The Mask of Light trailer is now viewable by all. After viewing the trailer several times and talking to the people who created the movie, I have my thoughts.

That was a pretty good review rexy.
But vakama looks funky! And the hand and the eyes i can understand about them. But vakama eye brows and robs make him look weird. But the trailer makes the movie good looking. Just hope it doesn't turn out corny like those kid movie that come out on video. -------------------- ![]() |

Too much action for it to be corny. It looks great to me, and I really like Vakama's eyebrows. They make him easily distinguishable.
And the robes for the Turaga - how else are you going to be able to tell Matoran and Turaga apart? It makes sense. Good job, LEGO, Creative Capers, etc.! - Bink -------------------- |

The Turaga and Matoran are PERFECT. I really like them. MY only gripe is the whole thing looks... a bit kiddy. The Toa don't look... gritty enough...

I agree 100% with BR! The movie is just going to be-to put it bluntly-SWEET! Th characters look AMAZING! I LOVE what they did with the Matoran! The vest/robes the Turaga have are handy, and Vakama looks so awesomely cool! Vakama reminds me of a jedi-like character. "Use the mask as your guide, anakin-erm I mean Takua."
Congrats to all those at Lego who made this movie! Well done! Even my mum wants to see it -------------------- "In the criminal justice system, there are 2 major groups. The police, and the bakers who make donuts for them." -X-

Yeah i guess your right binky.
After all it is an action thriller. But vakama eye brows is going to take a while for convincing. This post has been edited by r2d2137: Feb 19 2003, 08:09 PM -------------------- ![]() |

I love the trailer! I expected Vakama's voice to be deeper, and Makuta's higher, but deeper than Vakama's. I think that it's interesting how the masks now have articulating jaws and mouths. Vakama's eyebrows are good, but they are a tiny bit too wide. Gali's mouth appears to have pink lips on them

I have to say i love it!! I think it was awsome. You have to respect the changes they had to make because this is a movie, and it's purpose is to tell a story and get people involved in it. my only gripe is pohatu looks funny

first off b-rex i like the review you did very well.
but still i do not see any reason for them to have changed the whole charecters look. i mean if they could make barbie show expression they sure as heck can make these toys show expression. there was nothing holding them back from creating the actual toy as the character. in the MNOLG the toa never shun thier eyebrows but instead they deepin the eyes and even though you dont know it you fell it that tahu is angry. or pohatu is happy. i still se no reason why they had to make such big alterations. it looks as if they just have armor over thier legs. they could have just gave them mouths and hands. those are the keypoints of the characters expression. they should have left the body design alone. but i must say thier cgi work is incredible but looking at the trailer i cannot tell what is what cause of the huge changes. and if you look at onewa in the slideshow youll notice he looks like some dumb guy with buckteeth. but i will buy the movie but the fact that i will enjoy it is not to be known yet. -------------------- ![]() Look what i built, It shines so beautifully Now watch as it destroys me.-Afi "the leaving song pt.2" |

Great article, BR!
Yeah, I agree, they really did an excellent job with the characters. I thought that maybe they would look too "human", but, thankfully, they don't. The hands are definitely needed, and the eyebrows look ok, I guess. And, I'm glad they have mouths, so we can tell their facial expressions. Lego/Miramax really did a fantastic job with the movie and movie characters! I hope the rest of the movie is as good as the trailer would suggest! -IT -------------------- "What in Kenobi’s name is a Nui-Rama?!" -- Zinyo Tahkanir, Jedi Knight --Toa of the New Republic

That was terrific, I'm definately buting the Movie now, I was going to anyway, but now I have an even better reason to, Vakama looks terrific, but the Matoran look... strange, it looks like Jala's Hau is a Hau Nuva, and Takua's mouth is weird, but still great, no terrific, no Amazing! Well I'm definately buying the movie now, I better start saving up.

I didn't think that the Toa were going to look that good, but they were awesome. I thought that the Matoran were very, very well done and the Turaga are remarkable. The CGI is wonderfully done and I give them an appluse.

Well written review, Rex. It convinced me to buy the movie; you should be in sales lol.
To adress some points that have come up, I like Vakama! His eyebrows are cool, and his robes are spiffy! Makuta's voice is cool, and... yeah. I was disappointed with the trailer in one sense. It put way too much attention on Tahu and Gali, Pohatu got one scene, and the other Toa didnt show up (or if they did, i sure didnt see 'em.) -------------------- |

Aha, an 'insider' review... I myself have no critical note about the trailer, for as far as I can see, they did a terrific job. Of course, with so many critical fans here at BZPower, you're bound to have people objecting. You can tell the degree of Bionicle dedication a member has just by the fact that Vakama has eyebrows: in the end, it really doesn't matter whether he has eyebrows or not. He's still Turaga Vakama, who deserves respect from us 'lowly BZ-Koronans'.
Just kidding, folks! I'm just saying: he looks better than his Lego version IMHO. But rest assured, you won't be seeing any 'Galidor Vakamas' coming out soon... --------------------

What's that circle Gali is standing on? The one with the path
leading up to an even bigger circle, they are raised well above ground level... then there is a scene where she is suprized about something right after the scene I described above, the platform was a bit like this: 0====( Circle Gali was standing on. Path leading up to big circle. Part of big circle. |

I don't want to comment on the trailer, but I do wish to dispel the myth that animated characters need hands to be expressive. Just look at the VeggieTales: no hands, no limbs of any sort!, yet they seem to be doing quite well.

Nothing needs hands, limbs, a face or whatnot. But it does help if you make characters as personable as possible . As the movie creators told me at the party, they wanted to make the characters as human-like as possible yet also stay true to the toys. The Toa Nuva will need to pick up items, fight, etc, and the best way to communicate those actions was to create hands for them. |

I think you should make a page where you click on a Mask Of Light character and you can see him in a clip from the movie where the character talks.
