For a long time I have supported the idea that "Bionicle" is short for "Biological Chronicle". But then one day my science teacher began a lecture on her titanium femur. She refered to it as bionic. The kid sitting next to me is not a Bionicle fan, but he muttered "Bionicle" (perhaps making the connection in his head) and suddenly I understood.

bi·on·ic (b-nk) adj.
1. Of or relating to bionics.
2. Having anatomical structures or physiological processes that are replaced or enhanced by electronic or mechanical components.
3. Having extraordinary strength, powers, or capabilities; superhuman.

I no longer support the theory of "Biological Chronicle". The word "Bionicle" was created by LEGO as a noun describing a totally bionic creature such as the Toa or the Matoran.

The characters in this story line are bionic, and that is why the story is called Bionicle.

Feel free to contradict me! I'm open to suggestions!

cool idea, dude.

But, I have a question. Then what's with the -le? What, Le Bionic? (heehee....French...Le....) I still support BIOlogical chroNICLE, but this is interesting. You should ask GregF about this! ;-)

the whole biological chronicle thing just never set right in my mind.  it would be more fitting if they said biomechanic chronicle.  cuz that is what it is, biomechanic.  or bionic.  i never thought those guys were really right, but i just sat there and didnt care to be contradicting.  yawn,,    to lazy.  i think you know what you are talking about though.

Hum, that's very interesting. But then why has everybody told us its Biological Chronicle  for so long? A big mystery.
<NeVerMoRe>
biological chronicle is the true meaning for bionicle and states much more facts than your meaning
biological- affecting life or living organism
cronical- a series of stories or a story somtimes using legendary material.

on the bionicle lexicon it says the bionicle is the quest the toa are on so bionicle isnt just the name of the series but the legend the toa turaga and matoran follow not the power of a bieng or living creature.

It's interesting reasoning, however, it's a well-known fact that Bionicle is a combination of "Biological" and "Chronicle", and members of the Lego design team have said as much.
