He was talking about the Kanohi Nuva. thats all and the symbles are the nuva symbles, the ones the bohrok kal stole

He just means the Kanohi Nuva. Then again, he might mean the Ahvoki and Kraahkan too...

I think when the Toa transformed the Kanohi Nuva were created the same way as the symbols were. The MoL probably existed as long as the seventh Toa does and Makuta's mask was made by Makuta himself. Hope this helps.
