For a long time I have supported the idea that "Bionicle" is short for "Biological Chronicle". But then one day my science teacher began a lecture on her titanium femur. She refered to it as bionic. The kid sitting next to me is not a Bionicle fan, but he muttered "Bionicle" (perhaps making the connection in his head) and suddenly I understood.
bi·on·ic (b-nk) adj.
1. Of or relating to bionics.
2. Having anatomical structures or physiological processes that are replaced or enhanced by electronic or mechanical components.
3. Having extraordinary strength, powers, or capabilities; superhuman.

I no longer support the theory of "Biological Chronicle". The word "Bionicle" was created by LEGO as a noun describing a totally bionic creature such as the Toa or the Matoran.
The characters in this story line are bionic, and that is why the story is called Bionicle.
