The use of Brickshelf.com is a privilege granted to us by that the Brickshelf administrator, and should be treated as such. The use of Brickshelf to host Lego related items (which includes Bionicle) is permitted, However non-Lego images should not be placed there under any circumstances.

A brief study of the history of Brickshelf would reveal that its original purpose was to host MOC images for the AFOLs over at Lugnet. The folks over at Lugnet and most AFOLs still consider brickshelf to be their stomping grounds, and some have even begun to complain about BZ users using Brickshelf. However, their complaints were quickly silenced by the Brickshelf admin, who stated that while he personally does not favor Bionicle, as long as images are Lego-related they are more than welcome on Brickshelf.

This gracious offer to our community must be respected. His one stipulation for the use of Brickshelf is that BZ members only post Lego (Bionicle) related images there. All other images such as emoticons, personal photographs, and screen shots of BZ should not be placed there.

Thanks for respecting Brickshelf wishes, and in doing such you are showing them that BZ members can respect Brickshelf just as much as Lugnet members do. :)

Unfortunately, it's become necessary to put some teeth into BZ's policy regarding Brickshelf usage.

While Brickshelf and BionicleZone administration are in no way related, I have great respect for Brickshelf both for the service it provides to the LEGO online community, and my firsthand knowledge of the hard work it takes to keep a site running for the benefit of others.

I am aware that members of the other well-known LEGO discussion site, Lugnet, have long lamented and begrudged the members of BZ using what they deem to be a resource dedicated to them.  Particuarly usage of Brickshelf for non-LEGO creations, particularly emoticons & avatars.

However, the Brickshelf administration has been very generous on the subject, and even restructured itself to accomodate our users and satisfy Lugnet members who'd rather not see newly uploaded non-LEGO creations.

Despite this, a great number of BZ members seem to have ignored the policies at Brickshelf and continue to misuse the free service.

In an effort to help BZ be a better LEGO community member, all Moderators and Administrators at BZ are now given the right and responsibility to remove links to images at Brickshelf that violate that site's image hosting guidelines.

Any image that falls into the above category, and is reported to an appropriate Moderator or Administrator will be acted upon.

This removal will be done without warning and without notice.  Of course we have no control over your Brickshelf account and your image will be unaffected, but it is our hope that members will learn that violating Brickshelf policy will not be tolerated at BZ, and will even lead to inconvenience.
