I'm downloading the Insurgent now. It's downloading fast.
Edit: It plays in the size it would be In a window at full screen.

Like I've said, if you're using the old beta link in the topic, you're downloading the old version. Wait half a moment for the new one. tongue.gif

It might be due to your signature saying august 29th. And you should edit the topic subtitle.

QUOTE(Fan Created Games Forum Rules)
  • At least 3-4 games available to play - demos, partially completed games, or finished games.

This topic does not follow the Fan Created Games Forum Rules. Company Topics must have at least 3 games to download, and right now this topic only has one. If this topic does have 3 more games to download, or Black Six was setting this rule as a requirement before creating a Company Topic, and once said Topic is created, this rule no longer applies, then I misunderstood.

Post-Forum Upheaval Update

Well this is an interesting turn of events. How often do you get to turn the clock back 6 months and remember what things were like back then?

Thankfully, the majority of our key data has been stored off-site, so Biotech is alive and well. Let's just recap the major highlights that were lost and move on from there. smile.gif

October
Release! On October 17th, we released The Insurgent. The download is still active, in fact, we got a number of new downloads even while the forum was down.

We also got a large number of reviews for the game. Thankfully, we have these safely backed up so if you posted a review and don't want to go through all the trouble of writing another one, just drop a PM and we should have your comments. Here are a few highlights:

QUOTE("Zarkan" date="October 26 @ 2008")
Graphics: Simply AMAZING. The sprites are all very well detailed, the animation is very nice, and the effects are JAW DROPPING. Sparks flying, rubble breaking, glass smashing, dust and fog, explosions - it's all here, and looks beautiful. There's even hanging cables that move when you touch them - which really shows the attention to detail in the game. 10/10
....
Overall, this was an amazing experience, Iruini. You have seriously blown away every other BZP game in the graphics, presentation, and sound departments, and the gameplay is very cool as well. This is easily the best short game ever put on BZPower, IMO. Awesome job.

QUOTE("Hatok" date="October 18 @ 2008")
Overall this game gets a 14 out of 15, it may be short...but it is still nothing short of professional.

January

New concept art of the fireflyer enemies.

Late January/Early February

New concept art of for some of the things you'll see in part 2.

And beyond...
So where do we go from here? While the forums were down, we put in a lot of extra work on the upcoming patch and its accompanying features. We're currently poised to release at least part of this new feature set within the next few days, so stay tuned! smile.gif

You can always count on IN to save the day with his stock of prior knowledge. It's good to have to forums back.

We may have some new things to share later tonight. Keep watching.

Ok guys, the Staff meeting held on friday went pretty well as we discussed the future of The Insurgent.

With new bosses that could fill half the screen and enemies that react to your location you can be sure that the next installment will be as good, if not moreso, as the first.

So hold out for those achievements!
They're worth it!

Yep we're working on some more epic battles. biggrin.gif Of course we'll also be upping the difficulty gradually as the game progresses. The first part gave you a nice warm-up, now it's going to get a little more interesting...

For sure it will be more epic and more interesting. Though we still have yet to make achievements for part two be sure to sign up for part ones achievements when the new system comes up.

Erm, question: What does the Insurgent and the art section have in common other than your drawings?

The art topic though, as Dwan said, will be posted in the following months. Its in the beginning of planning stages and development but what things we have planned so far sound impressive if you ask me. (then again, Im staff so arent I supposed to say it sounds interesting tongue.gif )

Correct, seeing as the beta ended months ago, we aren't in need of beta testers at the moment.

I'd get back into practice. tongue.gif

I don't want to give an exact estimate of the release for Part 2 yet. We've got...eh...maybe one quarter to one third of the levels done already.

And yes, the core is built with Game Maker, with a rather wide variety of other programs to supplement it. Our other applications (Dynamics, ColorGrab, etc.) are usually a combination of a GM core and other custom code that I write.

ColorGrab?
What's that do?

Link

In brief, it's a color picker. It allows you to select any color on-screen and get a full analysis of it (Hex/RGB/HSV/CMYK/etc.). Really helpful for web/graphic design. For instance, if you wanted to match a background color on a website, rather than going through the source code or copying an image into Photoshop, ColorGrab can get the Hex for it immediately. I've also used it to grab colors from my own games before too when I didn't want to go back and figure out which variable it is. tongue.gif

It also lets you save that color. If you're working on a web project, you can save multiple colors into the same document to keep them grouped, or if you want one color to be separate, you can save it to its own file.

It's been featured in a few E-Zines and we've recently been getting an increased number of hits from blogs too.

It's also great if your a pixel artist and use something that is not that good - MSPaint - and you don't want to open the cstom color menu and try and try and try to get that needed color. I actually haven't used it, but that's what I imagine it would be used for.

im DL'ing the insurgent right now, and...

the pictures of maze of shadows 3d looks like the game runs off of Halo:CE's Graphics engine, especailly by the fuel rod gun, the halo font in the main menu, and the rocket launcher seen in some of the screenshots tongue.gif
so tecnicly, you should give credit to microsoft and bungie studios for a part of that unfinished game laugh.gif

wow, thease are insanly good.
im DL'ing the insurgent right now, and...

the pictures of maze of shadows 3d looks like the game runs off of Halo:CE's Graphics engine, especailly by the fuel rod gun, the halo font in the main menu, and the rocket launcher seen in some of the screenshots tongue.gif
so tecnicly, you should give credit to microsoft and bungie studios for a part of that unfinished game laugh.gif

The halo models/content were only temporary placeholders. Development on MoS3D has been at a standstill for quite some time. (Much to my own dismay) tongue.gif
