Since there is Ta Metru, Ga Metru, Onu Metru, Le Metru, Ko Metru, and Po Metru and Metru Nui had been in existance before Mata Nui, and before the Mata Toa, why were they called Ta Metru before Tahu, or Ga Metru before Gali etc. It makes no sense, please post your thoughts.

Probably because Lego introduced Mata Nui and the Toa before Metru Nui.

Really though, that's a good point. We might find out. One possiblility is that the Matoran renamed them that now.

Good question. My guess would be because the Matoran don't remember the Lost Island, that they just used the same name as their own villages on Mata-Nui. Except they changed Nui to Metru. Man, you stumped me on that one...

They probably know about the prophecies on Metru Nui. Either that or... SPOILER FROM TALES OF THE MASKS!
...they used to be Va-Metru, Nu-Metru, etc. until the old Toa lost their powers after their destiny was fulfilled. It says that's what happened to the Toa Metru in Tales of the Masks.

It might be becuase they were not named after the Toa, just names then the Turaga named the same things on Mata-nui but changed Metru to Koro because they were on a new island.

Oh my spiritual beings, I was just about to post a topic on this exact thing!!! How weird is that?
Anyway, my theory is that while "Toa" (in a general sense) are usually heroes who have saved Mata-Nui, perhaps the current Toa (Tahu, etc.) are the ultimate, for lack of better word, Toa. They are clearly destined to be greater than the Toa Metru: the Metru were just ordinary Matoran who became Toa, while the current Toa fell from the sky with no known past. The Toa Metru (from the little knowledge that I have of them) seem to have been Toa for a very short time before becoming the Turaga, just long enough to contain the plague; the Toa have survived Rahi, Bohrok, Kal, Rahkshi, and Makuta overall. They've gone Nuva. They've faced more than just a plant plague. And, as the topic originally states, the Metru villages/Burroughs/whatever have been named Ta-, Onu-, Ko-, Le-, Ga-, Po- Metru. From all this, I've come to assume that the Toa (Nuva) are far, far greater than the Toa Metru.
But that's just my theory.

The most likely reasons are:
A)The Matoran renamed the Metru cities as they started to tell of them in stories
B)The Toa (not the Toa Metru) were named after something else that the villages were also named after
or
C)Lego hasn't thought of that aspect yet.

I think it's possible that Ta may mean fire in some ancient Matoran language. Ko would mean ice, Onu would mean earth, etc. Therefore, the regions of Metru Nui, the Koro of Mata Nui, and the Toa were all named after the elements.

Mabey tahu means fire, gali means water, etc. that would make since

Any1 cosidered whatever made the Toa(they DID NOT just appear)gave them there names and named them after the Koro that represented their element.
But, bioguy7 may be right. In the ancient language, probably the same as on the MoL, Tahu may mean Fire, Kopaka may mean Ice, Gali may mean Water, Onua may mean Earth, Pohatu may mean Stone and Lewa may mean Wind. Only GregF can know, but maybe the almighty Greg hasnt even been told

One reason that doesn't relate to the storyline: It'll be easier to remember all the village names!

I agree, though, with the first cyllable of the toa's names meaning something. Someone needs to ask Gregf about this...

Thanks that helps but we must also remeber that the Turaga knew what the next batch of toa would do and they also knew their names and so there you have your answer .

probably is just part of the way of bionicle life. They name stuff with the Ta, Ga, Le, Ko, Onu, and Po probably because that is just the way of life. And it was destiny that the Six Toa that would defeat Makuta would be named with The Ta, Ga, Le etc. in the beginning. That is just my theory though.

Perhaps they named the koros that way, and when the toa arrived, it just happened to fit. Also , they could have been called Va-metru, No-metru or something like that

Maybe the Toa(Tahu, Gali, Kopaka, etc.)were named after the villages from Metru-Nui.

or maybe it is oppisite of what we think, what if the toa were named for the villages?

Actually, that's not a bad idea, that the Toa were named for their villiages.
But I'm in favor of the theory that states that Tahu, Lewa, etc are still the actual words for Fire, Air, etc. They just shortened it. Ta-Metru might've been at one point, Tahu-Metru. They just shortened it, and over time, that became their official name.
Or maybe not.

Good point, but whoever said the villages on Mata-Nui and Metru-Nui were named after the Toa? We just assumed so since they sounded the same.

My understanding is that because the legends spoke of the Toa by names, the Koro were named according the the Toa that each one represented. Since the legends were so old, they may have been known, even in the past, by the Metru Nuians.
They may have named their provinces after their represetative Toa as well, although elemental meanings to the Koro/Province/Toa suffixes (Ga, Onu, Ko, Le, Po, and Ta) have been implied.

Perhaps it is not the Metru named after the toa, but the Toa named after the Metru.
I think that sounds pretty cool.

The best name for the metru nui reigions would be the same set up as ta-koro but w/ turuga hyphens like nu-koro.

This is really obvious, people. The cities of Mata-Nui were named after the cities of Metru-Nui. The Toa were named after the cities of Mata-Nui. For example Gali is named after Ga-Koro, which is named after Ga-Metru.
