There are multiple categories in the Library; games here are separated by genre. Each section in this library has 5 awards that can be given (shown below). An Award is a prize given to a game if it receives at least 80% of the total points and is better than all other games in that category. If a new game is added, or a current game is updated, and that game has become better in one of the five Awards than the game with the current Award, that Award will be moved to the new game (provided that it too, has a score of at least 80% of the total points in that category). We also give special awards for games winning a Fan Created Games contest. The different Awards are:



Aside from Awards, games are lightly rated with stars, judged on four categories: Audio, Storyline, Gameplay and Graphics. The star rating is from 0 to 5, with 0 being the worst and 5 the best. All games are sorted on star rating, starting with the highest and ending with the lowest. The star rating is based solely on the current quality of the game, which is why we encourage you to resubmit after you completed a new version of your game.

Games will be added to the library automatically, provided your game has at least 10 minutes of gameplay, unless it's an RPG or Adventure game, where is must have at least 20 minutes of gamplay
Also, if you feel your game was overlooked, and your game isn't in the FCG forum, send one of the staff a PM about it, or submit your game here, giving the Title, a link to the topic, and a link to the download. If your game is in the FCG forum, don't worry; we see it, and it is either in the process of being reviewed or it does not meet the criteria. Please do not submit your game here if it's in the Fan-Created Games forum.

To submit a review, all you have to do is PM me (Emzee) with your thoughts on the game you played. They must be divided into four categories:

Audio, Plot (N/A in Arcade and Puzzle games), Gameplay, Graphics (N/A in text-only games), and have your Concluding Thoughts at the end. Now, depending on the game you are playing, some of those categories are not applicable. It is up to the reviewer to know which categories apply and which do not. The review will give a score between 0 and 10 (decimals are allowed) for each category, and then write a short paragraph (4 to 6 sentences max) explaining what he/she thinks of that category. For concluding thoughts, no score is given, but the reviewer must explain the best and worst points of the game, and if the game, when it all comes down to it, is a must-play or not. Screenshots are allowed and appreciated in the review. For an idea of what makes a good review, take a look at the ones currently in this library.

Once you've written your review, proofread and send it to me. Excellent spelling and grammar are a must, and the review must be objective and reasonable. If the review is not up to par, the reviewer will get a response PM detailing what's wrong with the review and how to improve it. Then, the reviewer can make the necessary changes and re-submit.

If you have three or more accepted reviews in this topic, you can apply to become a registered reviewer. Just PM me and your name will be added to a list. There are two perks on being a registered reviewer:

1. I'm generally less strict on accepting the review.
2. Your review overrides the review of a non-registered reviewer instead of averaging with it (see Rebuttals below)

It is now possible to submit a rebuttal to a review, allowing there to be up to 2 reviews for each game (this is why the reviews need to be shorter than they were). It works like this: if someone submits a review that you don't agree with, write your own! Your views must different significantly from that of the original review's in order to be accepted. If the first reviewer liked the game, and you also liked it but saw only a few more problems than the first reviewer, it cannot be accepted. If the first reviewer loved the game, you must have only liked it. If he liked the game, you must of disliked it, etc.

How a rebuttal affects the game's score depends on a couple factors:

1. If the original reviewer is registered and you are non-registered, then your rebuttal does not affect the score at all.
2. If the roles are switched, the registered reviewer's score completely replaces yours.
3. If both reviewers are on the same level (either both registered or both non-registered) then the scores will be averaged.

A RPG is a "Role Playing Game" that allows the player to see through the eyes of the character, as opposed to just watching someone hop across a screen from platform to platform. RPGs are made typically made with RPG Maker 95, RPG Maker 2000, RPG Maker 2003, or RPG Maker XP, but they can also be created with Game Maker or just about any other game engine. An RPG is easy to spot because it puts a lot of emphasis on battles and even more focus on Levels (Lv), Health (Hp), Magic (MP) and Experience Points (EXP).

Intro: Flow of the River. I'm definitely acting very egoistically and arrogantly to write a review for the Software Library of a game that existed before I had even heard of BZPower. The first and original BZPower game that had inspired countless pioneers to increase the popularity of gaming in BZPower. The game revolves around a group of Matoran, chosen by Mata Nui to save the island named after him and bring the six Toa to this island, who will defeat the mighty Makuta {Teridax}.

Audio: 10/12. A mash of music and sounds from other games, the RTP, and all in all, blending in, they perfect a brilliant sound enviroment. Unfortunately, I found some tracks a little emotionless - a fact which hardly suits the island of Mata Nui which I always found too emotional to be voiced by a bland line of music that gives you emotions only in several occasions like battle, the music effect you get when a member joins the party, and several places where purely accidentally you start walking accordingly to the rhythm.

Story: 48.5/50. I found the story fun, the characters well developed, better than some bestseller novels nowadays (in reference to Twilight, mostly ), and the humor will definitely keep you playing. The amount of cliche plots may come annoying, and that Teridax, once attacked by the Chosen, fled using his famed "I am nothing" words may give you emotions that range from irritation, through rage, to insane laughter that will force you to go to the kitchen and quote that to your mum, explaining that he already used them, what to her will obviously not sound as funny. But in general, the story is a work of brilliance, and Lewaswingin and Kanohi Akaku worked it out excellently. Only recently has The Son of the Toa been claimed to have bested FotR with the story (what I partly agree to, please forgive me), but yet, it remains the only truly legit unintentional competitor to FotR. No offense to Bionicle Paracosmos fans.

Gameplay: 20.75/25. Classic. Honestly, I cannot say it is spectacular or so, but it's completely glitchless and bug-free. It's probably, among it's titles, the only purely glitchless game in BZPower. It's truly something you'd play, in the immortal words of Zarayna Toa Iden of Sonics, something "that gets boring after three or four tries". Then again, it's quite a number for a full-scale RPG game and it's pretty accurate. You'll find yourself (even if there will be pauses between them) playing the game three, four, five, six or seventeen times...

Graphics: 12.25/13. They've squeezed it all out from the engine - as my friend said, he mistook it for an RM2k3 game rather than RM95. The Matoran look purely awesome. Yet - a thing I must nag about - I'm not sure wheteter that's possible in 95, but I would've liked a different tileset for Ga-Koro. The ourworldesque tileset fails to represent it.

Overall: 91.5/100. What must be said - must be said - this game remains to this day the definitive RPG on BZPower, with, as said, to Bionicle Paracosmos fans. All of the problems of the game can be blamed rather not as much on the makers as on the engine... For shame...

BIONICLE: Mask of the Elders

Intro
After a Turaga goes insane, two Matoran must heal him from his madness to find out why he keeps repeating their names in his unconsciousness. And then, the action begins.

Audio: 9/10. Simplistic, yet fitting. Wonderful title theme. Makes the tribal-punk of 2006-2008 alive again, which is quite honestly the feel of the game too. Fits the mood almost everywhere. Great, overall.

Plot: 8/10. I'unno, the plot, while characterisation and dialogue were drawing near to perfect, I think is quite weak. The thing is, it's the same cliche story about simple villagers getting selected (even if unwillingly and nonconsciouly) by the local elder to go on some quest. And then you find out that he didn't even mean to call them in his madness. Not really the height of originality, to be honest. But nevertheless, you will be bewitched by the dialogues and the characterisation so much I'm sure you will be able to close your eyes to the flaws (I certainly did).

Gameplay: 8.5/10. Great work, man! I can't really say that it's anything revolutionary, new, or any synonyms of those words, but this game is a wonderful demonstration of how the basic gameplay of a RM2k3 game can be actually fun - probably because you concentrate on the other points, but still! Not a lot of glitches or bugs. Good work. It's a bit hard, but you always make your games hard.

Graphics: 7.5/10. And there you lost me. Maps are fine all the way from Zakaz, because before, every map is bland and underdeveloped, and that gives a player the impression the whole game is going to be like that, even if it is a false one. Tilesets and charasets are fine, though. A side complaint: in Xia, there are no Vortixx. Yeah, I know hunting down Vortixx sprites is hard, but you could just search for someone to make a few.

Concluding Thoughts: I take my hat off for Valrahk. Bionicle: Masks of the Elders is truly a wonderful game in the making. The personalities of the characters are, unlike in quite a few games here, actually possible to be distincted, and the conversations between them are so fun I doubt a lot of people will pay attention to the semi-cliche plot. The sound and the music is quite honestly great. The gameplay's simplicity in no way damages the game, for it is fun nevertheless. But the mapping of the pre-Zakazian maps needs some serious improvement.

Final Score: 8.2/10 (using RPG Rubric)

Somewhere in the BIONICLE Universe, a Skakdi tyrant rules his kingdom with an iron fist… until the Toa of Fire Tarana defeats him and banishes him to his own dungeon. There's a catch to this story, though: you're the Piraka. You must travel to all ends of your former kingdom to reclaim your rule, enduring annoying advisors, pirates, and musicians (not to mention the enemies) to defeat Tarana.

Intro
This is a standard RPG Maker 2k3 game, but there are several noteworthy features; your saving is restricted to various golden statues around the kingdom, areas are separated by an overworld system which spares you long backtracking sessions, a dual-currency system, lots of sidequests, and more. (see the Gameplay section) But where this game really shines is its wacky sense of humor. You'll definitely be laughing hard during most cutscenes and battles.

Audio: 6/12
Hang on… does something sound familiar? I coulda sworn I heard that track before. If you're a fairly experienced gamer, you'll likely be thinking the same thing as you work through this game. Unoriginal music isn't usually a big deal on BZP games, but as you play through Piraka Mania, you'll notice a pattern that makes the music selection seem all the more unoriginal: It's all Nintendo music. Sure, there are a few original and remixed tracks, but if you're a fairly seasoned Nintendo fan and have played through the major Mario and Zelda games, there's not much here that you won't recognize. To make matters worse, the tracks are usually used in about the same context as their original game, so you'll hear Lost Woods from Zelda in the forest, the Mario 64 theme in the castle courtyard, the Water temple theme from Zelda underwater, the desert overworld theme from Mario 3 in the desert… you get the idea.

Sound effects are pretty standard, with one exception: Piraka sounds like either Waluigi or Luigi, I can't tell. He shouts "Here I go!" every time you enter a fight. It's a bit strange at first, but you eventually get used to it.

Storyline: 50/50
The storyline is definitely Piraka Mania's greatest element. The roles in this game are reversed, so you're playing as the bad guy (With a name of your choice… a nice touch that's handled very well) going on an epic quest to reclaim your kingdom from the "good guy", Toa Tarana. However, the middle of the game is based around collecting the shards of your broken scepter, which would be incredibly cliché… except that the game acknowledges how cliché it is in some fourth-wall breaking dialogue... which leads me to the exceptional writing in the dialogue. How many writers can make a tyrant king likable, and a noble hero seem evil? The characters in the game are developed perfectly, from your trusty assistant, Garten, who has to explain and apologize for your character's quirks to newer members of your party, to wacky supporting characters like Phanaka, a Skakdi that is simply your biggest fan, and has the energy level of one who has drunk a thousand cups of coffee. Not only that, but your party member's personalities contribute to their battle style (see Gameplay)

Oh, one quick nerd gripe before I move on: Piraka is used as a species name throughout the game, though it's technically a title given to rogue Skakdi (the proper species name).


Gameplay: 14/25
The gameplay, unfortunately, is where this game falls apart. It's not all bad; it has many parts that work very well. The overworld system is a brilliant addition that lets you quickly get anywhere in your kingdom, while still forcing you to explore a bit. The battle system is very well balanced. Rather than overloading the battles with added complexity and features, Piraka Mania simply perfects what's already there. Battles are well balanced and challenging. (unless, of course, you find the powerup that makes your Piraka practically invincible) Each character in your party has a unique battle style, and you'll have to master each of them if you hope to succeed in more difficult fights. Each characters' skills are well suited to their personality. Piraka can belch fire and look at himself in the mirror to boost his ego. Garten can babble at enemies to confuse them. Edo, a pirate, can drop cannonballs on enemies, and Rondo, a musician, who stuns the enemies with his mad playin' skills. There are also some great puzzles that really put your brain to work.

Unfortunately, just walking around is not quite as fun. Piraka Mania doesn't use Random Encounters; rather, it has enemies wandering around (or, in later levels, chasing you) on maps. If you touch it, you enter combat. If you press Enter to initiate the combat, you'll gain a slight advantage. This means that you can evade annoying fights by using fancy footwork. To compensate for this, enemies are often crammed like sardines into tight spaces on maps (see Graphics) so you'll have to battle them sooner or later. This is where the system falls apart and ceases to be fun. In setups like this, you'll often win a fight, only to lose your rhythm of dodging and hit another enemy immediately… and repeat this process several times in a row. Or, worse, you'll walk past an enemy and somehow RPG Maker's wonky collision detection will decide that you've actually bumped into them. Though some characters have a Flee option, it doesn't do much good as the enemy stays on the field and you'll likely just bump right back into the same one.

Worst of all, the puzzles, both on dungeons and in the field, are more often than not guessing games. Very little information is given as to the solutions, and usually must be deciphered either by trial and error, or the walkthrough. The walkthrough actually is necessary at certain points of the game because the actual solutions are often so cryptic and long that they are impossible to guess (there's one puzzle where you must enter a door at 3 different positions in a certain sequence about 6 passes long.) Even the puzzles that could be puzzling are also subjected to trial and error, as it's usually not obvious what each switch does. Even a simple camera pan could go a long way towards making these puzzles fun. The strange thing is that Piraka Mania seems to pride itself on not giving you enough information to form a solution. The trial-and-error entrance-sequence puzzles are repeated throughout the game (often they will even take you to a room with no exits at all, forcing you to reload from your last save… simply because you didn't guess right), and there is more than one invisible maze. Combine these luck-based puzzles with enemy-packed rooms, and you get a game that's not hard, but very frustrating.


Graphics: 11/13
The graphics in Piraka Mania are nothing special. Most sprites aren't original, but the Piraka sprite appears to be, and it fits very well into the general style of the game. The overworld backgrounds look good, too. The map design is simply great; paths as well as side paths are clearly marked, and even though the areas are really tightly packed (see Gameplay), the areas feel vast.


Conclusion: 81/100
Piraka Mania is a great adventure, with definite ups and downs. Brilliant dialogue and well balanced zany battles will make you laugh, and laugh hard, but the trial-and-error puzzles and way-too-frequent battles make this game much less fun than it deserves to be.

Also - Instructions on how to keep your save file when updating:
1. Before installing, find the game folder in Programs (it should be under rpg2003, but I'm not sure), go into the folder called 1Piraka, and find the save files (they should be called Save01, Save02, etc. and have a file extension that is also the name of a drug, so it'll probably be censored if I say it here).
2. Copy the save file(s) to another folder outside Programs, preferably in Documents.
3. Install the game.
4. Copy the save files from the folder you created and back into the game. Say yes if it asks you to replace them.

Lego Island 3

An RPG that's the fan-made sequel to LEGO Island, LEGO Island 2, and LEGO Island Xtreme Stunts. First major 3D game presented on BZPower.

Intro: This game is single-player. You play as Pepper Roni, and you explore Lego Island, Ninja Valley, Sandy Beach, Adventure Island, Lego City, Pirate Bay, and even Mars in order to track down the Power Brick shards and defeat the Brickster.

Audio: 10/12. Awesome soundtrack, one of my favorites. While it's always good to make references to the original Lego Island by selecting certain tracks, there weren't enough custom tracks (if any) to constitute a perfect score. Nothing wrong with that though. This game still has a rockin' soundtrack. However, I would can the sound the skateboard makes when it hits the ground. It's unnecessary and even annoying at times.

Story: 38/50. It's has a good story that keeps the player interested throughout the game. However, it needs to be presented a little more clearly. More specifically, it's better to show things than to describe them in a text box. More cutscenes like the Liftoff to Mars would really help. Then, of course, there's the character development, or lack thereof. Very little seems to happen to these characters as the game progresses. It's just a "go to one place, complete the quests, and move on" type of story. Not very compelling.

Gameplay: 14/25. So-so. There are quite a few glitches, and the feel of the game is just weird because of the camera angles. For example, depending on where you move your mouse, you're not even able to see your character because the camera's inside a building and the character's outside. The camera should be a little more automatic so that doesn't happen. It'd be nice if the skateboard could move a little faster -- Pepper too, actually. As for the glitches, your fans have pretty much pointed them all out, so just fix them and you'll be fine (create a "bug list" so that you don't miss any). The Battle for Lego Island was so-so. The dogfight was a score-killer here. Usually dogfights like that are in first-person, and I think players would enjoy that much more. Not to mention the planes would be able to move quicker. The way it is now, the vehicles move way too slowly, and because of the angle of the camera, it's hard to aim. If it must be third-person, at least make it so that the camera is always behind your ship. Then there's Mars, which I don't think has a proper ending to the demo. Actual endings really help scores in games like this. Also, Pepper's arms sometimes separate from his body when he stands idly (his arms go in one direction, and his body goes in the opposite direction).

Graphics: 12/13. Terrain is good, except for really high cliffs where is seems to stretch. I'm not really sure how to fix that. I recommend using normal and bump maps if you're not already. These are really a step up from what they used to be. Now you just need to make something spectacular that we can see so that this can get a perfect score.

Overall: 74/100. This game has a lot of potential and I can tell that Tacku put a lot of effort into this game. However, the glitches need to be addressed, as they do take away from the gameplay experience. If you're a big fan of the LEGO Island games, I recommend you check this out. If you have little patience for bugs and awkward gameplay moments though, you might not enjoy this game as much as others have.

Audio: 7/12

The track is unnecessarily cryptic and thus does not suit the enviroment, but besides that it's a very nice track. Though you get bored after repettitively listening to the same song over and over. There are some sound effects that spruce the game up and managed bringing the score up.

Story: 4/13

At the beginning, the improvement since the last version is virtually invisible. Yet, the few extra info boxes add on to this score. (A notice, though - you might want to move some simply because they are placed someplace that can only be considered a war zone.)

Gameplay: 42.5/50

The physics remain well-made - most glitches are resolved and enemies now are more realistic. It is coming close to perfection. Now, battling the mutant Skakdi is fun itself, and once you start bombing every bit of seaweed there is, it resolves the problems of the old version, becoming something hardcore players would like. Most glitches are resolved - truly, it has improved almost twice.

Graphics: 22.5/25

Very near to perfection. Now just use your own graphics and this'll be awesome.

Conclusion: 76/100

There was a lot of effort placed in this game. Geekticon Heatwave has done an outstanding job on this new version and I'm sure it has the potential to become one of the best platformers on BZP, standing alongside BCG's, Anaglyph's and Biotech's work. Yet, there is always room for improvement. Knowing what you once said on your inabillity to write a story, I'd recommend you'd hire someone from the Epics forum. The Writers topic in Off-Topic has also quite a number of potential people who can write the dialogue. Those 13 points are a useful number I'd rather not drop.

A very brief platform shooter taking place in the Metru Nui era.

Audio: 8.3/10
The tracks are suspenseful and really get you pumped for the game. The track for the last "level" is epic. They're not very memorable though.

Story: 7.7/10

Considering how short this game is, there's quite a bit of story, from the introduction to the little scene with the tablet in the 3rd level. Now all Biotech needs to do is expand on this.

Gameplay: 8/10

The physics are cool, the particle systems are excellent, and the game isn't too difficult (as of now it's impossible to actually "lose" the game). Pressing F12 (to restart the level) leads to a few glitches in the gameplay though. Of course, I only had to restart the level because I got stuck trying to hop across those collapsing pillars. A great improvement would be, when the player character dies, completely refresh the level along with the character's stats. As the score suggests, the gameplay is by no means bad - it's actually quite good and entertaining. There are really two main issues: the game is a little bit short, and it doesn't currently have that competitive edge since you can't currently lose the game. This is easy improved by just adding more to the game and ultimately finishing it though.

I can't say that there's anything wrong with the tracks. It's good music, and it doesn't clash with the environment. Some of the tracks do get rather boring, to the point where I sometimes forget they're playing. The Pohatu levels have by far the best track.

Plot: 7/10
It's the first two years of BIONICLE. That on it's own makes the game interesting, but it's always better to present the story in a way that everyone can understand, including those who've never heard of BIONICLE. The cutscenes seemed rather sped-through, and the end of the cutscene with Vakama and the Guard just seemed awkward (a fade-to-black would've been so much better than the villagers just getting up and leaving). Plot really isn't this game's strength, but in all fairness, it's not supposed to be. In spades, it's greatest feats come from the next category...

Gameplay: 8/10
The physics seem rather simple, but that doesn't take away from the fun you'll have playing through. Everything is very fast paced (except for the Onua level, which could be seen as a necessary break from the almost-chaotic Pohatu level). You're given access to the characters' mask, given special abilities (ie. Tahu's "double-jump"), and presented with ferocious Rahi and Bohrok to test your powers on. There are also parts of the game which have a "puzzle" game to it, where you have to stop and think before you actually start pressing buttons. It's a very diverse gameplay experience with a stead rise in difficulty (this is definitely one of the most challenging games in this library - take that into consideration when downloading).

However, you can tell where the game starts to look... "unpolished". Late in the game you will encounter various glitches (for example, in Tahu (Level 2) you sometimes fall into the lava but don't die, making you stuck there below the level). Then, during the last Pohatu level of the game, it's possible for you to get stuck behind the rocks during the battle with the Tahnok.

Graphics: 8.5/10
Most of the graphics seem to be either from Rayg's sprite kit or from Templar. By themselves they are good graphics, but I'm not sure they blend well together. Still, the developer worked with what he had, and you're really not likely to have any problems with the graphics in this game. I especially like the particle bubbles in the Gali levels.

Conclusion
This is one of the better games that you will find here in the Fan Created Games forum. It's fast-paced and even makes you think at times. You like having all six Toa at your finger tips, as well as having a wholesome platform game experience, I see no reason why you should neglect the game (unless you own a Mac, in which case you'll need Windows - well worth it IMHO).

Audio: 4/10. A below-average quality Creeping in My Soul which has nothing logical to do there.

Plot: N/A. ...there isn't anything... yet.

Gameplay: 3/10. Alright, here goes. Demos are meant to demonstrate what the player will get to play through in the real thing. The maker, on the other hand, appear to have made this demo for nothing more than using it as proof of the game's making. And thus, gameplay is actually probably the weakest category (story can be forgiven, a lot of demos, and full platformers too don't have a story, so yeah) because, well, there's not much to play at all. You can do nothing but jump between a couple of platforms, and the jumps themselves are actually "physically inaccurate" as you can't fall into some pits where you should and you can fall through some platforms at times.

Graphics: 7/10. Despite all problems with the other categories... the graphics, at least the ones that are there, are definitely great. The only reason why they get only a 7 is because there aren't many of them in general.

Concluding Thoughts: Writing this, to my mind comes that sentence "<...> Though there isn't a story yet". ... The thing is, there isn't a game yet. Typically, games at this stage are classified as "pre-production", since it's usually the period between the ultimate beginning of making the game, that is, setting up a project, and level production, because at this point, it looks like there's been nothing done besides preparing the engine, that is, adding the sprites, programming what the objects and such each do, etc. but not yet having made a proper level. And this thing you can play in this demo isn't really enough to be classified as a level.

... To put it in simple words, this game was not ready to have a demo. And to be honest, I wouldn't recommend playing it just yet.

Adventure games involve puzzles and exploration, but they do not involve leveling up or EXP. Games similar to MYST and the MNOL games would be put into this list. Even though there is no leveling like you'd find in an RPG, there still can be combats and battles that the player has to fight.

Biotech's entry for Fan-created Games Contest #1, Havoc is a simple game of destruction based on the arcade classic, Rampage! Along with interesting gameplay and a constantly updated High Score Table on the Havoc website, much time can be spent on this game.



Audio: 4.8/5
While I really enjoyed the music, it didn't fit too well with an arcade-style game, mainly because of the seriousness it gave off. However, the tracks are very well done. The sounds are wonderful, too, and they fit the style of the game. Am I supposed to like the sound of the Kanoka Disk Launcher?



Storyline: N/A
I would have liked to see an option in the main menu to read the story, since there is otherwise no way to understand the plot unless you are a (pretty) hardcore Bionicle fan. Keetongu didn't look too angry, but the Matoran are portrayed well, even more so because of the purpose they serve in-game.

Gameplay: 70.5/75
There is only one glitch I managed to fine, but it's not a very big one. If there is a bomb that does not explode when the game goes to the next level, the sound of the bomb will continue to count down, then loop at the bit right before it should explode and the game keeps playing that sound effect. I had to turn my speakers down a bit, but when a bomb was placed and blown up, the sound stopped. Aside from that minor glitch, the gameplay is very nice, but a little bit on the basic side of things. Sometimes that is actually a good thing, but Havoc felt just slightly bland because the levels usually have more buildings and Matoran shooters. I really like the Matoran on the rooftops of the buildings; that added a nice touch to the game. It seemed long to me, and that sort of keeps me from to finding time to play while still trying to get a score. Speaking of scores, the High Score list is my favorite feature, and it is well executed.

Graphics: 14.4/15
Keetongu didn't seem as smooth around the edges as the rest of the graphics were, but that is the only problem I have with this aspect. The background is stunning, and the buildings are very well done, especially when they have the fist holes in them. The airships in the background are nice, too, and the Vahki Hive let you know that you're in Metru Nui.

Overall: 94.8
This is a game that will be enjoyed by many BZPers, and I think they should be encouraged to share it with their friends. Most of the 'negative' points that I stated are minor things that will probably go unnoticed, which is great for the target audience. A great arcade game, to be sure.

Intro
An entry for Fan-created Games Contest #1, Mask Rush is an arcade game created by BZP user Ary. The game is set in the Bionicle storyline year of 2001, starring the Toa Mata (at least their Kanohi) and the various Rahi of the island of Mata Nui. The Toa (controlled by the player) must fight their way through hordes of beasts of all shapes and sizes reach the final wave and combat – and hopefully defeat – the Makuta.

Audio: 4.6/5
For the most part I enjoyed the single track. Arcade games usually have only one musical track, so I don't mind that there aren't any more tracks. The theme is catchy, which appeals to people, especially since it sounds neat. Perhaps it would have been best if it have been more… tribal… to fit the 2001 storyline and the game. Some bongo-type drums would have been nice but aren't necessary, that's just my thought on the music. The sound effects, however, are a different story. The explosion sounds fit extremely well in the style of the game as well as the different sounds of the Toa's attack.

A simple, straightforward story. What more do you want form an arcade game?


Gameplay: 70/75
The idea in itself is unique, so I applaud Ary for that. The tutorial explained most of the rules, however I didn't recall seeing anything to show how to fire, but I may not have noticed it. Also, at the beginning I wasn't sure how to leave the box that the mask was in, then I wasn't sure about the circle that trapped the mask until I used Pohatu's attack to escape. After those two things the game was very enjoyable. The waves of Rahi were well planned out, with the difficulty increasing with each new wave. The different attacks and speeds the Toa had added another layer of depth to the gameplay, which is nice. The play could figure out which Toa suited him best. Sometimes the game lagged a bit, but the developer warned us of this, so that is not too much of a problem. While there is no replay value per-say, the player will want to battle Makuta and beat the game, I'm sure. In that regard I was reminded very much of 80's arcade games. There are several other features, but if I mentioned them this would be a lengthy review, so check out the topic to take a look.


Graphics: 14/15

The graphics fit the theme very well; the glow of each Rahi and the mask gave an 80's feel that I loved. One could tell the difference between the Rahi and the different Kanohi, and the amount of detail with simple lines is outstanding. The only thing that could make them look much better is if the graphics had color.


Overall: 93.4
A very well executed game, I must say. Aside from the very few negative things I pointed out, this is a game that anyone could enjoy and really should enjoy. I encourage anyone who likes arcade games to take some time to play this. Good job, Ary and team.

Intro


This is a simple game presenting you the 2008 storyline in arcade form. It's simple, quick, and impossible to play only once. Read on for details!



Gameplay: 62/75. This game's pretty cool. You fly around shooting down Makuta and Shadow Matoran, and it even presents a challenge - I actually lost a couple times! You basically use the right mouse button to move around and the left mouse button to click on the Makuta/Matoran and shoot them down with a light beam. Pretty simple gameplay. The only big problem I have is the fact that it is possible to fly off the screen. That needs to be prevented. A full screen version would be nice too, as a couple times I had accidentally clicked outside of the window while playing, so I had to scramble to get back to the window before I had blasted to oblivion. All-in-all, you play these games for the gameplay, and this really takes the cake when it comes to that.



Graphics: 9.4/15. The text on the title screens are a little hard to read since they're black on (in some places) black pixels. Besides that, I saw no problems with the graphics used, except for the particles. It's nice and all, but I don't think Makuta are supposed turn into pixie dust when they blow up. Altering the particle system so that it looks more like fire (or a light beam, or what have you), would really improve the look of this game. Of course, the sprites used could benefit from a smoother shade job, but honestly, what sprites here couldn't?

Story: N/A. You're essentially playing the 2008 storyline. Nothin' wrong with that. It's certainly something.

Audio: 3/5. The music for the first two mini games did not match the feel that one should expect when playing an arcade shooter. It sounded like something out of an RPG cutscene. It was fine as a title piece though. That and the awesome track for the third mini-game really helped this score.

Overall: 79.4/100. Not many people seem to talk about this game. That, or I just haven't been paying attention. Better sprites and perhaps changing up the tracks for the first 2 mini-games would be the easiest ways of improving this game. If you like arcades where you blast enemies out of the sky, give this game a try (rhyme!) This game is both simple and fun - definitely something I would play again if I had a lot of time on my hands.

Gameplay: 52.5/75. It's a very fun game, and at the first scenes of the game something just screams "LEPPY CREATED THIS" at you. Sadly, I found no major innovative features and a surprising number of glitches. Though, it might just be the fact that Leppy repeated that same style so continuosly it went to the extent that it doesn't seem as good as Leppy's previous games. The tutorial, meanwhile, although it is not useful much since the controls are already shown prior to playing, seems unfinished as it merely informs you of how to move. If you start something, you've got to finish it. The score system is much of an annoyance because an enemy takes away waaaay too many points and killing an enemy gives you too much. Meanwhile, the physics correct all errors, except one - a Visorak's Rhotuka flies without falling, while the player's Rhotuka has perfect physics. Jumping is also brilliantly mastered, but when you jump to a ceiling, you hit not the ceiling but the border of a sprite. However, the game is extremely difficult and I can't fathom why.

Graphics: 9.5/15. The graphics, all in all, are nice, though I must nag about their appearance in-game. The ground tiles don't seem to suit the enviroment because their differences, although not necessarily noticable, are too illogical to be real. And I can see borders around the platform tiles. The sprites lack, say, two or three more animation frames.

Story: N/A. We only know of the setting, and we only do from the topic. It is an arcadey platformer, with more emphasis on the arcade part, but I'd still like some story in the game. It wouldn't do much, but it'd be an extra plus - a plus most arcade/platformer/puzzle/etc. programmers ignore.

Audio: 4/5. The audio does not necessarily interfere with the game - it isn't boring so players will still be eager to play the game, but it does not influence players to play and will not necessarily give any emotion because there are, apparently, three tracks, one of them Gravity Hurts. It's just there, and it is probably the good part. It blends in with the mood so good you don't even notice it. The tracks are written fine, but they, if you stay in one place for a while and don't concentrate on blasting off every enemy the game has to throw at you, you eventually realize how boring it is that there is one track playing through the whole game.

Overall: 71/100. Honestly, I was expecting more. It's a very fun game and can give you half-an-hour or an hour or two or eleven of entertainment. It might just seem that way for me after playing several other games made by Leppy - but it seems Leppy just gave too much thought outside the box and forgot to look inside if he forgot anything. It's those little glitches and that big unfathomable difficulty which fell this game's rating quite down. The game is going to be a blessing for hardcore gamers, but it will disappoint ordinary casual gamers like me.

Audio: 8/10: The music had a lovely midi flair. It was nothing to write home about it (and certainly not a soundtrack I’d want to download and listen to for fun), but it suited the arcade, 8-bit style of the game. Many of the pieces recalled other Bionicle music – the “Game Over” music, for example, was a midi version of the original movie soundtrack. (Apparently there are MNOG songs as well, but I left my only copy of MNOG on the last train out of Belgrade before the Great War so it’s been a while.) My only problem was that I found myself thinking of the original songs wistfully – this music could have been a little less synthetic and a little more natural. Its retro style seemed a little forced.

Plot: N/A: Try to realize the truth: there is no plot.

Gameplay: 7/10: I had fun playing this game, for a little while at least. The levels started out easily enough that I was able to get the hang of moving around and shooting pretty quickly (though the controls were a little slow for my tastes), and I enjoyed finding out what special attack each Toa had. In fact, the special attacks were my primary motivation for playing each new level. Aside from that, they’re mechanically identical. The pacing of the difficulty was done well; I stopped because it got a little hard for me, but it was nothing that a more serious gamer couldn’t handle. The boss fights at the end of each level added to the variety, but their attacks were far too deterministic to be of any real challenge. The main gameplay flaw is the lack of variety: as I said, after the first few levels you realize that it’s just more of the same until you die of sleep deprivation (or die in-game, I suppose).

Graphics: 4/10: The graphics, unfortunately, were a little like Paddington the Pixel Monster with a bad hair day. I’d show a screenshot, but whatever XNA rendering engine they’re using seems to be blocking my “Print Screen” from working properly. Now, I have nothing against pixels, but the graphics in this game gave me the impression that they were all created by different people (note: I don’t think that this is the case). The shadows were inconsistent, and the attacks (both yours and the enemies’) looked out of place. Aside from the shadows, though, what bothered me the most was the tiles: Even though no motion or gameplay was tile-based, the backgrounds were all divided into little RPG-Maker boxes. This game was built from scratch; why do the graphics have to fit into the squares of a waffle? It seemed to be only a convenience for the developer (or perhaps he was hungry for waffles).

Conclusion: Now for the important question: would I recommend this game? Short answer: no. Long answer: this is a pretty fun game, and it kept me entertained for a few minutes. It started getting a little too difficult for me, but that doesn’t immediately disqualify it. I just didn’t have much motivation to keep trying. There isn’t much to this game: the graphics are ho-hum, the music does its job (well) and gets out of the way, and after trying out each Toa’s power in each level there isn’t much to live for. No new enemies. No power-ups. Just endless waves of kraata and 8-bit rahkshi. The boss levels are a small step in the right direction, but they too get old. If this game were polished up, given a facelift and some variety, I would recommend it. As it stands, though, this is a moderately fun way to spend ten minutes.

It opens up with Mata Nui introducing himself as the president. He gives you the tools and the money, and you get to work. Toa Nuju, Zesk, Lewa Mata, and the Bahrag also make appearances.



Gameplay: 57/70. The tutorials are pretty helpful, but sometimes it can't be confusing as to what you can and can't do. It's also unclear as to what really affects Guest Happiness. I did all sorts of things and the percentile just kept getting lower. It's also not clear in the game which features are available and which aren't. Just having that kind of info in the topic isn't enough - that needs to be in the game itself. Besides that, I'm quite satisfied with the actual game mechanics. It resembles the original games pretty well, and I'm loving the creativity put into this production. Lots of points are going towards that.



Graphics: 10/20. Graphics, as the screenshots have shown, aren't much to write home about. However, it seems pretty evident that once the functionality of this game is solidified, the graphics will be next on the improvement list. Or at least I hope so. I'm really not feeling the look of the larger rides.

Audio: 6/10. The "sound FX" part of this game gets high marks from me. It's the music, or lack thereof, that I'm not liking. The title screen music was great, but how about some tunes to work and build your theme park to? The dialogue in this game... wow. The voices were awesome, and Zesk... just play the game guys. Play it for Zesk and his woes with being a Sop Director. I applaud HI here for pulling off some of those phrases, and not bursting into laughter halfway though!

Overall: 73/100. This game has some missing features and isn't up to its prime yet, but it's certainly getting there. If graphics don't bother you, you'll really love this game. Not nearly enough people have been giving this game the attention it deserves, even though it's definitely a new thing and not the same RPG-Maker or Platformer type games we've been getting.

The game lets you choose your element, then wastes no time getting you right into the thick of the action!

Audio: N/A. No Audio, this is a console application.

Plot: 5.5/10. As a whole, the plot is very simplistic. You follow through this original story, but there's no mystery and it didn't garner enough interest to me as a player as it could have. The descriptions and dialogue also are a bit hard to understand at times.

Gameplay: 6/10. The game dances between being obvious and being unintuitive. It's not always straight-forward which choice to make, but in some other times, you wonder why you're even making the choice anyway, since there's obviously only one logical choice. There are also glitches where the game will continue even after the GAME OVER, and there's a critical error at the end of the game if you make the wrong choice.

Beyond that though, this is a very different type of gameplay, and it was very easy to pick up and get into.

Graphics: N/A. Nothing graphical in this game -- this is a console application.

Overall: 58/100. This is a good effort at giving us something different, but as an entertaining piece of software, it simply doesn't hold up.

Level 1:Ta-koro.
Enemies:nui wan tanohk Level Boss-Woru-Laki
You are Tahu and you are in the beach.follow the foot prints and destroy any nui wan that appears.Once you see trees-the prints are between them-go through and you are half way to Ta-Koro!Fight the Tahnok and go to the castle.Thats Ta-Koro!Go inside and you will see a lever.Go and stand on the front of it.Press SPACE and you learn about levers.When you are all levered up,go to the entrance.Well Done!You are in Ta-KOro!Go to the Ta-Inn to save your game or go and buy some things in the ta-shop or go to Tahus hut near the the Ta-Shop.Kaiwera is here.When you speak with him,he tells about the lavasurfboard,which is with the chronicler(Takua).Exit the hut and go to Vakamas hut.When you speak with the captain(Jala),he just says stupid things.Speak with Vakama and he says about Worula and Olaki.Exit the hut and exit the castle.go to the charred forest and go to the bottom.Go left and up and left.You will see a maze.Go left,then down,then left,then up,then right,then up,then right and then up(Phew!).If I did something wrong,tell me.You will start talking with Worula and Olaki.The turns black and then Tahu will be at The Tahnok Nest.You cant go out.Go up,then right for the lever,then up,then back and up.You can find out about the others by your self.When You see a large room,you will start talking with the other toa.once finished talking,You will fight the boss,Woru-Laki.Once you destroyed him,you will be back at the maze.DONT GO BACK TO THE DOOR TO THE TAHNOK NEST!!!!!!!!!Doing this you will get stuck and start or open a saved game.Go back to ta-koro and talk with Vakama.Then go back to the beach and head to the boat.Choose yes and you will go to the next level.
Level 2:Ga-koro
enemies:gahlok Leve Boss 1:Infected Nokama Level Boss 2:5 gahlok
When you have arrived in Ga-koro,go left,then up,then right,then up the stairs.Speak with Maku and she tells you that Nokama has been kidnaped
and you must find Gali to find her.Go down the stairs and you will see a cave.That is the...GAHLOK NEST!If you go back to your boat and choose Po-koro,it will say that you cant go there yet.If Tahu enters the cave,he says "I must find Gali first!".When you see the nest,go right and read the sign.That is Ga-wahi.Now you will start fighting with Gahlok.Go up the stairs and you will see Gali.Talk to her and she joins you.Go back to the nest and you will see the chronicler(Takua) and a Ga-koran(Kotu)When you enter the cave you see that the chronicler(Takua) and the Ga-koran(Kotu) will start talking.When you are inside the nest,you should find out to find Nokama easily. When you see A large pool,you will fight Infected Nokama.When you destroyed her(Horrible Thing),she joins you and Gali leaves you alone with Nokama.You will see that you are on a room.Go on the left and you will have a chance to save your game.You will a nasty 5 Gahlok!When you destroyed them,you will go back to Ga-koro.Go to Nokamas hut and she tells you about Gorato.Exit the hut and make your way to your boat and go to Po-Koro.If you go the nest and fight Nokama again,she joins You!If you did that twice,Tahu will leave the party(I think).
Level 3:Po-koro
Enemies:Pahrak Serphiroth(Final Fantasy?!) Level Boss:Gorato and Nui-Laka Pakati(if you speak with him)
As soon you arrive at Po-koro,Talk with Tader(No,I call him that!)He tells you where Po-koro is.If you go by the fot prints,you fight Pahrak.If you are going on a stair,you will fight Pahrak.When you finish talking with Tader,go left(The way you are facing),then up.You will see PO-KORO!!!!!Go where you can see a field.Thats the Koli Field.Talk with Huki at the left.He tells you about rubbish.Go to the largest hut and speak with Onewa.He tells you about Gorato and Nui-Laka.If you want to buy some thing,you will see the shopkeeper on the top of a hill.You cant jump.Go where theres a bridge of rocks.Go under,and up.You will be with Daul(again,I CALL HIM THAT!).To find Pohatu go where you can see a path made of concrete.Theres a sand hill in there.You cant get through.Go back to Po-koro and go inside the hut on the left.You will see Pakati.Speak with him a he tells of you stealing things.Exit the hut.go to on the middle.Eat all of the food and the sand hill has vanished.If you want,go the hut on the right.This is Hukis hut.Go to the chest and open it.you will get a fat 500 COINS!Go where there was a sand hill and go straight left,then up,then right,then down,then right.You will see Pohatu Running.Go and speak with him and he joins you.Go to the well.Get the key and go back to Po-Koro.Go down(You exit ok?) and when you see the way to the quarry,go down.when you see Pohatus Miru,Pakari and Kaukau.go where theres no mask(Between the 2 little sand hills.).A passage is opened and go up,then left,then down.Go where you can see wood and go through the passage.You will see a lever.go to it and press SPACE.You will talk with Mahiriki.The answer is Gapuha.Go through the passage and go up.Speak with Cloud(AKA Serthiroth)Battle him.A passage appears.Go through it and go up,then left,then up.You will be back at where the wood was.Go to the cage where there are more skelitons.Go through the passage and fight G and N-L!Go through the passage and open the chest.When its opened,press SPACE in front of it again.You will get the tresure......A KRANA XA!Bring it back to Onewa.Along the way,you will see Pakati.To dont fight him,DONT SPEAK WITH HIM THEN!If you wish to fight,speak with him.BEWARE:If you fight him,he will do sometimes a thing to one of the toa.Poison I think.In a few second or minutes,one of the toa dies.To cure him try using a Pheonix Down.If it does not work,YOU WILL JUST PLAY AS THE OTHER ONE!before taking the xa to the Turaga,Go back to Hukis hut and speak with him.Pakati appears.Speak with Huki again and after the talk,Huki will go and tell onewa about the Stealing thingy of tahus.If you let him escape,Tahu says sorry but its too late.go to onewas hut.After the talking,go to where you saw the cave go inside and go left.Prepare for the hardest battle.
Level 4:Onu-Koro
Enemies:Nuhvok Level Boss:The 3 most feared(or what ever)
To find Onu-Koro,keep going left,then down,then left.repeat this until you cannot go down again.Enter the left.You will find yourself in....................ONU-KORO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Go down.when you see a hut with doors,go inside.Speak with Nuparu.Exit the hut,find the largest hut and enter it.Speak with Whenua and go outside.Go and save your game or buy something.The most expencive item is the Great Sword(cost:2000 coins).Go until you see a tunnel(not the one you came through).Then,go all the way until you see a well.Glitch:If you dont want to fight the Nuhvok,go down until you see a matoran called Ste(read on to find the 3).Go to the well and press SPACE.After talking,speak with Ste again.You will footsteps.Speak again with him.Go to the footsteps.When you see a pyramid go left a bit then leave the button.You will see Tahu and Pohatu walking without the Keyboard.You will fight the boss.Once they are back at Zuto Nui(i mean,after you won the fight),go back to whenuas hut.Speak with him.After the Blah,blah,blah,you will see a short movie.When you are in control of Gali,go to Po-koro then the Koli field.Speak with Kafua(Purple guy,OK?!).You will see anmother movie.When you are in the bed room,speak with Kenapara.After Blah-ing,go to the cable car(Go outside Ta-Koro and go right,then up the steps.Speak with Koj(I CALL HIM THAT!!!!!!!!!!).When you are in Ko-wahi,go left,down the steps.Make your way to Ko-Koro alone.Go to the largest hut wnen you are in ko-koro,speak with Nuju.After talking..........CONGRATULAITIONS!YOU HAVE FINISHED THIS VERSION!!!!!!!!!!

Dark Destiny of Tewzo, thanks for the effort, but I can't review my own games. Only Cyrahk or Nightvol can review it and send it to me.

So here's the update: if you want your game to be recognized, please post a link! Any "link in sig"s will be ignored.

Also, it will take awhile before Takua and the Gift can ever be put on the list, as I do not have the game (and there's no way to get besides Freewebs, which I never download anything from).

Hey, I noticed this topic isn't doing to well lately, but when you get the time, will you test and put Bionicle Network Transmission up? I's uh, kinda long though and you might want to play it through the RPG maker so you can use the testers CTRL button.

First thing, I'm really sorry for the lack of updates. I've gotten really busy, and I guess my co-testers are busy too.

2nd thing, Software games will tend to not be put up shortly after requested because my comp. frowns upon GameMaker games. It frowns upon RMXP games too. I recommended posting what program is used in making the game.

Hey, might I suggest Nidhiki of the Shadows for your team? He plays a lot of games and let me tell you this first off. HE IS FAST! So he could really help you out. Just a suggestion of course.
