Man it's ashame that Lego actually used Maori words for their sets.....and I thought that they used their own imaginative minds to make up these words....and I thought wow what cool names they have for them nd then the Maori Cyber attack article came along and it brought to me that Lego used Maori words insted of using their own brains......what do you people think about this?

I know, but maybe LEGO thought they "made up" the words until they learned they were from the Maori Language.

LEGO® did not do anything wrong, the maori's did!

Lego knew that the words were Maori and decided to use them. That's why the Maori people got mad. Now that this question has been answered, this topic should be closed before something gets started.

Lego knew they were using Maori words, and they got sued for it. The Maori people who posted here and did the cyber-attacks made a huge deal over nothing. When Katarnina(sp) was here, she "quoted" posts that were supposedly ill-intended. However, she only quoted part of the post, which is why that topic was closed. Does anyone have a link to this topic? I saw it a long time ago....

Not all the bionicle words are maori. according to a translator on the web, lewa, gali and others were made up.

I think the Maori , not having anything else to treasure, chose to treasure their language, and then when Lego decides to use some words for some sets, the Maori freaked out over it. Lego wasn't trying to be mean. Heck, I wouldn't hesitate to use some foreign words for some stuff in some of my stories, but i wouldn't do it as an insult or mean action or theft or whatever.

i think its fine as long as the names fit what lego used them for like turaga ment the trible leader or some thing like that tongue.gif laugh.gif biggrin.gif smile.gif

Before now, I had never even heard of Maori.

Let's make sure this doesn't get out of hand.

Number one: The MAORI didn't do anything wrong. Some people who may or may not have been Maori attacked the site. We can't blame all of them for this. There are bad Americans out there, but it doesn't mean I'M one of them.

FallenTurtles is right. The Maori did not do anything wrong, but nor did Lego. I think that this 'war of the languages' is a bit silly. The Maori are getting to angery about it and Lego are not really helping the matter.

I just can't support this silliness because of what it might do. Think, if everything based on a Maori name/word had to be changed. I agree that Lego could have made up their own names, but I don't see what's wrong about using Maori words. Besides, Lego Bricks own names are a bit rubbish, like Toa-Nuva. Just add Nuva. And Lego said they would not name any future products after Maori names/words, and TOA-Nuva.

This should be locked right away, because if a Maori sees this, he's not going to be happy. Besides, I thought we had said that we were going to continue using the Maori names. Full Stop.

There is no need to continue discussing this topic. Closed, for obvious reasons.
