I wasn't sure where to put it so if this belongs in Marketplace Banter, please move it. Anywayz, heres my take on what happened. As noted a few days ago on MoD, Galidor is doing very poorly in sales right now. Lego invested a lot of money in that, it also lost a lot. I'm guessing they knew this was bound to happen shortly after the show aired. So they had to pull together something that would cost very little to make and produce and would sell like hot cakes. Where else to turn but Bionicle, there top seller. They figure since a lot of kids are quote brainwashed unquote by it they will just about by anything. So they were taking a "safe" risk so to speak...er...type.

That is certainly an interesting thought...
Galidor is doing poorly...but i doubt that its hurting LEGO that badly. They wouldn't have tried if they couldn't afford to fail.
The Kal are just a mistake. LEGO shouldn't make them...it'll disappoint (I know it will)
They should just extend the Bohrok saga with a few interesting sets...and hurry up and release the Rahkshi. Those'll bring in money like "hotcakes"

Your not alone Torhu. But I don't think it will dissapoint to much. Just look at the polls on the front page. Most of us are diehard Bionicle fans and the majority of us voted on "Great Set Idea". If Lego can get us hooked, they can certainly do it to anyone else that they want to.

I disagree with that statment. There is aout as much difference between the Kal and the ones before tham as the Nuva and the orig. Toa. Lets look at it like this:
Kal : new head shileds
Nuva: new masks.
Kal: new weapons
Nuva: new weapons
Kal: slight change in body parts
Nuva: slight change in body parts
Both the Kal and Nuva are only slightly different than the sets they are replacing. I think the Toa were much more liked than the B's were - so that conveys the difference in the acceptance of the 2 lines.
Anyways, this is theories (as to why Lego made the Kal) so I am gonna move this to the theories forum

They won't destroy the Toa, only defeat them. But the MFuss, you are wrong. The Kal got new handshields yes, but other than a color change, nothing new. Nothing. The Toa Nuva have a new "duel-action" abiltiy in addition to 14 new pices. The Kal have 6.

There isn't any reason for the Kal but marketing schemes IMO...
I figure it's like this, "Hey, the Bohrok went over pretty well! But we need more...I know! Bohrok Nuuva! Quick get Greg we have some story making to do!"
You dig? Now I will be following the storyline in the comics closely but I am sick and tired of LEGO making new revamp sets because of money. That's what they are, revamps.
Now the Nuva thing could be disputed...
Nuva: New Kanohi
Kal: New Krana (possibly}
Nuva: New weapons
Kal: New weapons (handshields}
Nuva: New legs and different parts
Kal: Ended already.
Nuva: Alternate modes
Kal: Same snapping action
Nuva: Nuva armour
Kal: Nope, just silver handshields.
Might have forgot some.
You see the Nuva have alot more features and extras then the KAL that it actually makes a good deal. The Kal are too similar and might not go over well. But I see your points mfuss.

Also the Nuva's weapons can be used as wings, skies, surfs, ect.,while the Kals hand-shieds aro soooooo dumb!
And the Nuva have somewhat different shape while the Kal are the same as Bohrok (which were among themselfs very simular)

Actually, the Kal have no change in body parts, just different colors.
And also, the Kal dont have new head shield pieces, just new designs.

Well if the Krana are indeed new, then that would tie them at 14 new pices each, The face plates have new designs from the world of reptiles, but they used the same mold to make them.

Hmmm... maybe LEGO's just doing it for money. I like the Kal. I could use a few new pieces.

Hey, look at it this way: If you want a MOC to be as silver as possible, you could always go out and buy a Kal with out even making a hard decision.

If people knew what was ahead like the rahkshi they would buy the kal and then hybernate uuntil the rahkshi come out. Time to start storing up fat.
