I think the MoT was discovered when Vakama first learned about the Bohrok swarms. I think he went into the nest and found the MoT, but saved it for a really important need, like right now.

well that would make sence but it would of had to be before makuta or makuta would of killed him thats how he knew of the bohrok good theory

I agree with KA, I think that Vakama had the Vahi all the time.

I sorta agree with the idea of Vakama having it all the time (no pun intended). I mean, look at the Vahi, it's orange, what is Vakama's mask color? Orange. Still, it's whatever Greg Farshety decided.

This is what I think. Vakama had it all along, but was afraid to give it to Tahu due to its power. After the Nuvazation, he got it because of the power he controled.

The turaga have been around for a long time. Vakama might have got it from Mata Nui himself long long ago.

I think tahu discovered it during the seeking, as I saw a poster with Tahu Olda wearing the Vahi. He gave it to Vakama, to keep it safe. When he went to fight the Kal, he thought it might be helpful to use that mask, as a last resort.

If thats true that explains A LOT. Maybe thats how they found out about the vahi's incredible power. Possibly Onua found it used it, and unleashed some incredibly powerful, powers. Then Onua gives it to Vakama for safe keeping, fearing its power.
That very well might work, but you think he's give it to his own turaga.
