kaukau.gif Mods, this may belong in the short stories forum, yet I think it is best suited to be here due to the fact that it can and will be added to.
This is a medley of assorted legends, short stories, and folktales converted into the Bionicle Universe. If there are any stories and folk/ fairy tales you know of that would be good for convertment feel free to pm me, I will do my best to interpret them (and willl thouroghly enjoy them too!). If it is/ was a folktail, feel free to tell of it's origins in the private message or post in the response thread. I will start off with the tradditional "In the Beggining...", though it is not word for word (as all stories are), and will move on to converted Veitnamies/ Irish/ Welsh/Native American tales and legends (but I won't favor any to prevent any upsets).

Here is a list of the current stories I have an Idea of using or already have posted.

-In the Begginning...

-Friend of the Mists

-Playing to the Moon (this one I have just started working on after hearing a great story that originates from France)

-In Fools and Faith...

-The Disk Dapii

-Highly Lowly Friend

-The Trades and the Craft

-The Stone

-The Music of Truth

Any Titles that are in bold have been or are being posted in this thread.

kaukau.gif Here is the response/add thread:
http://www.bzpower.com/forum/index.php?act...ST&f=25&t=37755

or go HERE

In this list, I will give a brief description of the source and possibly history.

-In the Begginning...
A new version of the original adapted by me, summed up from most of the stories and pictures I've seen.

-Friend of the Mists
A story I found in the Mirror of Merlin by T.A. Barron, this was converted into the Bioniverse.

-In Fools and Faith...
A new story that I will be writing, don't even know how it will end or if I'll use that name for a title. This story will Feature Muaka as a female Tiger and takes place at the rise of Makuta. Will follow a legendary hero figure, though I know not of what his (or her) name will be.

-Highly Lowly Friend
Based on the story Coll and His White Pig from Lloyd Alexander's The Foundling. Different in many areas. Quite possibly a totaly different ending.

-The Trades and the Craft
Shows how Makuta benifits from other peoples greed.

-The Music of Truth
An adventurer who bends the truth also breaks his instrument...

- I am considering to tell a simplified story of Puff the Magic Dragon
don't worry, it'll be good. another from the Turaga.

Any Titles that are in bold have been or are being posted in this thread.

If there are any legends, short stories, and folktales that you know of and are willing to share, Please PM me or post an interpreted/converted version (from the original story to the Bionicle universe) here.

Enjoy!

kaukau.gif I'm not done, but wil continue with it later on. so plz excuse me if it seems incomplete. that's because it is.

Turaga Onewa looked around the Amaja Circle. His fellow Turaga were all present with an occasional translator (Nuju's matoro most notably). A large crowd had gathered round.

"By the sands! who would have thought whole villages would be present for the telling of this story!"

Whispered Onewa to Nokama, who stood in a space adjacent to his. Nokama nodded and agreed with a hint of thoughfulness:

"It seems as though leaders never part with their followers"

Nokama paused. then concluded her sentence.

"Besides, as Matau would say 'many still in life-dawn'.
No matter. The time is right to begin. I believe it is you who will start Onewa."

Onewa responded with a simple nod and raised his hammer, beckoning to the crowd for silence. The lively chatter that hovered about the crowd of villagers came to a halt as all attention and eyes were averted from whoever it once was on to go to Onewa. The Turaga nodded his head in silent greeting to all and drew in a deep breath:

In the beginning, The great Spirit Mata Nui was sent down to the land to care for all living things. It was a joyus time, all were prosporous and happy, and all loved him. In his honor, they named the Island after him.
Yet in secret, a dark shadow had followed him down to the island from paradise. Mata Nui's brother, Makuta, envied the way Mata Nui was worshiped and loved, and cast a dark spell on his brother to send him in a seemingly eternal sleep. Even as he fell, Mata Nui promised us that one day, six heroes will be sent down to liberate the island from Makuta's grasp.
All still worshiped Mata Nui as he slumbered. Even as Makuta tried to win their trust and attention with false promises and unjust deeds, the Matoran still held faith to Mata Nui.
The skill and strength of the matoran faded but still remained.

Enraged, Makuta made dark places on the island. From which sprung forth the felled beasts and evil things. Servants of Makuta, all of which brought the evil that had spread. Infecting some our own people's hearts.
And thus, all hoped and wished for the toa to come more than ever.

kaukau.gif Friend of the Mists... More will be added.

Maku was restless. She was unable to sleep for quite a time and the fire outside on the village commons did no help to bring her mind and body to rest. The dancing figures and shadows of her Turaga gleaming forth from a vial of natural, wavering, bioluminescent light seemed to keep her in her restless trance.
Yet an idle mind and body did no good to any, every Ga Koran knew that. If the great beings did not will her to rest at that moment, so be it, do something she will.

Leaving her plant woven hut, Maku could immediately feel the cool night air on the Lake as a breeze carried the light scent of land. Her village was far from ordinary, then again, each Koro scattered throughout Mata Nui had It's own distinct personality and appearance. Be it the lively tree huts of Le Koro or the cold and pensive domes of Ko Koro. Yet this was the village that suited her most. The floating Village of Ga Koro. Built of and upon the living things given forth from the water within and surrounding all of the mixed environment of Mata Nui.
Maku gingerly stepped onto the village commons pad and made her way towards Nokama's Hut, still lit with strange treasures and trinkets long ago made for and forgotten from Mata Nui's secrets.

The sound of wind over water was always a remarkable thing to her. Like an unreachable gateway to another place. As the water carries and protects many things, so does the wind. From the large, sometimes destructive water of the torrent, to the soft, mystic air of mist. And in this night, it was the latter that the wind kept wrapped around the Island, shrouding the land so as to keep it hidden for the night.

The unsteady light that lanced through the dark night and into the delicate curtain of mist began to grow stronger as She approached her village leader's home. The living platform seemed more fluidic with the water, so much in fact, that with every delicate footstep that Maku made, countless ripples would spring out and allow the plant to embrace her every move. The silence was broken by Nokama, Still facing away from Maku in her hut toiling over an inscribed slab of rock and parchment.

"What troubles you at a night so fine as this young Maku?"
Nokama had turned around. Her features were very clear, even in the encroaching curtain of mist.

"I know not of what I need or want right now Turaga. I simply know that rest is not coming to me."

Nokama's soft yellow eyes began to warmly glow as she spoke.

"Then perhaps it is time I tell you of something we have been living with since the beginning" Nokama made a brief pause and continued.

"Perhaps, it is time for you to hear a story…"

On this island, there is nothing that exists alone. The fire needs the air; earth needs the water and stone. As a gift, Mata Nui gave us one more thing; something that bridges two elements even more closely than all the others, Mata Nui gave us the mists.

In the dawn of Makuta's power, not long after Mata Nui's promise and slumber, Villages were found widespread throughout Mata Nui still. And Ga Koro and its neighbors had not yet left land.
There lived a girl much like you Maku, there were things she questioned yet rarely accepted answers too, and borders that she willingly set foot beyond any border to content others and her heart. And the binding that kept her with this world more than any other was her love for the water. She would go down to the tide, play in the surf, watch the waves and mist fold and dance before her sitting on a ledge not far from the great statue of Gali's mask.
This girl, Aiwi had lost her village to the first of Makuta's minions when her life was still bubbling out of the spring.
Fear had poisoned the tranquility within our hearts. No more was it safe to be out in the night, and though she was accepted into a nearby village, she had become sad. None would allow her to go into the water, and at night, she was forbidden to walk on the shores. Especially when a mist was present.

She was constantly looked down upon and pitied by other villagers of her hosting community. At that time, the village leader would always try scaring the villagers with stories and rumors of harmful and monstrous creatures taking villagers at night, leaving nothing but the villager's footprints in the sand. The Turaga would succeed in defeating any desire to all of the village, yet Aiwi was unshaken, she did not care, she had nothing now other than her memories of friends walking with her or showing her the beach and setting sun. She remembered her Turaga especially; who would take her out to the surf to let Aiwi play with the tide. Many times, her Turaga would walk with her to the shore and tell her long stories, the words now forgotten, yet the mood always remaining and remembered. At others, the Turaga would bring down the whole village to tell a story, none of which Aiwi could remember, but even still, she could remember her heart's feelings and her emotions, be they heavy or light, all comforted on her lonely nights.

Aiwi began to stay out of the host village later and later until the sun no longer remained in the sky. Though there were signs of concern, none missed her lack of presence; she was always distant, in or out of the village. Yet what was it that kept Aiwi out longer and longer into the night? Dancing waves and swirling mist. Aiwi had spent all of her time sitting on her favorite rock which none knew of besides her long passed Turaga, observing her only companion. The ocean, which could speak to her in soft whispers from slowly lapping waves to loudly thrashing riptides.

Soon, Aiwi was outside long enough to observe the mist. It saddened her to see it freely move about while she was bound to her selfish, relentless, and jeering village. Aiwi began to sob, crying out to none but herself. No one to bear witness of her sadness and anguish other than the mist and water, and occasionally the moon and stars.

Then one night, the mist was especially thick, its white whisps, curls, and curtain, reached beyond the sand of the beach. Yet Aiwi could no longer leave her sanctuary to face the jeering of a mean village. Once more she began to sob, there was no home for her to stay in, none were far enough or hidden from the hiss of teasing and taunting. Through blurred and teary eyes, Aiwi watched as wisps of the mist swirled around her, the water was still, yet began to whisper calm and soothing sounds to her. As she began to quiet her tears, a face began to emerge from the wall of mist. It was the face of a girl, much like Aiwi, despite the fact that she was made of mist. The Mist figure began to peer out, then, at the sight of Aiwi, hurriedly shrank back into the mist.

Aiwi, unsure if what she had seen was the result of running eyes, "mist-tricks", or a combination of both, slowly rubbed her eyes, which were still filled with tears, now uncertain of what she hoped to see. Her eyes now watched the mesmerizing wisps of mist, and shortly after she began her watch, the mist figure timidly and cautiously began to creep out of the mist curtain again. This time, both made full and complete eye contact.

With nothing left to hide behind, Aiwi gently stepped into the warm water. Though the sun had been down long ago, the ocean would almost always remain warm. Seeing no harmful intent from Aiwi, and being just as curious, the mist girl stepped onto the open water, in front of the foggy curtain. Shyness was quickly overcome by curiosity from Aiwi, and the girls quickly began whispering each other's names.

The two had soon become fast friends, Aiwi could care nothing of what her people thought of her, and could care even less of the warnings to stay away from the beaches in the night. They were inseparable, the nights would be spent very quickly with each other. Perhaps they would race, or draw pictures and shapes within the sand. They were even content to simply whisper their strange new names to each other for hours, both Aiwi and Rhenia.
Yet there were limits, for the night could only last so long, and Rhenia would slowly have to retreat back into her kingdom of mist as the fog retreated from the shore. There were also boundaries. Rhenia would only dare to venture so far out of the mist to play with aiwi, and aiwi could only wade so deep into the water before being submerged into the water.
Hundreds of moons had gone by, when the wintering period came about, Aiwi simply stayed on the shore, while Rhenia could go onto land from as little as eight bios in to, if the sea was kind, over forty! Rhenia would race about as her friend would point out the many things that inhabited the land. from plants to animals, even the native rocks and waters. Rhenia loved to watch the artesian well bubble up with water and into a rock basin.
Best of all was the growing and harvest season, that was when Rhenia showed Aiwi the secrets and joys of Aiwi's greatest intrigue, the sea itself. Rhenia would show the many fish and seaweed, point out the sea fire, when whole colonies of luminescent plankton lit up for a spectacular nighttime display, and show a wonderful array of rare flowers and fruits.
Yet one evening, Rhenia did not appear, dispite the usual mist, which was now heavier and grayer than Aiwi could ever remember, Rhenia was nowhere to be seen or heard. Night after night Aiwi called Rhenia's name out, ounly to hear the sea drown and hush her pleads and cries for her friend to return. Yet no one came.

kaukau.gif Once more alone, Aiwi had begun to wander the shores of Ga Wahi, she no longer wished to stay by her stone, where her only friend had been. The search for Rehnia wholly continued nevertheless, yet her heart had seemed empty, only able fill with pain and anguish. One icey morning, Aiwi had begun her wandering down south, for she had reached the Northern edge of the isle. Mist mingled with the sand, and frost clung to the rocks and cliff faces.
the fog became thicker as she headed toward the south, until finally it was too thick to see, her feet were lost in the obscurity. She was unaware that she had passed by her rock, her only indication of land and sea was through sound and feeling, all other senses had been blurred.
Taking a deep breath, Aiwi inhaled the thick yet refreshing air and took note of her surroundings. Columns of mist swirled about in every direction, moving back and forth. She had no hope of going any further.
Over time, her eyes adjusted to the air, and she was able to see through much of the fog, where she realized mist figures must be abounding, hundreds of mist figures seemingly searching about for something, when a whisper brushed her ear.
"Aiwi?"
The voice behind her was unsure and unsteady, and came from a male.
Aiwi turned around, only to be met by a gentle, tall, pale figure.
He repeated her name again, this time more confidently; then signaled her to follow.
The mistman was very distinctive, like Aiwi, he possesed a poised and confident posture, yet seemed warm, humble and kind too. Aiwi agreed and followed.

kaukau.gif Her senses had truly become useless. Aiwi could no longer determine what she was walking on. Each step had become lighter than the other, and more cautious, yet she never felt the resistance and wetness of water on her feet. As time carried on, Aiwi was able to determine odd structures that formed in the mist, then find a vast arch of mist. There was no more time to marvel at her discovery, she quickly became surrounded by a throng of mist figures, some pensive, some mourning, and some seemingly gratified by her presence.
The rest of the crowd parted to make a path that led to a sort of table, Aiwi's escort gestured her to go forward, and he quickly followed behind her.
There on the table lay Aiwi's friend, Rhenia, slightly gray, yet nearly transparent, with her eyes closed. The mist man who escorted Aiwi walked up and gently touched Rhenia on the cheek, then whispered her friend's name.
"Aiwi."
Rhenia's eyes opened, and turned in the direction of her friend.
All eyes were on Aiwi and Rhenia, and the Mist man gestured her to go ahead.
Aiwi instantly understood what had happened. Rhenia had fallen severely ill, and her father, the ruler of the mist people, could do nothing to stop the degradation of Rhenia's health. No medicine or ritual would cure her, and Aiwi was the only hope to alleviate her sickness before Rhenia leaves both worlds alltogether.
Rhenia gave a weak smile, and life began to fill into her eyes once more as Aiwi took her hand. Radiating from the core, Rhenia's body filled with brilliance, until light seemed to eminate from her.
