I personally thought that at the begining it would be cool that, that toa was a fusion, but I think I remember Greg F. saying its not.

Actually, when three beings of the same kind combine, it's a Kaita, but when there are six, it's a Nui. Like the Matoran Nui from the first promo comic.
I myself do not think Mata Nui is the Toa combined. That would mean Mata Nui split himself up into six (or seven) seperate beings... It just doesn't sound right as a Toa origin story...
