All right, there are many theories saying that the Bohrok inhabited Mata Nui before the Matoran(Tohunga at that time), and before the island was named Mata Nui. Well, SOMEBODY of SOMETHING must have populated the island before the Matoran(Tohunga at the time). And they must have been intelligent. How do I know? Well, Nokama's Kanohi Rau lets a being translate ancient languages and texts(why she never uses this mask to understand Nuju, I don't know). I don't think that before Mata Nui came, the Matoran(at that time, Tohunga) were intelligent enough to write. And if they were, they would have passed it down. Therefore, Nokama can translate ancient languages, used by ancient peoples.

That makes a lot of since, I seriouly doubt that they're

That's a great theory! Mata Nui was populated during the before time. It's possable the Bahrag were the evil queens of the tohunga.

One problem: The People in the "Before Time" did not write things down, and they did not reproduce, meaning that they could not pass it down. Other than that, your theory absolutely makes sense.-(V)oD

My theory about ancient languages was due to the evolution of the matoran language. English went through quite a bit of change, and the matoran language very well could have.

I guess if you put it that way, your theory makes very good sense, except for the no recording part. Very much sense.

I believe the bahrags were created by Makuta as servants. And after mata-nui was put to sleep, the bohroks were released to roam the island!

I put much thought into the idea of languages evolving, much as English did with the Roman and French invasions. However, Matoran and Turaga(most likely) do not reproduce, so if the language did go through changes, then the current Matoran(and Turaga) would know the earlier forms, since they were there, and would not need the help of Rau.

Maybe there were different people living there. Then they all went away or something happened to them and they weren't there anymore and the Matorian came.
