Here's a neat theory on the orgin's of the six Toa:
There were six young child villagers named Tahu, Onua, Lewa,
Gali, Kopaka, and Pohatu. Often, they went to see the new Turagas tell the prophecy of six great heroes that would defeat Makuta forever.
One terrible night, the shape-shifting horror Makuta used his mystical power to find out if those who would become Mata Nui's saviors were born yet......and indeed they were, for a few years!
Makuta sent his Rahi to seek out and kidnap the young children who were to become the Toa.
Once kidnapped, they're bodies were mutilated and scattered across the floor of Makuta's lair.
The story would have ended there if not for the power of the imprisoned Mata Nui. Using the last of his strengh, he transported the souls of the six young Matoran and stored them in seperate canisters. Then he fashioned for them new bodies and stored them also in the canisters.
When Makuta discovered this, he tossed the canisters in the ocean. But they would soon return...........

A great theory.
But remember Mata Nui was put into a deep sleep, not imprisioned. But maybe mata nui got the toa into the canisters just before he went to sleep.

I think your theory is a very creative one and it may be a possibility but I dont understand why everyone keeps saying stuff like matoran turn into turaga and turaga turn into toa and toa turn into toa Nuva that kinda sounds screwy to me.

I like that theory a lot. Maybe the Toa actually WERE Tohunga, a long time ago.

I think that is a good theory.
MY theory is that the Toa were on the tiniest of the Kumu Islets (do you have the map from the TRU promo?) and were created to save the island. The Toa Stones, when placed at Kini-Nui, would trigger the liftoff for the rocket-cans, and when they came down, they put themselves together (

that isn't right) and fought.

Ok,the legend says that six great beings where sent down form paradise,so the toa are kinda like Mata-nui but lesser.
