How come Toa have elemental power? We know that the Nuvas have their symbol, how about the Olda? Are they came from a same souce(symbol)?

I think that when the olda's were sent down from the heavens, they got the elemental powers of the place they washed up on. (For example, washed up on Ko-Wahi, so he got the powers of snow and ice)

I think the Toa Nuva's powers come from a source because the powers are so strong that something was needed to store it and channel it to the toa.

Yes, the Nuva's powers are stored in the Nuva symbols, aswell as being the key to the Bahrag's cage. Well, I think so anyway. But as fr the Toa, Onua had the parts to be sjorter than the others, so he had to be the Toa of Earth. And Pohatu had the parts designed to fit the inverted torso. I think the Olda always had their elemental powers in them, and they don't come from a source, as I don't see what the source could be if TRahu always had a firesword, and Mata Nui is asleep.

The source of their elemental powers lies in both spirit and body. The spirit carries the power, and it is implemented in their bodies. The channeling of the power to the outside world is done by means of their tools.
I do not believe that they receive their powers by scanning their environement (That's more of a Beast Wars/Beast Machines thing). But as there were six Toa for each region, their design was made to carry a corresponding power.
Or at least that's how I interpret it.
