tahu tried to grab it away, but Gali stopped him.
"If he needs it, it must be important.  Let it go, Tahu."
    "Alright.  But nothing funny."
Mihini placed his hand on the face of the tomb.  It slid back to reveal a Toa-face shaped mount.  Mihini placed the Akaku carfeully on top.
"Rangi, I summon thee!  Return!  I give you life!"
The Akaku began to emit a bright white light, before anybody could respond it was pulled into the tomb.  The ground rumbled as if a giant had fallen.  The tomb itself had began to give off the same light.
    "Mihini!  What's going on?"
The Turaga responded without moving his gaze away from the glowing tomb.
    "It's working.  Rangi is returning!"
In the next moment, an explosion filled the chamber.  Tahu and Gali shielded their eyes.  The light quickly faded, and the two found themselves looking at a short white figure.  In its hands were two small scythes, attached to its legs were another pair of hooks.  He wore the Akaku, and a mean red light shown underneathe.
    "Mihini...is that.."
"Yes, Tahu.  That is the great Rangi."

Chapter 21:
-----------------
Gali and Tahu couldn't believe their eyes.  All this time, there had been Toa before them?  What else had Vakama failed to tell him; what else was the Turaga hiding?  Tahu approached the new arrival, hand outstretched.
"My friend, my ally.  It is an honor to meet you."
As he drew closer, Tahu couldn't help but notice the Toa of Sky's lack of stature.  Rangi looked up at Tahu with determined eyes.
    "Are you Tahu?"
The voice was young.  Morso than Lewa even.  Gali and Tahu both cocked their heads a bit.
"What?  Shouldn't you be bowing at this time?  After all, I do predate you as protector of Mata-Nui."
Tahu's temper began to rise.  Gali sensed the heat and touched her partner's shoulder.  He instantly began to cool down.
"We're here to resurrect a hero.  Apparently we aren't there yet."
    "Tahu!"
Gali pushed Tahu aside and offered a hand to Rangi.  He shook it slowly.
"You're Gali aren't you?  I have this feeling like I know you."
Suddenly, the Akaku on Rangi's face lit up.  The new Toa fell to his knees in pain.
"AH!  It's all coming back!  No!"
"Rangi what is it!  Mihini, what's going on?"
Mihini stepped forward and placed his hand on the small Toa's back.  He patted it slowly and began to chant alongside him.
"It will be over soon Rangi.  The mask you were is that of another.  It is only trying to tell you all it knows.  Listen to it Rangi!"
The voice from the new Toa began to rise over Mihini's chanting.  Blended with it was that of Kopaka's.
"I have seen so much...felt so much pain...POHATU!  AH!"
Rangi fell to the floor.  The light from the Akaku faded, leaving Rangi gasping for air.
"The images.  They were so powerful.  I saw everything.  Uruta, Hiakai, Pakanga...the Hau.  There are four of them...but that's not all.  The Rapoi!  They took Ko-Koro!"
    Rangi's keeper comforted his Toa.
"You must rest.  You've been through a lot.  There are still more visions Rangi.  You have been asleep for a long time.  There is much you need to know."
As Tahu watched the new pairing begin meditating at the base of the shrine, he couldn't help but feel uneasy about their new teammate.  He was obviously not as strong as the Toa he had taken the place of, but was there something that Mihini knew that he had not told the Toa?

Chapter 22:
-----------------
The sun had begun fading as Tahu and his crew left the shrine.  It had taken some time for Rangi to recover his strength as Kopaka's memories returned to him.  There had been much, the Rapoi, more images of the riders.  Thanks to Rangi and Kopaka, the Toa now knew a slight bit of what they were up against.
"So Mihini.  Now that Rangi is awakened, where do we go to find Khultak?"
Rangi jumped to attention.  Suddnely he began to ramble off to Tahu and Gali.
"You're looking for Khultak?  I think I know where he may be.  We've always had a bond, him and I.  I think that..."
Gali laughed and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Slow down Rangi.  You know where Khultak is?"
"I think so.  As the Pa-Tahians were putting me to rest, I could feel his spirit calling out to me.  He's in the desert...somewhere near the ruins of the centaurs."
Tahu turned to Gali.  She shrugged.
    "I don't know the deserts.  That's really Pohatu's..."
There was an awkward silence.  Even Rangi, who hadn't known Pohatu until only a few moments ago, felt crushed by the Toa's death.  Tahu moved to comfort Gali.
"It's okay, Gali.  We will find who did this.  They will feel our vegence."
As Tahu finished speaking, a boom echoed through the canyon.
"That came from the swamps of Le-Koro!  Tahu, Lewa's there!"
The Toa of Fire had already began running toward the jungle region of Mata-Nui.
   "Hurry along...we mustn't dawdle."
Gali swtiched to the Kakama and offered to carry Mihini.  He walked towards Rangi, who let the Turaga on his shoulders.  In an instant, wings had sprouted from Rangi's back.  The new Toa switched to Kopa...his Kakama and took to the skies.
"This is going to be an interesting partnership."  Gali remarked to herself as she chased after her friends.
As comedic as that brief moment had been, Gali could not let anything distract her for whatever fight was occuring at Le-Koro.  They would have to hurry.

Chapter 23:
-----------------
The scene approaching Le-Koro was terrifying.  At the entrance to the swamp, Onu-Korans were tossing boulders and spears at the Le-Korans in the trees.  At the head of the group of Onu-Korans, Whenua shouted commands.
"Don't leave a single one standing!  We shall take this fort by day break!"
The Tohunga with him cheered.  Up above, Matau was attempting to rally his own troops.
"They are foolish if they think they can control the skies!  Air Guard, attack!"
Matau waved his hand, bringing forth a barrage of winged attackers.  Kongu and his Kahu lead the pack, with the trusted second shotting Discs into the mess of Onu-Korans below.
"Tahu.  We must put a stop to this at once."
Rangi and Mihini rocketed passed the two Toa and toward the fray.
"Rangi!  Wait!  You don't know what you're getting into!"
"I'll be fine, Tahu!  I've fought against the Riders remember?  This shouldn't be a...AH!"
Rangi and his Turaga were flung to the ground as a massive axe cut into them.  The two rolled over to see Lewa staring down at them.
"You dare to battle along the enemy!  Traitor!"
Lewa took another swing with his axe.  Rangi rolled out of the way.  The blade slammed down hard on the ground next to him.
"Good thing I brough these along!"
Rangi drew his scythes and caught the axe on the next swing.  The two stood temporarily deadlocked.  From beind, a second figure approached.  It lunged for Lewa.
    "Lewa!  Watch out!"
Gali dove for the figure, Pakari at full strength.  She collided, and both fell to the ground.  The figure rose...the faint light shining down on him.
"How dare you protect this fiend!  I thought we were allies Gali!"
Onua towered over the grounded Gali.  She moved to get up, but he managed to slam his heavy feet on her back.
"I shall make you regret your erreant ways.  It is too bad we are no longer friends."
Gali's screams of pain refused to sit in Tahu's stomach.  With a roar he charged headlong into battle.  Suddenly he stopped, realizing the scene for the first time.  To his left was Lewa and Rangi...deadlocked.  To his right was Gali in near danger.  Onua looked ready to crush her at any moment.  Lewa and Onua laughed at the same time, but Lewa spoke first.
"You're going to have to choose Tahu.  Whose side are you on."
Tahu paused for only a moment longer.
"Okay, Rangi," he thought to himself.  "Let's see what you're made of."
Tahu charged again, this time aiming straight between Lewa and Onua.  His sword slashed through the middle of a tree, shattering it to pieces.  Lewa and Onua both looked to Tahu, ready for his next move.  What they forgot about was the two Toa with them already.
   "Heyah!"
With a flash of speed, Rangi flipped back on his hands.  As he brought his feet up and over, he flipped up his second set of hooks.  They caught Lewa across the mask, ripping it from his face.
   "I'm sorry, Onua."
Gali quickly switched to her Pakari and with a mighty effort, hefted the stunned Toa above her head.  With a final effort, she flung Onua into a clearing in the trees.  The Toa of Earth hit the ground hard, his mask falling from his face.  He sat stunned in the sunlight, unable to see.
"My eyes!  It burns!  Help me, Wheuna..."
Gali, Tahu, and Rangi gathered between the massive armies.  They were not accepted on either side.
   "Make way!"
There was a pause in action as a small Turaga made his way to the three Toa in the middle.  Whenua and Matau took the opprotunity to get the Kanohi back to their Toa.  With the new Turaga, a massive number of large Tohungan figures had arrived.  Each one looked like they belonged to either Onu-Koro or Le-Koro.  Tahu distinctly saw Onepu in one of the creatures.
"Hello, Tahu.  Pleasure to meet you at last."
The Turaga looked at Rangi.  His eyes widened.
"If it isn't Rangi, Toa of the Skies!  It's an honor to final see you in person."
Rangi's eyes narrowed.  His face become cold.
"What do you want Tikanga?  I know you're not here because you want to be."
"Of course not.  I'm here with these troops" he gestured towards the creatures he had brought.  "To offer assistance to my client."
   Onua rose to his feet.
"Do you see, Lewa?  With the aid of our ally Tikanga, we will crush you and stop this uprising."
   Lewa only laughed.
"You truly are a muscle brain Onua.  Tikana is here for me.  Him and I have met many times these last few days."
Mihini had joined Rangi and the other two Toa in the center.  He nudged Tahu.
"I don't like this.  Tikanaga's playing them both."
Onua and Lewa gathered around Tikanga/
"Whose side are you on, Turaga?"
"Yes.  Who are you fighting for?"
Tikanga pushed Lewa and Onua aside and strolled over to his warriors.  He patted one on the arm.
"Kill them my PakiPaki."  he said, pointing towards the Toa.  "Kill them all."

Chapter 24:
-----------------
"Kill them all!"

Tikanga's command filled the open swamp. The PakiPaki flexed their muscles, and in a single unified movement began to approach the Toa. Lewa shook his head. It all began to come back to him. He had been tricked. He had allowed Tikanga to gain control of him and his people. He could see Onua coming to that realization as well. He two Toa met eyes...and suddenly Lewa remember everything.

"Onua! What have we done?"

"I do not know, friend. But we must put that aside. We have a common enemy, and that is all that matters now!"

Lewa nodded. He lowered his axe and assumed a fighting stance. To his sides, he could see his fellow Toa getting ready as well.

"Turaga, get the Tohunga out of here! This isn't going to be safe for anyone!"

Matau and Whenua had come to their senses as well, whatever had been effecting them wasn't working anymore. Mihini joined the two Turaga, and together the three began to lead the dazed Tohunga to cover.

"Do you really think that you'll be able to save any of them? If I really wanted to...I could just turn you against them again, Lewa. But I don't need you anymore. That part of the plan is complete. I will bid you adieu. It is unfortuneate that we will not meet again."

The Turaga turned his back to the Toa, and in an instant had vanished, leaving a horde of PakiPaki behind him.

“Alright, Toa. We fight!"

Tahu charged forward at the lead PakiPaki. With a might swing he struck the head. The creature stopped for a moment, and then promptly drove his fist into Tahu's stomach. The Toa of Fire was sent into the air, and landed with a thud against the base of a nearby tree.

"Tahu!" Gali ran to his side, and slowly helped him to his feet.

"They're strong. Whoever has a Pakari, I suggest you activate it now."

The four other Toa turned back to the PakiPaki. In a flash of colored lights, their masks shifted to the mighty Pakari.

"Let's see how well you balance!" Onua shouted, stomping his foot against the ground. His expierience with the Pakari had led him to develope this powerful technique. The ground split, and a few of the warriors fell to their knees.

"It shook em up. But we can't end this from a distance. Rangi, Lewa...airstrike!"

"Right, Tahu!" The Toa of Air shifted to his Miru and lifted into the sky. Rangi simply jumped up and took to the air. The two spun together, and the stopped...touching their weapons together. A massive gale of wind blasted forth, managing to lift the PakiPaki off the ground.

"Onua, we've got them stunned!"

"Hold em steady! Ready, Tahu!"

Tahu nodded and aimed his FireSword at the hoarde. The blade began to glow a bright red...the other Toa could see the heat vapors coming from its tip.

"Time to turn up the heat!"

Tahu blasted a ring of fire into the whirlwind. From inside the storm, the PakiPaki could be heard crying out in pain. Onua rushed forward.

"Now I'll show you what a real ground attack is!"

Onua shifted to his Kakama, and with a burst of speed rushed at the swirling mass. Just as he was about to make contact, Onua activated his Pakari and turned it up to full. With a tremendous clash, both the Toa of Earth and the PakiPaki were sent sprawling to the gound. The opponents stayed down, for a few seconds, and then quickly rose to their feet. They looked angry, and had set a beeline for Onua. Onua could here the cries of the Toa behind him...but it wasn't in time to avoid one of the PakiPaki that had landed behind him.

"Destroy!"

Onua felt an elbow getting driven into his back. His knees buckled, and he fell helplessly to the ground. There was a swift kick planted into his side, spinning him onto his back. The Pakari was trying to energize him, but he had taken a tremendous toll from the charge attack.

"How does it feel, Onua? Knowing that the one thing you've been sworn to protect is the one thing that will destroy you?"

Onua looked past the PakiPaki and saw his friends fending off the other troops as best as they could. Even the strength of the Pakari wasn't enough to land a damaging blow to the PakiPaki soldiers. Onua looked up into the face of his attacker.

"It can't be!"

"Don't be so shocked, Onua. After all...you and Whenua did select me to train under Tikanga. I really should thank you."

Onua lay in shock as he realized who he was talking to. The PakiPaki was wearing a mangled purple Pakari...a mask that belonged to only one person: the Tohunga Onepu.

Chapter 25:
-----------------
"Onepu?"

Onua stared deep into the eyes of the PakiPaki. Something inside of there was familiar to him.

"Of course, Onua. How could you forget so soon? You sent me away to train with Tikanga! And now look at what I have become. I'm even stronger then you, Toa of Earth!"

Onepu threw a punch toward Onua, but the Toa was able to roll and avoid it. The pain in his back returned, but fortuneatly the Pakari had begun to regenerate power. In anger, Onua slammed his fists into the ground.

"How could I have been so foolish! I let that cursed Turaga get the best of me!"

Onepu laughed at his former ally. He strolled over to the fallen Toa and picked him up with one hand.

"Face it, Onua. Your a has-been. Look over there..."

The solider turned Onua to face his friends. Each one had been overtaken by the opposing PakiPaki. Gali lay on the ground, struggling to get to Tahu. Their leader was sitting up right, but breathing heavily. Both Lewa and Rangi lay crumpled up next to each other on the ground. The PakiPaki only stood over them.

"All it takes is one word. One command and they'll finish them off. How does it feel, Onua? How does it feel to lose?"

The rage inside Onua began to build. Always the gentle giant, Onua generally refused to let himself get emotional. But even the great Toa of Earth had his limits. He had let down his people, his friends, and himself.

But all that was about to change.

"I will NEVER give up, Onepu!"

With a cry that could've been pain or anger...Onua swung his claws at Onepu. The Pakari glowed a dark black, matching the glow from his weapons. He made contact, and he made it hard. With a sickening thud, Onua's claws caught the side of Onepu's face, and brought him to the earth. Onua landed on both feet, and let out another yell.

"There's one thing you don't know about me Onepu! One thing NOBODY knows! And that is you NEVER make me angry!"

The light from Onua got darker. All of Onua gave off the same black light that had come from his mask and weapons. As the light grew brighter, chunks of earth cracked and lifted into the air. They swirled around the Toa, slowly being broken off by the force.

"What are you doing, Onua! Stop this at once! Get him PakiPaki!"

The remaining PakiPaki left the other Toa where they lay, and made a lunge for Onua. The Toa swung his claw, and one the floating chunks of rock was hurled forward. It struck the PakiPaki, dropping them immediately. Onua slowly began to pace forward. As he passed Onepu, the solider attempted to attack him. In a swift motion, Onua elbowed Onepu into the ground and then proceeded to kick him into the air. It didn't look as though he had hit him hard, but Onepu was launched back through many trees. He came to rest nearly 50 feet from where he had left the ground.

"Now for you."

Onua picked up two of the PakiPaki. One in each hand. With an angered yell, the Toa slammed them together with amazing force. There was a loud crack as the two Masks broke apart, and Onua casually tossed them aside. Before the other PakiPaki could move, Onua repeated the same manuever.

"Onepu! Where did you run to coward!"

A quick search of the surroundings proved fruitless, the former Tohunga had escaped. Gali, having been able to somewhat recover, managed to walk towards Onua. But before she could reach him, the glow faded, and Onua fell to the ground.

"Onua! Are you alright?" Gali rested his head in her arm.

"I've been better...Gali...are they..."

"Yes, Onua. You did good." Her expression changed to confusion. "Onua, what just happened to you? Just then?"

The Toa slowly shook his head. "I don't know, Gali. I don't know."

Chapter 26:
-----------------
Uruta paced nervously across the floor the main chamber. His tail flipped about rythmically, his scythe kept the beat as it bounced up and down on his back.

"Where is Peke? It has been hours since I sent him out."

Pakanga, who had looking over maps of Mata-Nui most of the day, rose from his seat and walked alongside his ally.

"I keep telling you, Uruta. You must not go out to battle without a strategy. Look at Hiakai and I. He shall be attacking Ga-Koro shortly. We've already taken Mt. Ihu thanks to you. And Tikanga has reported back saying our plan for Le- and Onu-Koro is meeting with quite some success. By this time tomorrow we shall control not only the sky, but the land and sea as well."

Pakanga was about to continue his bragging, but a loud banging outside caught his attention.

"Stay here, Uruta. I'll go check it out."

The Toa of War picked up his broad sword and stepped out the chamber door. What he saw shocked him.

"You LEFT me there! You coward!"

Onepu had Tikanga up against the wall. Tikanga cried out as Onepu tighted his grip on the Turaga's throat. Bewteen gasps, Tikanga tried to reason with him. Furious, Pakanga ripped the two apart from each other.

"What is this? Why are two of my servents fighting each other?"

Tikanga fell to one knee, bowing before his master.

"Master, Onepu reports that his army has been wiped out by the Toa."

"WHAT! You FAILED me?"

Onepu also fell to his knees. The fear coming form both was tangible.

"My lord, something happened...I can't explain...but Onua...he..."

There was a loud crash as Pakanga drove his sword into the ground between the two. He picked up Tikanga by the collar.

"You said the attack was successful, Tikanga! This isn't successful! Half my army is DEAD!"

Uruta, his curious peaked, chanced a look into the room.

"Pakanga. What is going on."

The Toa turned to face his ally. His mask was glowing a bright red. Uruta knew what that meant. Pakanga's Kanohi turned his anger into strength, and from the looks of things it was currently working overtime.

"GET OUT OF HERE! I AM HANDLING THIS, URUTA!"

The Toa of Pestilence nodded, and quickly backed out, closing the door behind him. Pakanga turned back to Tikanga.

"Why wasn't I informed of this, Tikanga?"

Tikanga opened his mouth...but could only stammer a response.

"I....I...c-c-c....couldn't...."

Onepu smirked and looked to the Turaga. He began to speak slowly and calmly.

"Tell him, Tikanaga. Tell him that you left us to fight. If you wouldv'e been there, you could've given us more strength."

Pakanga's eyes narrowed. Slowly, he pulled Tikanga closer face to face. The small Turaga could feel the Toa's hot breath in his face. Tikanga lowered his eyes to the ground.

"Look me in the EYES, Turaga! IS THIS TRUE?"

Tikanga slowly nodded. With a yell, Pakanga threw his Turaga against the wall of the chamber. With a quick motion, Pakanga drew his sword and held it to Tikanga's chest.

"How DARE you! NEVER leave your troops to fight alone!"

Tikanga pulled himself closer against the wall, trying to avoid the point of the flaming blade.

"But, master....and what of Onepu? He retreated! He ran from the fight!"

Pakanga glanced over his shoulded at Onepu. He smiled and returned his gaze to Tikanga.

"It take a good solider to know when he is defeated. And had he died, we wouldn't have known how the Toa were stronger enough to defeat the PakiPaki. You on the other hand were sloppy. A true general does not leave his troops side until the bitter end."

"But...but...master...I was certain the PakiPaki were stronger enough! How could I have known that Onua could...ACK!"

Pakana touched the point of his blade to Tikanga's chest. He twisted it slowly, making sure to just barely scratch him.

"Then you went into battle unpreparred. Is that supposed to make you look any better?"

Tikanga brought his hands together, pleading for his master's forgiveness.

"Give me a chance. Knowing what I know now...I won't fail you."

Pakanga looked deeply into Tikanga's eyes. His mask's glow began to fade. He pulled the blade away from Tikanga...and helped him to his feet. He turned his back to his Turaga and began to walk toward Onepu.

"You're right. Knowing what we know now, there's no way we can be beaten again."

Tikanga ran up to his master's side. He began to grovel like the best of them.

"Thank you master. Your forgiveness is your greatest gift."

Pakanga stopped. Without warning, he swung his sword behind his back, catching Tikanga right through the chest. Onepu's eyes went wide as he watched Pakanga bring the screaming Tikanga around to face him.

"I never said I forgave you, Tikanga. You've proven to me you are not a worthy ally. And if you aren't a worthy ally...you aren't needed."

With his other hand, Pakanga grabbed Tikanga's mask and ripped it off his face. The screaming Turaga slowly began to quiet, and soon was no longer moving. Pakanga swung his blade again, and the lifeless body flew off and crashed into the wall.

"Onepu."

"Yes, master." The ex-Tohunga now feared for his life.

Without a word, Pakanga tossed Onepu the Kanohi from Tikanga. Pakanga turned and headed for the main chamber. Onepu could already feel the power from the mask entering his body, even without putting it on.

"Put this on and come with me. You've just been promoted."

With one last look at Tikanga's body, Onepu placed the Kanohi on his face and ran after his master.

Chapter 27:
-----------------
Onua woke in a small hut. Gali was sitting next to him while Rangi looked on from the far wall. Outside, Tahu and Lewa could be heard sparring.

"Gali...how long was I out for?"

The Toa of Water rubbed his forehead gently. She laughed a bit.

"You've been resting for a six hours. We've been taking turns watching over you. You gave us quite a scare Onua."

Rangi ran out the door and could be heard talking to the others. Within moments, Lewa, Tahu, Rangi, and the Turaga were inside the hut. Onua managed to sit up in his bed. He still felt dizzy from the battle.

"That was a great show you put on out there Onua." Tahu slapped Onua on the back. "Those PakiPaki didn't even know what hit'em."

Onua remembered back to the battle. There were the PakiPaki, and there was one in particular that had been important...

"Onepu? Did you find Onepu?"

Lewa and Rangi looked to the ground. Tahu and Gali looked to each other. Neither wanted to say a word. It was Gali that finally spoke.

"Onepu escaped. We tried to go after him, but the PakiPaki roughed us up pretty bad. I'm sorry, Onua."

The big Toa shook his head. They had Onepu, and there was nothing Onua could think of to get him back.

"Onua...I don't know how to ask this..."

Tahu paused, trying to carefully choose his words. Onua knew the question.

"What happened to me against the PakiPaki? I told you already I don't know. There was this rage inside of me, this massive anger. Even though I tried to hold it back, part of me realized it was the only way to save us all."

Whenua had been listening quietly, but finally decided to speak up.

"I believe I may know some of the answer. Back before Makuta was defeated, the Turaga held a gathering. It was there that we shared what little pieces of information we had discovered at the time. Vakama seemed quite interested in a particular legend."

Whenua, knowing it would be a long story, took a seat at the foot of Onua's bed.

"The information was scarce, but there was support. It said that if the Toa could be become in tune with their element, they would unlock a force much stronger than that which they had now. We were confused as to what this meant. Originally, we thought it was talking about the techniques you used against Makuta. How each one of you was able to conjure an attack based solely on your elemental power. And when you became the Toa Kaita, we thought the transformation was that new force."

Mihini walked over to Whenua and said something. The Turaga nodded and hopped down from the bed. Mihini got up in his place.

"I know what Whenua is saying, and I do believe I have an understanding of this more. Onua, you said that before it happened, you were more angry than you had even been before. Is that correct?"

"Yes. But I don't understand, Tahu's hot temper..." He looked to the Toa of Fire. Tahu's eyes narrowed, but then he smilied. "Tahu's easily angered, but he's never done anything like this before."

"I don't believe it's only anger that did this. You said that the other Toa were being beaten, and that you felt you had let Onepu down because he had been taken. I believe that this transformation, whatever it may be, was triggered by this need."

Before he could continue, a loud horn blew. Matau and Lewa ran out the door of the hut. The other Toa followed, and watched as a lone Kahu bird landed. One his back was a badly beaten Tohunga. The poor inhabitant looked so frail and thin. He stumbled over to Gali.

"Ga...Koro..."

The Tohunga fell lifeless into Gali's arms. The Toa of Water cried out, tears rolled down her face. She looked to Tahu.

"We must go. My people need me."

Matau snapped his fingers, and a flock of Kahu landed on the village sqaure. Each of the Toa climbed on and in an instant were off, leaving the Turaga behind.

"What could have done this, Mihini?"

The Turaga of Skies kneeled over the fallen Tohunga. He placed a hand on the frail body, and said a few words of prayer.

"I haven't seen this kind of thing since the Ancient times, but I am certain it is the work of the Turaga Tupuhi."

Chapter 28:
-----------------
As the Kahu approached Ga-Koro...Gali let out a cry of sorrow. Smoke from numerous fires could be scene ravaging the once peaceful village. Gali kicked her Kahu's side.

"Faster! We must get there faster!"

Gali felt someone grab her and lift her off the Kahu. She looked up to see Rangi (with the Kakama) carrying her. In a split second, Gali was standing in the former town center. Instinctively, she ran to Nokama's hut.

"Nokama! Are you here? Can you speak to me?"

She heard the other Kahu birds land, and was joined by her fellow Toa. They began to help her dig through the rubble, until two figures were revealed.

"Hahli, Nokama!"

Gali lifted up her Turaga, Rangi grabbed the small Tohunga. They were both still alive, but were breathing hard. Gali turned to the other three Toa.

"You. Keep guard outside!"

Tahu nodded, knowing that Gali was not in the mood to argue. Quickly, the three Toa stepped outside. Rangi and Gali stayed with the Ga-Korans.

"What happened here, Nokama? Who did this?"

The Turaga coughed, and struggled to speak.

"Turaga...a Turaga came. There were these dog like monsters...they started attacking the crops. We tried to fight back....too strong."

Rangi tapped Gali on the shoulder.

"Hahli doesn't look to good. There's no cuts or anything...whatever did this just drained them."

Gali nodded her head. Nokama was the same way.

"Who was it? This Turaga that drained you all. What was its name!"

"I didn't get a good look. When the attack began...Hahli and Maku got me in here. They tried to protect me...oh Maku! The other villagers..I don't even know where they are!"

Gali looked around the room. Shen then motioned to Rangi.

"Listen, we need to get this two to safety. I think I may know where the others are."

Gali and Rangi were ready to leave, when Tahu's voice could be heard outside.

"Gali, Rangi...come at once!"

The two Toa, still carrying the Ga-Korans, exited the hut. Out across the water, a large swarm of creatures had appeared. At the front was a small Turaga. Nokama let out a cry.

"That's them...they're back."

Rangi's eyes narrowed...his Akaku slightly glowed.

"Kopaka faced these beasts. They were called...Mangai!"

Chapter 29:
----------------
The desert winds blew hard as Peke dragged himself through the sands. He didn't remember who long he'd been wandering, and he didn't know where he was going. Not only had he been defeated, but he had allowed Mihini to be awakened. By now he was certain Rangi has also been discovered.

"My lord...Uruta! Forgive me!"

The howling winds muffled his cry quickly. He was alone, and it was best that way. Surely, Uruta would destroy him the moment he returned. The Riders were not fond of being let down, and that's exactly what Peke had done.

"I'm useless. I don't even know why I continue."

The Turaga of Pestilence looked at his broken mask for what must have been the dozenth time. He wished it would work now, and cursed it for failing him.

"How can I call myself a Turaga! I couldn't keep the legend of a rock!"

With a cry, Peke flung half of his mask into the sands. To his surprise, it struck something solid...creating a loud echoing "thunk."

"That's not right...there wouldn't be anything out here."

His curiousity got the best of him, and with the remaining bits of energy he pushed himself toward where his mask had landed. Feeling the ground with his hands, he found it.

"By Makuta....what is this?"

The ground's surface changed. Peke felt only a smooth glassy surface below him. With all this wind, surely the sand had been cleared away. The Turaga pounded the surface, overjoyed at the echoing sound.

"It can't be! Could I have found his Suva?"

Peke quickly began to push sand away from the surface, searching for the one sign he was looking for. Suddenly, his hand slipped on the surface and found a deep groove.

"Yes! It is!"

His energy returning to him, Peke began to feel out the different grooves. In his mind he could picture the shape they formed. He had found it.

"The Pa-Tahian Suva! This will surely please Uruta!"

Happily, Peke jammed half of his broken mask into the grooves, readying a marker so that he could return. In his excitement, he failed to see the glow that his action had started.

"I must return at once. Oh a Rapoi would make this trip so much quicker!"

Peke had taken three steps away from the Suva when a strong energy pulled him to the ground.

"Halt, creature! Who seeks my services?"

The Turaga froze. Thinking quickly, he began to speak.

"It is I, Peke. I have come to awaken you."

From the surface of the Suva, a figure began to take form. Two legs stepped out, followed by two more. The being was a centaur, and in his hand he held a long ivory blade. Peke recognized him at once.

"Peke...that name is familiar. But, it was not always your name was it?"

Peke was shocked. He had not gone by any other name in so long, how could even this being know that name?

"Yes, noble Toa. I believe you may know me."

His brain searching for ideas, Peke took the first lead he could think of.

"The Riders have returned mighty Toa. They have begun to take the villages."

The figure lowered its head, and brought its face down to meet eye to eye with Peke.

"What of the other Toa? Were they not able to fight back?"

Peke though even faster, this warrior was wise...but he had been asleep for a long time. If his plan was to work, he would need to be VERY convincing.

"The Toa...they, they have begun to fall. One by one! Those that remain have lost the will to fight."

The centaur looked surpised, but Peke believed that the plan had worked.

"That is unfortuneate. Peke, I have slept long...and I am not complete. I will help you, but I need all that I had when I last battled The Riders."

Peke nodded, he knew exactly what the Toa was talking about.

"Of course, Master Khultak. I shall help you find your Kanohi."

Chapter 30:
----------------
Gali looked at the weakened Nokama in her arms. The Turaga didn't have much time, and if she couldn't get her to safety...well who knows what would happen. Without thinking, Gali placed her Turaga safely onto the back of the nearest Kahu bird. Hahli stood beside her. In a quick motion, Gali scooped up the Tohunga and dropped her onto the bird as well.

"Quickly, get her to the Le-Koro at once!"

Hahli nodded, understanding her orders. She pulled on the reins of the Kahu, and it spread its wings. Gali ran to the side of her companions, as the bird soared off into the distance.

"Okay, Rangi. What can you tell us about the Mangai?"

Rangi closed his eyes, the Akaku glowed slighty.

"It's a bit cloudy, Tahu. But I can see a few things. They attack in groups...possibly three. They most often will use their jaws to attack, but sometimes they'll use that tail of theirs."

Tahu nodded and turned his attention back to the approaching beasts. He motioned to Lewa and Rangi first.

"I want you two to go up. Come around from the sides and attack from above. Onua, dig under. If you move fast enough you can get below and possibly take the earth out from under them. When I give the command, go to your Pakari's and attack."

Tahu met eyes with Gali. He had a plan...but from the look on her face, she had one of her own.

"Gali. You've always been the cool headed one around here. We can't have you losing it now."

She nodded slowly, and began to back towards the water.

"I've got an idea Tahu, do you trust me?"

The Toa of Fire placed a hand on her shoulder. He smiled a bit.

"I always have."

They stood with their eyes locked for a brief moment. Then Gali pulled away and dove into the depths of the sea.

"Alright Toa. We fight!"

Lewa and Rangi took off into the sky. Onua switched to his Kakama and dove into the soft sand of the beach. Tahu was left standing alone. With a yell, he lowered his shoulder and charged for the nearest Mangai.

"FEED! WE MUST FEED!"

As he charged, Tahu looked to see Rangi and Lewa closing in. Benethe his feet, Tahu could feel Onua's movements. Just as he approached the lead Mangai, he let out his command.

"Attack now!"

As his Kanohi shifted to the mighty Pakari, Tahu planted his lead foot. With all his strength, he thrusted his left arm forward. In a enormous roar, Tahu's fire blade ignited, shooting a wall of fire into the heart of the group.

From behind, Tahu felt a massive shockwave approaching, he didn't have to look who caused it. The cracks in the earth widened, and large chunks of stone and sand were flung into the air. The chunks of rock began to swirl around, crashing into anything in their path.

The joined attack of Sky and Air hit next. With a great combined effort, Rangi and Lewa summoned up tremendous winds, which swirled the rock and fire together into a fearsome tornado. From inside, the Toa could hear the Mangai crying out.

"Keep at it, Toa! It's working!"

The cries of the Mangai grew louder. Tahu could feel their power pushing against the force of the tornado. Before he could give another order, the tornado burst open from the inside. The energy colided with the four Toa, sending them falling to the ground. From the middle of the pack, the lead Mangai stepped forward.

"Come now, Toa. Do you really think that's all it will take?"

As it drew closer to Tahu, the Mangai began to shrink. It's mouth began to seal up, and the whole body reared up on its hind legs. The creature began to shrink into something small. Smaller than even the Toa. When it was done, the Toa were left looking at another Turaga.

"Who are you?"

The Turaga made a slight bow. His Kanohi caught the light off the sun and glimmered.

"Honestly now. Don't you know anything? The Mangai....Famine? It is I, Tupuhi. Bringer of Famine and Turaga of the Mighty Hiakai."

He Turaga's mask began to glow brighter. With an evil look, he brought his staff down onto Tahu's chest.

"Now it's time for me to go to work. And I believe I'll start with you...Toa of Fire."

Tahu looked for his fellow Toa. They were trying to get to him, but the Mangai had stepped between. He knew what they were doing was right. The Mangai were a bigger threat at this time. But as he felt the Turaga begin to drain his strength away from him...Tahu's mind could only manage one thought.

"Where is Gali..."

Chapter 31:
-----------------
Gali dropped quickly to the bottom of the ocean. A tear rolled down her cheek as the bodies of Tohunga came into view. Some held weapons...others lay maskless.

"Those monsters. How could they do something like this to innocent villagers?"

Gali came to rest on the ocean floor. Saddended, she closed her eyes to the scene. Images of happier times came to her mind....bringing with them a burning feeling. Gali stood readying herself for what she knew must be done. Tahu's words echoed in her head.

"You've always been the cool headed one around here..."

She felt herself shaking, and decided to take a seat. The burning pain began to work it's way down, striking her heart. Onua's voice followed.

"There was this rage inside of me, this massive anger. Even though I tried to hold it back, part of me realized it was the only way to save us all."

Could it be? Was this what Onua had felt? Anger had never been a strong part of Gali's personality. But it would have to be.

Suddenly, something entered Gali’s mind. A voice she knew. Not from the past...but from the present.

Gali, where are you...

Gali’s heart became overwhelmed with pain. It was Tahu crying out to her now. She could feel his pain, she could hear laughter as she felt Tahu’s energy fading. It was now or never if she was to do anything. The water around Gali began to glow with an intense light. Slowly, Gali began to realize that it was not the water glowing, but her own Kanohi. The burning pain in her heart had begun to fade, and was quickly being replaced with confidence. As ready as she would ever be, Gali gave a strong kick in the water. Rocketing towards the surface of the water, she thought out loud...

“I’m coming, Tahu.”

Chapter 32:
---------------
Tupuhi cackled as felt Tahu's energy entering his body. The Toa tried to struggle, but the Turaga could tell there was nothing left.

"You're only delaying the inevitable, Toa of Fire. Soon I will be done with you...and then it will be their turn!"

Tupuhi looked towards the other Toa, who were still battling against the Mangai. He seemed to be eyeing one in particular.

"Ah yes, Rangi. He's young...I could use a bit of youthful energy. Yes, the Master would be very pleased if I could get that Toa's energy first."

The rage in Tahu began to boil. The Toa of Fire was best known for his short fuse, and right now Tupuhi was nearing the end of it.

"You're only digging your own grave Tupuhi. I will be the one to kill you."

The Turaga looked oddly at Tahu, and then began to laugh even harder. With a quick stab, Tupuhi drove his staff deep into Tahu's chest. The Toa winced, but refused to cry out.

"Come now, Tahu. Surely if help was going to come...it would..."

Without warning, Tupuhi was brought down by a wave of water. Almost instantly, Gali was standing at Tahu's side.

"Are you okay, Tahu?"

Groaning, Tahu pried the Turaga's staff out of his chest. He tossed it aside and struggled into a sitting posistion.

"I'll be alright...now that you're here. I knew I could count on you, Gali."

She nodded. With Tahu safe, she walked over to the Turaga of Famine. Tupuhi had climbed to his feet, and quickly summoned his staff to his side.

"You're making a mistake, Toa of Water. I have absorbed the lifeforce of you're villagers. Their power is mine now!"

Gali shook her head as she neared the Turaga. The confidence that Tupuhi had so readily shown was now disappearing. As Gali drew closer, he was able to see the glow from her Kanohi, and over her shoulder he could also see the waters of Ga-Koro...raging as if in the midst of a hurricane.

"But that....that is impossible! No Toa has that kind of power."

Gali lifted her hooks above her head, slowly they began to bubble and melt together, forming a ball of water.

"You're wrong Tupuhi. We Toa have far more power than you or your Master can comprehend. For our power comes from the heart! You've messed with my village one time too many...and now you will suffer the consequences of your actions!"

Gali threw her hands forward, driving the expanding bubble at Tupuhi. The Turaga summoned up his own power and attempted to disperse the shot, but it was too much for him. Tupuhi was overwhelmed by the wave.

"Mangai! Attack her!"

The Mangai must have been anticipating the attack, for they were on top of Gali within seconds of the command. But try as they could, Gali was untouchable. With amazing grace, Gali was able to weave and dodge each attack. Any attacks that struck simply missed and stuck another Mangai. The beast were growing more and more furious with each missed blow.

"No! That can't be! The Toa weren't supposed to be able to tap into their elements like this! I must report back to the Master at once!"

Tupuhi turned from the battle and quickly began to flee, but he was quickly stopped by Tahu, who had recovered using his Pakari. The 3 remaining Toa had joined Tahu, and now had the Turaga fully surrounded.

"You're master isn't here, Tupuhi? Where is he?"

Tupuhi cowered under the combined might of 4 Toa. Looking toward the coast, he could see his beautiful Mangai slain. With Gali now advancing towards him. The storms had calmed, and Gali's Kaukau had ceased glowing, but there was still anger in her eyes.

"You will tell us where your Master has gone! You will tell us...or I will fulfill my promise to you!"

Tahu grabbed Tupuhi by the neck and lifted him up. Tupuhi cried out as Tahu's hands burned him. Once again Tahu's rage was taking over.

"I will not turn against the Master! Our plan will be followed through!"

"...our plan....our plan..." The words echoed in Tahu's head. Something was coming together...and very quickly the pieces all started to fit. With an angered yell, Tahu threw Tupuhi to the ground.

"You wouldn't! You wouldn't do that!"

Gali could see the heat rising from Tahu. His fury was climbing to its worst. Tupuhi saw this as well, and recognized the signs of yet another Toa's power rising.

"What is it, Tahu? What's wrong?"

Tahu grabbed Tupuhi once again. The other Toa could hear the sizzling and cracking as Tahu's touch burned the Turaga. Tupuhi cried out in pain.

"You attacked each village one at a time....you drove the Turaga from village to village...until there was none left. But there is one left isn't there? And that was your plan all along. You knew exactly what would happen once the Turaga learned of your arrival."

Tupuhi's eyes went from feared to glee. Tahu knew, but there was nothing he could do to stop it. Tupuhi began to cackle maniacally.

"It's too late. You're all the way over here...and they're all the way over there! You'll never make it in time! The Turaga will fall all at once...and you'll be totally helpless!"

Tahu's Kanohi exploded in fire, enveloping both Toa and Turaga. Tuphui's cries slowly faded, until Tahu threw down the burned body of the Turaga.

"Tahu! What is it!"

Without a word, Tahu switched to his Kakama and rocketed away from Ga-Koro, leaving the defeated Tupuhi squirming in the sand. Lewa and Rangi were soon off, following him.

"Come, Gali. We must not leave Tahu's side."

Onua began to chase after the other Toa. Tupuhi has said that they would be too late....but too late for what? What had Tahu figured out...and why had it enraged him to that degree?

Gali activated her Kakama and quickly left to pick up the trail of her comrades....but in their haste, the Toa had failed to notice the shrouded figure hiding nearby. As soon as they had cleared the coast, it quickly made its way to Tupuhi's body.

"Ooh yes...poor poor Tupuhi....but happy is our Lord. He shall be most pleased...ooh yes indeed. Our poor Tupuhi was not lost in vain."

Chapter 33:
---------------
It had started raining a short time ago. Vakama and his fellow Ta-Korans had taken shelter in their huts. They had never been to keen on water, and the rains normally didn't last long enough to put a severe halt to their plans. But today Vakama didn't even think twice about the rains as he ran out to meet his fellow Turaga. Mihini, Matau, and Whenua had flown in on Kahu birds, carrying an injured Nokama with them.

"Greetings fellow Keepers. I am glad that all of us were able to gather today. As you know, we have most important buisness to discuss."

There was a flash of lighting, sending Whenua screaming into Vakama's hut.

"I am sorry, but I am still not accustomed to light such as this."

The other Turaga nodded and gathered around the table, taking their usual posistions. There was an awkward silence as each Turaga attempted to avoid looking at Onewa's empty spot. Mihini whispered to Vakama, who nodded. Quietly, Mihini took his place at Nuju's former spot.

Vakama spoke first:
"Turaga, we gather today for a most unfortuneate meeting. As you surely have all discovered by now, the prophecy of Te Mutunga has begun. Already the Riders have taken hold of Ko-Koro, and reports from your people have told of attacks at Le-Koro and Ga-Koro as well. Po-Koro is still attempting to recover from the loss of their Turaga, and the villagers have begun to pack up and spread out amongst the other villages."

Mihini rose from his seat and addressed their leader.

"Wise Vakama. You are the eldest and most learned Turaga on all of Mata-Nui. Surely you have been preparring a strategy in the event of the Riders return."

Vakama shook his head.

"There is one plan. Similar to that which first defeated the Riders. I'm sure many of you are familiar with parts of it."

Nokama, who had been quiet healing until now, spoke first.

"I myself am weak from the recent attack on my people. I doubt if I could muster the energy required for such a ritual."

Whenua was next.

"Even if we could ourselves be able to summon it...we would need a sixth Turaga to complete the ceremony."

Matau spoke last.

"I may not be the most knowledgable of the Turaga...but even I have my doubts as to wether there is anybody out there worthy to recieve such a burden as we would summon."

"That's a risk we may just have to take. But of course the utmost concern at this time is what Whenua has mentioned. We are in need of a sixth Turaga. Onewa passed on before he was able to name a successor...and nobody knows the people of the villages like their own Turaga."

"What of Huki? I have heard my Maku speak of him greatly many times. Perhaps he is ready to be given such a posistion."

Mihini stepped away from the table and to his satchel. From it he removed Onewa's Kanohi, which he placed on its spot on the table.

"Is it possible that we could complete the ceremony with just his Kanohi? After all, the Kanohi is what is passed from person to person."

Vakama gazed up towards the ceiling, as if asking of Mata-Nui himself what could be done. After a long silence, he nodded his head.

"We will have to try. The dangers of passing the mantle to an illpreparred Tohunga are far worse than...."

Vakama was interrupted by a loud crash outside. The Turaga could hear the Kahu's screaming as the thunder began to pick up. Quickly they rushed to the door...straining through the darkness to see what lie outside.

"There! By the fire!"

Nokama pointed out towards the center of the village, where the Eternal Flame of Ta-Koro burned. From it's light, the shape of a Toa was just visible. However...this was no ordinary Toa. It stood on four legs, carried a long sword, and swished its tail around is if it had a will of its own. It appeared to be yelling at something, and a closer look revealed a terrified Tohunga in its clutches.

"Tell me where Vakama's hut is!"

The Tohunga cried out in protest. The Toa pushed his blade up against the villagers throat, but still the Tohunga refused to speak.

"That is enough, Toa! I am here!"

Vakama stepped out into the light of the Eternal Flame. His eyes were an angry red.

"Ah, not hiding behind your Huna I see. Very noble indeed."

The shadowed figured threw the Tohunga toward Vakama. It was Jala, who had called up the Guard when the intruder had been spotted. He was okay, and quickly stood beside his Turaga.

"Come out of the shadows, Toa. I wish to see who you are myself."

The Toa listened, and slowly stepped into the light of the fire. Vakama gasped as he recognied the Toa.

"Khultak! Toa of Nature! It's impossible. The Legends say you were killed in the battle with the Riders."

A new voice spoke, a voice that Mihini knew at once...Peke.

"That just goes to show you can't believe all the Legends you read, Vakama. Khultak was buried in a tomb very similar to that of the great Rangi. I manged to awaken him. It was quite an interesting accident if I may add."

"We've come here looking for something very important to me. No doubt you already know what it is, Vakama."

Mihini rushed forward to attack Peke, but Vakama held out an arm to stop him quickly. Vakama leaned over and whispered to him.

"Don't try it. Peke may be weakened, but Khultak is at full strength. I do not wish to anger him at this time." He turned back to Khultak.

"Why is it that you have allied yourself with this Turaga, Khultak? You must know that he is a Bringer of the Riders!"

Khultak grinned. He spoke slowly.

"Of course I do. But you see, I have something very important to take care of. And in order to do so I must have my Kanohi returned to me. Peke here offered to help. It's an allegience out of neccesity...not out of agreement. Now I believe it is time to discuss what it is I came here for."

Vakama began to shake his head and back away.

"It can no longer be trusted to you. Whatever your reasons...you are allied with the enemy. I cannot let you have it."

Khultak's eyes glowed a deep blue. With an angered yell Khultak picked Vakama up off the ground and held him over the fire.

"You will give it to me! I know you have it! The Kanohi Vahi will be mine again!"

Chapter 34:
---------------
Khultak and Vakama locked eyes. The Turaga feared for his life, but he dared not show it.

"Where is my Kanohi, Vakama? As eldest Turaga I know you would have it!"

The Toa of Nature tightened his grip on Vakama. Despite the situation, Vakama spoke calmly.

"I cannot give it to you. The Vahi is too powerful to be trusted with someone that would ally himself with the Riders."

"But it is mine!"

"It was yours. Don't you remember anything? Shortly before you were put asleep, the village elders divided the Kanohi Vahi's power amongst them. As much as they wished it to stay with you, they couldn't risk that it would ever be found by the wrong people! The power has since been passed down through the ages...into the six Turaga of the villages today. And even if we did wish to return it to you...we cannot! Onewa of Po-Koro is dead! Killed by the very Turaga you now align yourself with. Without him we are unable to perform the ceremony!"

Khultak set Vakama back down and turned to Peke. The blue of his eyes deepened.

"Is this true, Turaga? Was it you?"

Peke cowered benethe the light of the fire. He dropped to his knees and begged.

"Khultak...I didn't know! How could I have? I was sealed up just as long as you have been."

Khultak narrowed his eyes. Then calmly turned back to Vakama.

"Then you will use this Turaga. Give him the power of Onewa. Allow him to be your sixth Turaga."

Gasps rose up from the Turaga in Vakama's hut. Vakama shook his head and backed away quickly.

"Never! It is obscene to even consider giving such a mantle to a Bringer."

Khultak roared and began to approach Vakama.

"You do not seem to understand what it is I am saying. I have some very important buisness to attend to. And in order to succeed in my buisness...I will require the aid of my Kanohi Vahi. I suggest you listen to what I have to say. Or else..."

"Or else what?"

The Eternal Flame erupted into a massive fire ball. Khultak took cover, and Peke was thrown aside. Looking across the fire to the entrance of Ta-Koro, Khultak could see size figures. The lead one glowed with a brilliant red light. The rainwater sizzled and steamed as it struck his heated body.

"Leave my village alone! The Riders will not have Ta-Koro!"

Khultak pointed his blade at Tahu. He recognized that aura. Tahu was in touch with the fires of Mata-Nui. Had Khultak wished to fight him, it would have been a difficult battle. But there was more important buisness to attend to.

"I am after far more important things than your village, Toa of Fire. Leave me to my buisness, and I will go. I don't suggest you get in my way."

Tahu gritted his teeth, and the Eternal Flame roared again. This time it's light caught another figure. Four legs, an axe, and a red Kanohi. It lept into the open, and brandished it's weapon readily.

"Since my cover appears to have been blown...allow me to introduce myself."

He bowed, swinging his axe in the process.

"Hiakai, Bringer of Famine! You see...my original plan was to attack Ta-Koro once all the Turaga had gathered. My commrades had done as much to make that possible. When I sensed that my Turaga had been defeated, I reasoned that you would figure this plan out."

Khultak raised his sword and readied it for battle.

"Hiakai. You're treachery nearly cost the people of Pa-Tahi their lives. How dare you show your face before me again!"

Hiakai laughed at this.

"Come now, old man. You weren't even supposed to be here. But I guess I can thank Peke for that much. I'm surprised you'd be so ready to hate me for my treachery...when you are standing here now with your own Turaga...which betrayed you just as I did."

This came as a shock to all the onlookers. All the onlookers except Khultak. Peke protested.

"You lie! I never have aligned myself with him before this day! My loyalties have always and will always lie with the Riders!"

Hiakai slid over to Peke. He glared into his eyes.

"This was never part of the plan, Peke. You were never to awaken Khultak. Our Lord commanded that much of us. Part of you still pledges his loyalty to the Toa of Nature. And we can't have servents of questionable loyalty in our army."

Khultak rushed to attack Hiakai, but within seconds of speaking to him the Rider of Famine threw the Turaga away with a mighty blast. Peke crashed into the side of Vakama's hut, causing it to collapse. The remaining four Turaga fled the entrance before the structure came crashing down.

"No! Hiakai, how could you! You knew who he was just as much as I did! Didn't you?"

"Of course I did, old man. That's why I had to do what I did. Now I believe that we had a fight to continue? Old rivalries die hard you know."

Khutalk roared and swung his blade forward. Hiakai easily blocked it.

"You grow slower with time, old man. Surely you still have it in you to beat me!"

Khultak began to swing widely with his blade. Hiakai countered and struck with his own skill, but the two soon seemed evenly matched. Tahu, who's temper now grew higher at the thought of a Rider attacking his village, couldn't stand to wait anymore.

"Gali, Onua...I think I know what you were takling about when you said tapping into your power. It's time for me to defend my village, as I am sworn to do."

The Toa protested, but Tahu continued to walk towards the fight. The Kanohi Hau now glowed a brilliant red, and Tahu's body continued to steam as rain drops fell on it.

"Rider of Famine!" he cried. "You have endagered my village. That is a crime for which there is no forgiveness. I will defeat you!"

Weapon raised, Tahu preparred to charge. But before he could take another step, the ground began to shake. Off to his left, Tahu could see a light eminating from within Vakama's hut. The Turaga of Fire ran to the entrance, and began prying rubble from the doorstep.

"No! Not now! Not him! Onewa's Kanohi was in there!"

Khultak let out a quick cheer. He blocked a swing from Hiakai and quickly began to fight back harder.

"Your own treachery has backfired, Hiakai! You've succeeded in that which I have been trying to do since I arrived. You as well as I knew who he really was."

The light grew stronger. The rubble began to lift and crumble away.

"You see, Vakama! I told you that Peke could be trusted with the power. For it was he that originated the Komau itself!"

Vakama backed away as the rubble crumbled away, revealing a lone Turaga standing in the center. It stood on four legs, and carried a large pick in its hand. On its face was the Kanohi Komau.

"Hiakai, may I present to you...revived and restored...the Keeper of my Legend...the Turaga Tohru."

Chapter 35:
---------------
With the other Turaga watching in disbelief, Tohru steppped forward.

"Peke! Is that you in there? Peke!"

Tohru shook his head as he continued approaching the Turaga.

"Peke is no more. It was your Lord that corrupted me, and you. But thanks to the help of Khultak, I am back."

Vakama placed a hand on the new Turaga's shoulder.

"Welcome brother. Your arrival brings great hope."

"I understand, Vakama. We will complete the ceremony as you have planned. We must unlock the Vahi if there is to be hope of defeating the Riders."

Hiakai roared and charged for the Turaga, but was quickly cut off by Khultak.

"Don't take another step, Hiakai. You're battle is with me!"

"I don't have time for this Toa. The Vahi's power is on my Lord's list of demands. I must bring it to him. If you stand in my way, you will be destroyed."

Khultak raised his blade and prepared to lunge. But Tohru called out to him.

"Khultak, wait! You are needed with us. You were the keeper of the Vahi. And only you will be able to fully use its powers."

Khultak met eyes with Hiakai. The Toa of Famine appeared to be enjoying the moment.

"Come now, Khultak. If you go, where will I get my fun from? You know that you're the only one that can stand against me, old man."

Shortly after the words left his mouth, Hiakai felt a blast of heat strike him in the side. Enraged, he searched for his attacker. He saw Tahu. Standing poised, holding his fire sword in both hands. Smoke still rose from the blade.

"I will face you, Rider. This is my village. It is my duty to defend it."

Hiakai nodded and began to run at Tahu. A flash of lightning made his axe shimmer in the darkness.

"Very well, Toa of Fire. You shall be the first to die!"

"I really doubt that! Khultak, get going...I can handle this guy!"

Hiakai's axe struck Tahu's blade, and immediately waves of energy began to pulse from the two. As they fought, Tahu's Kanohi appeared to only grow brighter. The other Toa readied their own attacks.

"Wait!"

Tahu reached back with his free hand and threw a fireball at their feet. He glanced at Gali, and could tell she had gotten the message.

"This is my village. I must be willing to do this for it!"

Tahu's blade slashed fiercly at Hiakai, but the Toa of Famine dodged and guarded every shot.

"You have to be better than that, Tahu! I've trained with the best. How can you expect to beat me if you aren't even on their level?"

Tahu landed a fire blast in Hiakai's chest. The Rider was thrown back, but didn't appear to have been harmed.

"Come now. This power-up of yours may have been enough to finish of a lowly Turaga...but it doesn't stand a chance against a full Rider!"

Hiakai swung his axe at Tahu's head. The Toa dodged, but felt as the back swing of the handle caught him in the spine.

"Ah!"

Tahu felt his legs give out underneath him. He landed in a heap on the ground. As Hiakai began to loom over him, he could see the Turaga circling around Khultak. They were chanting something.

"Hurry up guys..." he muttered to himself. "No pressure here."

Tahu rolled over, ready to catch the axe if he had to. But before the attack came, two blasts caught the Rider in his chest. Within seconds, Gali and Onua were attacking him with everything. Their Kanohi glowed as they had in the previous battles.

"That's it you guys. You've figured it out."

Tahu shifted to his Pakari and felt himself begin to recharge. Using his sword as a third leg, he lifted himself up.

"Rangi, Lewa. We need time! Feel free to join in!"

The two Toa nodded, and with a cry of celebration took to the air. As the chanting Turaga grew louder, the airborne Toa attacked.

"You can't beat me! You don't have the power!"

Hiakai swung his axe, knocking both Onua and Gali away. Tahu charged between them and drove his blade forward. The Rider swatted it away like it was nothing.

"Curse you! I will have you dead, Rider!"

Lewa and Rangi continued to strike from the air, blasting gusts of wind at the Dark Toa. Gali and Onua had taken posistion on either side, and were bombarding him with their elemental powers. Hiakai struggled to push them away, but the combined forces of 5 Toa were too much for him.

"I will not be defeated. I am the Rider of Famine!"

Tahu drew back his blade, collecting heat from the Eternal Fire. With a mighty yell, he flew at Hiakai.

"Sorry, Hiakai. Your ride is over!"

Tahu's sword erupted in flame, and with a quick thrust went straight for Hiakai's throat.

*clang*

The sound of metal on metal caused all in the area to go quiet. Tahu stood, glaring into the eyes of the Rider of Famine.

But...Hiakai was glaring back.

"What is this?"

Tahu looked down at his blade, which was frozen in place. Even the flames had stopped dancing across its edge. To his left, Gali stood motionless, Onua was frozen on his right.

"This can't be!"

Hiakai rose to his feet, kicking the frozen blade aside.

"Apparently this is not my time Toa. Until me meet again!"

Hiakai turned and quickly dashed away. Tahu rose to chase after him, but a familar blade slashed out in front of him.

"Let him go, Tahu."

Tahu's anger began to boil over again.

"Who are you to stop me! I had him right wh..."

Tahu turned to yell at Khultak. But stopped himself when he caught a glimpse of the Toa's face. Khultak's fierce blue eyes were glowing...glowing from within the orange light of the Great Mask of Time.

Chapter 36:
---------------
Khultak looked out at Tahu from behind the Vahi. Though he nothing of this mask, part of Tahu old him to fear its power.

"I am sorry to let him go. But if you'll just listen...maybe then you can understand."

Tahu shook his head, and pointed his sword at Khultak's chest.

"I had Hiakai right where I wanted him. How dare you get in my way!"

Khultak snapped his fingers, and suddenly everything around Tahu began to move again.

"I'm sorry. But you are wrong. You're new abilities are powerful, but you wouldn't have been able to defeat Hiakai. The Turaga you defeated were no where near the power of the Riders whose power they keep. Hiakai would've killed you easily."

Gali placed an arm on Tahu's shoulder. The Toa of Fire had powered down, but his armor was still warm to the touch.

"But how can you know that? Hiakai was disabled..."

Khultak tapped the Vahi with his sword.

"I knew because I saw it happen. The Riders are Toa, just like you. And just as you are able to tap into your elements...so are they. Your attack would've driven Hiakai to call upon his full power. And that would've been the end for us all."

"But if they have that power, why haven't they used it yet?"

"The Riders know just as much about their abilities as you do. But they have grown stronger since I last fought them, which means they are learning quickly."

"But if we can't defeat the Riders at full power...'"

"I never said that Rangi. Yes, you some of you are able to tap into your elements. But you are far from mastering the technique. If you could fully understand what you've been given...then you would stand a chance."

Lewa, who had been growing more and more jealous of his fellow Toa, pushed the others aside and now stood before Khultak.

"Then help us. Obviously you know more about this power than we do. Teach us how to use it, and then we'll fight."

"There isn't enough time for training. You will have to..."

"No. There IS time. You hold the Kanohi Vahi. Can you not use it to give us the time we need?"

Khultak shook his head. He called to Tohru, who began to speak.

"The Kanohi Vahi, the Great Mask of Time, is a very powerful mask. But it is unstable. To do something like you are demanding...it's not safe."

"Why not, Turaga?"

"The Vahi has the power to speed or slow up time as the user sees fit, but Time is a very delicate thing. If we begin to mess with its flow to often, we run the risk of damaging the very fabric of the universe. The kind of Time that you need would require a dramatic slowing...and for the duration that you needed it...there's a chance we could premenly damage the time flow."

Khultak interrupted.

"Not only that, but it is a drain on the user itself. If I were to slow down time that much, and maintain it...it would kill me."

"And what of it? Kopaka and Pohatu have already died in this battle. As Toa it is your duty to protect this island with your life!"

"My duty is to protect my VILLAGE, Tahu! And my Pa-Tahi is long gone. Futhermore, if I died...I would never have a chance of reaching Hiakai!"

The other Toa had now surrounded Khultak. Though Tahu guessed that Khultak would be able to escape if need be.

"What are you talking about, Khultak? What is so important about Hiakai?"

Khultak lowered himself to the ground, dropped his eyes to the ground.

"The Riders themselves have not always been around. It was only the Skull Hau that existed. But it's evil...it's darkness...was able to corrupt many people of my village."

The Turaga, with the exception of Tohru, joined the circle formed by the Toa. This had never been passed to them from the previous Turaga. A tear rolled down his cheek as Khultak continued.

"Hiakai wasn't his name until he was taken over by the Skull Hau. Before that, it was Arun. And he was my son."

Chapter 37:
---------------
The circle that had formed around Khultak began to hum with the discussion of what had just been revealed. Tahu shook his head in disbelief. Vakama rose to his feet in protest.

"That is impossible! Records only told of two Toa in the ancient times. Surely there would've been some legend passed down of a third Ancient Toa."

Tohru placed a hand on Vakama's shoulder and beckoned him to sit. Slowly, Khultak's Turaga joined him in the center of the ring.

"There is much that you have not been told Turaga. And Toa, there is much for you to learn."

The remaining Turaga leaned in close to hear what was entirely new information. Even Mihini had never known of something of this importance. Tohru cleared his throat and began to speak.

"There is much to know of your powers, Toa. Much that you have never been told. There was a time long ago when there was no Makuta, no Riders. There was only the Turaga and their followers the Tohunga. Because there was no danger, there was no need for protectors. And therefore there was no Toa. The people of Pa-Tahi lived in peace for ages. The leadership was handed down through the generations, with a Tohungan apprentice being appointed as their master passed on. Pa-Tahi at that time had three Turaga. One represented the Centaurians, such as Khultak. The second represented the Bipedals, like Rangi. The third was chosen by both groups, and served as Moderator between the peoples."

"So how did Pa-Tahi become divided? Surely if they lived in peace..."

Tohru shook his head.

"It did not last forever. Each Turaga took many apprentices. This ensured that should something happen, there would be more than one Tohunga able to carry on duties. But each Turaga had their favorites. Their 'prized pupils' if you will. It came to be that myself, Mihini, and a Tohunga named Natori came to be the favorites to our respective masters."

"But I recall none of this, Tohru. Wouldn't part of me have recollection of these events?"

"Yes and no, Mihini. You retain some information about the Riders because it has been passed down through the ages. However, your powers were reawakened by the mask of Nuju, and therefore you were not handed the entire story. Rangi may also not recall much of this, as much of it was hidden from him as well."

"But I remember the Riders. I remember battling alongside Khultak. Why was I never told of Arun?"

"Would you have been able to bring yourself to battle the son of your ally? It would've created a weakness in you the Riders would surely exploit."

"Tohru, continue with this story." Tahu interrupted. "I'd like to know what this is we're dealing with."

"I shall do so, Tahu...." He paused. "Oh yes, I was at the Turaga. You see, Mihini, Natori, and I were soon selected to take over for our masters. But this time the power transfer did not come without contest. A young Tohunga named Kehua had always viewed himself as the smartest and most talented of the apprentices. He grew jealous of what he viewed as the Bipedal Natori's attempts to build favor with the Centaurian Moderator. Upon Natori's selection, an enraged Kehua swore vengence upon Pa-Tahi and fled the town for Mt. Ihu."

"So what became of Kehua?"

"Shortly before we were to become Turaga. Our Masters decided that protection was needed in case Kehua were to try something against our village. However the night before this plan was to be fulfilled, something terrible happened. Great beasts decended from Mt. Ihu and attacked the village. The Turaga rushed to rally the troops, but the battle was a fierce one. In the course of the attack, the Turaga were ambushed by a lone besat. Natori's master was killed, and his staff stolen. As if by plan, the attack ceased, and the monsters vanished up Mt. Ihu.
The village was in an uproar. How had Kehua managed to gain so much power? And how was an army of Tohunga going to be able to fend off whatever attack may come next? It was decided that the village needed defenders, and a plan was formed."

"The Toa..."

"Exactly. The village needed expierienced warriors with immense powers to defend Pa-Tahi from such an attack. Two generals, Khultak and Rangi, were selected. Khultak was to be empowered with the very spirit of Nature, while Rangi would gain his abilities from the Heavens. Together they became the first Toa of Mata-Nui."

Khultak and Rangi's locked eyes. They had been the first. But why couldn't Rangi remember?

"The Toa were able to drive the Rahi away from Pa-Tahi, but Kehua soon had new plans of his own. So he seeked out the only means of combating the Toa. A Toa of his own. However, he had only himself to give to the ceremony. It is believed that the good inside of the staff he held refused to allow such a hateful creature to gain power. Whatever the case, Kehua died trying to empower himself. He was found in his hideaway, and buried on the spot. All that was found with him was the staff, and a lone Kanohi. Kehua had attempted to carve it himself from a rock, most likely hoping to use it in his ceremony."

"...The Skull Hau. Kehua was the one who created it?"

"Yes, which is why the Turaga demanded the Mask be brought to Pa-Tahi to be destroyed. That was our first mistake. The Centaurian excavators that found the Skull Hau brought it to my master. I was instructed to guard the Skull Hau until the morning, when it would be brought to the center of town and destroyed by the Turaga. It would never come to pass."

Chapter 38:
---------------
Tohunga had begun to gather around Tohru as he told his story. Many soon had started small fires, which only helped to up the eerie feeling of the tale.

"The night before the destruction of the Skull Hau was to take place, Natori, Mihini and I were assigned to guard the mask. The guard unit that was with us soon began to report of strange sounds coming from the Kanohi's chamber. Armed and supported by the guards, we three apprentices entered. To our amazement, the Skull Hau had come to life. From it came a dark light, like nothing we had ever seen. We attempted to leave the chamber, but the force of the Kanohi sealed us in. We tried to destory it, but failed. Soon the Hau began to speak to us. 'Come to me.' It said. 'Give yourself to my power.' It continued to speak, and despite our best efforts, one by one we fell to its power."

"What happened to you? Surely you weren't killed by it. Or else you wouldn't be here now."

"No. We weren't killed, our fate was far worse than death. Kehua had charged the Kanohi with such strong dark energy, that we were unable to resist its evil. Natori, Mihini and I lost our will to Kanohi. We gave ourselves to it, and were transformed into the three Turaga that would carry the legend of the Riders. The Hau's first command was to take the life of the guards, and we did so easily. As the last hint of goodness within me faded, I watched as the Skull Hau absored the very life force of the guard. But it's mission wasn't complete yet. For now it wanted to fulfill Kehua's revenge. It wanted our leaders."

"But what of Arun? And how did Khultak claim the Vahi?"

"Our Turaga knew at once that something was wrong, and sensing the evil that was coming, quickly began to gather power into a new Kanohi. The Vahi. They hoped that with enough power, it would be able to stand up to and defeat the darkness of Kehua's Skull Hau. However, before they could fully charge the weapon, we three Turaga attacked. Reluctantly following the commands of their Turaga, Rangi and Khultak fled the temple with the Vahi in tow. The leaders of Pa-Tahi were quickly overcome, and with the power of the Skull Hau were transformed into two of the Riders. It had not been planned for Natori's master to die in the initial Rahi attack, and we were left with one less Turaga than we needed. However fearing the power of the newly formed Vahi, we fled to Mt. Ihu once more."

"And Pa-Tahi?"

"Khultak and Rangi stayed with them. Without their leaders, the village quickly fell into disarray. Kehua had been a centaur, and now these new enemies were centaurs as well. The bipedal villagers began to grow distrustful of the centaurian race. Their lives in potential jeopardy, centaurs began to leave the village in droves. The unity of Khultak and Rangi was not enough to combat the growing hatred. Something drastic was needed. So Khultak devised a plan. He would take on the powers of the Kanohi Vahi, and pass a share of his power to his son Arun, who had been born of a Centaur father and Bipedal mother. He whole-heartedly accepted this responsibility, and as he evolved into his Toa form, Khultak presented the new warrior as a sign of Pa-Tahian unity. This half-blood would fight to protect the people of Pa-Tahi regardless of what they were. This new warrior brought a renewed sense of hope to Pa-Tahi. And the villagers began to unite once more."

"So you made your son into a Toa, Khultak? How did you know it would work?"

"I didn't at the time. But my son had wished to fight, and when presented with the plan vowed to follow through no matter what the cost. That to gave the villagers on both sides a new respect for the other. The responsibilties of my charge were split with him. I would continue as Toa of Fauna, while my son would carry on as Toa of Flora. It would later prove to be one my greatest errors."

Tohru touched Khultak's shoulder and montioned for him to again take his seat. The Turaga cleared his voice, and took over the storytelling.

"With the Turaga of Pa-Tahi and their apprentices now under the control of the Skull Hau, it appeared that revenge had been carried out. However, the lack of Natori's master had left them one Rider short. They would need another puppet, and they saw what they wanted in Arun. He was young, and rash, he would be easily swayed by the influence of the Skull Hau."

Tahu could see Khultak holding back tears. But after Tohru completed his part, Khultak cut in and continued.

"There was a span of many months without an attack. In that time we slowly began to rebuild our leadership. Arun, Rangi, and I had been training non-stop, and decided the time had come. We could no longer wait for the Riders to come to us. So on the chosen day, Arun, Rangi and I made the journey up Mt. Ihu. We were first attacked by their minions upon reaching the summit, but they were not nearly as numerous as they are now. We managed to fight our way through, and reached the chamber of the Riders."

Tohru and Khultak began to speak quickly, interrupting each other as the story progressed.

"Khultak and the other Toa entered the chamber, but refused to fight once they came face to face with the Riders."

"We were unsure of what to do. They had been our leaders. They had created Rangi and I. We had to try and reach out to them. We had to try to break the influence of the Skull Hau."

"The Toa attempted to reason with the Riders, and their Turaga. But the Skull Hau had too firm a grip on their minds. Of the three, only Arun openly wished to fight."

"I tried to tell him no. Tried to keep him from charging, but he was too headstrong...too willing to fight."

"The Skull Hau easily took him over. There was nothing..."

"There was nothing I could do. I watched Arun...my son...be transformed into that monster...that Hiakai."

With a painful cry, Khultak drove his sword into the stone of the Ta-Koro square. His blue eyes flashed angrily from beneath the shimmering orange Vahi.

"My anger and hatred for what had happened triggered my inner strength. It was the same power that you Toa now are slowly discovering. I used it to slow time to a halt. Rangi and I attacked, but we could not destroy them. Instead we used our Kanohi, and our very own energy, to seal them deep within Mt. Ihu...hoping they would never be able to rise again. Creating the seal nearly killed us, and our villagers were forced to put us to sleep as well. Our Kanohi were taken, and used to create the energy that would keep us between life and death. It was hoped that should the Riders ever rise again, we would be able to reawaken them and fight back. But beyond that, I know no more."

It was then that Vakama raised his staff, and began to speak.

"The Vahi's power was divided amongst 6 villagers, who used it to become the new Turaga of Pa-Tahi. Over time the great city was divided into the 6 villages that now span Mata-Nui. And that is the extend of the legend that we have been handed. All the rest is known to even you Great Toa."

Tahu rose to his feet and approached Khultak with an outstretched hand.

"I understand your loss. As you know we have lost two of our own today. But know now that we are fighting the same battle as you. And if you wish us to help you save your son, then so be it."

Gali ran up and put her hand out as well.

"Fight alongside us. There is much we can learn from one another."

The other Toa soon joined Khultak in the middle of the ring. The Toa of Fauna looked carefully at each one, smiling only once...at Rangi.

"Do you trust these guys, old friend?"

The Toa of Skies nodded.

"With my life."

Khultak nodded back, and grabbed Tahu's outstretched hand. Laughing, he gave it a hard shake.

"Consider me on the team!"

The gathering Tohunga cheered, and the 6 Turaga joined in a ring and hugged each other.

"Past and present." whispered Mihini.

"Old and new." added Tohru.

"At last they are whole again." Vakama replied.

The idle chit-chat of the six Toa was quickly interrupted as Lewa asked the question on everyone's mind.

"Okay, we're all together. Now what?"

Chapter 39:
---------------
Uruta and Pakanga paced about their cavern. Everyone once in a while they looked to the door, hoping to see some sign of their comrades.

"It has been hours since Hiakai left for Ta-Koro and still there is no word. What's worse, Tupuhi hasn't returned from his attack on Ga-Koro. I fear the worse has befallen our allies."

Pakanga stopped pacing and sat down on the floor. He had not been this concerned since Tikanga had failed him. He began to turn his weapon over in his hand, attempting to pass the time.

"I don't understand why we don't just attack. The longer we wait, the more time the Toa have to gather their power. Even now I can feel something growing. I sense something familiar. But I can't..."

Pakanga was interrupted by the entrance of a ghostly figure. It was a Turaga. All white, with a short staff in his hand. On his face was a frail looking white Huna.

"That familiar feeling is the Great Mask of Time. Khultak has been reawakened. And for the Vahi to be unleashed once more, I fear that the Turaga's numbers are back to six."

Shocked by the Turaga's arrival, both Uruta and Pakanga quickly turned and bowed their heads.

"Master Kehua! You grace us with your presence. I meant no disrespect with what I said earlier ple-"

"Quiet! I hate hearing people grovel, it's so unbecoming for something of your caliber. Rise. I have decided the next move."

Kehua lead the Riders into the central chamber. There on the far wall hung the Skull Hau. There was a black light glowing from its center, and even the Riders were filled with a certain dread while looking at it. The Turaga turned back to his servants, the glow from his eyes matching that of the Hau.

"With the Vahi activated again, we can assume there are now six Turaga. Going by what we know, it is safe to say that Khultak has been reawakened and Tohru has been restored. This is an unfortunate loss, but it is not something which we can't overcome. I assume you have been preparing our next step."

Both Riders nodded in agreement. Uruta spoke first.

"Peke was able to eliminate Ko-Koro, and managed to wipe out the Turaga of Po-Koro as well. That village is now emptied, and the Tohunga have all fled to the various other Koros.

Pakanga reported next.

"Thanks to Tikanga, Le-Koro and Onu-Koro are on shaky ground, though the Turaga may be able to bring them together if we don't act quickly."

Kehua's eyes narrowed, and he looked back and forth between Uruta and Pakanga.

"And what of the Famine? Have the plans for Ga-Koro and Ta-Koro been fulfilled?"

"We do not know, Master. They have yet to report back."

Kehua shook his head in disgust. He looked to the Hau, as if asking it for advice. When nothing happened, he returned his gaze to the Riders.

"You do understand that if anything has happened, we all are that remains? Peke and Tikanga are no more, and there are doubts about Hiakai and Tupuhi. Yet I understand you have created a new Turaga, Pakanga?"

"That is correct, Master. Onepu is currently amassing our minions to prepare for a strike."

"A strike? Against where?"

Pakanaga turned to Uruta, hoping for some kind of help.

"At this time...we...wish to attack Ta-Koro again. If Hiakai has failed, we must hit the Turaga before they can disperse."

Kehua began to brush the tip of his mask. He looked to the ground, apparently sorting through something in his head. Quickly, he nodded.

"Yes. That is a good idea. Our armies will attack Ta-Koro once again. Pakanga, speak with Onepu. Give him the command to move against Ta-Koro. But I want you and Uruta to stay with me."

This angered Uruta greatly.

"But Master! Let us go as well. I have been asleep for ages, and have not yet seen battle."

"Calm yourself, Uruta. You do not want to say anything you'll regret. You have not seen battle, this is true. But I need you and Pakanga to stay back and prepare. The Toa will come to this mountain. And when that time comes, I will need you two here at full strength. However, I do need you to send a squad of Rapoi to find Hiakai. I must know what has become of him."

"And what of Tupuhi? Should I search for him as well?"

"No. If he has not returned, he is gone. Better to not waste anymore time on him. It is Hiakai that is important to us."

The Riders nodded, and together exited the central chamber. As the doors slid shut, Kehua's Kanohi began to glow. Screaming, he felt himself being forced to face the Skull Hau. As the light began to fade from his Kanohi, Kehua could feel the power growing within the Hau.

"Oooh. Thank you, my Lord! I feel so trapped whenever you take me over like that."

The Hau's eyes lit up. It began to speak.

"YOU KNOW AS WELL AS I DO IT MUST BE DONE. IN THIS FORM, I CAN ONLY FEEL YOUR PRESENCE. IN ORDER TO FULLY LEAD MY SOLDIERS, I MUST BE ABLE TO SEE THEM, SMELL THEM, TOUCH THEM."

"Yes, my Lord! I apologize for ever questioning you!"

"WHAT HAVE I SAID ABOUT GROVELING, KEHUA?"

Kehua rose to his feet and attempted to calm himself down. However, the Hau continued to speak.

"NOW, WHAT HAVE YOU BROUGHT FOR ME TODAY?"

Kehua opened his hand to reveal a small ball of light. From within it, the cries of Tupuhi could be heard.

"It is only a small piece, my Lord. But it is a piece you so definately need!"

The eyes of the Hau began to shine brighter.

"EXCELLENT JOB. NOW, BRING IT TO ME!"

"Ooh yes, my Lord."

Kehua lifted up the ball, which the Hau quickly began to absorb. Tupuhi's screams at first could be heard echoing within the Kanohi, but as the ball became fully assimilated, the voice vanished.

"AH YES. I CAN FEEL THE POWER RETURNING TO ME! FEASTING ON THAT POHATU WAS BUT A SNACK COMPARRED TO THIS! OH HOW I'VE MISSED IT. BUT SOON THE LAND WILL BE READY FOR MY ARRIVAL. AND THEN I WILL RECLAIM WHAT IS MINE! AND YOU WILL HELP ME...WON'T YOU KEHUA?"

The Turaga nodded. Cackling.

"Yes, my Lord! It is all for you! And once the others have completed their tasks...then I shall give them all to you!"

"YES KEHUA. YOU WILL! NOW, SEE TO IT THAT THE RIDERS COMPLETE THEIR MISSIONS QUCKLY. THE SOONER THEY ARE FINISHED, THE SOONER I CAN RETAKE WHAT IS MINE!"
