Maybe the Toa are telepathic!!!!!!
Dragon Gundam
How do toa, turaga, and matoran talk? The only thing that looks like a mouth is where there mask goes on. :sarcasm:

Good Theory...But there's the key word.

Moving to Theories...
Amalga
Well, their mouths don't need to move for them to emit sounds. Maybe they talk like humans do, with voices. They could be telepathic, but it takes tons of concentration when you're talking to a large group of subjects.
Mahalis
Maybe, instead of making speech in their mouths like we do, they produce the sounds internally? Or mybe they are moving their mouths, and we just can't see it because they've got their masks on.
Kaiapu
I doubt that the Toa/Turaga/Tohunga are telepathic...  I do see your point though.  I've often looked at a Toa and wondered how he talked while biting his mask on...  No wonder getting a mask knocked off is such a problem!

Jesting aside, they are "bio-robots", so perhaps they could talk without an articulate mouth, much as C-3PO does.  Or, it could be "just one of those things..." ;)
Yaanu
maybe you can translate der movements
The Ice King
If they were telepathic than Matatu would be useless! I also immediately though C-3PO... strange....

:akaku:  :tohu:
Nuva Kaita
Yes I also believe that they talk like C-3PO. There was another topic like this called how do they eat. lol

Exactly! Thats What They Are. In The Bionicle Series Do Their Mouths Ever Move? They Might Even Send Data To One Another!... Interesting... Mechanics... Computer Data... Its All Coming Together.

Sola, Toa of The Stars
Yes, i too instanly thought C-3Po... maybe WE are the ones who are telepathic, hehehehe... most of us seem to be thinking along the same lines...  :sarcasm:  :lookaround:  :satisfied:  :sarcastic:
Spinosaur
This is like asking "How can mini-figures talk if their mouth is just painted on?"
Minglex
well the masks have kind of mouths....kind of. :satisfied:
Makua
HEY YOU CANT TALK WHEN YOU HAVE A BIG APPLE IN YOUR MOUTH(lol :blusklaugh: )
Well they could talk without moving their mouth like robots.
And they shake their head also(whats with that?)
Minglex
Their masks become part of their face and get electrinically connected Mr mukau. If I was a symbiotic being together with my apple I could talk with it. :blusklaugh:

Makua
HELLO!?HELLO?! MY NAME IS NOT MUAKA SIR.MY NAME IS MAKUA  :plain:  :plain: (i hate Muaka).

Anyways, thats true.Maybe they just talk with their masks like hmmm,im biting on a biological organic tube!(tasty)
Taiki
I think bionicles are bio-mechanical, so they use their mouths to bite the masks on while using the same technology that C3PO uses to talk to people.

Or, they could have something that goes over their mouth that bites the mask and they move their mouth under that.

:tohu:
Makua
Wouldn't it be better for the Mask to Magically float infront of the Inhabitants head.Except for toys.....

EDIT:good theory Taiki, thats the best one.Anyway, so inhabitants have long Lips(whoah!;)?

i was just thinking that maybe if the toa ARE telepathic that it could be short rang?like they have to be neer the person/thing they are going to talk to? because other wise why would they need to gather into groups to plan out things?  oh well it's just a theorie, and to me i really don't think they Are thoguh... but i was saying IF, i belieave they talk like us
-Kopali

Darkelvenkiwi
Maybe it's like their using some sort of chat box....
They can transfer what they mean to say to one another...
Kaiapu
I don't think that they're telepathic, because when they are talking, they move around a bit, like we do when we have a conversation.  If everything was telepathic, they would just sit and look like they were concentrating, wouldn't they? ???
kongu1313
But if they were telepathic at all, what would be the point of nujus mask
FallenTurtles
Interesting discussion here...  let me make this my FIRST post.  Dun dun dun.

I believe there is a great logic behind the C-3PO theory, but someone else stated that they don't believe the Toa have mouths.  Well, I think they have mouths, but it may simply have been a function for the toys ot have the mask connect at the mouth.  There's a certian line that must be drawn between the toy and the 'reality' of it all, after all, with the toy, the Nui-Jaga could never use their actual legs to touch the ground!

Maybee the toa, turaga, and tohunga don't have mouths or telepathy. Maybee they have some form of resinating (sound making) chamber inside of them or cummunicate by signing like sign language or perhaps body language. Maybee they have some form of exra-sensory part to them and they can reed eachothers body heat, thus basically sensing emotion.
  :nervous:  :surprised:  evilgrin:  :annoyed2:  :satisfied:

Also, maybee we are all thinking based off of HUMAN standords and the toa, turaga, and tohunga have something beyond our capbilities of thinking
T-Hybrid
This is a good topic going here...

I don't think the Toa are telepathic...cause then the mask of Telepathy WOULD be useless.

So then the other guess is that maybe in the "Actual" Mata-Nui...the Masks don't have the peg on them.  That could be the Toa's mouth that "moves" while they talk...and the mask just stays on like when you set glasses on your face.

Remember...when they have the "real world" and the "lego world" two completely different things can be done visually...the peg on the back of the mask is one of them.
Kaiapu
I agree with you, Torhu.  Just like online and in the comics the "elbows" can bend, that peg probably isn't in their mouths.
SystemofaDownfan1488
well if we got how they talk witha mask on. then how do they talk witha mask OFF!

I don't think you have to worry about that. have you ever seen  :lookaround: a bionicle character without a mask on, unless sompthing's wrong.
Hiroki
The matatu is the mask of TELEKENESIS.. meaning you can move objects with your mind.

i would say the masks attach to the mouth just like the toys. I think the toa speak like humans, without moving their mouths, they could just emit sounds without using their mouths....uuhhh..i confused myself..owell :satisfied:

I only read the first page but here's my input: If the Toa were telepathic then why is Matoro needed to translate Nuju? When they talk in the MNLOG there is a (well hard to describe) clicking sound that goes on at the same time. Mabey their robotic clicks are their ways of speaking. But Nuju has to have some weird vocal cords because he can whistle. Mabey this is a birth defection (if Bionicle are born). And who says they talk with their mouths? They could send vibrations through the ground. I know that sound a bit corny but you never can tell. Not everything makes sense and mabey they Toa/Turaga/Matoran can talk through their masks. I think that the people who made bionicle kept their voices from us so we could make them up ourselves!
I. M. Wright
Simple.  If you've read Animorphs you'll know.  They can direct their thoughts to one person or as Visser Three did while murdering that Andalite prince guy (forgot his name) direct your thoughts for all to hear.  And you write it <with the words enclosed like this.>

What is that prince's name anyhow?
Lanersnitzel
I.Mwright i think it was alfangore or somthing like that, i don't remember..... but anyway i agree with Torhu
Kopeke
It would be hard to understand the movie if they were telepathic, so I'm thinking that their mouthes have speakers in them.
Exo Lewa
there used to be a  show called battelstar galactica, (made by George Lucas before Star Wars) in wich the bad guys (cant remmber the name) made a deep computerized sound similar to Kopakas voice in the CD :tohu:

oh! you have read the Enders game series TOO!
i love that series :)

in the ender series there are these trees that have chambers inside them that warp and change to make a different sound and in effect a language... that is called the father language...

but i think they i have infrared ports in their eyes j/k :)

okay this is my real theory:
have you guys not noticed that there is a space between the mask ends and where the face begins...

my conclusion; simple there is some sort of speaker inside the head...

It is telekinisis not telepathey. I looked it up and if they were Telepathic what is the point of having Matoro to translate Nuju. If you don't know what telekinisis is look at the movie Onua and Lewa battle.
Kanohi Guy
It's easy to agree with one of these theories, but for me, I'm gonna make one of my own that might sound like the C-3PO idea: Perhaps they have a sort of voice-box that is sort of amplified by the holes or "mouths" on the masks. But notice that no one in mata-nui has ears, and that a voice is just how the frequency of the waves the speaker emits hits your inner ear. Obviously, the inhabitants have some sort of reciever, but let's not go into that, shall we?
