Ok, since most of the topics here in the Q&A are about pictures and NOBODY SEARCHES FOR THE ANSWER I am making this topic.

This will be the **ONLY** topic about pictures here in the Q&A. Everything you need to know about pictures is here, or is linked to in here.

IMAGES AROUND MY NAME

What is an avatar, and how do I change mine?

An avatar is the image right below a member's name.
To change your avatar CLICK HERE. This will take you to your avatar settings that are located in your control panel. We have a HUGE selection of avatars you can use, but if you want to use your own you can. If you are a Premier Member, you can just upload your own avatar to BZP. If not, you have to upload it someplace else (I put a link to help on this above, in the what we will not be going over section). You must find the URL of your picture and put it in the spot where it says "Your image avatars". It should look something like this:

Make sure you put the right size in the 'Avatar Dimensions'. If you do not know how to do that look at one of the links I gave you above. When you are all done make sure you hit the 'Add this avatar to my profile' button to save your changes. You are all set now.

On a sidenote, if you use an avatar made by someone else, it is best if you have that person's permission.

Also, you may not use the avatar from a Admin, Moderator or ST. If you do this we will think you are trying to act like them or pretend you are them - and this is not allowed at all.

How do I get the masks by my name?

You can't add them, so do not even try. There are topics about what they mean; do a search for them. This is not the topic to talk about what they mean. Also, you may not use them in your avatars or sigs at all unless you have earned them.

How do I get the pictures under my rank?

You can get the rank image by being a Premier Member or an Outstanding BZP Citizen (OBZPC). You can't add them on your own, so do not worry about it.

What is the PE bar under my name?

What does the Online/Offline symbol mean?

If the symbol is gold, the member is signed in. If the symbol is gray, the member is either currently not signed in or is Anonymous, which means the member checked the box marked, "Don't add me to the active users list" when she/he signed in.

How do I get that spinning Vahi, Avohkii, or Great Huna underneath my name?

Members get the spinning Vahi by their name only after being here for one year. You can't add it, and you can't use it in your avatar or sig either unless you have earned them.

SIGNATURES AND PERSONAL PHOTOS

How do I get a sig?

To add or edit your sig CLICK HERE. That link will take you to the page where you can change your sig in your control panel. You just type it in where it says "Edit your signature" just like you were making a post, but make sure you follow the sig rules.

How do I get an animation in my sig?

You can put animated images in sigs the same way you put in any other image. Check the Q&A topic directory for topics on how to animate images. For flash images, use this:

As long as you don't Direct Link to BZP.

What are the size limits of sigs and avatars?

Avatars and Signatures filesize may not pass 100 KB COMBINED Unless the avatar is one of the default ones, it must be within these limits: 64 x 64 for non-Staff, 80 x 80 for Support Team, and 100 x 100 for Moderators. Administrators and Assistant Administrators have different rules.

Your entire signature is limited to a space of 800x300 pixels. You can use any combination of images and text to fill this area, so yes, this means you could have a signature up to 800x300 (however you could not have additional text then). You still need to follow the 100KB rule though.

What info is there about the Personal Photo?

The Personal Photo will allow you to specify a photo to be used in your profile which is viewable by other board members. Personal Photos do not necessarily have to be an actual photo of you: it can be an avatar or whatnot, as long as it's within the rules.

• All photos must be no larger than 100 KB.
  
• Photos must be no bigger than 250 pixels by 250 pixels.
  
• Allowed file types: .gif, .jpeg, .jpg, and .png

You can change it by clicking on the link or by going to My Controls, then scroll down to Change Personal Photo.

POSTING MY PICTURES

How do I post pictures, and what is the "Dynamic page" message?

You post pictures by pressing the IMG button that is above where you type in your post. You must know the URL (where the picture is on the web) to post a picture. If you do not know how to find the URL look in the topics I linked to above - they will tell you how to find that out. When you click the IMG button a popup will appear, put the URL of yur picture in that box and hit OK. You will end up with something like this:

Note that only .gif, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, and .swf files work here. Bmp ones will not, as they take a lot of space and load time.

If you get the "Sorry, Dynamic pages in the [img] tags are not allowed" message, it is usually caused by one of two things...

• The URL you are using is for a webpage containing the image that you want to insert, intead of for the actual image. Make sure that the URL is for the image (if it is, it should have some standard image file extension at the end, like .jpg or .gif).
  
• It's a problem with editing your sig, and you have a quiz banner already there causing problems. If this is the case, you'd just remove the quiz banner, edit your sig, and put the banner back.

You may copy an image from your site or a hosting site; otherwise, it is Direct Linking. For more information about Direct Linking, GO HERE

How do I make a picture also be a link?

This is a two step process. I will go over the easy way. First, act like you are putting a picture in a post - use the IMG button. After that you should have this:

Then, either cut or copy that and then hit the URL tag. When it asks for the http:// code, put the URL of what you want to link to, then hit OK. It will now say 'My Webpage' Put the IMG code there and then hit ok. you should have something that looks like this:

Or, you can just copy that and put the correct info in.

How do I get a picture from my computer to the web?
To get a picture here, you must do one of two things:

• Upload directly by being Premier; for more info on this, GO HERE
• Upload to a hosting site, then copy and paste the URL.

Right click on the image.
Save it to your computer.
You now have the image.
If you wish to use the image in BZPower, upload it to Brickshelf. Read the Help topics for instructions on how to display, or link to an image. Follow the instructions.

How long do upload images remain on BZP?

• Avatars that are uploaded will stay until you remove them.
  
• Attached Images disappear after a Month, even if you're still Premier.

How do I put emoticons in my post, and what is the limit?

To get emotions that are not already in the bar to the left of the posting text box click the "show all" link... There's alot of em in there... The current limit is fourteen or fifteen, but let's not go overboard and abuse the system; please try to only use a moderate amount.

EXTRA BUT USEFUL INFO

How do I get a still image from a moving picture?
When the moving picture gets to the point you want, press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard, which will save the image. Then paste the image in a paint program.

How do you locate the properties (filesize, image size) of a flash image?
There are two ways you can do this:

• You could right click on the page (not on an image) and select View Source to see the HTML.
  
• The file is also stored in your browser cache if you want to look at it, but it could be scaled on the page, so the sizes could be different.

Also, let it be known that you may use flash files if they do not disrupt the viewer, may that be automatically playing music, closing the window, or causing pop-ups. This is prohibited-- if you don't know whether it's ok, ask an ST or Q&A moderator. Don't take chances.

Is there anything else I need to know?

When quoting someone with a picture in the post, DO NOT keep the picture in the reply. Go down to the Quote box and delete it, or better, link it. The reason for not quoting pictures is that it takes more time to upload for the people with slow connections, and it's not really needed.

I think that should cover it. If for some reason you still have a question then post it - but just make sure you read what I put up. There's no sense in asking an already answered question. Any question not related to pictures should be searched for in the FAQ, then asked in the New Member Q&A if it's not found there, unless it has nothing to do with BZP, then don't ask it there either.

Yeah, well most of the time members dont read the Q&A Topic Directory or other helpfull pinned topics. They dont really pop out of the other topics and members just post their questions. Maybe it would be a good idea to give pinned topics an other color like blue or red.

You can not use someone elses custom avatar. I don't know if it's a rule (it should be) but it is a general polite rule to have. If someone is using your avatar pm him and ask him to remove it.

I'm pretty sure you can. I know one of the admins said it was okay for mods and STs to use their Mask symbols (by their names) since they earned it, so I'm sure that it applies to the 1-year icon too. Come to think of it, I think I saw a Mod using the Vahi, ST Huna, and Mod Hau in his sig. I believe it was Crankenstein, but he must've changed it by now.

Well if they PM you asking and you say yes they can, mine was madfe from Mahalis and I've gotten 3 PM's asking if they can use one of them I said that it was a demo on a shop so they could.

Well, if you're not direct-linking, then the url shouldn't be from BZPower. It should be from your image hosting site. For example, one of my pics would be www.picturevillage.com/sdfdsfdsfd.gif. The url shouldn't be from BZP unless it is an attached file or an uploaded avatar.

How to get a custom avatar

Step #1: Requesting

Find an avatar shop, a friend, or just a good artist on BZPower.
Post or PM them the criteria of your request and wait for it's completion...

Getting an avatar out of a movie or game (By Lehvak25) :
When you are at your preffered frame at the movie/game press PrtSc (Print Screen) - It's located above Delete.
Open a new bitmap image and press ctrl+v. If the program says that the bitmap is too large click yes.The use to selection tool. It's the highest right icon on the toolbar.Select the face you want and make sure it's square enough. Then follow on to the last step and you're done!

Step #2: Receving

After your avatar is complete it will be ether PMed to you or posted into the topic of the shop you requested it from.
You will most likely just be given the image, but to use it you need the URL...

Step #3 Getting to Properties

To get the URL of your image you must right click the image.
A menu will pop out of your cursor, chose "Properties".

Once in the properties menu you will be presented with the "Spec's" of the image...
Simple select the Labeled URL and copy it...

Near the top of your current BZP page you will see a link to your contorl panal...
Click it...

Step #6 Getting to the Avatar Settings

In the side bar of your control panal select the link that says:
"Edit Avatar Settings"

Go down to the section that says:
"Your image avatars"
Paste your URL in the first text box...
In the "Width x Height" area put the number 64 in each...
That is the defalt size for all BZP avatars...

The next step is simple...
Just click buttion at The bottom of the screen that says:

1. Well, during an update or movie on Bionicle.com, at the point you want, press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard, which will save the image. Then paste the image in a paint program.
2. Get a flash file, and then use the code:

Is it a bitmap (.BMP) image? They aren't usable on BZP, so if it is, then change it's format to a JPEG or a GIF file. Are you pasting the picture's URL correctly? Make sure of those things before posting again.

At Village Photos, you don't right click it to get the URL, if you to that, then it won't work. Instead, click the picture then click the text that says it will take you to the URL Page. There has the image URL, the link to the image, and various other URLs. Copy the first one (one that is a link) and put that one in the IMG file. Get it?

Okay, real quick question about Images in Sigs. Do .swf files count as images in the 1 image rule or not? I'd asume they would, but I don't know for sure, since it doesn't say anything about that in the Sig guidlines topic in the Reference Desk. Thanks in advance.

I know for a fact that B-shelf, Village Photos, and Deviant Art all work well.....the VP bandwidth thing doesn't occur unless you use it a ton in one day......

I suggest you go to Freewebs.com and make a website, it's really easy, and then upload images to that site, free of charge. That's what I generally do, and it works well.

Never mind, i found out how. However, my parents don't trust brickshelf, or any site were you must give away even the most microscopic piece of personal information. has brickshelf ever scammed (or spammed) anyone? Please tell me.

It says the URL for my comic (when I tried to post it up) was unnacceptable. Do I have to try again, putting in a different URL?

Make a new folder, and then click upload in the corner. Browse and select what you what to upload off your computer, then it will be hosted........
