And now, for a round two attempt:

This land...this world is something else. We, a legion of the proud mother Rome, have arrived here but a day ago after crossing the great Tiber. Suddenly, without warning, the discreet, open landscape had changed: Around us now are trees, marshes, jungles of the likes of which none had ever seen before, but that didn’t stop us. We are Legion. We are power. We are Rome and that will never change.

In the forest, there are...things. Day by day, fewer and fewer of our foraging parties come out alive, or whole in any case. The small amount that have returned are different, changed. They wield powers: Elements in the shapes of creatures that embody the passion of fire, strength of earth, healing of water, freedom of air, or the veil of plant life. It feels as though they are the anger and frustration of the wielders compounded into something tangible. We, for now, will call them furies. There are even a few that can feel metal, and they are now the most superior of swordsmen, unparalleled in skill or speed, but they have no…creature that is manifested. If the scouts even come out at all. I have heard speak of creatures in the jungle, flame-red and swirled in the colors of the sun that can call fire from their very selves, though they are only rumors. This land is so different from what we have known.

There is one, Gaius Raucus, who has come back alive and claimed to be able to lead us, to bring glory to the idea of our supremacy as humans. He has power beyond imagining, wielding every type of fury in incredible proportions! There are even troops who bow to him and call him “First Lord” among the most powerful of the other “Lords”. The soldiers have accepted him without question at the ethics of his choices. Some of us feel as though we are falling farther and farther from the statutes of Mother Rome.

What are we to do? They…they came in the middle of the day with cries like madness and hurling fire into our midst without remorse. “Children of the Sun,” They called themselves, and I could believe it by the way they wielded the gifts of that celestial orb. Our own furycrafters (That is what we call those who can control a “fury”) could do nothing against the sudden explosion of violence that was among us. Gaius is dead. In his fatal throes, his furies did things we could not imagine: The very air around those “Children” ignited, the earth rose up around them, the grass bound them, the sun itself betrayed its progeny and rained blue, crackling fire among the heathens. Their screams were heard for miles. Now, the great and mighty legions of Rome are scattered. We are all that’s left, under his successor, Gaius Florus, and the few “Lords” that remain after that fatal slaughter. Still, the Children hunt us to the death, we think because we could someday be strong enough to challenge their undoubted rule. At this point, the only ones left alive are the furycrafters, since the rest were too weak to defend themselves. The survivors have pledged vengeance and we
will have it. We are a new order now; we are Alerans. Let all who hear our name tremble and flee, for we will show no mercy.

Welcome to Alera:

Introduction:

Welcome to Alera, the main island in a world known as Carna, created by the author Jim Butcher. This RPG, based upon his works, takes place in an Aleran era yet to be depicted. You will be playing as a human pitted against the malevolent forces of the fire-wielding Children of the Sun. Although not yet seen, several other races exist including the Avar (Air), Malorandim (Metal), Yrani, (Plant Life), and Dekh (Earth).

Originally, the Alerans were a Roman legion that was separated from their companions and found themselves in a wholly new, completely undiscovered world unlike anything they had ever seen. For now, though, the only thing they can do is fight and survive!

Characters:

The only characters that can be chosen are human. Any appearance is fine, except for something completely unconventional (Bright green hair, third arms, etc.). This is Ancient Roman technology, after all.

For a social class, everyone is a basic soldier with a single type of fury. Above you are Counts (2 types of fury), then Lords (4 types of fury), then High Lords (all six in major quantities), and the First Lord (all six in unparalleled power levels).

You are all part of an Aleran squad named Proeliator, a battle-active squad intended to hunt down the Children of the Sun. It is your duty to serve as the First Lord commands, under the immediate control of your Count, Virtus (Me). As soldiers, you may choose one type of fury to manifest. With that fury, you may do the things mentioned below:

Furies

Water: Used in healing, communicating over large distances, reading emotions, shape shifting (only to alter appearances), keeping a youthful appearance, and manipulating water; disrupted by fire. A water-fury-wielder is named Knight Aqua
Earth: Used to gain strength, tracking and hunting, manipulate the earth, and calm animals. Earthcraft is disrupted when contact with the ground is lost. An earth-fury-wielder is named Knight Terra
Tree/Plant Life: Used in manipulating plants, tracking and for camouflage; used by archers to bend massive bows to allow arrows to fly further and faster, and to increase accuracy of arrows. Also used to instantly create wooden tools. Requires nearby wood or plant matter, living or dead, in order to use. Disrupted by surrounding the user with metal. A wood-fury-wielder is named Knight Flora
Fire: Used to control firelight to subliminally manipulate passionate feelings such as joy, anger, and fear; used to create and manipulate flames for either constructive or massively destructive purposes; can be used to create cold by extracting heat from an object; disrupted by water. A fire-fury-wielder is named Knight Ignus
Air: Used to fly, control the wind, and to increase speed and agility; Also able to bend air into a lens to see farther or into an echo chamber to allow voice communication without the need for water, however the effective range is much shorter; strong crafters may be able to bend the air to make objects or people seem invisible or to create lenses of air to focus light into a damaging beam; can be used to manipulate the weather. Windcraft is disrupted by earth, particularly in the form of salt. An air-fury-wielder is named Knight Aeris
Metal: Used in sword play heavily as crafters can change the hardness of metal, allowing them to strike with diamond-hard blades. Combat can be totally in the dark as metalcrafters do not need light to sense nearby metal. Shields can also be made more flexible to absorb a greater amount of impact force than normal. Also used in forging weapons and other precise metal objects, and metalcrafters also have dramatically increased pain tolerance and physical endurance. Although they gain speed, accuracy and deadly ability in combat, metalcrafters do not become physically stronger, and still require metal weapons/armor to make the most of their abilities. If attacked by something made of stone or organic material, the crafter is able to block some of the attacks, but multiple would quickly overload his/her defenses. Gaius Sextus, First Lord of Alera, is the only character to display the ability to manifest a metal fury - the effect being that Sextus transformed into metal, in an effect reminiscent of Colossus. A metal-fury-wielder is named Knight Ferrous.

Locations

Here’s a map. We are only in the red area, which is the Feverthorn Jungle.

First of all, the entire jungle is centered around the river crossing, called the Elinarch, which bridges the Tiber river. This serves as a central landmark that splits the Jungle into two distinct halves, the southern one of which is the Alerans’ and the northern belongs to the Children of the Sun. Crossing the river itself instead of the Elinarch is suicide simply because the waters are inhabited by a mixture of sharks and miniature “leviathans”, which are fifty-foot monsters not unlike carnivorous, tough-skinned manatees.

The main Command Post for Aleran troops would probably in the middle of the forest and will be named “Alera Centralus.” Outlying posts include a forwards base that overlooks the river named “Forward Command” and there are posts to the far left (by the sea) and far right (at the edge of the jungle) named “Outlying Left Post” and “Outlying Right Post” because there are, at times, enemies who will attempt to sneak across the river in a lull and cause havoc.

It is pretty much the same placement for the Children of the Sun, but the Alerans have never met a Child long enough to find out the names of their posts.

Throughout the story, trails can and will be blazed through the jungle leading to and from different posts and hiding places for spies and soldiers.

Rules

1) All basic BZP rules apply
2) I, as a rule, require “travel posts”. You can’t get from the main command post to an outlying scouting area in one post, unless it’s a very big one that describes the journey.
3) No god-modding. That is when you overpower yourself and become invincible, or pull weapons out of nowhere that are convenient for the situation. You aren’t the most powerful thing on the earth simply because you control a fury.
4) NO SPAM. This is just doing and/or saying stupid things that will get you in trouble. Keep it out of the RPG.
6) DO NOT talk back to staff, especially me. However, if you believe that there is an unfair ruling, politely PM me in a civil manner with reasons as to why you believe an occurrence was unfair. Don't yell and whine about it, or I will take further disciplinary action.
7) Respect other players and members and do not assume a Staff's job by reprimanding a member. If you see them make a mistake, just kindly point it out and allow them to be aware that it is a mistake. Just be nice, and play fair. A side-note to that is the killing of PC’s without permission. Trust me, the First Lord would not take kindly to his servant being slain and he will come to seek quick and fatal revenge.
8) Don’t go off making your own massive side-plot without PM’ing either me or Robo first and getting our expressed permission.
9) If you are banned, do not post. Period. They will be reported to a Moderator for deletion.
10) You can have up to two characters at one time. Members may be rewarded with more if I see them behaving well and not taking advantage of the two.
11) Have fun

Moderators

1. Rockhound, GM.
2. Robo, co-GM.

Punishments

1. You receive an OOC warning.
2. You receive a PM and an OOC warning.
3. Either your fury is destroyed (Yes, that is quite possible) or your character will receive a broken limb. Moderator’s choice.
4. Your character is killed.
5. You are banned.

Yay, we're back!

Username: Inferna Firesword
Character Name: Laural Thulile
Gender: Female
Fury Element and Shape: Plant-life; Monkey (called Kapila)
Appearance: A small, dark-skinned girl of about sixteen years of age, with large brown eyes and short black hair. She wears tight-fitting leather armor – green, of course – and black, thick-soled boots. She carries a quiver of arrows and a longbow made of yew, along with a small dagger.
Personality: Quiet, and not very chatty; it’s not certain if she’s just shy or just isn’t a talker. She feels best when she’s surrounded by trees and other plants. Very docile amongst her allies, but can be very dangerous and vocal when her allies – or a plant she’s a bit attached to – is threatened.
Strength: Archery and tracking
Weakness: Since she doesn’t talk much, it’s hard to tell what she wants/needs, making it very frustrating for her allies to try and find out if she’s hurt or not, if she’s hungry, etc.
Backround: Laural’s family was killed when she was about ten by some sort of sickness, and she was on her own since then. Her father had taught her to use a bow at a young age, and her furycrafting made her already good skill even better.

Username: Inferna Firesword
Character Name: Vesta Althea
Gender: Female
Fury Element and Shape: Fire; Phoenix (called Eshe)
Appearance: An attractive young woman of about twenty years with long brown hair and blue eyes. She wears plated steel armor, covered with scratches and unpolished, but she doesn’t bother with making it shine. She carries a broadsword with fire markings on the pommel, crossguard, and hilt, and a similar shield.
Personality: Outgoing and friendly, she gets along with everyone on her side. She is somewhat hot-tempered and ferocious in a fight, but she does her best to restrain herself. She is also rather destructive and a firebug, but she’s doing her best to remove her mania from her.
Strength: Sword-to-sword combat; furycrafting (especially the more destructive elements of that art)
Weakness: Archery; creative aspects of furycrafting
Backround: Vesta hasn’t told much about her past, but the haunted look that lingers in her eyes tells a story of their own. She is said to have come from a small village, but what has molded her into this haunted soldier is unknown to most. What is known is that she is a very gifted swordswoman, and since she says that her father was a soldier, it seems to fit her.

OOC:

Username: Kagha
Character Name: Damian Kenthus
Gender: Male
Fury Element and Shape: Air, in the form of an arm-long, scaly drake.
Appearance: Damian is tall and lean. He has slim, muscular arms with numerous scars over his right shoulder. Not big at all due to being in the trees so much. He has stained brown hair and grey eyes. He wears a thick hide tunic and boots, leather gauntlets, and has a longsword in a sheath on his back.
Personality: Damian is a very zealous man, who is always eager for adventure and excitement. He looks on the bright side of things and is always sure of himself, which tends to make him slightly egocentric. He enjoys fooling around in the trees and prefers to be alone, but also is comfortable around people.
Strength: He has great agility and stealth, and is a skilled swordsman.
Weakness: He is careless and clumsy, and not very observant. He is also weak when it comes to an all-out melee fight, instead relying on agility.
Background: Damian grew up as an orphan. He first entered the jungle at age thirteen, and quickly learned to control his furycrafting powers.

OOC: Character post. I'll get it up in a moment. Just reserving the spot.

All three approved again.

Characters

Staff:

Username: Rockhound
Character name: Count Virtus
Gender: Male
Furies (Because he’s a Count and your commanding officer, he has two): Fire and air in the shape of twin eagles.
Appearance: Virtus is what you would expect from someone of his type: A grizzled, old centurion with the beginnings of stubble on his chin and an air of command around him. He wears standard legion armor and carries a pair of short swords.
Personality: He is a strict commander who brooks no nonsense, but can be lenient with those who pull their fair share. With the ones who like to slack off and let other’s do the work, he has almost no patience.
Strength: Furycraft
Weakness: Loves his troops to pieces. Will do almost anything to keep them alive.
Background: Virtus is an old and grizzled centurion who has lived through many battles for the Roman Empire. In the days before the Aleran Excursion, he was the commander of a cohort of troops that became famous for their valor and ability to gain victory from any situation. After coming to the new lands, he was given control of Proeliator and told to exact revenge.

Username: Rockhound
Character name: Ferrol Serion
Gender: Male
Fury: Metal
Appearance: He is a young in his early twenties and top physical form with long, brown hair down to his shoulders and striking blue eyes. He wields a long sword and a short sword, one in each hand.
Personality: Very fun-loving and kind of lazy, which makes him chafe from time to time under the leadership of Virtus. Underneath it all, though, he does enjoy serving under the centurion and goes out of his way at times to help him out.
Strength: Incredible skill at swordfighting, which is because of the metalcrafting.
Weakness: He is reckless and overconfident in his own strength.
Background: Ferrol is a young and slightly inexperienced legionnaire who has only served on a few missions with Virtus. Before that, he was the son of a slightly influential nobleman. Not much is known besides those few facts, because he keeps his life “close to his chest” and would prefer to fight.

Username: Robo
Character name: Radicus
Gender: Male
Fury Element and Shape: Fire, Komodo Dragon
Appearance: Hard leather plate clothing/armor with thin wool underweave to allow a level of flexibility. Primarily a dark red in color.
Personality: Quirky and charming, Radicus loves to meet new people and loves a good fight even more. He will refrain from killing an opponent if he thinks that keeping him alive will be 'fun'.
Strength: Swordfighting
Weakness: Long-range combat and non-sword combat
Background: From a young age Radicus trained with a sword. Every day, sunrise to sunset, he practiced fighting with a sword. When he became able to use a Fury he practiced with his fury to better hone his swordsmanship, and worked on combos to use his skills with his fury. To this day, he loves to train and views any fight as just another level of practice.

Non-Staff:

Username: Inferna Firesword
Character Name: Laural Thulile
Gender: Female
Fury Element and Shape: Plant-life; Monkey (called Kapila)
Appearance: A small, dark-skinned girl of about sixteen years of age, with large brown eyes and short black hair. She wears tight-fitting leather armor – green, of course – and black, thick-soled boots. She carries a quiver of arrows and a longbow made of yew, along with a small dagger.

Background: Damian grew up as an orphan. He first entered the jungle at age thirteen, and quickly learned to control his furycrafting powers.

Username:Hewkiinuva
Character Name:Tybault Taceo
Gender: Male
Fury Element and Shape:Water, miniature two-headed hydra (grows more heads as Tybault gets stronger in fury crafting?)
Appearance:From what can be seen of his obscured face, he has tanned skin, thin and tiny black seemingly pupil-less eyes of a killer, and thin black eyebrows. He's short, and swathed in tight fitting extremely dark blue clothes, and wears the same hued bandanna and scarf to obscure most of his face. Despite his size (about 5 feet), he's 17 years old. Tybault carries a 6 inches long and 6 inches wide pack strapped to his left hip that carries his daggers and edged boomerangs. Hanging around his neck is a "shining" blue stoned necklace that seemingly never loses its luster. Tybault uses this stone to sharpen his tools. Naturally, for the sake of stealth, he carries this bright stone safely covered around his neck.
Personality: Quiet; he's immune to the killing factor, and thus shows no emotion for the killed. Well, at least because he hasn't become too attached to anybody that has been killed anyway. He shows confusion over the emotion shown over the dead (especially those trained in killing), as it is a new fact for him.
Strengths: Quite agile and quick (due to his size), and has great hands and reflexes to throw and use his throwing weapons. Of course, this means he has good aim.
Weaknesses:Hand to hand fighting is a big no-no for him. (Aka-he's not good at it.) He prefers the hit and run tactic. Or kill and run tactic.
Background:An orphan, he was taken in on the streets and trained in assassination. Thus, he no longer shows quite as much emotion around others, and naturally, he prefers not to be noticed.

Username: The Comedian.
Character name: Kahna
Gender: Female
Fury Element and Shape: Air, rat =3
Appearance: Wears a mottled green cloak (Essentially camo) of which seamlessly blends in with the surroundings. She wears boots of which are lightweight, and seemingly can walk through areas without making any sound. She wears two wrist blades (Like what Jigsaw wears, if you need a detailed description on their functions, search for "Saw Wristblade(s)" and see what comes up. If you still have problems, I'll look it up. Pants are black, wears tough, leather armor which can stop arrows, daggers, and weak sword strikes. Her hair is brown, and falls to her shoulders. Skin color is white, and her eye color is green. Her shirt is also a black color.
Personality: Quiet, timid, and incredibly shy when not talking on business related stuff. (Weird sentence)
Strength (Pick something he/she is good at): Literally a master of stealth, and assassination techniques.
Weakness (Yes, you have to put one): Socially awkward, and is physically weak, uses momentum and the natural forces in order to bring down foes, along with her superior speed, most of the time.
Background: As a young girl, she was taken up by a group of people, all of whom were skilled as assassins, and soon taught her how to fight like one. This involved many training sessions, and loads of seclusion from other people. She was essentially a secret to the entire world, which is why she is so shy of people and doesn't talk a lot. She can talk about things like business fine, but does have a small stutter when she's uncomfortable in a situation, which is why it's easy to tell when she's fibbing about something. She joined up with the army of sorts, as a scout, known assassin, along with her silent abilities and knowledge of nature itself, which goes hand in hand with her stealth.

Username: Half-Dragon
Character name: Derek (his family was originally Celtic).
Gender: Male
Fury Element and Shape: Air, in the shape of a winged lynx.
Appearance: Tall, lean and tanned with brown hair and green eyes. When not wearing standard Roman livery (which he never does if he can avoid it) Derek prefers either simple, brown and green clothing for camouflage or leaf green with gold embroidery for casual wear. He carries an unadorned longsword by his side, which he wields quite proficiently.
Personality: Light-hearted, airy. A nice guy, but with a serious side you don’t wanna mess with. Also has a tendency to speak with his fury, Dash. Intuitive and resourceful.
Strength: Agile and a skilled swordsman.
Weakness: Doesn’t take damage very well. Often hard to hit.
Background: Derek didn’t so much “Join the Roman Legion” as “Hitch what he thought was a ride to Sicily by wearing Roman Legion uniform.” That plan pretty much went down the pit when they crossed the river into what seemed to be a whole new world, but he never quite got around to telling anyone he wasn’t a Legionnaire. He’s a self-taught swordsman, so he doesn’t know much about the rote maneuvers and responses soldiers are trained for, but he can improvise and adapt better than they usually can.

Username: vuhung, call me Taka-kun.
Character name: Taka Ihtera.
Gender: Male.
Fury Element and Shape: Air, hawk.
Appearance: Wears the same clothes as Link from Legend of Zelda. His hair is blond and upright, face looks always serious. Longsword with a sheath on his side and two daggers.
Personality: Often a serious but also cheerful guy. He often act as a mediator between two parties that are arguing. Extreme patience and tolerance, but also very naive. Too trustful of others.
Strength: Skilled in combat and agile.
Weakness: Naive and a bit weak compared to the others.
Background:Taka lived with his mother and grandparents, never knowing the identity of his father. His mother always learned him good things and Taka always stayed in his mother's warm arms. But this made him naive about the outside world. Yet he joined the military to protect his folk.

Username: Kothra Streamdiver
Character Name: Aulus Rufius
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Fury Element and Shape: Air, aquila (eagle)
Appearance: Something like this, but blue, not red; blue eyes, brown hair.
Personality: Sometimes short-tempered, but not to the point of stupidity or foolishness. Doesn't talk much with people he does not know well. Can often be found cleaning/repairing his equipment. A savage attacker in battle.
Strengths: hand-to-hand combat, swift movement, close-range ranged combat
Weakness: long-range ranged combat, ambush
Background: Aulus grew up in Mediolanum (modern-day Milan) and worked as an apprentice blacksmith. He eventually joined the army. After several years of training, he was assigned to this Legion (whatever its name is). Aulus is a front-line Legionary, and excels at hand-to-hand combat

Username: The Power that Is
Character name: Appius Rufius Celer
Gender: Male
Fury Element and Shape: Earth, with a pony-sized catoblepas fury
Appearance: Practically bald because his hair has been cropped short for a helmet, he is also clean-shaven. He is actually quite short, and bit chunky. But any bulk on him is muscle. He looks slightly Greek, with a very Mediterranean complexion and one of those angular faces. He has taken his original Legionary armour and modified it so it it lighter and easier to move in
Personality: Blunt and to the point. You ask him your opinion and he will give it to you, no sweet coating. He likes solitude and peace, so being a soldier might have been the wrong profession for him...
Strength: He is excellent at skirmishing, hit and run attacks. His new powers make him even better at this
Weakness: A little overcautious and likes to have a plan to stick to. Not so good at improvising mid-combat.
Background: A simple soldier, Aulua joined so he could earn his salt and perhaps work his way up through the ranks until he became important. In this new terrain he is honing his skills as a tracker, adopting skills picked up from the Gallic tribesmen that complement his earthy skills. His is fast of foot, and even faster should he choose to ride his fury.

As a young girl, she was taken up by a group of people, all of whom were skilled as assassins, and soon taught her how to fight like one.

OOC: Spink and Hewkii, approved.

With that said, I'll try to get that summary and plot booster out tomorrow some time.

OOC: Approved, HD and Taka.

OOC: First off, I’m incredibly sorry to everyone for this happening and I hope that it didn’t drive anyone away. (Especially those of you who have done a good bit of character development through your posts up until now)

For a recap, here’s what has happened thus far:

The legion named Proeliator (of which you are a part) is led by the commanding officer, High Lord Aquitaine, who is directly beneath the First Lord. Below him, commanding your specific party, is the Count Virtus and his singulaire (bodyguard), Ferrol Seiron. A scouting party from this legion has vanished in the Feverthorn Jungle and we have been sent out to investigate. Thus far, a large swamp has been revealed to be a graveyard full of bones from the people of that party before us and we are now seeking revenge against the Children of the Sun for those murders.

Inferna’s second character has been attacked by an old man who mistook her for a Child of the Sun, whom he has just escaped from, but they are possibly coming to an understanding. Hewkiinuva, who is nearby, is currently being hunted by a pair of garim lizards who have the full intent of consuming him for their next meal.

IC (The Count and Ferrol Seiron in the Feverthorn Jungle):

The Count sniffed the air. His fury drew itself around him once again, enhancing the senses that he willed it to and giving him a greater sense of what was awaiting them. In itself, the sense of smell was not something that could be defined as a human’s greatest asset. But, with the assistance of an outside source that could easily increase it to something that not even a prime bloodhound could match, it became something else once again; now, Virtus could scent any and everything around him. Now, he was the hunter and the vile heathens who had dared to touch the patrol were, by all standards, the doomed prey. He grinned, exhilarated as always at the feel of power that came over him, that sense of unbeatable control, and walked forward towards the clearing.

Shifting uneasily, Ferrol glanced over at his charge, the Count, to make sure that he wasn’t planning on doing anything heroic or, as he called it, stupid. Nobody wanted a perfectly good commanding officer to be found dead simply because he was too courageous and led the charge rather than hanging back and letting his men take the brunt of the attack, right? The singulaire certainly didn’t. It was his job to keep this man alive, and he planned on completing that task to the best of his ability, which was considerable. Shifting his stance into a walking, catlike glide, he followed after his charge.

Virtus advanced a few steps before glancing back, making sure that his men were still behind him and ready to lend their hands to whatever was needed. Satisfied that they were indeed prepared, he nodded once and stepped quickly into the clearing, his fire fury hovering over his head, ready to defend its master.

In a sudden and shocking explosion, his fury simply blew apart. Instead of hurling itself at an enemy and then destroying itself to be regenerated later like it usually would, the fury just, in place, thundered and was gone, leaving only traces of scorched air where it had once hovered. Not even the Count, its partner and commander, could have felt or stopped what had just happened.

Virtus hissed through clenched teeth and Ferrol nodded agreement, stating what the Count was sure to be thinking by now: “Children. They’re here.”

As if in answer to their almost unspoken statement, a group of ten or twelve bright red humanoids stalked out of the clearing edges, chittering among themselves and pretending that they hadn’t seen the humans, though Virtus’s fire fury was sure to tip them off. One of them stopped, pointed, and they all turned to face the scouting party, their arms that were scrawled with golden script raising into a defensive posture. A single Child tossed its long, white head of hair and held out its hand. Fire, pure, orange, and unaltered leapt up in three separate, twining columns that braided together to form a brilliant sword in its fist. The others, nodding in agreement, did the same.

One of the Children stepped back and raised his fist high into the air, chanting and muttering strange incantations in a language that humans could not comprehend. Around his arm and down through his body, fire cascaded in a pure sheet, literally clothing him in its radiance and imbuing him with an appearance of lethal power. He pointed and let out a chattering cry at the scouting party. As one, all but the evident leader surged forward to attack.

By that statement, I assume you mean the first words of my previous post? tongue.gif

"Legion VII Proeliator"

You do know what proeliator means, though, right?

And for anyone that wants to see it, I have this.

IC: Derek hopped back a step, drawing his longsword and assuming a defensive stance. Dash, meanwhile, crouched at his feet, ready to spring the second one of those flamebrains came too close. He opened wide his feline maw and let loose a ferocious roar that bore with it a gale-force wind, intending to snuff out those fires quickly.

IC: Laural hissed through her teeth as she saw the creatures -- Children of the Sun -- charging. Kapila vanished as she willed a huge tree branch to lower itself down. She grabbed it, and released her control on it so she wound up in a prime sniper's position. She yanked an arrow out of her quiver, fitted the nock onto the string, and pulled back.

A normal woman wouldn't be able to pull back and hold as long as she could. However, she was not a normal woman.

She quickly picked a target, even though she knew her wooden arrow probably wouldn't do much. She aimed for the neck, and quietly hissed a dark curse at the enemy as she let the arrow fly.

OOC: Rocky, I need you to IC the coot again so Vesta can reply.

OOC: Hello, I'd just like to ask two questions, if you don't mind smile.gif
1.) How far had this gone before the server crash? That handy recap you gave is useful for plot, but I tend to find that with longer running RPGs characters get so closely interlinked its very hard for someone new to jump in.
2.) How vital are the books to the plot? I've never even heard of them, let alone read them, and in most RPGs that isn't a problem, but you get the odd one or two that you need the source material to understand

--------------------

We are the legion of the Beast. He has woven himself in the fabric of your life since the dawn of time. Some may call him Abbadon. Some may call him Krop Tor. Or the King of Despair. The Deathless Prince. The Bringer of Night. These are the words that shall set him free.
These are the words of the Beast. And he has woken. He is the heart that beats in the darkness, he is the blood that will never cease. And now he will rise.

I am become manifest. I shall walk in the light and my legions will swarm across the worlds. I am the sin and the temptation and the desire. I am the pain and the loss and the death of hope. I have been imprisoned for eternity, but no more! The Pit is open, and I am free!

OOC:

1) The characters haven't become super buddies yet, the old Alera was just starting up, even if it had five pages. The only person Kahna ever spoke to was Virtcus (Or whatever) and that was only once.

2) I never read the books and played fine in the last one XP

OOC: Woot. Finally a description of the Children of the Sun (Can I abbreviate that to CotS in OOCs from now on?). Now I can begin some concept art type stuff.

IC: Aulus brought his shield along with every other legionnaire in the front line to form a near impenetrable(sp?) wall. The charging Children slammed into the shield wall, then backed off some. At this moment, the legionnaires then unsheathed their swords, broke formation, and charged.

OOC: Yikes. Study Roman stuff people. Or else evilgrin.gif

You may find
this useful.

OOC: Okay then, I'll give it a shot

His is fast of foot, and even faster should he choose to ride his fury

OOC: Approved, TPTI. You really don't need to have read the books, but it's recommended. The exact usages of a fury are more defined, and I did my best to make this compatible with the actual storyline, which is supposed to be an added bonus for those who have actually seen the material.

Yeah, feel free to abbreviate as you wish, everyone.

IC (Count Virtus, Ferrol Seiron, the CotS, in the Feverthorn Jungle):

The Count snarled to himself, letting out a vicious stream of curses that would make even a seasoned dockworker blush at the sound and most likely even take notes in the process. He hadn't expected an all-out charge like the Children had done, even though they were definately outnumbered and outmatched, although he was sure that they didn't care. When anyone held a blade like the sun in their fist and controlled the very heat around them, who would be worrying about numbers anyway?

He flowed backward, using his fury of air (since his flame was unavailable at the present moment) to levitate backward and whipped out his blade in time to meet the charge of one Child thinking to take the glory for himself. Breathing deeply, the Count drew his fury into himself, imbuing his limbs and entire body with a sense of glorious power, rushing speed and incredible ability. On the other hand, this dropped him the full five feet onto the ground above which he had been floating. Virtus landed with a pained grunt and went to one knee, his sword hand dropping to keep himself from falling face-first. Which left him completely defenseless before the fortunate Child.

Ferrol slipped in like a demon, threading his way through the lines in an attempt to reach the Count, who happened to be doing something stupid, just like the singulaire had hoped he wouldn't. He raised a blade and lunged forward, catching the first strike of the Child against his blade with a clear chime just a bare meter in front of the Count's bent head. With a vicious grin, the powerful metalcrafter slid the poor Child's weapon to one side, drawing on his fury to enhance the metal with the strength to resist the flames and hurled himself forward in an attempt to spit the opponent with his shorter, almost hidden blade.

IC (Crazy Old Coot in the Feverthorn Jungle):

The man looked around wearily. "Did you hear that? I just heard cries."

IC (NPC VS HD):

One of the Children snapped its gaze towards Derek, a malicious sense of glee flashing out at noticing a target. It slipped forward and raised its flame-woven blade high, planning on bringing it crashing down and splitting the poor legionnaire in two with the first stroke.

IC (NPC VS Inferna):

A different Child glanced up at the last moment. Its mouth curled in a terrible snarl and slid to one side almost as if it had no bones at all in its body, neatly dodging the arrow and putting itself closer to the archer than it was before.

Raising one hand, it muttered in a guttural, harsh language. In the palm, a blazing light grew into existance and formed itself into a roiling, violent sphere that the creature hurled out at her in an attempt to blow a hole clean through the archer.

OOC: If I missed you, just attack one of the Children and I'll IC for them.

Jk. Okay. BACK INTO ACTION.

IC: Tybault turned around abruptly at the sound of clashes, and he soon saw more flames shoot up into the sky.
Well..., he thought crossly,Now there are two areas with fire signals. Which one should I go?
Tybault shrugged, and decided to go to the one he had first seen. He was probably closer to that one anyway. He continued to leap in the trees.

OOC: One post til I connect with Vesta. (Continuing from the two post thing I had in the previous thread.)

OOC: Don't forget. They're in the trees!

IC (Garim lizards in the Feverthorn Jungle):

The pair of ravenous predators lunged after their fleeing prey, who happened to be Tybault. One was slipping from tree to tree while the other scurried on underneath in an attempt to get their foe trapped and panic like any regular food animal would do. Once the fear set in, there was no going back. It was going to be a real feast.

'Kay. tongue.gif

IC: Tybault whipped his head around as he heard the scurrying after him. What the heck? He thought to himself.
He moved a bit quicker, zigzagging through the trees, climbing higher and higher as he did so.

IC: Kahna was more or less waiting for one of these things to come to her, and she was ready to deploy her wrist blades as a surprise, and rip the enemy apart. It was only fitting.

OOC: One of them scrabbled up into one in that post that was eaten during the server edit. I might've edited out to be replaced with "What the heck!?", but I'm not sure.

IC (Garim lizards in the Feverthorn Jungle):

The creatures began to get worried. This was something completely new to them. Before now, any animal would jump to the ground to try and run faster, not leap higher into the trees. It would be more difficult now, but not impossible to catch their prey.

IC (NPC VS Spink):

A Child grinned as he slowly approached a woman-child who was apart from the rest of the group. She seemed like easy enough to defeat, and might even make a good slave for their camps, if she had decent magic behind that camoflagued exterior. With that in mind, he raised his weapon and stepped forward, assuming a threatening posture in an attempt to scare her into submission.

IC: She still didn't move, but was primed to block any attack, though her posture wouldn't exactly show that. She simply acted as if she didn't notice the possible assailant, and was waiting for the Child to move, before she did.

IC: Laural cursed fluently as she saw the Child dodge. She felt the heat, and used her power to make another tree branch hold itself out to her. She leaped onto it just before the fire blast hit her, than scurried up higher, using the leaves to camoflauge her and keep herself hidden.

When she was standing on another branch, she spotted her target again, and willed a multitude of branches out from the tree she had been on earlier (now on fire) to reach out for the Child while she nocked another two arrows.

OOC: Laural's basically going to pull a Legolas with her arrows (shoot two at once).

IC: "Yes, I did," Vesta said, turning around towards the place she had heard them. Eshe vanished as she reached out, trying to detect heat sources that would indicate that they were her enemies.

Opening her eyes again, she grimly said, "Children. I can feel their heat."

OOC: LotR nerd. tongue.gif

ToA, I know I approved them last time, but I'm going to ask for a little more detail in the background section. Make them two or three quality sentences, at least.

IC (NPC VS Spink):

The Child flowed forward and reached out with his right hand, a bright light forming in the center of his palm. He whispered a single, almost completely incomprehensible word and a blazing sphere of flame roared out, hurtling directly at her face.

IC (NPC VS Inferna):

Snarling viciously and breathing curses in its own, secretive language, the Child warded off the organic growths from his face with quick bursts of fire and wild swings of his blade. When he got a moment, he reached out and hurled a pair of coruscating (love that word <3) fireballs that twined around each other at the woman. All thoughts of capturing her were now gone. He just wanted to kill this...this witch who dared to use even the plants against him.

IC (Crazy Old Coot):

The man's face twisted into a rictus of anger and memories, both wrapped up into a single, quick expression before they all vanished behind a cool, controlled mask. "Good. I want some revenge."

IC: With incredibly fast reflexes she had moved out of the way, and in the same fluid motion, also released one of her wrist blades, and swung it expertly towards the Child who had decided to try and melt her face off. Through the entire process she didn't speak a word, and the only sound was that of the blade slipping out of its hiding spot.

OOC: By the way, what does it mean exactly when it says that you can change your "appearance"?

OOC: Powerful watercrafters can use their water furies to coat themselves in a very thin layer of water that is shaped, by color and texture, to be the exact appearance of someone else. They can, if they have the power, even duplicate the voice exactly.

IC (NPC VS Spink):

The Child grunted in surprise, barely bringing up his own suddenly long and clumsy weapon to block it just in time. He looked at her again, taking in the person with new eyes, and decided that she would be better off dead. It had less risk that way.

He rushed forward and drove his blade before himself, intending to run the woman straight through.

IC: She released the other blade, and used it to hit the weapon to the side, while she moved in the opposite direction. If everything worked, the point of the enemy's weapon would bury itself into the ground, and she used the other blade to try and make a large gash on the side of the Child's body.

IC (NPC VS Spink):

The Child's blade did indeed slide away and fall from his grasp. Bringing his forearm quickly down to attempt a retrieval was the only thing that saved him, truely. Instead of ripping open his side, the blade ended up bouncing off his arm bone and just slicing through the skin and a little bit of muscle. On the other hand, it also caused a glowing, orange liquid to begin dribbling from the cut and the Child stepped back to examine it in shock, as if he had never seen his own blood before.

IC: Kahna seized her chance, while the Child was in shock, she launched herself forwards, once more at an incredible speed and this time with the intent to tear the opponent's gut open with one blade, while severing the head with the other blade.

OOC: Well, I'm not a "powerful" furycrafter, soo....xD
At least I can reach Vesta now.

IC: Tybault continued to streak through the trees, his hydra fearfully peaking over his shoulder every now and then. Up ahead, he saw a light, and he felt the heat of fire after it had gone; like smoldering embers from a fire. He stopped at the edge of the clearing, looking at the sight before him. Quickly, he climbed down the tree a bit before he jumped off, running for the two figures in the distance.

IC (Garim Lizards in the Feverthorn Jungle):

The creatures were sure now; their prey was acting normally again, and that meant quick and easy food. Maybe even a drink afterward, judging by the portable water thing that was on their mobile meal's shoulder. The one in the tree leapt off with a triumphant hiss, aiming to come down on top of Tybault claws first, since he had taken the extra time of looking and climbing down.

IC (NPC VS Spink):

The Child had, all in all, gotten over his curiosity pretty darn quickly. At least, in time to whirl away from the blade and toward the woman at the same time, putting him directly to her right and out of her immediate range without causing her to overextend on a wild backswing. Grinning in anticipation, he reached out to grab at her throat with a superheated fist.

IC: She used her forward momentum to fall on her hands, which also brought her upper torso downwards, and the fist just missing her throat, since having her cloak catch fire, or her skinned burned would have sucked. She did lash out with her foot, more to hit the enemy to the side so she could sand back up again.
