Okay i've been seeing alot of these "Help me i need help" topics for brickshelf. here it is

    1) Go to the website and get a name and password.

2)Receive your email and do what that says to activate your account.

3)Go to your account and click "Add Folder" in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

4)Do all the requirments for your folder until you finally get it made.

5)After you've made an account click on your folder, then click on "Upload" on the upper right hand corner where you found "Add Folder".

6)Click on Browse when the next page comes up, then upload.

Now keep repeating those steps to make a succesful account and youre done. thank you for your time.

Also, if your'e wondering why your folder isn't public, it is because it is well, not public yet. You don't have to or need to do anything to make it public. Just wait a few hours/a day until it's public. Until then you can just click on each picture and copy the URL for that one and give a link for that individual picture.

-HT

*edit* Since Geekshelf closed down, I edited out the mention of geekshelf from the title and this post. ~HM

This is now the official Topic for Brickshelf help. wink.gif - T

I would like to add:

Folder Names can only be one word long, and only cirtain characters will be accepted. Names of pics, must also be SAVED in whatever program you are using. These can only be SAVED one word long, and you can't copy and paste pics to Geekshelf/Brickshelf.
Make sure you pick a category for your pics and folders aswell. And on Brickshelf, only post Lego related pics. If they are not, put them in Geekshelf.

And Mark, yes you can delete stuff on Geekshelf. Just click 'delete' and then click what you want to delete.

Yes, you can delete stuff. Logged into your account, with the folder open, just click on "delete" (upper right next to upload & all that other stuff) and then click on the thumbnail of the pic you want deleted.

If you upload something and it doesn't show up in your folder, make sure the name of the file doesn't have any spaces in it. It won't upload anything with spaces. This won't work:

my silly picture.jpg

But these WILL work:

Another thing...

Say you had one picture called "kingcobra.jpg" that you drew and uploaded onto brickshelf.
Then you updated the picture or fixed it up a bit, still saved under the same filename.
Try to avoid uploading the exact same file to Brickshelf or Geekshelf without deleting the older one first. See, when two of the same file name are in the same folder, the system gets confused. One gets messed up a bit, the other sometimes does as well. Just so you don't have to go through the trouble of deleting both pictures and uploading again, just remember to delete the older one before putting up a newer version.

And just so no questions are asked WHY Brickshelf/Geekshelf has to take so long just so you can get people to look at your pics...

Security measures. The moderators over at Brickshelf/Geekshelf simply want to know what you're posting before it's viewable to the public. The reason it takes so long is that millions of people upload in an hour. So it takes them quite a while to approve everything.

Question: Do you have to pay to get a Brickshelf?

--------------------
Attention: Due to some confusion regarding my name, it is meant to be read as d-h-i-k. However, I will not adjust my user name, unless the mods ask me to, because it most likely would be extremely annoying for everyone who had to type it.

Is there a space limit for a Geekshelf account?

Eg. Can I upload pictures that takes up 50 MBs?

Well, brickshelf is used more for Bricks e.i., Mocs and stuff like that. and Geekshelf is more like things not Lego bricks. BZP has a rule that you cannot use Brickshelf for things other than sets and mocs..

That i'm not sure of, but if there is no limit, it would definitely take a long time to upload it, and load it..

I love my Geekshelf account! laugh.gif Really handy. I store all (well, most) of my drawings and stuff in it, and they're easily accessible from anywhere!

It really is a great service. I have one question though: a while back the "Random Folder" function stopped working all of a sudden. Does anyone know anything about this?

EDIT: Nov. 26-- Hmmm... it's working now... did someone see this and fix it or something?

So, let me get this straight. Following BZP guidelines, I CAN'T have Bionicle-related avatars on Brickshelf, or is it just I can only have Lego-related images? Because I don't want to start a Brickshelf account if I can't put my Bionicle avatars on it without breaking BZP rules.

miru.gif haporitohu.gif miru.gif

Oh yeah, instead of a lengthy explanation, can I just get a yes or no answer?

You could have bionicle related avatars on brickshelf. You can have anything on brickshelf, i think, that has a brick in it. Sort of...you know what i mean. You really shouldn't host a picture of Sailor Moon on brickshelf, and show it to us on BZP. But you should put that picture on geekshelf, then show us. ;)

Oh.. sorry, yes. unsure.gif tongue.gif (i forgot to read the post before i quoted it)

BTW if you have to upload many pictures at once you can use this tip. First Zip up all the pics. you can do this by going to your computer and finding the pics you are uploading. Select the pics and right click on one. Go to add to zip and choose "Add to Zip" or "Add to (folder name).zip".

IF YOU CHOOSE "ADD TO ZIP" READ THIS! ignore if you chose the other one

There will be a box and at the top it will show the directory you are in. simply add ***.zip to the end of the directory. replace *'s with file name of choice.

go to Brickshelf or Geekshelf and upload the zip. when it finishes it auto unzips the file and places all the pics neatly in the folder

the benefits of this is:
1) one easy upload
2) upload time is shorter than combined upload time of singular files
3) great for mocs

NOTE YOU MUST HAVE WINZIP OR WINRAR TO DO THIS!

I suggest http://www.winzip.com click download evaluation version. thats free

now that geekshelf is going down in flames, are we allowed to use brickshelf? That off topic category must be there for a reason.

"Toa," Zaktan said, a harsh laugh echoing in multiple voices. "You are an anachronism -- pure and noble heroes, still striving for right in a universe of chaos, unwilling to admit that your day is long over."And what is going to replace us? Monsters like you?" I would say that you probably have a space are dash or something that won't work, if you want more then one word, do it like this MyAvatar without a space.

So rename it, and try again.

The first pic in your folder is always used as the folder thumbnail, if you want to change it, upload a picture that preceeds the other pics alphabetically, preferably 0.gif or something, that way it'll stay like that even if you upload something else.

I'm not sure why there is a 13 year old age requirement for brickshelf, maybe somewhere in the terms of service on the website they mention why. It might just be that they don't want to be responsible for 13 and under seeing questionable content (not that there is any questionable content there anyhow). I'm not really sure.

Why the brickshelf is for 13 ages?  huh.gif

The following is a quote from a post that Kevin Loch, BrickShelf owner/webmaster/moderator, made elsewhere...
QUOTE
I sincerely regre the 13 year old restriction, but unfortunately it is required by U.S. Law.  The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) prohibits the collection of personally identifying information (such as email addresses) from personss under 13 years of age without parental consent.  It is not practical for Brickshelf to implement acceptable forms of parental verification at this time.  Because Brickshelf requires a valid email address to verify identity (to reduce the problems associated with anonymous accounts), we can't allow persons under 13 to create an account.  Note that Brickshelf does not prohibit persons with an account from letting other persons use that account. The 'owner' of the account is responsible for the actions of anyone they let use the account.  Your parents, (or anyone) could create an account (with their email address) and let you use it as long as they trusted you not to violate the TOS.

Geekshelf is gone but now I don't know if I can put my metroid avatar anywhere.

EDIT. I've got a Brickshelf account but can't find the upload button.

1. To replace geekshelf check out the other pinned topic...

2. You have to create a folder before you can upload... there should be a [ New Folder ] limk, click it then make your folder, then open that folde and then look over next to where the [ New Folder ] link was on the other page, its on this page too but with the upload link next to it...
