Why does it seem like so many people use Garchomp? Looking around on Wi-Fi, looking online at people's "best" teams, looking at Champion Cynthia, it seems like so many people use Garchomp.
What's the big deal with him?

~Zhalath

It has a 600 Base Stat total. Only a few non-legendaries have that. Amazing choices. Outrage, Sub+Swords Dance, Scarf, Band. Only two weaknesses. It can hit most OUs Super Effective. Sand Veil. It's being considered for the Uber tier. Shall I go on?

-K-

What other non-legendaries have that total?
And I don't like Outrage or stat-boosting moves.
What's in Garchomp for me?

...So basically, you don't like moves that are actually usefull?..

Anyway, Tyranitar, Dragonite, Metagross and Salamence all get 600.

But Slaking gets 670.

Yeah, but Slaking loafs.
I prefer Pokemon that have good stats in the first place. To use a turn to get a stat boost in is a turn you could've used to fire off another attack. I like to play all offense.
Outrage confuses you at the end, and I despise confusion. It not only prevents you from attacking, it can make you hurt yourself. Not good.
The only thing I hate more than confusion is paralysis.
On that note, I don't like status-dealers either, except for ones that work in combos, like Hypnosis/Dream Eater.

Then a lot of competetive battlers will get the upper hand on you. Outrage's confusion effect can be countered with a Persim Berry, while using a stat-enhancing move one turn can save you from, say, Endeavor or Reversal.

But they'll hit again. I'll take the damage now as long as I can keep dealing it. Of course, my experience is probably not very good, as I've never battled another person with the battle ending naturally.
I'm used to fighting NPCs, who's tactics are different than human tactics. Berries are one-use, so I can only get one outrage in anyway.
I hate Endeavor, but that's because I tend towards the Drow school of tactics. I also have a preference to things that are somewhat useful in all situations rather than things that are really useful in certain situations. I also like flexibility.

I was wondering, with all these terms flying around, what constitutes a tank? Or a sweeper? I'm not used to using such terms.
Also, I'm sorry if I insulted anyone with my posts, as Deep Purple seemed to have took offense at my statements.

After playing a little bit more, I've decided that indeed, stat-boosters are worth it. But buffs are certainly preferable to debuffs.

Whoah. I was EV training my Deoxys with Magikarps, and right as I finished up on speed he leveled up to 51. His speed went up by 39 points. I thought it was supposed to be spread out until level 100? xD

It does. At level 100, there will have been more of a gain than 39. ;)

@ Dark Lord Zhalath: A tank is a bulky Pokemon who can heal itself via a recovery move. A sweeper is a fast Pokemon with good offensive stats.

Then you're just not playing Skarmory right lol

Cresselia is the best wall imo. Invest in sp. def/hp with Reflect or defense and HP with Calm Mind and she's only stopped by powerful Ghost/Dark/Bug Pokes like Heracross, Tyranitar, and Gengar...but there are ways of dealing with them.

Rather than dealing a possible nonfatal blow onto your opponent, you can use stat up moves to allow for or even ensure an OHKO. If you aren't going to beat it on the first turn, why not double your attack with Swords Dance and sweep it and possibly the Pokemon they send out afterwards.

Alternatively, you can whack it over the head twice with a move, dealing double damage in the first place.

Actually, I do use stat-boosters occasionally, but only when I'm messing around. When I play serious, I brawl them into the ground.

They are useful for when you need to finish the fight with one blow, like when someone has Recover or Rest+Snore/Sleep Talk and superior Speed.

Or, you can whip out a OHKO in the first place, but wit 30% accuracy, I wouldn't gamble on it. More like a last ditch effort.

Go Drow School of Tactics!

~Zhalath
What I am saying is that if your Pokemon can survive a hit or two, stat boosting moves can help in the long run. Also, they help special sweepers take down Blissey.

I must have the worst luck. I've spent hours breeding for a Timid Rotom with 31 Sp. Attack and 31 Speed. Considering my parents have one of each, it shouldn't take too long. I've hatched well over 40 eggs, and I haven't gotten a single Timid one. I finally got a Hasty one, so I thought I might just use it instead. I'm pretty sure these are its IVs.

Anyone have a good idea on how to replace Quick Claw from a really slow Lapras? I'm not breeding a new one, my current one is fine, but previously it owned with QC, but recently I found out it isn't allowed in competitive play.

Any ideas on what to replace for a good speed booster? Its Ice Beam, which is sometimes an OHKO, is really most effective when it goes first, espeically against Grass.

Psychic really suprises people...
You could give it a Salac berry and hope you survive the hit and that the berry activates. There is always the choice scarf that is hindering...
I'd probably just go with leftovers but it depends on your Lapras.

Woohoo! Finally got my black Trainer Card!

How do you get that again? Battle Tower?

You get a Black trainer card by fufilling all of the 5 'criteria' that upgrades you card:

The criteria are:

- Defeat the Elite 4
- Win Master Rank in all Contest Catergories
- Play the Capture the Flag Minigame Underground
- Complete the National Pokedex
- 100 consecutive wins in the Battle Tower

Getting one of these changes your card from red to blue; two = blue to bronze; 3 = bronze to silver; 4 = silver to gold; and all 5 = gold to black.

What's the speed on your Lapras?

He can hit 360 with a Choice Scarf, but that'd be a pretty novel set.

Personally, I don't even bother with tanks and all of that jazz.

That's how my Dusknoir destroyed you, killing two Pokes and crippling two more. Another tank would have finished you. Really, tanks are an essential part of battling.

Here's an example: A powerful physical sweeper is destroying you. You switch to Weezing, take only a little damage, then can cripple the Pokemon with Will-o-Wisp, then stall it out. Without a tank, you would have lost.

A team of only sweepers is defeated by a team with tanks and sweepers. Incidentaly, a Pokemon with a stat raising move can boost up to be able to defeat tanks.

See my point? Saying you can do without tanks is like saying you can shoot off a limb and be fine.

pshaw. I knows that. I was just wondering if anyone else here got a Lugia off of XD, other than me, 'cuz really, that's the only legit, non-event way to get it without cheating.

Anybody like my hacked Pokemon that I got ripped off on?:

Shiny Regigigas
Jubilife TV
Met at Lv. 100
Ability: Wonder Guard

424/460/319/233/316/299

Crush Grip
Draco Meteor
Roar of Time
Giga Impact

And:

Shiny Raichu
Twinleaf Town
Met at LV 0
Maximum Cool,Beauty,Cute,Smart,and Tough stats
80 ribbons(EVERY SINGLE ONE)

324/306/188/279/259/299

Fly
Surf
Thunder
Thunderbolt

I got seriously ripped off.

If my Raichu has ALL the possible ribbons(including the Hoenn ones),wouldn't that count as me beating the Master Class contest in Cool,Smart,Tough, etc.? Or do I actually have to beat them in my game?
If it's the former,ugh...

Wow. No, you would actually have to beat them in your game. But yeah, those suck. What'd you trade fro 'em?

A PBR Pikachu for the Gigas, and I think a Darkrai for the Raichu.I hate that guy so much right now...
At least the Gigas came with Pokerus.

I can get you back the Darkrai, but not the Pikachu. I could probably give you a slightly hacked Surfing Pikachu. PM me if you're interested.

Still offering the three Hoenn starters. I'm going to put in a Venonat for a Turwig, too. I want the Joohto starters and Turtwig as level 1.
