Humor me for a minute. After thinking about the turaga story on how Mata Nui was put to sleep by his brother Makuta, and watching the MoL trailer I've come up with a startiling hypothesis. Seeing that makuta always seems to have a body simular to the residents of Mata Nui(such as the matoran body in the online game, and the toa body seen in the movie trailer) couldn't Mata Nui have one too. Now with this in mind let me show you more evidence!
When you watch the trailer you see that the mask of light was hidden in a bolder, and begins to glow when it is released in the lava. What if Mata Nui's spirit was inprisond in the mask of light while he was set in his eternal sleep. Now with the mask being found his spirit can be released and make a seperate body (takunuva) to help the toa protect his island while he recovers from his long sleep.

So, what do you think? Could I be on to something here, or really far off?

You were humored for a minute. I really doubt it. I think that Mata-Nui won't come out of his sleep until the retirement of Bionicle. And there isn't an end to the line anywhere in sight.

Gregf said that Takanuva is not Mata Nui. And, he can't reveal movie plot.

On top of that, he said that there are no plans to awake Mata-Nui, and that ruff sketches/plans of the storyline have been made through 2005. (7 books!)

Well, there was a bit of flaming and aggression in that topic. Some people called it a war: Anti-Takuas vs. Takuas. I stayed away from it... seemed dangerous. Anyways, since this HAS been answered, I guess it could be closed. An interesting thought, but one that has been thunked of before (and disproven)

Well first off it's Takanuva nut Takunuva,and GregF said that he's not Mata-Nui but still good theorie.

Yeah, Greg said Takanuva wasn't Mata Nui, but in my own, customized storyline, he is. Glad to see somebody shares my views on the subject.

again. without disrespecting your theory, i had a better one (it was called "ToL (yeah i know its old)"), but some members said to me that no, mata nui wasn't Takanuva. It is also comfirmed by Gregf, bionicle comics writer. and mata nui will awake, yes, but not on book 1!

mine too. that one of the things i not like, is when people get so upset over a story that they can cotrol... look at this was when the Throwbots come out there was no story, well there was but not like there is with Bionicle, throwbots only had a back story the res t wa s up to you to make up ho w ever you wan ted. I don t see why we can pick the plot point s we like from B ion icle an d make our s tory s up…. I ke y bord ha sgon e crazy
