What is Hero Factory?
Hero Factory is a buildable figure line by LEGO, and one of the two successors to BIONICLE. At this point, little information is known about the story of the Hero Factory theme, aside what was stated by the LEGO Group in this announcement, the teaser trailer, and the Hero Factory website.

What are "buildable figures"?
"Buildable figures" are the term that the LEGO Company uses for the style of sets seen before in the Roboriders, Slizers/Throwbots, BIONICLE, Galidor, Knight's Kingdom, and Ben 10 themes. Hero Factory is the newest version of buildable figure sets, to be released in August 2010.

What sets will be released?
The only sets originally known were revealed by ToyFare magazine, and a news report was published on BZPower. The sets revealed were:

• 7164 Preston Stormer -- "He's the Hero Factory Alpha Team leader, having completed more missions than any other hero. Brave and tough, yet proud and competitive, he is armed with a built-in multi-functional ice weapon, featuring an ice saw, bolt shooter and harpoon to stop anyone in their tracks."
• 7165 Natalie Breez -- "A Hero Factory Rookie, training alongside Blaze, she is agile, a natural diplomat and always ready to give it everything she's got. Armed with energized dual boomerangs and harpoon for climbing, she's always ready to tackle any mission."
• 7167 William Blaze -- "A Hero Factory rookie on his final training mission, Blaze is smart, highly competitive and very confident. Armed with a dual fire shooter, he always has everyone’s back."
• 7168 Duncan Bulk -- "The toughest, strongest hero on the Hero Factory Alpha Team, Duncan has built-in heavy multifunctional metal weapons which shoot metal spheres, helping to protect everyone from danger."
• 7169 Mark Surge -- "The youngest rookie on the Hero Factory team, Surge is a little clumsy, yet highly competitive. He tends to have problems landing his hero pod, but his skill in manipulating his electrical shield, armor and lightning weapon makes up for it."
• 7170 Jimi Stringer -- "The most highly advanced hero on the Factory’s Alpha Team, Stringer is armed with a built-in multi-functional sonic weapon."

All of these were reported to cost 7.99 USD each, and pictures of all of the sets were released on Twitter by WizardWorld. (The images linked above are from Toy Fair 2010, taken by the BZPower staff.)

Later, at Toy Fair 2010, eight new sets were revealed, along with the six "hero" sets--this time in set form, rather than CGI. These were:

• 7147 Xplode -- "Xplode has been spotted at an explosives plant and is about to cause major mayhem! One of Von Nebula's most feared servants, Xplode is covered in explosive spikes, which he launches at practically anything or anyone. There's no reasoning with this short-fused renegade!"
• 7148 Meltdown -- "Calling all heroes! Meltdown has been spotted near the Mekronite Planetoid Belt - his objective unknown. Beware: he is Von Nebula's most destructive servant! Armed with a radioactive sludge shooter, Meteor Blaster and cyclops stare, he's a threat like no other!"
• 7156 Corroder -- "Attention, heroes! Corroder is loose and considered highly dangerous! One of Von Nebula’s newest henchmen, he is lethal in close combat. Use extreme caution: his razor-sharp claws and corrosive spit will cause major damage. Don't get too close to this bad bot, his horn is his favorite weapon!"
• 7157 Thunder -- "Danger! Thunder is wreaking havoc in the metropolis! Von Nebula's touchest servant is squashing everything in his way. He is considered heavily armed and highly dangerous. Keep clear of his Meteor Blaster and massive crush claw. Get close enough to see him grin and it may be too late!"
• 7145 Von Nebula -- "Galactic Alert! Mission Control Center reports that the mysterious Von Nebula, the leader of a powerful gang of villains, is about to attack! He is heavily armed and highly dangerous."
• 7162 Rotor -- "Warning! Incoming object identified as Rotor, one of Von Nebula's most dangerous minions. Capable of incredible speeds and mobility using his helicopter jet pack, Rotor can use his highly dangerous biohazard gas attack from any direction."
• 7158 Blaze Bike -- "Equipped with a powerful engine, front steering and dual plasma blasters, this bike gives rookie team leader William Blaze the speed and power he needs to complete even the toughest missions."
• 7160 Drop Ship -- "Pick up and drop off hero pods wherever needed with the Hero Factory drop ship! With a factory pilot at the controls, the drop ship can take rookies and heroes anywhere they are needed in the galaxy in no time at all."

What else Hero Factory-related info should I know?
Along with the information about the sets that was released in ToyFare magazine, a Hero Factory contest was started on WizardWorld's website. Also, as stated in this news article, absolutely NO LEAKED SET IMAGES ARE ALLOWED TO BE DISCUSSED, POSTED, OR LINKED TO ON BZPOWER.
