Chapter 18
Lesovikk was amazed. But his dazed appreciation for his mysterious savior, Umbra, was abruptly blown apart when a fighter rushed past him, throwing Lesovikk's own ship off balance. Lesovikk swerved, avoiding the hundreds of ships whooshing past, firing barrages of lasers at his small silver streak of a fighter. Lesovikk hurled himself into the fray, trying to get through the massive wall of swarming fighters. "In the name of Mata Nui, this is worse than fighting Nui Rama!" Lesovikk groaned, rolling and swerving out of the way of countless groups of ships. He fired a spray of laser fire into the center of the group, hoping his little speck could do anything amongst a herd of Kikinalo. A few ships exploded, leaving Lesovikk a small opening amidst the gigantic armada. He put his jets on full blast, thrusting forward and hoping he had enough time to make it before more fighters closed in. "Three more seconds, that's all I need," Lesovikk murmured. He wasn't going to make it. The gap was shutting itself. And it was going to lock itself and incinerate the key. Lesovikk closed his eyes. This was going to be his last moment alive. All of his work to save the homeland he had fought so hard to regain was lost. He'd never be able to take revenge on that terrible being, Karzhani, who had caused him so much pain and grief. All of it was gone. But one being knew it wasn't all for nothing. He had gone through so much more, and refused to accept defeat or loss at the hands of one person. He knew the feeling all too well. Umbra rushed foward, at the speed of light, and crushed hundreds of ships as he went. The unbearable pain made him yell out, the sound whisked away by the vacuum of space. Lesovikk opened his eyes, surprised to see that his fighter had not crumpled in the midst of the swarm of rushing fighters. He noticed the yellow streak rushing forward, obliterating the fighters in his path. Lesovikk was in debt to Umbra. He owed him his life. Whatever caused him to do this was something that drove both of them. Whether it was a resentment from his past or remorse for his actions long ago, it had saved Lesovikk's life. Lesovikk gritted his teeth. This was only the beginning. The next moments of his life were probably going to be the hardest he would ever see. Station Epsilon loomed ahead, bearing burdens that would crush someone without the resolve to fight onward. This would be the final challenge, the one that counted the most. And he never expected that his worst nightmare lurked behind the walls of the station... Review |

Chapter 20
The maintenance entrance Lesovikk had gone in was more of a small shaft. Yes, there was an open space big enough for Lesovikk's small fighter, but beyond that it was a vast connection of ventilation tubing that would only fit him...or something worse. When Lesovikk opened the hatch to get into the shaft access, his visor notified him of a sickening realization, one that he hated very much and had noticed before; the air was toxic. And this station would normally have clean air passing through; there was only one explanation, one that disgusted Lesovikk more than anything in the world. Nui Rama. So there was a slight problem. Of course, there were no Nui Rama here, but their noxious gases managed to spread to the rest of the station via the ventilation chambers, and eventually could wipe out the forms of life that were kept here for extermination research. Apparently the Nui Rama had escaped their confinement in their enviroment chambers, which would mean they could not only be there, but in other sections of the station. Lesovikk's secondary goal (just below getting the station's extermination function operational) was to shut off the circulation of "air" from the Nui Rama's location and get clean air running back into the station, if possible. There was always the possibility that the Nui Rama had already infiltrated the rest of the station, though. Lesovikk dashed down the shaft, breathing filtered air from his air supply. It seemed so odd to see clouds of noxious fumes without Nui Rama around. Lesovikk, after sprinting down the spiral of connecting and turning shafts, Lesovikk finally reached the ventilation chamber access, and opened the hatch. And something, though it should have surprised him, just made his heart sink. The grill on the side that was used for air circulation was smashed. The room was poisoned by toxic gas, and in the center of it all, Nui Rama zipped to and fro. Lesovikk unhooked his blade from his back, and began firing at the foul creatures, cursing as he went. Two Nui Rama came at him from his right, and Lesovikk slashed them both in half with one vertical stroke. He fired energy charges everywhere, spraying Rahi blood all over the room. When the bodies of all the Nui Rama lay hacked and broken on the mucky blood-covered floor, Lesovikk stood triumphant. But he wasn't happy. Not in the least. He was disgusted, horrified. These creatures were a scourge, an abomination. Lesovikk traversed the slimy green and orange puddles of Nui Rama blood, his boots slurping and squishing with every step. He slipped, tripping and landing on his stomach in the muck. He stuggled to pull himself free. Squirming and covered in slime, he managed to wriggle his way out of the pool of blood, and stepped forward. He attempted to wipe most of the muck off him, and let it drip off of him for a while. He climbed up a tall ladder to the control booth, and stepped in. He accessed the main ventilation control file, and adjusted the settings. He turned off all ventilation in the central chamber, instead putting the pressure of maintaining clean air on the secondary chambers, keeping the toxic fumes from this chamber and the above shafts from reaching the rest of the station, allotting Lesovikk unlimited time to finish the mission, as opposed to having a time limit set by his air supply. Lesovikk climbed down, and hopped back down onto the platform. That problem was solved, at least temporarily. But he had a lot more problems set up for him in this station. Problems bigger than a couple Rahi. A lot bigger. Review This post has been edited by romansoldierdude: Apr 26 2009, 08:14 PM |
