Actually he confirmed that they do indeed breathe. He said he knew it for sure. BUT he said that he doesn't think that they eat/drink at all.

Oh. I was confused. I thought he said that tehy don't breathe. And it makes sense thet they don't eat/drink because of their mouths. But the only thing is that in the comic where Lewa almost drowned he got water in his mouth. so maybe they can drink/eat but they don't have to in order to survive.
