It isn't an error; this has ben known for some time now. GregF said that a Matoran who performed a great act (like saving a village) would attend a special naming ceremony to have their name changed.

It was a topic that popped up a while back. GregF let us know that sometime between the Kal and the MoL Movie, a group of heroic Tohunga will be rewarded with a name change.

This group so far is Maku, Huki, Takua, Jala...and a few I can't recall.

There are also a few theories that the Gukko Bird and Puku the Ussal will also be granted name changes.

That's right, they get their name changed but still similar. But whos Huku?

Yeah, T-HYbrid pretty much answered your question...but just in case you were wondering what their names become here you go-

Maku = Macku
Jala = Jaller
Huki = Hewki
Takua = ??? (sorry can't remembe, but possibly Takanuva)
Puku (the Ussal, this is only theorised) = Pewku
