Guess what? I didn't say "I'm not new here" because it's been stated several times over that this forum is for all members, new and old, that have questions. Therefore, it doesn't really matter whether you're new or not. I just had to say that. sleep.gif

Now, back to my question. How do you link to a certain post? I know that the url has to end with "entry#=" but how do I find out what entry number that post is? Anyone with an answer that they are willing to share would be appreciated greatly! biggrin.gif

Yes I would like to know how to get that to work. For example, take a look at T-hybrid's signature. He's got that epic going on, see those numbers above the picture? Those will all like to the post, not the whole epic.

I'm wondering if it's something like the search button, it'll tell you the post preview. Is that what we'd use?

Well, I know part of the answer. Putting &st=3 in the url will make the third reply to the topic be the first post displayed. I don't know what the #entry stuff is, though; when I use the links in T-Hybrid's sig, the #entry doesn't seem to change what's displayed for me. I'm not using the default board settings, but I don't think that should make a difference.

edit: It is my board settings. The entry specified in the link wasn't on the page determined by the value given to st and the number of posts that I have displayed per page, so it didn't work right.

edit: Got it. Look at the source for the page with the post that you want to link to. Now, look at the url listed for the "Report This Post" button for that post. The value given to p (&p=) is the value you want to use for #entry; for this post, the value for p is 908941, so to link to this post, you could use
CODE
http://www.bzpower.com/forum/index.php?act=ST&f=35&t=65219&st=0&#entry908941
To prevent the problem that I had with T-Hybrid's links, you may want to also adjust the value for st so that the post you are linking to is the first post displayed on the page.
CODE
http://www.bzpower.com/forum/index.php?act=ST&f=35&t=65219&st=4&#entry908941
Then again, if you do that, you shouldn't need the value for #entry, since the default is to take you to the first post on the page.

The Fallen One's Post!!

Now, let's see if it works! sly.gif

Edit: It works! Now you don't have to read through the whole topic to find a specific post in a link! Well.... at least in my links.... rolleyes.gif But thanks all the same for your help! smile.gif

I think I missed the obvious. In the source, at the beginning of each post, is a comment like <!--Begin Msg Number 908390-->. That's probably the easiest place to find the value for #entry.

Also remember that if the person using your link isn't using the same board settings as you are, and you don't adjust to a safe value for st, this could take them to the wrong page.

As always, thanks to Pohuaki for the answer. Although "thank you" no longer seems sufficient. smile.gif
