This is my first Epic!
Hope you like it! Here's the Reply Topic Chapter 1: The Warrior Within Maku awoke with a start. Every morning started like this, but something was wrong, she could feel it. Light streamed into her hut and stabbed her eyes. The light made her eyes water as she rose to her feet and let the soft, leafy blankets slip off. as she suantered out of her hut, everyone was scattering around in panic. "Kotu, what's going on?" Maku asked. "Haven't you heard? Onu-Koro has declared war on us and we are defenseless!! We're doomed!" Kotu wailed. "Where's Nokama?" Maku asked. "She's in her hut, trying to think of what to do! What are we going to do?!" Kotu ran off and dissapeared into the crowd. I've never seen Kotu acting like that! Maku thought. Maku peered into Nokama's hut and saw her weeping. Nokama was greiving at the thought of war, lives lost, permanent wounds, and other matters of war. "Nokama?" Maku asked in the most kind voice she had. "Yes, Maku?" Nokama asnwered between sniffs. "I think I have an idea," Maku said. "I will take any ideas at this moment in time," Nokama replied. "I think that we should be ready for them. We cannot be taken slaves be the Onu-Koroans or let our village be destroyed," Maku began. "Go on," Nokama said patiently. "We need to fight back." Nokama looked unimpressed at the idea. But after putting it to thought, she agreed. "Good idea, Maku. A little obvious but it's the thought that counts." Maku blushed. "Thanks. We need to work quickly. We need to bend those palm trees on the beach back towards the ground and use them as catapults. We will also need swords made of the strongest fishbones that we have. We will not need shields, our agility can take place of sheilds." Now Nokama looked impressed! After an hour of setting up for the war, everything was ready. In the end, there were enough fishbones to make shields for everyone! "Will you be in the war, Nokama?" Maku asked. Nokama shook her head. "I an the commander, and commanders usually stay out of the war. They command instead of fighting." Nokama explained. "Makes sense to me. I wonder why Onu-Koro--" At that moment, a giant horn blast called out across the land. All the inhabitants of Ga-Koro looked up to the lookout. "They're here!! I spotted them, a whole army of Onu-Koroans coming this way!!" Hahli called out. They all trained their eyes to the top of the mountain. A vast army of black, purple and orange matoran appeared on the horizon. This, is where the battle begins! Maku thought. To be continued . . . . . Chapter 2: Life: Shattered
Maku looked to the Ga-Koroans that manned the catapults. They were ready, though they were waiting orders to fire. Maku panicked. Nokama was too busy with making plans that she'd forgotten to tell the catapulters to fire! She sprinted over to the catapults and called out a single word, "Fire!" They started to cut the vines holding the trees down and the boulders began to soar. SNAP!! SNAP!! SNAP!! SNAP!! SNAP!! SNAP!! SNAP!! SNAP!! FWOOSH!! FWOOSH!! FWOOSH!! FWOOSH!! FWOOSH!! FWOOSH!! FWOOSH!! The opposing army sighted the boulders and began to scatter. Some of them were not as lucky as others. Some were crushed and instantly killed while some had an arm or leg trapped under the huge stones. This did not stop them, only death could stop them. Nokama looked to make sure Nokama was all right. She was. Maku turned back to the battle and saw that arrows had begun to fly! She drew her sword and ran out toward the Onu-Koroans while the rest of her village stayed behind. "MAKU!! STOP!!" Maku recognized the voice, it was Kotu. She had tears and a look of loss in her eyes. Kotu, Maku thought, I will come back, alive! Maku looked toward the oncoming army, they were sneering at how foolish Maku looked, of course, they forgot the words of Mata Nui. 'Looks can be deceiving!' Maku smiled at their misjudgement. They would pay for threatening her home! In Po-Koro . . . . Huki sat down to eat his breakfast, but could not eat. He felt the need to go to Ga-Koro. With that, he grabbed his Koli Ball (Just in case) and left his hut. Back in Ga-Koro . . . . Maku looked at the raging war. it had been hours since the catapults had first fired. Now the armies were beginning to retreat. Then, she saw it. Huki was coming down to help her. Maku was glad to see him and loved the thought of fighting side by side with him. A Ussaul Crab charged down the hill, kicking up a cloud of dust. Once the dust had cleared, she saw the sight that changed her life forever. Huki lay on the ground face-down, an arrow in his back. At that moment, everything seemed to move in slow moment. The Onu-Koroan armies retreated and her friends cheered at their victory. Maku screamed and hot tears flew from her eyes. She ran to aid Huki and finally made it to him. She took out the arrow then turned him over onto his back. His head rested in her lap limply. She knew the truth. but she wouldn't except it. Her best friend, her boyfriend, was gone. What do you think? This post has been edited by Levo: Apr 25 2003, 08:33 PM -------------------- |

Chapter 3: Nokama's Discovery
Maku sat there and wept bitterly. How could something like this happen? Maku thought. Nokama came up to her and put her hand on Maku's shoulder. Maku looked up at Nokama with glassy eyes. Nokama signaled for Maku to go back to Ga-Koro. "We'll keep in the morgue, for now. I found something that might intereist you," Nokama said in a way that tweaked Maku's interest. "Wh-why did he have t-to die?" Maku asked between sobs, "I would al-also like to kn-know what you f-found." Nokama smiled. "You sound a lot like someone out of a movie." Maku smiled and laughed a little, something Nokama thought she would never see Maku do again. Maku looked down at Huki's lifeless body one last time, then she followed Nokama. Maku looked around the scene. Reality had taken its toll. She counted about ten dead Ga-Koroans and nine dead Onu-Koroans. How could this ever have happened? Nokama stopped at Maku's hut and pointed to a part of her lilipad. It was the area that leaked the most in Ga-Koro. Maku was quizzical. Before she could ask anything, Nokama spoke. "I've noticed that this area right here leaks the most, why? It must be thinner than the rest of the lilipad." Maku still didn't understand. "Go on." "I think that the reason for it being thinner, is because there might be writing on the bottom of your pad." Maku was impressed. Nokama was very wise indeed! She was anxious to find out. "I'm going right now, Nokama!" Maku took a deep breath of anticipation and dove in. The icy coolness felt great on the hot day, but Maku did not think about that, all she could think about, was the writing. Maku peered up at the bottom of her lilipad and there it was an inscription. Buried in water am I, To find me, look not to the sky! I am the Warrior's sword, Sent by my Warrior's lord! I rest in fractions, For evil actions, Find me an you will prevail! Maku was puzzled. What did it mean? She suddenly noticed she was almost out of air! Maku shot up to the surface and burst out of the water, shooting several bios into the air. She landed on her lilpad next to Nokama. "Nokama, you were right!" Maku explained what the writing said and how it was made. Nokama told Maku what it meant. "A long time ago, when the Toa weren't here yet, a warrior named Nopolu would keep us from danger. She was the strongest, most fearless warrior on the island . . . . until she faced a Kane-Ra. Her spirit hid her sword, so that no one could steal it, but now it seems that she wants us to find it. Or maybe she wants you to find it and carry on her legacy! Maku leaned against her hut, having trouble taking this in all at one time. Maku looked up at Nokama, she wasn't kidding! The Water Warrior stood up and said to Nokama, "I will do it." Chapter 4: The Quest Begins!
Nokama explained that Maku would have to travel the whole island to find the three missign parts of the sword and shield of Nopolu. Maku began her quest early the next morning. This is what I've always wanted, adventure! Maku thought. As she left Ga-Koro, she waved goodbye to her friends and her home. Would she come back alive and see her friends again? She pressed on towards Ta-Koro. I remember when Huki lost his talent at Koli. We had to go on a quest to get his talent back! After about an hour of traveling, she came to the Ta-Koro volcanos. She did not expect to fight anything here, but little did she know, a group of fire lizards were lurking in the shadows. She crossed a stone bridge that had lava flowing, gushing below it. SSSSSSSSSSSS! Maku whirled around, a squad of fire lizards were inching their way towards her. One of them kicked a pebble into the lava. SSSSSSSSSSSS! So that's what the sound was! Maku thought. One of them lunged at her, she unsheathed her sword from her back and swung the blade. It hit the creature in the side of its face! With fluids dripping, the creature backed away. Another fire lizard lunged at her from an angle. Maku jumped to one side of the bridge and the lizard fell into the lava! SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!! Maku didn't look down to see the sight, because another fire lizard attacked! She swung her blade at it, but the beast dodged it. Maku brought the sword up and cut off the lizard's claw! SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! SKREEEEEEEEEEEEE!! As it yelped in pain, Maku kicked it in the jaw and it fell backwards into the others! Maku brought her leg down too quick and she nearly fell over. As she was recovering, one of them scratched the side of her mask! AAAAAAAAAHHH!!! Fluid dripped from the side of her mask, but she continued to fight! After fighting for ten full minutes, the lizards finally retreated. Maku stood there, battle scarred and bleeding. She yanked her backpack from her back and took out the first aid kit. She bandaged her wounds and moved on. Once she left the bridge, she came to a giant temple. Maku stepped inside and saw the handle of the Sword of Nopolu on an alter! She couldn't resist, she ran for the first part of the sword and snatched it off of the alter. But in doing so, it awakened a beast that lay in sleep for many centuries! Maku turned to leave, but there was a large muscular beast blocking her path. She knew who this was, it was Tapolu. Have you come for the Handle of Nopolu? The creature said. "I already have it," Maku answered. The only way that you can keep it, is if you answer my riddle! Maku agreed. The answer is one word. What is it, that the poor have, the rich need and the dead eat? Maku thought about a minute before answering the question. "Nothing." The creatures eyes turned red with rage, but he did not strike. Instead, he said, You may pass. Maku passed cautiously, making sure he didn't attack her. Once she was a good distance away from the temple, she rejoiced. She had completed the first objective of her quest! Chapter 4: Vertical Limit
Maku looked up to the top of Mt. Ihu. Even from a distance, the mountain looked huge! Though it would be a while before she got there. If Nokama was right, the next monster would want to battle her for the Handguard of the sword. That will be a hard battle! Maku thought. After a day of traveling, she made it to the base of the mountain. Maku decided to stop there for the night, for it would be a difficult climb to the top! That night, as she set up camp, she heard a shrieking sound. Maku stood straight up and drew her sword. It sounded like a Nui Jaga! She thought. As she scanned the area, a Nui Jaga shot out of the darkness and rammed into her! AAAAHH!!! Maku shot through the air and slammed into the side of the mountain, bearly conscious. She fought for consciousness and started to fight back! She used all her might to swing the sword and knocked off one of it's masks! KREEEEEEE!! KREEEEEEE!! Maku jumped to the side as the beasts tail slammed into the side of the mountain! She tucked, rolled and stood back up, ready to fight. Luckily, the Nui Jaga had got its tail stuck in the mountain! Maku took advantage of the moment and ran towards the Nui Jaga's other mask. The creature suddenly took it's tail out of the mountain and turned to attack her! Working as quickly as she could, Maku dug her sword's blade into it's leg and continued toward its last mask. KREEEEEEE!! KREEEEEEE!! Fluid poured from where she had stuck the Nui Jaga in the leg. Maku finally made it to the last mask and punched it with all her might and the mask flew off. KREEEEEEE!! KREEEEEEE!! The Nui Jaga was free from Makuta! Maku took her sword out of the creature's leg. Then she bandaged up it's leg and let it go free. Maku didn't even make it to her sleeping bag before she fell asleep. The next morning . . . . . The blue Ga-Koroan opened her eyes to a snow covered land. How could she be at Ko-Koro? She had falledn asleep at the foot of the mountain! At that moment, Matoro walked in. "Matoro, what am I doing here?" Maku asked. "We found you at the bottom of the mountain, freezing cold. I had to carry you up here." Maku blushed at the thought of Matoro carrying her up the mountain. "What did you do before you fell asleep? You were sleeping like a rock!" Maku rubbed her face, trying to recall what had happened last night. "Hmmm. Oh yeah. I battled a Nui Jaga." Matoro was clearly impressed. "You, fought a Nui Jaga?! "Yeah. Uh, listen, I'm looking for a special sword in a temple and part of it is at the top of the mountain. Could you show me the easiest path?" Maku asked. "Come on," Matoro said. Matoro led the way and Maku followed him. Soon, they were at a trail leading up the mountain, made by Matoro himself. Maku thanked him and continued on her way. After about an hour of walking, Maku came to the top of the mountain. The temple here was covered with snow and ice. Maku approached the temple with caution, not knowing what was inside. Once she got inside, she quickly grabbed the Handleguard and ran for the exit, hoping to escape before the beast blocked her path. She was unsuccessful. A slim and fast beast guarded the exit and it spoke with venom dripping from it's mouth. I will slay you before you can ever reach the exit of this temple! Maku looked hard at the beast. How could this creature be a challenge? She wondered. Without warning, the creature lunged at her and punched her square in the chest! Maku gasped in agony. AAAAAHH!! Maku slammed into one of the columns holding up the temple. It cracked when Maku hit it. she struggled to get up and finally did. She yanked out her sword and started to fight the beast. After a an hour of battling, her opponent was getting tired. Maku came up with a plan. "Hey! Over here, bonehead!" Enraged, the creature charged at her with full speed! At the last second, Maku jumped out of the way and it hit a column! The column broke and hit the other columns, like a big game of dominos! Maku ran out of the temple as fast as she could! It collapsed right behind her and the beast was never heard from again. She collpsed in the snow and layed there in exaustion. Then, she blacked out. The next day . . . . . Maku opened her eyes to the inside of a Ko-Koroan hut again. Matoro walked into the hut and sat down on her bed. "I found you in the snow at the top of Mt. Ihu. You were out cold," Matoro said. "Let me guess, you carried me again?" Maku asked. "Yeah, but it was easier to carry you downhill than up," Matoro admitted. "Well, thanks," Maku said. "Your welcome. What were you up there for anyway? You said something about a temple, I didn't see any temple." "Huh? There was a temple up there! I was in it! Where could it have gone?" "Well, I believe you. Though no one knows you're here, so you better get going!" Matoro led Maku off the mountain and waved her farewell. Maku walk off into the forest and he didn't see her for a while after that. Chapter 5: The Blade of the Sword
Maku stared at the map Nokama gave her, but she wouldn't believe it. The map told the location of the last piece of the sword, but she thought her eyes were fooling her. The third piece was in Onu-Koro! She turned her attention to the gaping entrance of Onu-Koro and felt a shiver go down her spine. Maku would soon be traveling into enemy territory! She looked at the fruit above her, cracked it open and a black liquid poured over her body. Then, she put honey on her mask and stuck her mask in the sand. The sand stuck to her mask, making it look tan, and her body looked black. The Ga-Koroan approached the guard and he waved her through. She passed into the entrance and walked for a while. After about ten minutes, she saw lights and heard a conversation which turned her interest switch in the 'on' position. "Did ya hear? They've closed mine 666! They say some creepy temple of some sort is down there. One thing's for sure, I aint goin' down there!" The other one shook his head. "And it was just yesterday you said nothing exciting would never happen here!" "I did not! Well, maybe I did," The first one objected. Maku approached the two men and asked which way mine 666 was. "Right that way." answered one pointing in a direction. She followed the directions the two gave her and came upon a mine with the number '666' engraved in a stone above it. Maku took a deep breath and entered. The last thing she heard before entering the cave was, "I think they're sending a squad down there to check it out." Back at Ga-Koro . . . . . Nokama had messengers scattered all across Mata Nui and knew that Maku obtained the Handle and Handguard of the sword, but would she be able to get the blade of the sword? She pondered this question as her messenger, Kotu, entered. Nokama motioned for Kotu to sit and explain what she had to report. "Maku is in Onu-Koro!" The young girl bursted, "She used juice from Ginko Fruit to make her body black and she put honey on her mask then put sand on her mask!" Nokama eyes shot open. "Wow! She has grown very intelligent since I have last seen her. But even with her skill, she might not make it this time . . . . ." At Onu-Koro . . . . . Maku's eyes finally adjusted to the darkness and she could see the temple 50 yards away. She had to work fast, or the squad might catch her! She entered the temple and sighted the blade on an alter. The Warrior grabbed it, careful of the edge, and attatched it to the rest of the sword! The Sword of Nopolu glowed with the brightness of seven suns, lighting up the hole mine! It was then that Endactid, the guardian, appeared. You have the Sword of Nopolu, but even with that retched sword, you cannot defeat me! Maku stood firm. She would conquer this beast and win the war! At the squad . . . . . " . . . and the chicken says, why the long face?" The squad broke into insane laughter. They had nearly reached mine 666 and were telling jokes to pass the time. Each joke seemed funnier than the next! "Knock knock!" "Who's there?" "Banana." "Banana who?" "Knock knock!" "Who's there?" "Banana." "Banana who?!" "Knock knock!" "Who's there!?" "Orange." "Orange who?" "Orange you glad I didn't say banana again? Hahahaha!" No one else thought it was funny, not even Onepu. "Ahem." "Hey, we're here-- holy Mata Nui!! What's that light?! Far down in the cave, the saw a giant spider spew venom at a black matoran with a tan mask. He, who was really a she, was hit by the liquid and the black on, 'him', came off, revealing blue! At the battle . . . . . Maku felt the vemon sizzling on her body. She jumped up and some of the venom flew off. Then she noticed it. The squad had arrived and the venom had smeared away her disguise! Next, the squad ran off to tell what they had seen. Filled with desperation, Maku fought harder than she had ever fought before! She began to see the creature's moves before they happened! Then she found out it's weakness, it's legs. Maku saw the beast lunge at her in her mind. She knew this was what it was going to do next. She jumped up just as it slammed into the wall, stunning it. She took advantage of this and sliced off all it's legs! The Emdactid wailed in agony as fluid gushed from where it's legs had once been. Knowing that the onu-Koroans would be after her, she ran faster than ever towards the exit! As she zipped by houses, she heard matoran shouting at her to stop in the name of Onu-Koro. She didn't, of course. She was only 10 yards away when arrows started to fly past her! She just sped up. In two seconds, she was out of Onu-Koro! But just becuase she had escaped, didn't mean she was out of danger. The Warrior of water ran all the way home to Ga-Koro and they hled a victory party. In a few more days, the Onu-Koroans attacked again in vain. The villages agreed on having only two people fight from each village. Those two people, were Nokama, and Whenua! What do you think? Chapter 6: Duel
Maku watched the battle field the duel would soon take place on. How could Nokama win, she was not a warrior, but a Turaga of peace! Nokama walked out of her hut and Whenua emerged from underground. The duel would begin in only a few minutes! Maku felt nervous and desperatly wanted to take Nokama's place, but she couldn't. Desperation took it's toll on the blue matoran, she shivered at the thought of Nokama losing. Someone called out, it was time for the duel to begin! Nokama and Whenua took their places in the fighting arena, Maku was more nervous than ever. The fight began, though it didn't last long. Nokama took the offence and attacked Whenua, he raised his drill and blocked her pitchfork with ease. Whenua shoved his drill forward, pushing Nokama back. Next, he dug underground and surfaced behind Nokama! She gasped as he slammed his drill into her back and started the drill! Nokama fell to the ground, Whenua stepped on her and she screamed in pain. It was then the Turaga of water fell unconscious. Whenua raised his drill in triumph, and shouted to his village to destroy Ga-Koro! Maku could not handle this, she jumped in front of Ga-Koro and held up Nopolu's Sword. The Onu-Koroans started to laugh at her and came at her strong. Maku defended Ga-Koro, the village of water was not harmed! She attacked all those who tried to pass her and hit each arrow that came at her with her sword. She was seeing what would happen before it did happen again! She defended her home for four hours, four hours of fighting! Once the Onu-Koroans left Ga-Koro, she and all her friends celebrated their victory. Nokama had come around during the battle, and said she had a surprise for Maku. In the middle of the party, Nokama pulled Maku to her hut. Maku looked around curiously at her Turaga's hut and wondered what the surprise might be. Nokama motioned to a bundle of covers and told her something. "Someone has been in my hut for a while now. Do you recognize him?" Nokama lifted the covers and Maku gasped. How could this be, it had to be an illusion! Maku rubbed her eyes. There stood Huki, stronger than ever! Maku nearly fainted. "Huki!!! The two embraced and Maku asked how he came back to life. Huki tried to explain it the best he could, but he was still unsure about it. "I think Mata Nui brought me back to life," Huki explained. Maku threw her arms around him again. "It doesn't matter how you came back, just that you are. One week later . . . . . "Huki! Watch out, behind you! AAAAHH, I can't watch!!" Maku shrieked. A Po-Koroan scored on Huki. Onewa blew a whistle. The game was over, Huki had won 23 to 15 to 7 to 21! (There are four players in Koli) Maku ran up to Huki shouting, "Way to go! You won!" Huki smiled at her. "Don't I always?" After the game, Huki and Maku walked off hand in hand. At Onu-Koro . . . . . "I just don't get it. Why did we attack Ga-Koro in the first place?" "Remember? Nokama called a meeting and Whenua traveled halfway across Mata Nui, only to have the meeting cancelled!" "We attacked Ga-Koro for a cancelled meeting?" "I, uh, guess so." After the war, Mata Nui went back to it's old peaceful self! Except for the Bohrok and Rahkshi and all that other stuff still to come. This was my first epic! Did you like it?
